2021 DC/Marvel Television Series Tournament - Round One, Day One
BY BRIAN CRONIN    MARCH 19, 2020
https://www.cbr.com/2021-dc-marvel-television-series-tournament-round-one-day-one/

Welcome to the 12th Annual CSBG DC/Marvel Character Tournament!

This time around, you will be voting for your favorite DC or Marvel live action television series and TV movies. Amusingly, this was also going to be the tournament last year, so the delay has changed the list dramatically, as WandaVision, Superman and Lois and Stargirl all debuted AFTER last March! Notably, though, I will not be including Falcon and Winter Soldier, as its FIRST episode only dropped TODAY, so that seems like too little to actually cover for something like this.

After the shows were all ranked, they were split into four different regions. In the early rounds, we'll do two regions a day.

Here are the first two regions and the match-ups!

Simply choose which show you like better. The voting concludes roughly 48 hours from right now!

Next is Arrow, the series starring Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, a vigilante who slowly turned into the superhero known as Green Arrow. The series launched the series of interconnected superhero shows known as the Arrowverse (who are now trying to go by a different name now that Arrow's run has finished) vs. Birds of Prey, a short-lived TV series before the WB became the CW, featuring the Birds of Prey from DC Comics, specifically Ashley Scott as Huntress, Dina Meyer as Oracle and Rachel Skarsten as Black Canary.

Simply choose which show you like better. The voting concludes roughly 48 hours from right now! I'm sorry that the voting is over Twitter, but the site that I had used for embedded poll voting for YEARS was purchased by someone else and it no longer is an option. If you know of another good and free embedded poll site, please let me know, I'd gladly use it in the future. For now, we're stuck with Twitter polls.

Superboy upset Human Target (2010) 59% to 41% and Arrow trounced Birds of Prey 80% to 20%.

The series launched the series of interconnected superhero shows known as the Arrowverse (who are now trying to go by a different name now that Arrow's run has finished) vs. Superboy, a syndication series produced by the Salkinds (the producers of the Superman movies) that ran for four seasons, with John Haymes Newton playing the title role in Season 1 and then Gerard Christopher taking over for Seasons 2-4.

WandaVision beat Titans, 81% to 19% and Arrow poked holes in Superboy, 87% to 13%

Our first matchup pits the recent Disney+ streaming series, WandaVision, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany as Wanda Maximoff and Vision from the Avengers films, about Wanda's grief taking the form of a town transformed into a sitcom reality, while the government tries to discover what is happening to the city and we learn that perhaps another force is taking control of the situation that Wanda has created versus Arrow, the series starring Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, a vigilante who slowly turned into the superhero known as Green Arrow, and went from being a lone avenger to being the leader of a team filled of heroes. The series launched the series of interconnected superhero shows known as the Arrowverse (who are now trying to go by a different name now that Arrow's run has finished)

13 of the Best Superhero TV Shows to Stream Right Now, According to an Entertainment Editor

13. ‘ARROW’ ON NETFLIX

From Oliver Queen’s (Stephen Amell) jaw-dropping stunts to his chemistry with the fast-talking Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), Arrow will definitely appeal to loyal fans of the DC hero. But given that it also features strong, feminist characters, great story arcs and really good writing, viewers don’t necessarily have to know Oliver’s full backstory to enjoy it. The CW series revolves around Oliver’s journey from a womanizing playboy to the brooding hero of Star City. It’s a bit darker and grittier than most superhero shows, but it's filled with intense action scenes and terrifying villains, from Count Vertigo to Deadshot.

The Best Action Scenes That Take Place In A Hallway

Green Arrow (and friends) in "Brotherhood"
...
The Green Arrow and his allies (Speedy, Spartan, Atom, and the Black Canary) spent Season 4 battling the mystical Damien Darhk and his "HIVE" of mercenaries. When they discovered that Spartan's brother Andy had been brainwashed into joining HIVE, Team Arrow staged an all-out assault on HIVE's headquarters to capture and bring him home. "Brotherhood" (Season 4, Episode 7) was the first episode directed by James Bamford, the show's primary fight coordinator, and that shone through in the best way.

Though the need to cut to various set pieces keeps the scene from being a true single-take fight sequence, every piece of it is captured in long-form shots, allowing Bamford's fight choreography to truly shine as the team of heroes takes on a literal army. Green Arrow spends most of the fight in the main courtyard, alternating between ranged and close-quarters combat seamlessly, and when the Atom drops out of the sky in his powered armor and starts beating down mercenaries with metallic clangs, the show fully earns its superhero moniker.

The most impressive portion of the fight, however, is a more traditional "hallway scene" that follows Speedy (Green Arrow's sidekick) as she attempts to take down the brainwashed Andy by herself. The bulk of the fight is one incredible shot that follows the two as they fight down one hallway, into an elevator, and out onto a different floor before Speedy finally subdued him, which likely required a complete set change in the moments when the elevator doors were closed.

22. Stephen Amell and Emily Bett Rickards as Oliver and Felicity on Arrow.

sub-buzz-405-1623102570-8.jpg Suggested by: jmdooz

In the documentary episode Arrow: The Final Bow, the creators discuss how Emily was originally hired as a one-day guest star, but her chemistry with Stephen was so amazing, they kept having her come back for more episodes. Eventually, Emily was promoted to a series regular and it ultimately changed the course of the entire show.
