Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series

You love Emily Bett Rickards just as much as we do, and we know we haven't seen the last of Felicity Smoak, right? Each woman in this category made us feel deeply this year, and we can't pay any higher honor to them than telling them just how much they affect us.

GOLD:
Emily Bett Rickards (Arrow)

SILVER:
Mae Whitman (Good Girls)

BRONZE:
Meryl Streep (Big Little Lies)

OTP of the Year

Well it came down to the wire and the top two duked it out for days, but Suits' Harvey and Donna came out on top as your OTP of the Year! Congratulations to them and to Olicity fans who fought valiantly (and still are honorable with a silver medal!), and to fans of Schitt's Creek who I think are just happy to be in this caliber company.

GOLD:
Harvey/Donna (Suits)

SILVER:
Oliver/Felicity (Arrow)

BRONZE:
David/Patrick (Schitt’s Creek)

Ranked! Our Top 10 Actress Picks for Disney+ ‘She-Hulk’
by Tony Gautier Aug 29th, 2019
https://www.mandatory.com/culture/1526023-actress-picks-disneys-she-hulk

Quote

At D23, Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige dropped a few bombshells announcing more upcoming titles for the Disney+ service, one of them being the latest addition to the MCU: She-Hulk. It immediately set our brains on fire with fan-casting possibilities, as to who we’d love to see take on the title role. So we did some deep dives and critical thinking over which actress would be the perfect fit for both the lawyer by day, Jennifer Walters, and her inner beast, She-Hulk, who may or may not rip off her pants. This can’t just be just any actress; it has to be someone who is as hard as they are soft (and occasionally hand out a decent ass whooping). One thing is certain: The Hulk future is feminine (but still raging with some testosterone, most likely).

Best Superhero TV Shows Of The Decade
BY THOMAS BACON – ON SEP 08, 2019
https://screenrant.com/best-superhero-shows-decade-2010s/

Quote

8. ARROW
...
Stephen Amell embodies the Green Arrow for an entire generation of viewers. Launched in 2012, Arrow is the story of a billionaire who was lost at sea, and unexpectedly returned as a trained warrior with an insatiable hunger for justice. The Green Arrow is, by nature, a solitary hero; and yet Arrow's genius lay in forcing him to become part of a team, something bigger than himself, meaning he had to face his own responsibilities and ethical code head-on. Arrow became the foundation for an entire shared universe of superhero TV shows, which explains why it ranks higher than the rest of the Arrowverse, due to sheer cultural significance.

11. SUPERGIRL
10. JESSICA JONES
9. THE FLASH
8. ARROW
7. MISFITS
6. AGENTS OF SHIELD
5. THE BOYS

Ultimately, this is what this entire CarterMatt poll series for the month of September is all about! Within this article, we have six different characters who are missed by many on their respective shows. At the end of the article, there’s a poll for you to vote for who you’d love to see back! The two characters with the most votes will move on to the next round. The only real criteria we have is that these characters are not currently series regulars on their former shows — and they are still among the living.
*  *  *
Voting rules – Vote however often you’d like! This poll will remain open until Wednesday, September 17 at 3:00 p.m. Pacific time. The second round will begin for the winners later that same day. (For more voting instructions or technical questions, check out the bottom of this article.)
*  *  *
Felicity Smoak, Arrow – By far the most recent of the departures on this list, as it was mere months ago when the character had her big farewell! Emily Bett Rickards is off now pursuing other things and while there’s hardly a guarantee she will return again, we’re cautiously optimistic that she could surface in the series finale.

In this piece, Maggie Sawyer, Jack Dalton, April Kepner, and Felicity Smoak are all going to have a chance to compete for two spots in the finale. We’ll have a poll at the bottom of this article for you to have your voice heard. Remember, two of these four will make it to the final round — if one character breaks out to a big lead, there’s still hope for another one to make a leap forward to the finals!

