    Loki In The Media

The man really can wear a suit. That three piece that he wore during the first Avengers promo was everything. Getting more excited for this, although I don't want my hopes too high. Also, I saw a box of Boku juice in the very end trailer. Does anyone remember that? The sophisticated high school juice box of the 90s. Ha!
  2. Going to direct streaming was the best thing possible for this movie, because it meant that I could fast-forward/skip all the boring stuff. Was anyone really clamoring to see the Russells again? Why bring them back? Anytime one of the Madison's Scooby Doo scenes happened, I just zoned out. Sadly, I wouldn't have cared if they ended up as casualties of Godzilla or Kong. What a waste of Brian Tyree Henry. Suprisingly, Jia was a great addition, and one of the only humans that I genuinely felt for. I think the writers had wanted people to like Madison the way they liked Jia, but Madison and her whole family were annoying as hell, whereas Jia was actually an endearing kid. Actually Team Kong wasn't bad as a whole. I lol'd when the villains met their demise so easily. And what captivating lines! "My father gets what he wants." She could have just put on a red shirt and called it a day. And of course her dopey father dies while making a classic villain speech. As someone who enjoyed Skull Island, I absolutely loved what they did with Kong. Not just the fighting, but him going to the Hollow Earth and seeing his origins. They made him a real character, and not just some fighting brute. And while it was clear that Godzilla was the stronger fighter, I loved how Kong never backed down. The moment he started punching the shit out of Godzilla while they were on the ship, I was invested.
  3. So this is the April Fool’s joke this year. The Aqua Teen (or Aqua Child) theme song dubbed with childrens voices is cracking me up. I just wish I knew the lineup. I think they’re going to show an episode of Metalocalypse, along with a few other retired shows.
  4. That was good. The slower pace doesn't bother me, I think we needed that after the batshit crazy WandaVision. I didn't care for the first fight scene. It just looked so cheap for some reason. And the closeups to Sam when he was in the air was terrible. Closeups on scenes like that don't usually look good, imo. I truly sympathize with Sam wanting to save the family boat, but I'm on Sarah's side. She's been on her own for five years, raising two small children, trying her best to keep things afloat. She clearly doesn't want to sell it, but I see why she feels she has no choice. Happy memories and sentiments aren't going to pay the bills. If they can't fix the boat, what else is she supposed to do with it? Also, she mentioned that she was a widow herself. That couldn't have made things any easier. The banker may have been correct about the loan, but he was still a jerk asking Sam for another selfie. You don't turn people down then ask for something, idiot. I feel for Bucky. On top of shouldering a massive amount of guilt, he's completely alone in a new world and has just lost the one person who really knew him. At least Steve had Fury and the Avengers to help him adjust to the 20th century. Bucky just seems so lost and doesn't have any connections. And I didn't pick up why he was so attached to Mr. Yori until the end. Mr. Yori being old is another reason why he and Bucky are friends; Bucky's more on Yori's level than he realizes. Technically, it's two elderly men chatting with each other. I thought so, too. I figured he was going to end up a member of that Flag organization, but I guess not. Maybe he's just trying too hard?
  5. Yep to both of these. Definitely thought sparks were going to fly between Lavelle and Meeka during the lion trial, which would have made things awkward for the obvious reasons. And in this day and age, no way would this charade have gone by so long without someone suggesting a DNA test, and not just go by the word of an old man with a sketch. Surprised that Semmi didn't suggest this to Akeem, but Semmi had less to do this time around. Missed opportunity for an ancestry.com joke.
  6. I think it would have been better if Lavelle was Semmi's son, not Akeem's. I never once bought the bond between Akeem and Lavelle and I could have believed that Semmi had slept with Mary all those years ago and just lied to Akeem about it. It actually started out pretty good, but the cracks started showing about 30 minutes in. Part of what made the first so funny was seeing Akeem try to fit in among the New Yorkers, but Lavelle trying to fit in at Zamunda didn't have the same comedic value. Most of the ending had me just going "Oh, ok." Like Lavelle and Mirembe getting married after they just met. Kiki Layne was great, though. Actually, I liked all of Akeem's daughters. His second daughter Omma was played by Eddie Murphy's daughter IRL, Bella. I'm not sure if Lavelle and Mirembe are actually going back to New York. Meeka asked him if he could really leave "all this" at the celebration, and they looked around and said "Nah." I got that it was a callback to the ending in the first movie, but I couldn't tell if he was being serious. Not a bad movie, but I wouldn't spend $20 at the movies for it. The callbacks were actually the best part, IMO. The Peaches rappers cracked me up.
