  1. Same. Last week’s episode was funny, but this week and the premiere were pretty weak.
  2. I had some reservations about this movie, but I have to admit, it was excellent. It really is a psychological thriller wrapped up in a western. I don't like Jane Campion, but her movies really are gorgeous. The cinematography combined with the score was incredible. I liked how the discordant notes would play when Rose was around, to emphasize how drunk and disorderly she had become. It really is something else that Phil met his match with Peter. Phil did end up being a tragic villain, and even with his cruelty, you could tell that he was just a lonely, miserable man. And it didn't help that the other ranchers worshiped him and kept him on a pedestal. But his cruel treatment and contempt of Rose would eventually break her, if not kill her entirely. I don't think Peter was evil or a psychopath, just more calculating than anyone realized and knew that his mother's life was at risk. But his gaze while Phil was washing the rawhide was disturbing. Peter told Phil that his late father had worried that Peter was too strong and incapable of kindness, and Phil scoffed at that. If only he knew.
  3. Good movie, although a little long. Will's performance was great, but I thought Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton were excellent. I look forward to seeing more of them. I agree. Telling Serena something like "I promise that one day you'll have your moment in the sun" would have had the same effect. But Richard openly predicting that Serena would best Venus eventually was just too convenient. Frankly, the fact that no one really challenged him on the plan was too convenient. It's obvious how much work went into that 78 page plan and how important it was to Richard, but things happen. Injuries, illness, loss of income, etc. There couldn't be any deviation from the plan, but you can't anticipate everything. And he wanted to have it both ways; for Venus and Serena to grow up with normal childhoods and attend school, but for them to still be tennis champions. I was glad when Oracene fought back and wouldn't let him ignore Venus' dreams of going pro because of his own insecurities.
  4. Disappointed that Laci won't be returning. Hopefully she's moving onto better things like Quinta did. They're getting all new writers for s3, which is for the best, I think. I wasn't thrilled with season 2 and the running thread of them in the bunker was so boring. And they're bringing back characters from both seasons, so I'm hoping we see Trinity the Invisible Spy!
  5. Mt. Vernon Both sisters made good points. Resale value vs longevity. But since the buyer ended up in the same building, the whole episode felt like a waste of time anyway. Houston (rerun) None of the homes were nice. The first one was a big empty box, the second needed too much work, and the third was just obnoxious. I don't know why the realtor showed the third one anyway, besides shock value. Even for the husband it was too much. With the space, flashiness, and elevator option, it was the perfect party house. I thought the same. She kept saying how frugal she was, but was fine blowing money for updates on the house she wanted.
  6. ITA. Nice season finale, but predictable. From the slow dancing, the proposal, even Fay’s feelings for Anthony being revealed through the photos. You could basically see the direction were things were heading. Although I thought Talia would see the photos and put two and two together, not Anthony. That said, I’m hoping GC gets renewed. The writing could be a little sharper, but the cast works well together and I like the quirky humor of the show. I need to catch up, though. I’ve missed a few episodes and didn’t know that Fay had a thing for Anthony. Was kind of hoping they would avoid that route, but oh well.
  7. Right? Jacob meant well, but that was a whole expensive excursion that no one asked for. Gregory doesn't owe him. I respected Gregory not backing down, I figured he was going to force himself to eat the pizza so everyone would get off his back. I get that it applies more to Greg's rigid nature, but let people like what they want and dislike what they want. Who cares? Ava had a point. The rules and structure of the step team may have worked for Janine when she was younger, but that doesn't mean you sacrifice the fun and the creativity out of it. The girls were really enjoying Ava's routine and I was relieved that Janine noticed that right away and didn't spend the episode sulking on it. As for the grandmother, I think it hit a great balance. One act of decency doesn't negate Ava's irresponsibility towards her principal duties, but it does show that she's capable of caring for someone else and putting her priorities in order. Nice little end credit bit with Janine and Ava's "dance off." Nothing but respect in the end.
