  1. Oh Sleepy Hollow, what could have been if only you had better writers and a competent showrunner. At least the first half of season 1 lives on in my dvr.
  2. Me too! I knew I hated Clara, but I also thought that I didn't like 12/Capaldi and that maybe I was just tired of the show after loving nuWho for six and a half seasons. I didn't even watch the last season, but I happened to catch last night's repeat and new episode. I was super surprised to find myself enjoying it quite a lot. Turns out, I just really really loathed Clara and that colored everything else. If these epis are indicative of the rest of the season, I'm in.
  3. Heigl has a movie coming out this month with Rosario Dawson. It looks like she plays a psycho ex-wife, so maybe she's taking your advice!
  4. There were rumors about Heigl's attitude and how difficult she could be all the way back to her Roswell days. She still got tons of chances and even now that she has several flops, she is still getting chances. I don't get that at all.
  5. I think you make a good point. It also fits the tendency of American entertainment to equate paleness (especially blondness) with innocence and being delicate and to only cast whites in roles where the character needs to elicit a lot of sympathy or sense of protectiveness from the audience. POC don't tend to get cast in those types of roles, especially where the audience is supposed to hold the characters as not accountable for the stuff happening to them or we're supposed to find their situation shocking. I wasn't surprised at all that the teen fieldworker is blonde and the teen prostitute is blonde too. Maybe things will change later on.
  6. This is the second time Alex has made lasagna. I've had to laugh each time, because the production uses a pan that is clearly supposed to look "futuristic", but it actually appears to be one of those "all-edges" brownie pans that I've been eyeing on Amazon. This show has such good production values and visuals, especially considering its likely small SyFy budget, that this really stood out to me. It's like when I noticed that Star Trek TNG was using my plastic faux Trapper Keeper to hold medical supplies. The politics and social structures are my favorite parts of this show, so this episode was a winner in my view. Watching Chrisjen take charge p and maneuver is always enjoyable, but her smackdown this ep was a masterpiece. Plus, she did it while looking absolutely stunning. Along with Shoreh deserving an emmy, the costume designer should win some awards.

    S03.E17: Duet

I'm a sucker for musicals and was super excited about this, but eh, it was alright. The songs didn't do a lot for me. I stopped watching Glee before Melissa Benoit started, so I'm not familiar with her singing usually, but her Moon River was just okay for me here. I like Gustin's voice, but I did not care at all for the song Running Home to You. The Super Friends song was cute though, not "I'll Never Tell" from Buffy level, but cute. On the other hand, I did really enjoy Cisco and Winn singing together as well as the trio of Joe, Malcolm, and Stein. Not a whole lot to say about the plot. It was just an excuse for the musical, so I'm not mad at it. I just wish the writers had figured out a way to do it without making WestAllen go through such stupidity the last few episodes. Hopefully that will be over now and WestAllen can be happy. Paralleling their deep relationship with Mon El and Kara was a bit of a headscratcher, but I adore Chris Wood and like watching him so *shrug*. Heh, that makes sense to me. I generally think the songs from Crazy Ex Girlfriend are cute and nothing I've seen of LalaLand has appealed to me at all.
  8. Korean BBQ, particularly beef short ribs with rice, kimchi, and all the side dishes. Like TLC would pass up the trainwreck drama of drug raids and porch baths. RE: the generation changes in eating habits, I really enjoyed this book. By the number of people who have used the phrase "salt, sugar, and fat", I would guess that more than a few of you know about it already. I don't know if I agree with all his conclusions and it's not the whole story, but I did think a lot of it had merit. Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us
  9. This might be old news, but I thought the rumor was that Han's love interest in this movie was going to be black, since they were looking at black actresses and his LI was black in the expanded universe. Even after Emilia Clarke was cast, people were still speculating that she was another of the female roles and a black woman could still be cast. Well, I guess the first set photo lays that theory to rest (at least for me, since I haven't really been paying attention. You guys probably already knew.) I'm disappointed. There have been no black females featured in the 8 movies yet. (In fact, all the women have looked kinda alike.) Also, I really dislike Clarke's acting.
  10. Assuming Bonnie lives to a ripe old age, Elena won't wake up until Stefan is really old and close to death if not already dead. It might work out for Damon and Elena. I've only been half-watching this season, but I actually thought this was a pretty good episode. It makes me hopeful that the show might wrap up decently. But yeah, I echo everyone else - why can't Bonnie ever be allowed to be happy?!?