Voting rules – Vote however often you’d like! This poll will remain open until Monday, September 23 at 3:00 p.m. Pacific time. The finale in this poll series will begin later that same day, with the winner crowned one week later on the 30th! (For more voting instructions or technical questions, check out the bottom of this article.)
*  *  *
Felicity Smoak, Arrow – Finally, we turn to the most recent exit of these four. We’re still reeling from losing Emily Bett Rickards from the show, just like we’re also still reeling from the fact that so many other former cast members have been confirmed to return and not her. What gives with that? We’re hoping that there is still a chance for her at some point, so we’ll continue to keep watch.

*  *  *
Felicity Smoak, Arrow – Finally, here we have the curious case of Felicity. She’s one of the characters we’re the most confident about in terms of whether or not she will come back, mostly because it’s the final season and there is such a clear demand. Yet, at the same time it feels foolish to ever expect anything for certain.

10 CW Stars Who Are Total Jerks (And 10 Who Are Sweethearts)
by Natasha Brown – on Sep 26, 2019
https://www.thetalko.com/cw-stars-who-are-total-jerks-and-who-are-sweethearts/

Quote

19 Sweetheart: Stephen Amell
...
He may play the mean and moody Oliver Queen aka The Green Arrow on The CW’s original superhero series Arrow, but actor Stephen Amell is nothing like his intense on-screen character. He is a big hit at fans conventions, and always has plenty of time to pose for pictures with Arrow fans who have dressed up for the occasion.
*  *  *
16  Jerk: Katie Cassidy
...
As an integral part of Team Arrow, Katie Cassidy, otherwise known as Laurel Lance or the Black Canary, has been a big part of the successful show from day one. Any star of a superhero TV show will tell you that fans’ conventions are an essential part of the job, but Cassidy would apparently rather hit the shops than sign autographs.
*  *  *
12  Jerk: Robert Knepper
...
In the era of #MeToo, a lot of older actors are finding that behavior that was considered acceptable ten or twenty years ago won’t fly today. This was what happened with Robert Knepper, a familiar face from many TV series and Blaine’s father in iZombie. He was accused by several women of harassment – charges he vehemently denies.
*  *  *
6  Jerk: Manu Bennett
...
Kiwi actor Manu Bennett played good guy turned bad guy turned good guy Slade Wilson and his evil alter ego Deathstroke, although it seems he took the bad behavior a little too far while staying in San Antonio for a fans’ convention when he was arrested after a party he was attending had got more than a little out of hand.
*  *  *
1  Sweetheart: John Barrowman
...
Malcolm Merlyn may be the ultimate bad guy in Arrow, having been responsible for the death of Oliver Queen’s father and the destruction of Starling City. However, actor John Barrowman who plays Merlyn couldn’t be more different. Known for his outgoing sense of humor and his love of musical theatre, Barrowman is about as far from the League of Assassins as you can get.

DCTV: The 10 Best Moments of Last Season
By Joshua Lapin-Bertone  October 2, 2019