  8. Damn, that was underwhelming. I really liked Rabbi Jen, but with them lacking the context as to why Carrie and Miranda were arguing, their little speech felt artificial. It definitely goes deeper than Miranda being in love and Big being dead. The timing for the whole conversation was terrible and I couldn't blame Carrie for being caught off guard. Miranda knew the girls would be surprised, that's why she didn't tell them. Although maybe the internship wasn't important to Miranda and it just seemed like it was. God knows her marriage wasn't important to her. Speaking of God, really tasteless of Miranda to bicker about religion at the table. Miranda, your friend is still grieving and it costs nothing to be silent. It's not like she wants anyone to criticize her life. Miranda and Che going to LA is a silver lining as far as I'm concerned. They can stay there. Miranda will be miserable because she'll be away from all her loved ones and the job/education she wanted, but I really don't care. Actions have consequences and she'll have to learn the hard way. Loved Seema hooking up with the club guy. Hope she's having fun. I'm thinking Nya's husband is going to cheat on her and/or ask for a divorce. Besides a few side glances, there was really no build up for Carrie and Franklin but I get it. She and the other guy had no passion. I'm just glad that the teacher didn't end up a jerk or anything. Hope he finds a woman who really likes him. Charlotte showed the most amount of growth during this reboot. During the series (before she met Harry) Charlotte would have lost her mind having a family who was non-traditional, especially her children. But she's clearly matured and like Lisa said, Charlotte does whatever she can to ensure that her family is happy. I'm guessing that she and Harry didn't force Rock to study for the they-mitzvah because they were assuming they already would study, and also not trying to put pressure on them. But damn, Rock just blowing the whole thing off just reeked of brattiness and selfishness. I was waiting for them to say how they understood how much time and money their parents had spent. Finding the right rabbi. Inviting all those people, getting all that food. That wasn't just done out of obligation. Carrie really thought she was doing something in that dress, huh? I don't care if it was couture, it looked like a reject prom dress from the 80s. Of course she's carrying Big's ashes in a clutch purse shaped like the Eiffel tower. Eye roll. They're not slick with that text. So Carrie and Samantha have reconciled...yet we don't see it.
  9. I think I enjoyed this episode, for the most part. Nowhere near as good as the original, but I think it's finding its groove. I wanted a plot about Lily so I guess we got one. I don't find her being so upset about tampons as a problem, I know I hated them when I was her age and never got used to them. That said, I thought she did overreact, and her swearing in the house felt unnecessary. Was it supposed to be hormonal? I'm sure it's not the intention of the writers (or Cynthia) to have Steve's brief scenes to be the most emotional and moving of the show so far. His discussion was Carrie was so sad, but I respected that he tried not to badger her about it. Even with the stupidity of Miranda and Che, it doesn't make sense. Are Miranda and Steve still living in the same house? Sharing a bed? Miranda's compliment of Steve being "impressive" confused me at first, but I get it. She honestly doesn't see anything wrong with her behavior, awful as it is. Miranda wants to have her cake and eat it too; she wants to be with Che, but also have Steve be OK with them getting a divorce. The petty side of me wanted the Brooklyn thing to blow up in Miranda's face. But clearly, they don't want to show this relationship crashing and burning. It's enough to have Miranda chasing Che all over New York or Cleveland or wherever her feelings take her. Like many posters, I was hoping that Carrie would talk to Miranda after her discussion with Steve. I was glad to see Carrie try to move on with her life, but seeing Steve so unhappy and willing to stay in that sham of a marriage is really sad. He deserves better. I loved Seema's plot and finding a potential romance with the club owner, but I don't care about Nya's fertility issues. She and her husband are just too grounded and removed from the story. Felt bad for her, though. It's a lot of pressure for her to try to have a baby, considering how they've failed with in-vitro. They need to start looking at other options to have children, or have a serious discussion about them being enough as a couple.
  10. Wyatt screaming/blubbering "Don't look at my face!" while standing there naked just had me on the floor. They're not wrong, though. Paddington will definitely make you cry.
  11. Mason's father was a jerk, grillmaster or otherwise. It's funny how he complained about "kids these days" when Anthony showed more conviction with his decision to be a vegan than anything else. Knowing his family history and how dangerous heart disease has been to the Black community gave a lot of insight to Anthony. And him standing by his decision and not eating the meat really impressed me. Too bad Mason buckled under her father's idea. Good riddance to her and her asshole dad. This is a great show. It's so much fun to watch and I love the characters. I hope it gets renewed for s2.