  11. I prefer Donald O'Connor's dancing over Gene Kelly's.
  12. I really like Tom Mison. He's talented, has charisma, and he's blazing hot. I hope to see him in other projects. As Crane though, I feel like his performance has mostly devolved into tics (especially the hand stuff) and schtick. I don't blame him. I think the show leans too heavily on Crane as a caricature instead of a character. That's a danger of putting too much emphasis on the flashy characters. The straight men are often just as if not more important because of the need to ground them. As for Lyndie, she's fine for the most part, but her weaknesses show when she's given too much focus or when the scenes require a lot of emotion. I still cringe when I think of Sonya (who I loved) telling Birkhoff that she was in danger on Nikita. Yikes. I'm so happy to see the amount of people here and on other sites admit to being petty. It makes me feel better that I'm not the only one. I used to look forward to SH so much, because I loved it. Now, I'm looking forward to it just to see if the ratings tank.
  13. I actually liked the hair. They should have taken this opportunity to update his wardrobe as well. Not one person in the new scooby gang thought his outfit was odd? Okay.
  14. Ugh. Focusing on the Crane Family Drama the first time was the worst choice the show ever made ( and there are a ton of bad choices competing for that title). I cannot believe they think this is a good idea. They are so incredibly out of touch with the show's viewers. That just shows that still, after everything's that happened, they believe that Crane is the end all be all of Sleepy Hollow. They have no conception that he was one of many factors that all worked together to become greater than its constituent parts. So, over the seasons, they've gotten rid of Abbie, the Ichabbie chemistry and partnership, most of the mythology, the masons, Orlando Jones, Andy, Katrina in a proper tertiary role, Moloch, Headless, and even the atmospheric town of Sleepy Hollow itself with the juxtaposition of the quaint, the historic, and the batshit crazy that set the show apart. But sure, let's bring back the CFD. That's what people want!
  15. This. Plus that we watched Abbie become increasingly marginalized over seasons when she started out as such a great, strong lead. It wasn't just her leaving the show. It was the culmination of many things.
  16. I somehow missed that he was tweeting someone else's story and was wondering why Diego Luna's father was tripped out about his son having an accent in the movie. Sigh. Reading is fundamental! Once I had caught up, I was very moved. Yes, people seeing people like themselves ( and no they don't need to be exact matches, cue the "I'm a whatever something or other and I never see that on-screen and you don't see me complaining" types) is important. It reinforces that they matter, that they are fine and accepted the way they are, that they are part of the tapestry of our society despite not being like the majority, that they are not just "others", that they are not invisible, and that they can be heroes and not just extras in other people's stories. I'm glad this guy's father got to have that experience, but I'm even more glad that a generation of children can see themselves in Star Wars.
  17. Welp, I thought that was better than season 3 at least. The new partner seemed fine, though I didn't think she had any chemistry with Crane. I think I would've preferred Sophie. I liked Jake, but hated poor man's Happy. She grated on me, plus I just didn't buy her as a federal employee. I think maybe this crew could grow on me, but considering this premiered to a 0.6 rating, I don't know if I want to invest in new characters. I feel like this show has asked me to do this too many times already and I've given the show enough chances to revamp and improve. Why bother if it's just getting cancelled anyway. This renewal was basically because Fox had little else and it's just a place holder. While I love Crane and Mison is fine, he was never the main draw for me, so just throwing him into a generic monster of the week procedural isn't enough for me. I think I may watch if I have nothing else to do, but this show will never be appointment television for me ever again.
  18. Buzzfeed article about the reboot focusing on Janina Gavankar. How "Sleepy Hollow" Is Rebooting In Season 4 The controversial death of Abbie Mills left a void — in Ichabod Crane’s life, in viewers’ hearts, and in the show itself. But Janina Gavankar, Sleepy Hollow’s new female lead, won’t be trying to take Abbie’s place in Season 4. In my opinion, SH died a long time before Abbie did. I won't be watching this season, but I am curious how this turns out.
  19. I still can't believe this petty playground bully is our PE.
  20. Also Nikita! I'm sure Rob Stewart is a perfectly nice person in real life, but I'd still not want to be on his bad side. I agree. I like that Aaron isn't some morally pure hero we all root for. He's much more interesting this way. I think this show is really hitting it's groove. I'm enjoying pretty much all the aspects of it except fight club. And while the futuristic tech can get kinda hokey, many of the dystopic elements resonate a lot with me. In my area, there's a yearly subscription fee for ambulance service. It's voluntary, but if you don't pay it and you wind up needing an ambulance, you end up with a huge penalty. The debtor's prison reminds me a lot of the privatized jails and probation services where you can end up in cycles of incarceration and debt. The poor not being able to afford health care from that prior episode obviously isn't even that fictional now. The show doesn't feel that far fetched. Except for the 20 year sex slave contract. That seems pretty excessive for a lot of different reasons.
