Arrow‘s William Tells All to Oliver

Upon being flung back in time 20 years, William had so much to tell his father, Oliver. For one, yes, he turned out to be a tech mogul. But more importantly, “I’m gay,” William shared. Oliver’s reaction came in the form of a loving smile, followed by the confession that he and Felicity suspected as much during the lad’s teen years. “We hoped that you would come out to us when you were comfortable,” he explained. Alas, given the drama surrounding a vigilante’s kid, “You clearly didn’t get that chance, and that’s on me,” Oliver apologized. When it comes to tender father/son moments, this one hit the bull’s-eye.

Joe West and the 7 Best Dads from the Arrowverse
by Louis Skye    June 15, 2020
https://showsnob.com/2020/06/15/7-best-dads-arrowverse/

Quote

Despite the number of fathers and father figures in the shared universe, the ones that stand out are the horror dads—such as Damien Darhk, who let a demon possess his daughter, or dads like Noah Kuttler—Felicity Smoak’s father—a dangerous individual who put so many lives in jeopardy before finding redemption.
*  *  *
But while dads like Malcolm Merlyn and Lewis Snart have us running for the hills, there are fathers like Joe West who restore our faith in humanity.

On this Father’s Day, we look at the seven best dads from the Arrowverse and why they’re so special to fans.
*  *  *
7. Best Dads from the Arrowverse: Maseo Yamashiro

Way back in season three of Arrow, Maseo Yamashiro proved to be one of the rare good dads on the show, and the Arrowverse.

Maseo only had one season to show fans what kind of father he was but it was enough. In the wake of Merlyn and Queen Sr, Maseo was the kind of dad who did everything in his power to protect his son, even if it meant facing untold danger.

Unfortunately for Maseo, his efforts came to naught when his son Akio was the first victim of a deadly man-made virus. But while his son’s death could have disqualified Maseo from this list, Akio’s legacy cemented Maseo’s place here.

Grief can take many forms, and for Maseo, losing Akio meant that he had not only failed his son, but he had failed as a person. He was no longer worthy of being Maseo, father of Akio. He abandoned his life, his name, and his wife, Tatsu/ Katana, to join the League of Assassins—which would serve as a literal prison for the prison that encompassed his heart.

Maseo didn’t do great things as an assassin, but his actions were powered by an overwhelming sense of love and loss that he felt for his son. Not the traditional idea of a ‘best dad’, but a dedicated one, nonetheless.
*  *  *
3. Best Dads from the Arrowverse: Quentin Lance

Content Warning: Addiction

The original best dad in the Arrowverse, Quentin Lance was such a far cry from the duplicitous Queens and Merlyns of the world, that he instantly became a fan-favourite character on Arrow.

Father to Laurel and Sara, Quentin adeptly juggled his career as detective with being ever-present in his daughters’ lives. Unfortunately for Quentin, his dedication to his daughters was his undoing.

When Sara was believed to have drowned at sea, Quentin took the news poorly—eventually he became addicted to alcohol as a way to dull his grief, driving his wife and older daughter away.

Nevertheless, Quentin cleaned up his act so he could be a better father to his remaining child. As a consequence, not only did he become closer to Laurel, but his job thrived as well. He also helped Laurel battle her own addiction when she struggled with losing her fiancé.

Quentin eventually got Sara back and was very accepting of her coming out as bisexual—as any great dad would be.

Despite losing his daughters again—and getting Sara back (again)—Quentin refused to fall back into addiction. He powered through and worked hard for his daughter’s memory—even taking in Laurel’s evil doppelganger and helping her become the hero he knew her to be.

The travails that plagued the Lance family in the Arrowverse should have been enough to break anyone but Quentin soldiered on in the hopes of making a better world for his daughters. When he lost them, he fought on in their memory.

He was even an excellent father figure to Oliver Queen—who he couldn’t stand for ages, with reason—and to Rene Ramirez. Quentin had a way of touching everyone’s lives and making it better—which is exactly what made him one of the best dads in the Arrowverse.