  7. Emotionally and acting wise, that was on point. It's called WandaVision, but Elizabeth Olsen carried this show. She deserves an Emmy nod at least. It did feel anticlimactic, though. The Vision fight was OK. I hated that line from Monica about the townspeople not knowing what she did for them. Well yeah Monica, because Wanda trapped them trapped in the hex in agonizing pain, unable to even sleep because Wanda's nightmares were poisoning them. She even tried choking them when the begging got to be too much. They're right to be angry. And they've been exposed to the radiation in the Hex, something they don't realize yet. Wanda did the right thing in the end by freeing everyone in Westview, but she's the person who trapped them there in the first place and only stopped because Agatha lifted the veil of magic. They're not obligated to feel bad for her. Hoped to see more of Monica in the finale, instead of being trapped in the house with Fietro. And Darcy felt wasted after that blah chit chatty stuff with Vision. Maybe she couldn't return due to Covid? I know they had a lot to show in the finale, but some of these things were bread crumbs that they dropped. It's not all fan theories. Even an after credit scene would have been nice. I'm fine with Wanda living in the mountains by herself. Not as a punishment, but because she really is too powerful for anyone else to restrain. And I like to think that she has some happiness knowing that her powers come from her, not just the mind stone. Didn't like the Fox version of QS, so I'm fine with Pietro/Peter being some rando named Ralph.
  8. This episode may have been more exposition than I prefer so close to the end, but it was necessary. Kinda bummed that Agatha wasn't behind it all, although I loved her backstory. It was interesting how she actually did want to be good, but just said forget it in the end when the other witches were fighting her. Seeing the heart Vision circled on the deed is a callback to the first episode, with the heart drawn on the calendar. That was really sad. Plenty has been said on Elizabeth's performance (and for good reason) so I wanted to mention the visuals. A few that really stood out: a worn out, scrawny looking Wanda seeing the Scarlet Witch in the reflection of the stone, the effect of Wanda's energy blast all over Westview, the fight between Agatha and her coven. The show really spoils us on color. Wanda is responsible for what happened to Westview, but she seems to disassociate with it. When Vision confronted Wanda two weeks ago, she really didn't know how it had happened, but she was more concerned that Vision wanted out. It's like a dream that Wanda found herself in, and she doesn't want to wake up. It's shown how Wanda took over Westview, but not how the people are actually doing. I still think Agatha is mentally torturing them, though. Heyward only exists to be the villain, but there's no real personality to him besides asshole. I'm not surprised that he's experimenting on Vision, and that he never refers to Vision as "he" but as "it." Heyward never saw Vision as a person, so he's not going to give a damn about Wanda's grief, or that he's desecrating Vision's body.
  9. Monica's superhero transformation was glorious. When I saw her blue eyes, I basically squealed. It wasn't just her going through the barrier, it was knowing the radiation could seriously harm her and going in anyway. Ultimate hero move. I can't wait to see what she does next. Loving Kathryn as Agatha. Her evil cackling at the end was perfect. You can tell she's enjoying this. Her theme song cracked me up. It actually sounded like Kathryn singing it! Honestly, I thought poor Billy and Tommy were going to be in that basement lair, unconscious or hanging up by their thumbs, or something else horrifying. I think the mailman/delivery guy is the beekeeper/SWORD agent. Most of the people in Westview don't remember their past unless something jolts them, so he might not know who he is. I think Wanda's funk is her depression over what happened to Vision. Even if she warped his mind again, I don't thinks she wants to. Each week we can see how the simulation becomes harder for Wanda to control, and now it's gone beyond the point of fixing it. It's hard to have fun with the whole thing if Vision is self-aware. The only downer was the Modern Family/Office setup. I didn't like either of those shows, so the moment Vision started talking to the camera, I was over it.
  10. I wondered the same thing. But cells changing doesn't have to mean superpowers, either. We know that's the case with Monica, but what about the citizens? Could this have a radiation/cancer-like effect? It's too convenient that Agnes was at Ellis Ave. Also, when Vision said he didn't know his past, Agnes' tone seemed almost accusatory. I am really in awe of Wanda's power. When Jimmy said the town was moving, I didn't realize that Wanda was actually expanding Westview. Even if she can't control every citizen, it's just damn impressive. She really could have taken out Thanos on her own. Although Heyward's turn to villainy still seems a little too pat for me, he was dead wrong when he threw that jab at Monica about her mother, then abandoned Darcy when Westview started expanding. Coward. I thought last week had more 90s vibes near the end, so it wasn't surprising to see this one based in the 2000 decade. It looked like it said "Mom".