  12. I know the auction was for the parents, but the money is still being associated with a children’s school. I was surprised that none of the parents objected or were uncomfortable with Carrie and Che’s involvement. One of the guys did yell that they were all married and weren’t going to bid on Carrie.
  13. I wondered the same. Definitely seemed out of order. And none of the pictures Gregory’s kids drew were hung up in the classroom. Will dancing randomly was the sweetest thing ever. “But that’s what I do, Ms. Howard!” Lol at Principal Coleman calling Gregory “young Idris.”
  14. I thought this episode was decent, but yeah, the ratings have to be in the toilet. Nya and the IVF plot is so removed from everything else, I don't really care about it. I do like her and her husband, though. It's nice to see a healthy relationship in this shit show of a revival. Like Miranda's situation with Che, there is an interesting story with Charlotte: she feels truly free when she's playing tennis and doesn't have to abide by the WASPy social rules that she holds herself to. But toppling Harry like that was just rude, not to mention poor sportsmanship, and doing so in the name of "feminism" is a cop out. Charlotte would have been livid if someone else had done that to one of her loved ones, and her refusing to budge on something so minor as an apology (that she actually does owe Harry) really just makes Charlotte look silly and childish. And her cursing Harry in the street just came out of nowhere. Thanks to all who mentioned the unpleasant barf fest of a date. I'm glad to have been prepared. Still, I understand why it happened. Two people who are trying to start again after the deaths of their loved ones...they're bound to drink a lot. Can't say anything about Miranda that hasn't been said. Just a complete disappointment. This may sound far fetched but I was wondering if there was some contract issue with Eisenberg, because the fact that any of the girls refuse to actually say his name makes no sense. They're more concerned that Miranda is with a woman rather than her cheating on her husband. Steve is almost like Voldemort: he who must not be named. That auction was a joke. I felt bad for Lisa. Her husband came off as an ass, especially when he started calling Carrie "the sex writer." It appeared to be out of desperation, but it was still poor form. And why would a date with a sex writer like Carrie and a bawdy comic like Che even be offered in a children's charity function?
  15. I thought the same. This isn't like replacing a rug, messing with an faulty breaker is serious and Janine was lucky that there was only a short. But I'm chalking it up to her being preoccupied, due to her dud of a boyfriend as well as low blood sugar. They do have a great cast. Principal Coleman cracks me up, despite her being awful at her job. I loved her scuttling away from Janine after she passed out. Barbara definitely knows that Gregory has a thing for Janine. I wouldn't be surprised if she ended up a Principal eventually. Tariq is a bum.
  16. Thank you so much! Made my whole night. 😊 Griping aside, it's disappointing because there is potential. The gist of the show, anyway. But the writing is all over the place, the characters aren't likable, and so on. And butchering storylines is a sure way to lose viewers.
  17. I actually found the sex scene more disturbing than anything else. The image of Che clamping their hand over Miranda's mouth while Miranda was moaning and gyrating was just creepy. What really bothered me was what happened after. Miranda cheerfully listening to Che's stupid podcast while making a drink just made me disgusted with her. So tasteless. At least Carrie had the decency to feel guilty when she cheated with Aiden. Miranda was devastated when Steve cheated on her, but she's OK with cheating on him? Who the hell is this person? The writing for this show has been poor, but this takes the cake. I understand Miranda being bored with her life and her shit-head son. But she's willing to throw away her marriage with someone she just met because "she's never felt like that in her life?" What kind of half-assed writing is this? That's some cheesy line that a guy they're dating would say! The old Miranda would scoff at that. The fact that Miranda is saying that she genuinely hates her marriage and life is truly sad. Carrie pointed out that it hasn't always been that way (and she's right) so I don't know if Miranda is exaggerating because she's so unhappy or if it's really true. At any rate, Che isn't the answer. Miranda is enamored with Che, but I think Che looks at this like a casual hook up and nothing else. If Miranda really invests herself emotionally with Che and it doesn't work out, I don't know how she can come back from that. I know Carrie messed up years ago, but she still had it worse this time. I can't imagine how jarring it must be to wake up from a drug induced nap with your whole house smelling of weed, while seeing your caretaker having sex with your boss. And peeing in a bottle had to be pretty degrading. She was right to go off on Miranda. I noticed how neither of them mentioned Steve's name in the discussion. NGL, Charlotte and Harry's situation isn't that interesting to me, but it is the most honest. I can imagine a lot of parents feeling that confusion, not sure which way is right. Harry isn't wrong, Rock is 12 and still a child. IMO, most adolescents and teens feel 100% conviction about whatever it is they're doing until they lose interest. But we don't know that's the case here, and the teachers are right that school needs to be a safe space, and like some comments here pointed out, some children are literally in danger from their families if they were to come out. So I see both sides. But at least Charlotte and Harry are trying. Carrie...really nothing to say about her. I wouldn't mind her flirting with her PT if her husband hadn't just died weeks ago. Seeing Samantha's texts only made me miss her more. But Kim really dodged a bullet with this. Even if she did come back, the writing is utter garbage. Samantha deserves better. And with the way they wrote her out, why would she want to return? This show is a mess. It's not even a fun mess, just a mess.