7. Best Dads from the Arrowverse: Maseo Yamashiro
6. Best Dads from the Arrowverse: Martin Stein
5. Best Dads from the Arrowverse: Henry Allen
4. Best Dads from the Arrowverse: J’onn J’onzz
3. Best Dads from the Arrowverse: Quentin Lance
2. Best Dads from the Arrowverse: Jefferson Pierce
1. Best Dads from the Arrowverse: Joe West

10 Best Onscreen Archers
BY SEBASTIAN ORELLANA    JUNE 23, 2020
https://screenrant.com/best-onscreen-archers/

Quote

2/10  Oliver Queen/Green Arrow - Arrowverse
...
Similar to Hawkeye, Green Arrow is a capable fighter but his claim to fame is his pinpoint accuracy. After spending 5 years on an island, he learned to shoot and fend for himself and quickly became a very capable archer and a well respected one.

He is known for his trick arrows and shots that defy physics as well as his ability to draw quickly and fire faster than someone can with a gun. He makes the bow and arrow cool for the 21st century.

10/10 Daryl Dixon - The Walking Dead (2010-)
9/10  Susan Pevensie - Narnia Trilogy
8/10  Ygritte – Game Of Thrones (2010-2019)
7/10  Katniss Everdeen - Hunger Games Franchise
6/10  Robin Hood - Robin Hood (2010)
5/10  Merida Of DunBroch - Brave (2013)
4/10  William Garin - The Great Wall (2016)
3/10  Clint Barton/Hawkeye - MCU
2/10  Oliver Queen/Green Arrow - Arrowverse
1/10  Legolas - The Lord Of The Rings Franchise

The 50 Best CW Ships

 LINDSAY MACDONALD JUN 26, 2020

https://www.tvguide.com/galleries/the-best-50-cw-ships-of-all-time-ranked/51/

Oliver and Felicity were ranked #1 on this list:

Quote

1. Oliver and Felicity, Arrow

Olicity is one of those weird ships that was probably never in the original plans for the show but somehow became a cornerstone of it. Oliver and Felicity's chemistry was palpable from the get-go, and they've traveled from strangers to friends to husband and wife, despite the seriously rocky road they had to take to get there. They're also one of the rare couples that provide fans with just as much entertainment during their domestic happiness as their angsty breakups, which is not easy. It all worked out in the end though, and thank goodness we got to see their happy ending in the afterlife in the Arrow series finale!

The Best Superhero Movies and TV Shows on Netflix Right Now

Arrow
...
While an argument can be made that DC's found scattered success on the big screen following Man of Steel, one arena it's solidly triumphed in is TV, where Arrow -- which focused on a presumed dead billionaire heir named Oliver Queen returning to his city as a hooded vigilante -- was able to kickstart an entire shared universe, and multiple sibling series, that eventually included The Flash, Supergirl, Black Lightning, and Batwoman. All of those shows are available to stream on Netflix.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

40 best TV nerds of all time, ranked, including Jim Parsons, Rainn Wilson, Jaleel White and more [PHOTOS]
Susan Pennington, Chris Beachum    July 20, 2020
https://www.goldderby.com/article/2020/best-tv-nerds-ranked-jim-parsons-rainn-wilson-jaleel-white-photos/

Quote

Some of these characters were originally meant to be on only one or two episodes, but became breakout characters. Urkel (Jaleel White) defined the word “nerd” for a generation, and has become his own slang term. Felicity Smoak’s (Emily Bett Rickards) nerd to Oliver Queen’s vigilante hero was an unexpected and very popular dynamic. Many of these nerds are not the leads of their programs, but they are some of the most memorable characters in the history of the medium. Enjoy this stroll down memory lane filled with nose honks and whistles, big glasses, high-pitched voices and those outcasts we love to root for.

16. Arrow
Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak

She was only supposed to be in one episode, but this quirky MIT computer nerd quickly won the hearts of audiences and soon became Oliver’s unlikely love interest. From her history as a hacker in college to her job at Queen Technologies, Felicity proves that she’s got the smarts to overcome any challenge that comes her -or the Green Arrow’s – way. Her geeky, often inappropriate, comments and unlikely romance with the lead superhero offer the show’s best comic-relief moments in what can be an otherwise very dark series.