Quote

10 Arrowverse, the Next Generation
Remember when Arrow used to divide their episodes between flashbacks and present-day scenes? This year the format was turned on its head with a plotline set decades into the future as Oliver’s son William and daughter Mia worked with a group of freedom fighters to take down an oppressive corporation. Things all came to a head in “Star City 2040,” a standout episode set entirely in the future. Seeing the adult William help Mia break into Galaxy One’s headquarters was cool, but what did you think of them being saved by Connor Hawke, agent of Knightwatch? That was too awesome for words. The heroes were able to rescue Felicity (it turns out the rumors of her death were premature) and escape from Galaxy One without incident. There’s the possibility that Katherine McNamara’s Mia will lead an all-female spin-off once Arrow ends, and if it’s anything like this, I’m all for it.
*  *  *
8  Oliver’s Prison Brawl
Oliver Queen spent the first act of Arrow season 7 incarcerated at Slabside Penitentiary, and you know what that means—prison fights! We got a lot of good ones, but they were nothing compared to the beatdowns we saw in the flat-out spectacular episode “The Slabside Redemption.” Diaz took control of the prison and released all the inmates, causing a massive riot. Oliver was forced to fight for his life as he beat up a gauntlet of guards and prisoners as he made his way through the prison. It all led to a rage-fueled fight between Oliver and Ricardo Diaz, the man responsible for most of Oliver’s problems. Both men gave some and got some, but then Diaz made the mistake of ripping up a picture of Oliver’s wife and son. That gave Ollie the push he needed to take Diaz down and effectively end their brawl…for now. Oliver was released from prison by the end of the episode, but the season was just getting started.
*  *  *
1  All of Elseworlds
Some of you might accuse me of cheating, because this three-part crossover is more than a moment…but so what. It’s my list so I’m doing it this way! And honestly, I kind of have to because if I didn’t combine all of “Elseworlds” into one entry, the many, MANY spectacular sequences found within last season’s crossover would probably fill up this whole list. Seriously, how great was “Elseworlds”? We heard the Smallville theme song as we visited the old Kent farm set, we met Batwoman, we saw the heroes switch powers and we finally found out where S.T.A.R. Labs prisoners go to the bathroom! That entire crossover was a love letter to the fans, and I can’t wait to see what they’ll come up with this year for “Crisis on Infinite Earths.”

10 Arrowverse, the Next Generation
9  Flash, Kid Flash and XS Vibrate an Airplane through a Building
8  Oliver’s Prison Brawl
7  All Hail Gary
6  Lex and Eve Reveal Themselves
5  Jason Todd Saves Dick Grayson
4  Penguin Kills Tabitha
3  Flex Mentallo’s Happy Ending
2  Tobias Whale Lends a Hand
1  All of Elseworlds

Oliver & Felicity (Arrow) vs. Magnus & Alec (Shadowhunters) – ‘Shiptober poll
Arrow, Shadowhunters, Shiptober October 2, 2019
https://cartermatt.com/381432/oliver-felicity-arrow-vs-magnus-alec-shadowhunters-shiptober/

Quote

Welcome to ‘Shiptober 2019! Throughout the month of October, CarterMatt will be bringing you our annual tournament featuring some of best ‘ships in all of TV. What is a ‘ship? It is comprised of characters you want to see together romantically. Maybe they’re already together, or maybe they’ve never been together. It doesn’t matter. ‘Shipping is one of the most popular parts of any TV fandom, it’s super fun and this tournament is a celebration of that.
*  *  *
Voting Rules – Voting will be underway in the poll below from now until Thursday, October 10 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. Vote however often you’d like! (For more voting instructions or technical questions, check out the bottom of this article for answers.)
*  *  *
Oliver & Felicity, Arrow (#2 seed) – It’s crazy to look back and think that Olicity was not an original part of the show on some substantial level — yet, the producers and writers were wise enough to pick up on the chemistry and humor that these two characters had in the early going. Because of that, it grew to become a loving, passionate relationship that still kept its sense of humor — and now is thought of as a cornerstone relationship in the entire Arrowverse. Oliver & Felicity, in some way, paved the path for many other ‘ships to follow.

Hollywood's 50 Most Powerful TV Showrunners of 2019

Greg Berlanti
All American, Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Riverdale, Black Lightning (The CW); Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, You (Netflix); God Friended Me (CBS); Blindspot (NBC); Doom Patrol, Titans (DC Universe)
...
Setting new records for his series load every year, Berlanti, 47, now counts 19 shows across seven outlets (including four of the five broadcast networks) as part of his $400 million overall deal with Warner Bros. Highlights — and there are plenty — include quiet CBS breakout God Friended Me and Lifetime-to-Netflix sleeper You.

The writer-producer I'd trade places with for a day "Any first-time showrunner — as hard as it is, there is truly nothing as exciting."

The biggest challenge to staffing in 2019 "I was really proud that everyone at our company worked so hard to get fresh voices, and without agents."