  11. Rerun of the LA couple moving to Ecuador. Probably would have picked up the first place and dropped it in the city if they could. Wasn’t surprised that they went with house 2, it was more resort-y. What really got me was that quick shot of them making out in the end. I barely see HH couples do a quick peck on the cheek, let alone straight up mouth to mouth. It was nice! They should let them show affection more often.
  12. I know Asta was a young mother, but she barely looks older than Jay. Is Jay in high school or college? I wonder if Jay was selling the pills with the stolen prescription pad, or just taking the pills herself. It would explain why she’s always knocked out. Glad Max made a friend, although I don’t think the girl saw Harry as an alien, but as a human. Still think the pilot was the best episode. These past two haven’t really been engaging me. 😞
  13. I saw that ep 3 is available on SYFI OnDemand, but haven't watched it yet.
  14. That's how I am with it, too. I thought last week's episode was better, but this one did have some good parts. Harry talking to Max on the phone was hilarious. I like that they're incorporating Asta's heritage and customs into the series. It took me a minute to see why she was cutting off her hair and burning the scrubs, but it's also a natural ritual for her character and I'm glad they're not making a huge deal of it. Nice that D'arcy and the girl from the bowling alley are friends who just get on each other's nerves, rather than actual enemies. How long had that poor guy (selfie guy) been levitating in the woods? He was already a skeleton by the time he was found. Was the area that deserted? I'm going to have to suspend any thought of reality when it comes to the medical stuff in this show. If Harry really is the only doctor, he would be busy around the clock, no 9-5 hours. And the scene with him stitching up Max wasn't funny at all, I just found it unsettling. Poor Max, getting poked incessantly just to prove a point. Not to mention that the kid actually needed stitches and really didn't get any.
  15. I thought this as well. Even for a small town, him being the only doctor is a stretch. The real doctor must have been exhausted.
  16. IA. There's the happier and more lighthearted stuff like Far From Home, but it's silly to act like everything is back to normal after the snap. What Thanos did wasn't a "blip," it was a major cataclysmic event that lasted 5 years. It would be interesting to see how people try to move on once they came back. Monica's story is one of many tragic tales that happened. Unfortunately, Feige and TPTB would rather focus on the multiverse effects of the snap rather than the local effects that happened on Earth. Even one of the shorts (they don't do these much anymore) would have been good to expound on some of these changes. Maybe to help them forget their real identities? Also to sound more decade appropriate. I don't hear names like "Norm" and "Dottie" anymore.
  17. This was a great episode. Glad they finally revealed some of the workings behind SWORD. Love Teyonah Parris as Monica. Marvel's so good at casting. I feel so bad that Maria died when she had disappeared. But its about time they showed something about what happened after the snap because Spiderman Far from Home really glossed over it. All those people materializing back together must have been terrifying. And it confirms that they only felt the passing of 20 minutes, rather than 5 years. It was really satisfying to see Darcy introduce herself as Dr. Lewis. Go Darcy! She's still the same person, too. Not that familiar with Jimmy Woo (still need to watch Ant-Man 1 and 2) but I didn't mind him as the straight man. Darcy has enough personality for the both of them. I get that Wanda is clearly grieving, but if she really is behind Westview, then she has to be stopped. Looks like all the citizens are trapped in her simulation, and it's even worse if they're all victims of the snap. Puts Mrs. Hart's begging Wanda to "stop it" in a whole new light. Vision may be dead, but some part of him is coming through. I think he knows the people are trapped which is why he told Wanda that they could go anywhere they want. Like in Endgame, Vision knows that their time is up. After Monica got sucked into Westview, how long was she there? Darcy and Woo were watching the sitcom on the TVs, but they watched every episode in one night. Time is really distorted there. Also, when all the surveillance was set up to watch Westview, they were sending in drone after drone, and none of them returned. Westview should be littered with the drones by now, whether they look like actual drones or the toy helicopters.