30. EMIKO ADACHI (Arrow Season 7)

Compelling Backstory: 4
Fearsome Appearance: 3
Powers/Skills: 5
Utter Ruthlessness: 5
Eeeevilness of Agenda: 4
Despicable Damage Done: 3

Season 7’s “Who’s the new Green Arrow?” question wound up being far more provocative than the answer, as it was revealed that a daughter sired/abandoned by Robert Queen had grown up and undergone her own training to pose as the Emerald Archer and in doing so wreck her half-brother’s legacy. Alas, we never quite rooted for Emiko to have a change of heart and make nice with Oliver, nor did she pass as ruthless enough a foe.
*  *  *
27. RICARDO DIAZ (Arrow Season 6)

Compelling Backstory: 5
Fearsome Appearance: 4
Powers/Skills: 3
Utter Ruthlessness: 7
Eeeevilness of Agenda: 5
Despicable Damage Done: 6

Little more than a street tough with a childhood sob story, Diaz rose up the criminal ranks and allied with hacker Cayden James, Earth-Two meta Laurel Lance and others to take control of Star City, destroying Oliver’s life in the process.
*  *  *
18. RA’S AL GHUL (Arrow Season 3)

Compelling Backstory: 6
Fearsome Appearance: 5
Powers/Skills: 6
Utter Ruthlessness: 8
Eeeevilness of Agenda: 8
Despicable Damage Done: 7

The Demon’s Head who famously pitched a stabbed Oliver off the top of a Nanda Parbat mountain, he went on to court Oliver as his successor — provided the local hero had the stones to wipe out Starling City with a bio-weapon.
*  *  *
10. DAMIEN DARHK (Arrow Season 4)

Compelling Backstory: 6
Fearsome Appearance: 5
Powers/Skills: 8
Utter Ruthlessness: 7
Eeeevilness of Agenda: 9
Despicable Damage Done: 8

Scorned long ago by the League of Assassins, the magic-wielding Darhk spearheaded his own evil entity, H.I.V.E., with the end game of no less than making (almost!) all of the world literally burn. Though he failed, he did kill Laurel Lance along the way, as well as dropped a bomb that Felicity rerouted to Havenrock.
*  *  *
7. THE ANTI-MONITOR (Arrow Season 8/’Crisis on Infinite Earths’)

Compelling Backstory: 6
Fearsome Appearance: 7
Powers/Skills: 10
Utter Ruthlessness: 9
Eeeevilness of Agenda: 10
Despicable Damage Done: 8

Fancying himself “destiny incarnate, inexorable and inescapable,” the Anti-Monitor aka Mobius was in some ways the Arrowverse’s Thanos, seeking as he did to eradicate universe after universe with an anti-matter cannon. In the end, the teamwork of the Paragons and Spectre/the late Oliver Queen — assisted by a nifty “shrink bomb” — rendered the baddie too literally tiny to be of consequence. (Points deducted for limited screen time.)
*  *  *
5. DARK ARCHER (Arrow Season 1)

Compelling Backstory: 6
Fearsome Appearance: 7
Powers/Skills: 8
Utter Ruthlessness: 7
Eeeevilness of Agenda: 9
Despicable Damage Done: 9

Having trained with the League of Assassins after his wife’s murder, Malcolm Merlyn plotted to demolish the sketchy part of town known as The Glades — but an upstart vigilante dubbed The Hood (actually his son Tommy’s BFF!) kept getting the way.
*  *  *
4. PROMETHEUS (Arrow Season 5)

Compelling Backstory: 6
Fearsome Appearance: 7
Powers/Skills: 8
Utter Ruthlessness: 9
Eeeevilness of Agenda: 8
Despicable Damage Done: 10 (R.I.P., Lian Yu!)

Out to avenge his father’s death at the Hood’s hand, Adrian Chase inserted himself into Oliver Queen’s life and yet refused to end it. Instead, he chose to torture his adversary with the notion that Oliver likes killing and thus is poison to everyone around him.
*  *  *
1. DEATHSTROKE (Arrow Season 2)

Compelling Backstory: 10
Fearsome Appearance: 8
Powers/Skills: 9
Utter Ruthlessness: 10
Eeeevilness of Agenda: 8
Despicable Damage Done: 9

Oliver’s extremely complicated Lian Yu past came back to bite him when Slade Wilson resurfaced as a Moira-murdering maker of mayhem whose sanity had been corrupted by mirakiru serum.