  21. I'm bummed that Roger is dead. He was interesting to watch.
  22. Someone posted this on another forum while discussing the "are Trump voters racist" question. I think it sums things up nicely.
  23. I think the Bothans line is from Jedi, so that was information for the second death star under construction. If we ever get a movie for that mission, I guess that won't have a happy ending either. I agree with the posters that said it was slow to start, but was amazing once it got going. My only reservation (besides the cluttered beginning) was the Forrest Whitaker character. He just seemed like he was in a different movie and felt unnecessary. I liked the idea of showing the different philosophies in the rebellion, but I hated the execution of that particular plotline. Plus, Jyn losing two fathers in one film seemed a bit much.
  24. I'm going to be so disappointed if Fox doesn't renew Pitch. While it definitely has its issues, I've grown to love this show and these characters. Plus, the cast is so great. MPG has especially surprised and impressed me, but everyone from Kylie to one-off guest stars like Wendy Malick have been amazing. I only wish that the show had gotten a 13-episode run instead of just ten, because the story sometimes felt rushed or shortcutted. The brother stuff in particular seemed like it was just too much too soon. I wish they had held that off until season 2 (please!). Without it, maybe we could have gotten more of Ginny growing from her breakdown and really establishing her place with the team leading into her mound empowerment speech. Also, it would have been nice to actually see more of Ginny and Mike getting close in ways that were different from a normal catcher/pitcher relationship or a captain mentoring a rookie, before threatening to change the relationship with UST or having him pull away as he thought about leaving. Outside of the All-Star episode, did we see them have non-baseball related interactions? I would have appreciated seeing their cilantro talk, not just hearing about it. TPTB should be thankful that KB and MPG's chemistry saves a lot of their stuff. Things I liked about the episode: Ginny and Mike pulling back from their almost-kiss and keeping it fairly professional. Both of them have other things they need to concentrate on right now They're still endgame in my head though. Mound speeches bookending Ginny's season 1 journey. I loved Ginny taking charge and turning things around from the pilot, but I also like that there was some hubris in it. I think season 2 (please!) is going to show that she's overshooting a bit and learning that she can accept help and support without it overpowering her owns wants and needs. All the female/female interaction. For a show that could have been so testosterone-heavy considering its subject matter, I think they've done a good job with balancing that with Amelia, Evelyn, and even Rachel. Speaking of Evelyn, Meagan Holder is so endearing. Her reactions are always great, but her "wh-what?!?" upon hearing that Ginny had a moment with Mike made me howl. In fact, that whole conversation was gold. "Say more words!" Hee! All the funny. In addition to Evelyn's stuff, we got "Yeah, we're not doing that", "Just because you're not moving doesn't mean we can't see you", "What's up, guys? Get away!", Ginny's reaction to being ignored, and all the gloriously awkward Mike/Ginny moments. Oscar, once again, showing that he's really good at his job. After disliking him in the pilot, Oscar has somehow become one of my favorite characters and Mark Consuelos is killing it. His "huh??" when being told about the nude photos in the San Francisco episode is probably my favorite reaction shot in the show outside of Evelyn's moments. Things I didn't like: Noah is way too much of a fantasy. The actor is great, but the character and relationship are straight romcom territory. Blip's drama. After pointing out how it's not easy for Mike to Ginny in the last episode, why was he being such a giant baby in this one? Blip's tension with Evelyn and Mike's with the rest of the team was enough, I didn't need the division between Mike and Blip too. I would have rather have seen Mike and Blip disagree over pulling Ginny while still remaining professional and showing why Blip is next in line to be captain. Ending on this note. I think cutting off the high of a possible no-hitter with a cliffhanger injury was well-done, but coupling that with breaking almost every single other relationship was a downer to potentially end the series on. Even if it does come back, feeling like it's going to return with everyone fighting won't exactly make me wait with bated breath for nine months until it does. Give people something to look forward to show! Shallow thoughts: Rachel's cropped pantsuit was freaking awful. What the heck. I have similar hair texture to Ginny and my hair never looks that good in the morning. I need to learn her secret. Even if I didn't think this show was as great as I do, l would still wish for renewal just so I could continue staring at MPG as Mike Lawson.
  25. Argh. This show can't end on that note with everything down or in flux. I actually liked quite a lot of this episode, but I can't even talk about it right now, because I'm so depressed. If this really is the end, I just wanted the show to end in a good place. Please get renewed!
