  1. Sorry, computer issues here. Do I lose sleep over someone grieving over a stranger as they would a loved one - no. I just find it odd. Anyway, I guess my unpopular opinion is that celebrity deaths just don't affect me too much, sad or maddening (as in someone dying too early) as they are. I can bawl over an animal dying though so don't think too little of me. Oh, and onto a totally different UO, I really like Guy Fieri and most of the competitive cooking shows on Food Network.
  2. Just to be clear, I am not talking about feeling genuinely sad about Prince's death and maybe shed a few tears. I am talking about those that sob and weep as though they lost a personal friend or relative. That I don't understand. I get that a death like this may bring up memories and feelings in your own life which is understandable. When it comes down to it though, I did not know Prince. I can be sad he is gone (and truly am), but that is different from those that knew him personally. Their lives will be affected I'm a way that the average fan will not go through. The fact that some fans, who never met the man, act like their grief is the same as his loved ones is what I find troubling.
  3. Toolazy, if I remember right, the tie on Throwdown was during an outdoor barbeque episode. I think it was in Texas and it was so hot that when the judges declared a tie, Bobby Flay just happily went with it. It was pretty funny because I think all he wanted was to get somewhere air conditioned!
  4. One thing with Air Disasters is that I like the episodes better when it is a mechanical failure rather than pilot error. I just feel worse when a crash is due to pilot error. Plus, I am a bit fascinated at what makes a plane fly. You would think with either problem I wouldn't want to fly after watching so many of these shows. But it doesn't effect me. I still travel by plane and have no problems.
  5. I once watched a marathon of Air Disasters a few days before I was set to fly somewhere. I'm not a masochistic, I just find the stories fascinating, esp. when they are in different countries.
  6. Awhile back, I saw some show about Laverne and Shirley, which had some notorious problems behind the scenes. They were interviewing some higher up who worked on the show but I don't remember who. He said one night he was sitting in his car about to leave, when most of the cast walked out the building and he truely thought about gunning the engine and running them all down. He quit shortly after because he said when you start wanting to run down the crew, it is time to get another job. It was just funny the way he said it and it is an idea to live by.
  7. OK, (in a very small voice), I kind of liked Sam's dress, esp. over Emily's. However, I could see both going home, but it didn't surprise me that Sam stayed. What really surprised me was how much I liked Boy George and his comments. I have seen him before and wasn't really impressed. But, here, he was funny and insightful.
  8. Kiddo82, you said it much better than me!
  9. No, not at all. While I liked Prince and am sorry about his death, I am not overcome. In fact, I will never understand people who weep over total strangers, which in essence, a celebrity is. I think it actually is demeaning to the actual friends and family of the deceased. I guess I am a heartless monster, too.
  10. Magicdog, I had a similar reaction to the movie "Three Men and a Baby". To this day I become incensed that the men were just going to give the baby back to the woman who dumped her kid off at a strangers door, without even a extra diaper or food. But she was in a bad place, poor thing. I still think they should have kicked her pathetic but out the door. I know it has been years, but that was an awful movie!
  11. For summer color alone, I would put Sam, Kini, and Ken in the top three. Maybe because I have summer fever, but seeing the dark colors was an automatic turn off. That being said, I did like Emily's (even though I was so distracted by that God awful haircut). I really liked Kini's look which surprised me. Usually I don't like that kind of pant, but somehow it all worked. Sam's was OK and, yes, Alyssa is very over him.
  12. Any reality show with kids as the contestants. It could be the best show ever, but I have no interest. Heck, most of them are bad enough on fictional shows.
  13. When I saw Sam's dress, all I could think of was the old Carol Burnett skit parady of Gone with the Wind. She sat down in her hoop skirt and it shot up in her face. That is probably what would happen to a women wearing Sam's skirt. Bam, right in the face! Not exactly stadium friendly.
  14. I am so with you about Abby. She is the reason I could never really get into the show. Plus, the fact that she is wearing the same outfit. It may have looked cool as a teenager but as the winkles are beginning to show, she just looks stupid.
  15. So I was reading a Food Network magazine and there was a short article on the host and his kitchen. I had no idea he is the actor that played the cute boyfriend in the movie Mean Girls. I thought he looked vaguely familiar but never bothered to check his filmography.
  16. This episode came across as a "very special" episode. They had to deal with racism, sexism, bigotry, etc. The trouble was everything was watered down with too much going on and nothing really worked. I didn't care about any story. It wasn't a bad episode, just kind of boring. They should have concentrated on one "ism" to make the story stronger.
  17. Yeah, it was pretty bad and has really put me off the whole show. I can't say I will never watch again, but it will definitely not be the same.
  18. There used to be some design show and some designers would put in ottomans that the homeowners could use for "extra entertaining seating". My back just hurt thinking about it. I live in a small place (not a tiny home) and it does make you think about how much stuff you really need. However, there are still some basic conveniences that I think people still want such as a full size couch or a bigger than dorm room size refrigerator. Wait til there are a few days of bad weather and the homeowners are stuck inside with a half empty frig and a few pads to sit on. Not relaxing at all!
  19. I am a little surprised last year's winner hasn't been mentioned more or at least mentioned how annoying she still is. I don't understand the extra help benefit. Everyone seems to do poorly when they get it. Duff was badly used last year, too.
  20. Sharpie66, I went to my one and only convention at the Rosemont. It was so good I honestly didn't want to go to another one for fear of being disappointed. I'm jealous about the Tom Baker meeting. The closest I got to an actor was when Jon Pertwee walked by me in costume and I thought that was pretty exciting!
  21. Ringthane, we must have grown up at about the same time in the same area. Sunday nights were great (at least in the summer when I could stay up). I also have most of the novels. I keep thinking I should get rid of them, but don't have the heart.
  22. I really liked Padua. He had a tough break (literally) at the wrong time. I kept hoping one of the contestants I didn't like would have a bad turn, but it wasn't to be.
  23. I thought John was saved and the one blonde woman was sent home. However, I was flipping channels back and forth and may have missed something.