TBD. MIRROR MISTRESS (The Flash Season 6B)
30. EMIKO ADACHI (Arrow Season 7)

The SpoilerTV Favourite TV Series Competition 2020 - Day 10 - Arrow vs. Stargirl & Sense8 vs. Schitt's Creek

Arrow has featured in every competition since its premiere, but has four round one exits in that time. For the first time, it appears as a finished show, so maybe that will change its fortunes. Stargirl is just one season in and our draw has set up an all-DC Comics clash today. There seems to be plenty of interest in the new series around here. Despite Arrow's status as the third-most nominated finished show, Stargirl progressing wouldn't be too much a surprise.

The SpoilerTV Favourite TV Series Competition 2020 - Day 21 - The 100 vs. Teen Wolf & Arrow vs. Sense8

Arrow failed to reach the second round last year - the fourth such time it did that - but managed to earn victory in round one this year. Another today would give it a good chance of achieving its best-ever finish, having only ever reached the third round once back in 2015. To do so, it will have to beat Sense8, which overcame Schitt's Creek to make it back-to-back second-round appearances. Weirdly, these two shows both have identical best finishes: 15th.

Arrow is now up against The 100...

The SpoilerTV Favourite TV Series Competition 2020 - Day 27 - The 100 vs. Arrow & Supernatural vs. Leverage

The 100 continues its impressive form. This is the fourth-straight year it has reached round three, although only in 2018 has it gone further. It inflicted defeat on Teen Wolf to end the MTV show's foray into success and faces a fellow CW show today. Arrow has only once been in this round, finishing 15th back in 2015. I do often wonder if the end of a show can improve chances here; Arrow is eight months on from its series finale and in with a shout of its best-ever finish.

Where to Watch: Netflix

The Green Arrow might not have been a household name like Superman or Batman, but thanks to The CW's recent take on the character, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) managed to launch an entire DC multiverse, thank you very much. Arrow tells the story of entitled billionaire playboy, Oliver Queen, and his return home after spending five years on a deserted island. Though he maintains the party-boy persona by day, by night, he hunts down criminals in his city armed with a bow and arrow and a whole lot of martial arts.

THE 100 MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE OF 2020
*  *  *
Greg Berlanti
...
BY JENNIFER GARNER
SEPTEMBER 22, 2020 9:34 PM EDT

The first time Greg Berlanti and I sat down to speak about his 2018 coming-of-age film, Love, Simon, we dreamed together about a mother’s best-case-scenario response to her child’s coming out.

With our conversation as a jumping-off point, Greg wrote just about the most beautiful scene I had ever read. As a matter of fact, I loved everything about his script—it was fresh and brave, with a teen protagonist who just happened to be gay. In other words, exactly what the world needed.

Greg collaborates joyously, without ego. He has a clear vision, but receives feedback with vulnerability and respect. His well of creativity and excellent leadership skills have paid off—he is now the most prolific showrunner on TV, with a record 18 series orders in 2019. His warmth, integrity and goodness are revealed in each one of them.

Love, Simon follows me around in the happiest way. More times than I can count, strangers have felt moved to talk to me about the film and have cited my scene with Nick Robinson as a source of comfort and wisdom in their own journeys.

Thank you, Greg, for giving me the awesome responsibility of being that mom to teenagers and parents everywhere. I know that your husband, your son, your daughter and your sweet angel mom are proud of you, and just for the record—if I may be so bold—I am proud of you too.

Garner is an Emmy Award-nominated actor

71 Arrow
...
With just a green hood and that infamous salmon ladder, Oliver Queen kickstarted a whole universe of beloved superheroes with his fight to protect Star City. Each of these shows have successfully brought DC Comics to life on the small screen, but Arrow is the one that started it all, and therefore remains an essential pillar of the Arrowverse.

All CW shows on this list:
82 The Vampire Diaries
76 The Flash
71 Arrow
40 Supernatural