The best piece of writing advice I've ever received ... "Write something totally new every few years to remember your own voice."

3 FELICITY SMOAK
...
When we first meet Felicity Smoak she’s just an ordinary IT person at Queen Consolidated. It doesn’t take long for Walter and Oliver to realize how special her genius really is. She’s an instant asset to Oliver’s cause, falling in love from the moment he brings her a computer with bullet holes.

Throughout the series, it’s been well established that Felicity can do anything. Whether it’s hacking top secret government files, finding answers from destroyed DNA, fighting Nazi doppelgangers or stopping nuclear missiles, the entire Arrowverse would be lost without her.

BLACK CANARY Black Canary has been fighting crime since her debut in DC Comics' "The Flash" in 1947, first as the alter ego of Dinah Drake -- who eventually married police detective Larry Lance -- and later by her daughter, Dinah Laurel Lance, who most frequently teams up romantically and crime-fightingly with Green Arrow. Originally written to have no powers, she later acquired a sonic scream called the "canary cry" that can shatter objects and kill enemies. She was voiced by Morena Baccarin in Cartoon Network's "Justice League Unlimited," and three different versions of the character have been played by Katie Cassidy, Caity Lotz, and Juliana Harkavy in The CW's Arrowverse. Jurnee Smollett-Bell will play her in the upcoming "Birds of Prey" live action film.

"Emily arrived on Arrow playing a character that was only supposed to be an IT employee in one episode and she ended up changing the course of the show. Also, Felicity and Oliver's relationship wouldn't have existed without Emily and Stephen Amell's chemistry. I can't think of a TV role more brilliantly cast."

10 Best Costumes In The Arrowverse, Ranked
by Kevin Pantoja – on Oct 12, 2019

4  BLACK CANARY
...
Speaking of Sara Lance's days as the Black Canary, she makes this list twice. And yes, we're talking about Sara's time under the mask. Not her sister Laurel or Dinah Drake. Don't get us wrong, they both looked good as the Black Canary and filled in admirably. But Sara is tops.

Her costume was just as good as she was. We love the gritty look of this. Before meta-humans were introduced, Arrow was a show grounded in reality. Sara's leather jacket and domino mask were both highly effective. She added the platinum blonde wig to make sure nobody recognized her.

3  GREEN ARROW
...
Since his show has been around the longest, it makes sense that Oliver Queen has gone through the most suit upgrades. And if you're going to keep getting upgrades, you want the latest versions to be the best. Around season 6, we feel that the Green Arrow costume reached its peak.

This version of the costume works as something of a combination of everything that came before it. The armor pieces look better than ever. The hood is the perfect size to cover just enough of the mask and still allow Oliver to see everything. It leaves a lot of room for mobility. It's perfect for the character.

10 KILLER FROST
9  THE ATOM
8  THE FLASH
7  SPEEDY
6  REVERSE FLASH
5  WHITE CANARY
4  BLACK CANARY [Sara Lance version]
3  GREEN ARROW
2  SUPERGIRL
1  DEATHSTROKE

The results of the GATV polls this year. No wonder Craig was so salty about everyone asking about Felicity in the crossovers.

Wow, the write-up at the beginning of least favorite episode. The bias is showing. That was unnecessary.

I may actually pay attention to (as in if it pops up on my Twitter timeline or I stumble across it, I’ll read whatever it is) whatever he does in the place of Best Pairing for Season 8 just to see how he tries to get the result he wants.

It's not Craig if there's no bitterness in the writeups. That's what makes them fun.

If he tries to bring back best pairing, I'm guessing Olicity fans will rally around the flashforward kids. Mia/Connor, any combination of the 2040 Team Arrow. And Kat M is going to easily take over the best actor (female) category, since she's a regular and her fanbase loves to vote in everything.

I started laughing because he picks the categories. I'm curious (not really) which episode he would pick as the worst. I'm sure it would involve a lot of Felicity screen time.