  18. Character wise, Molly showed the most growth. She was practically the villain last year. Molly and Taurean may have happened a little fast, but they made sense in the end. It was nice to conclude Molly's story with her wedding, and to see how happy she was. The tribute table for Carol was a nice touch. Didn't like Molly's dress, though. The pattern, anyway. The conversation between Molly and Issa had me in tears. Yvonne said that Prentice turned the camera off and just told her to talk to Issa, without being in character. So some of that conversation was really between the actresses. Best part of the finale. Issa's story was like a see-saw. On one hand, I loved seeing the progress she made from being a lowly employee at We Got Y'all to owning her own business. And her new career includes a new car, new home, and she earned it. The drive home said it all. But romantically, what was that? It took Carol's death for Issa to reach out to Lawrence and still nothing happened. We all knew the Issa/Nathan relationship was in the toilet, so it was just more pointless stuff. Then again, they botched Nathan's characterization anyway. So Issa and Lawrence are finally together in the end, but we don't get any big show, like a wedding or a proposal. I know Issa was wearing a ring, but after all we've seen from them, I wanted more than that. Tiffany is such a non-entity, but I feel for her. No matter what, she seems to be unhappy in her life. Whether it's Denver, her child being left out/ostracized, or still having problems with Derek, something is always standing in the way of her happiness. Loved Kelli finding a great guy and having a baby. I wish they would have done more with her, the "preguntas" stuff really didn't go anywhere.
  19. I wonder if it was because they had to write Cynthia Nixon's real life pregnancy into the show? I remember SJP did a lot of flowy dresses and bags to hide her pregnancy, and I'm not even sure if they were still filming by the time she got to full term, but there was no disguising anything with Cynthia. I don't know if that was a decision by her or the writers. It does make sense that Miranda and Steve only had one child. Although Miranda once said she would "probably end up with five." Thankfully that didn't come to pass. The Baby Shower in s1 was one of the best episodes of the series, IMO, and one of the few that explored Carrie having children. Then, she was kind of wishy-washy about it, but later on Catch-38, she had firmly decided she didn't want any. IA that it was refreshing and it seemed true to her character.
  20. I thought this was the best episode so far, but it's like being the best house on a bad block. Thankfully nothing too embarrassing or shocking happened, but this reboot is missing that fun element that SatC had before. I expected the dinner stuff with Charlotte to be a lot more cringe, but it actually went over well. Even with his nervousness Harry is such a friendly gregarious guy that I wasn't worried about him. Charlotte surprisingly pulled through with the art discussion, and it was nice that the writers remembered that she does have an extensive background in art history. Miranda's glossing over that Brady actually called her bitch had me reeling. If they sent Brady off to boarding school or had some other antiquated method of getting rid of him, I don't care. Just want that awful brat (and his GF) off my screen. It was the first time that I really felt bad for Miranda in this reboot. She's unfulfilled in her sex life, while her only child treats her like shit. No wonder she's drinking. That scene with her and Prof. Wallace gave Miranda more depth than any scenes she's had with Che. Speaking of Che, I was glad that they were sidelined this week. Please take Brady with you next time. Lisa can definitely stick around. She's funny and a good friend to Charlotte, but she doesn't let anyone push her around. Except her mother in law. Her animosity with Lisa is one of the funnier running gags in the reboot. I liked Seema a lot and she looks like the sexy and fun friend that this show desperately needs, but I didn't like how she mentioned that comment Carrie made to her. It's not that Seema was wrong in being upset, but it felt like she brought up that comment to justify her own thoughtlessness regarding the picture. If Carrie had said something like "I would never do anything like what you did" then I could see Seema mentioning the off-hand remark.