  18. Not a bad start, it definitely got better in the second half. Unfortunate that the real Harry was killed because he happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. And AlienHarry probably didn't consider that someone will eventually come looking for the real Harry. The sheriff said he would only spend a few months in Colorado, then leave. I don't think the little boy will be a problem. He's more scared than anything. He'll probably befriend AlienHarry and keep his real secret safe. I've been a fan of Alan Tudyk since 28 Days, so I'll give this a try. Townspeople were cool. I did think people (namely Asta) got over the doctor's death way too fast, but I'm assuming it was to move the plot along.
  19. I'm not sure what you mean? Isn't Herb the same guy from the talent show last week? I don't think he's taking the place of Ralph. Although I found out this week that Herb lived next door, or that Phil (the sad sack guy) and Dottie were married.
  20. I feel bad for Geraldine. I read somewhere on Twitter that she didn't actually know her name was Geraldine until she shook Wanda's hand at the planning committee. I could have sworn I saw a promo with Geraldine saying "I don't know" when Wanda asked her who she was. Agnes and Herb seem like more passive members of the simulation, while Dottie and Geraldine are more direct, because they both reminded Wanda of reality. Dottie's lucky that she didn't get jettisoned out of the simulation, too. Although Wanda does have control over the simulation (or it appears she does) she doesn't have control over the outside forces making their way in. Or Vision. She can only erase/rewind so much before he catches on.
  21. So much to unpack, so many theories. I'm not well-versed in the Marvel lore at all, so I'm just going along for the ride. But as someone who didn't care about Wanda and Vision as a couple, this show does sell me on them. Wanda and Vision know the lingo of whatever decade they're in, but you can tell that they know this isn't normal. It's like they're acting. I agree that some of this creation stems from Wanda's grief at losing Vision and the events of Infinity War/Endgame, but there's clearly someone else interfering. I noticed that the actors from the 50's commercial with the toaster were the same actors in the 60's commercial for the Strucker watch. And there was a HYDRA logo on the watch. I think Marvel/Disney is smart spacing out the episodes. I've noticed over the past year that when something new comes out, everyone watches it and discards it a few weeks later. Only a few shows are currently filming (and many of them have a Covid plotline because there's no other way they can explain the masks) and no major movies are in theaters. People are desperate for new entertainment. So new content gets released, people binge it for a week or so then lose interest a few weeks later. Tiger King was huge when it came out, but a couple months later people had gotten bored with it. Bridgerton made a big splash a couple of weeks ago, but the hype is already dying down. It's not their fault; there's a major lack of entertainment variety compared to what we're used to, and you can only watch the same thing so many times. Drawing out the season will keep people talking about WandaVision longer.
  22. Also hated all the food waste, assuming it was real. Some of that stuff had to be salvageable, but that doesn't make for good TV. I haven't watched HK in a while and I'm remembering why. It's just not fun seeing people get screamed at and rush through cooking so they can win the competition. I'll probably stick to MasterChef. Obvious choice eliminating Elliot. Even without the gazing off into space bit, he tried to blame his teammates for his error because of the "lack of communication." Who would trust him after that? IA that Drew looks ready to explode. He may be a good chef, but I can see why people are wary of him.
  23. It's just that s4 had some great ideas, but most of them didn't get developed. The major fight between Issa and Molly which may have been resolved but we didn't see it. Tiffany's seriously undeveloped PPD, which had little to no traction until the season finale. Amanda said that Tiffany's plain, unpolished nails were supposed to be a hint to her depression. Seriously? Were the viewers supposed to be checking for that? Molly and her many issues could have had a whole episode devoted to her therapy, but a few half-hearted sessions and that was it. It looked like Molly shrugged most of off, anyway. They introduced an interesting new character in Condola, only to go the cliched "accidental pregnancy" route with her and Lawrence. I know everyone likes to joke about her name and breaking up Issa and Lawrence, but I was genuinely disappointed with how things turned out, because it was clear that Condola and Issa could have been good friends. Things like that. And the show is only 30 minutes (I know better than to ask for a whole hour), so it feels like they could have done more later on. But with one season left, I doubt they'll add many new details, just wrap up everything else.
  24. I understand Issa wanting to close this chapter and move onto new things, but I wish they would give this two seasons to wrap up instead of just one. Last season just kind of petered to an end and felt unfinished.
  25. I am a huge fan of Nicole Beharie and watched this to see her, but no way am I watching this again. The scene with the ear and the ice pick almost made me ill. So I'm guessing the trumpet player was a manifestation of Annie's guilt, and the jazz band at the end were...demons? Or just Annie going further into insanity. I was wondering why her son didn't question the blood on her dress.