  21. I agree. I was all in favor of them being more inclusive, especially since the show is based in NY, but the ham-fisted way they're doing it just turns me off to the newbies. Especially Che, whose personality seems to be "non binary" and not much else. That's why the character feels so forced, imo. But look at Charlotte's friend Lisa. I thought she would be portrayed as a shallow upper West side mother, but I liked what they did with her character. It was pretty funny watching Lisa spend the recital either avoiding the evil eye of her mother in law, (a piano virtuoso) or cringing at her son's performance. And Lisa and her husband even had some of Miranda's contraband wine to de-stress. So they fleshed out her character a little, even in the short time that we saw her. Why not do that with Che?
  22. Between Miranda's growing feelings for Che and Carrie's fight with Samantha, it feels like they're just cherry picking events out of the actor's lives to pad this reboot. If Kristen Davis had gone through something tabloid worthy, I think they would fit that in too. Sexless marriages aren't new, but we've seen this before from Miranda and Steve. At least Steve's cheating (awful of him) forced them to acknowledge the problems in their marriage and make the decision if they wanted to stay together. If Miranda does enter some kind of affair with Che (emotional or otherwise) it doesn't seem much different than most cheating plots: someone falls for a vivacious younger person who excites them, rather than going home to the boring spouse they've known for years. Only difference here is that Che is non-binary. It doesn't help that they make Steve look as appealing as a slug. I'll admit that I'm biased, I loved Steve because he was so unremarkable. He wasn't the "Chrysler building" like Big, a gorgeous model like Smith, or a witty lawyer like Harry. Steve was just an average guy who tended bar, and had nothing in common with someone like Miranda. But the spark between the was undeniable and they brought out the best in each other. It's why they lasted so long, imo. I don't blame Natasha for not going to Big's funeral. And I'm sure she knew about it. Pretty sure Big was a name in finance, and Carrie was damn near a celebrity by the end of the series. But Natasha has her own life now, her own kids. She was only with Big for a year and it still ended in disaster. She would probably feel out of place at his funeral, so why go? As it was, Carrie indulged her own worst vices by stalking Natasha just making it look like Natasha was right to avoid her in the first place. Speaking of Carrie, I hate that she went back to her apartment in the end. It feels like regression. I understand her not wanting to stay at the home that she shared with Big, but if they're moving her back to her old apartment, this just feels like a cheap way to relive the past.
  23. Definitely good thing! Sorry, I was rushing, lol. Taurean is clearly interested, but I like that he’s genuinely offering support and space while Molly is going through this crisis.
  24. Well, that was something. I was ok with the first dream sequence, but then they just kept going... Damn, Issa is still hemming and hawing over Lawrence vs Nathan. Please end this. The farther she goes with Nathan, the more apprehensive she is. At this point, she and Nathan will be speaking their vows at their wedding and Issa will still be wondering if she belongs with Lawrence. Now Crenshawn sees that Issa really does care about her community and is doing well. More importantly, he realizes how hard it is to do these kind of events on his own and now he wants her help. Uh-huh. This is the same man who was openly badmouthing Issa to potential clients and smugly had her groveling at his office. Regardless of Issa's decision, she deserves a real apology instead of that sorry assed "My bad, so you still want to work together?" version from Crenshawn. I really hope she rejects his proposal. Crenshawn needs Issa more than Issa needs him. The fact that Taurean sent the food and wine to Molly's house instead of sending himself over said a lot. Looks like Kelli has found her calling. I can see her starting her own business assisting seniors with writing their wills/end of life plans. She clearly enjoys it and has a personality that endears people to her. I can't believe they brought Ahmal back so briefly. I missed him and Kelli together.
  25. I liked Rose and Lily. Rose looks like a blast to be around and you would have a lot of fun hanging out with her. I appreciated Lily's confidence when it came to her recital. Usually, the person in question is a nervous wreck and driving everyone crazy, but Lily didn't have any issues. She knew she'd practiced for weeks and had confidence that she would do well. Not only did she do a great job, she was enjoying herself, too.
