scrb December 24, 2018 Share December 24, 2018 Quote Ray makes a move to save both Novak's campaign and Mac's life. Let me get this straight, Max Casella’s character was named Emerson Lake? Where’s Palmer? In any case, Rays going to wear a wire against Ferrati and the crooked cops. But little does he know that they will kill with impunity, even the IA cop ELP. NYPD doesn’t have other IA cops? They don’t know about each other’s cases? Because if ELP is squeezing Mac, you’d think he’d be working with others. After all, we’re talking about corrupt, homicidal cops and the mayor of NYC. Yet Ferrati and the bad cops assume there’s just one IA guy and all they have to do is kill him — like that won’t raise all kinds of suspicion and attention — and they can buy jet skis with the kickback money, Also, I’m still not convinced the mayor would have the clout to get kickbacks from a private prison. Jails may be run bu cities or counties but prisons are run by states or the feds? Ray figured he was bailing out Mac by recording Ferrati ordering him to kill the judge — again Ferrati isn’t big on subtlety or keeping a low profile on his crimes — but Mac was one of the corrupt cops. You’d think Rays friend would have a copy of the recording too. I hope they’re going to have Alan Alda do more than advise Ray to get help and give some of his chicken salad sandwich. Getting counseling, even if Bridget can convince him, is the least of Rays problems right now. But if he found time, would Ray learning to deal with his issues make for a better show? Instead of getting loaded on top shelf booze, he’ll call Alan Alda whenever he’s in pain? Terry broke his Parkinson’s cure just for a shot at $50k. So Bunchy takes his place and advances, but probably only because Mickey stole the poor guys inhaler. I know Ray took the ransoms money back but didn’t they rob the check cashing place? 50k doesn’t seem enough money to cover the dental work Bunchy is going to need after being beat up by the junkyard dog of the trailer park. Mickey is now going to threaten Ray to get the ransome money, which is long gone. But last time he got it in his head that he deserved a large sum of money and kept coming back for it, he massacred that casino owner and got his honey killed. 6 Link to comment

Usually this show is almost a documentary, but Bunchy taking over for Terry was a little too much. They just announced that Terry wasn't medically cleared (really, illegal underground fights have state-registered doctors insuring that all fighters are well enough to fight?) and Bunchy takes over. Even though he hadn't yet fought while the other three people in the semis had already fought at least twice. And, it's amazing that for an illegal underground fight, they not only print out flyers, but actually post them where any cop can see them and raid the location. How long before Dr. Pierce (or should the name be Sydney Freedman) diagnoses Ray w/ PTSD? 4 Link to comment
Joimiaroxeu December 24, 2018 Share December 24, 2018 (edited) Hey, it's Alan Alda. Sandy's kinda nasty. Leering at her own nephew's nakedness like that. Daryll didn't seem too fazed though. Poor Terry. A wide stance. Heh. Ray's always got a wide stance, nahmtalkinbout? Ugh, Mickey's always willing to sacrifice one of his kids for his own greed and it never works out. I don't understand how FBI haven't captured him yet. Is Ray made of Unobtanium or something? Seems like every episode lately he's been getting the crap beat out of him but he's still walking and talking and driving. Those Donovans are a hardy bunch--physically anyway. Quote Let me get this straight, Max Casella’s character was named Emerson Lake? Where’s Palmer? Coming up next: two new characters named Crosby Stills and Nash Young. It was egg salad! :D I am finding it totally impossible to follow this season's plot, but one thing I do recall is that it was egg salad. Great post, SCRB... but I am totally lost regarding the names and references. Edited December 24, 2018 by DakotaLavender 3 Link to comment
mxc90 December 24, 2018 Share December 24, 2018 Smitty to Bridget (about Ray jumping from the bridge): And he lived ? Even Smitty is surprised by the writing on this show! As usual Mickey's plan fails. Couldn't the boxer take the asthma pump in the corner away from witnesses? Pump or no pump he still should beat Bunchy's ass. 1 Link to comment

The show no longer makes any sense and this cop/mayor plot is so convoluted and unrealistic (as others have described better than I could) and I just don’t know why I’m watching anymore. I should have stopped with Ray throwing himself off the building. 5 Link to comment
leighdear December 24, 2018 Share December 24, 2018 That blood-covered grimace of Bunchy's reminds me why I abhor boxing in any form. For me, it's the most brutal and least worthwhile "sport" ever devised. I didn't hate Bridget as much this episode as I usually do, but she's still a snot. When Ray was sitting across from her in the hospital, and it seemed to register with her that HE was in as much emotional pain as she was, she seemed to suck less than usual. 2 Link to comment

It is almost as though they fight to punish themselves or make the hurt of their childhoods pale by comparison. 23 hours ago, crookedjackson44 said: Can someone actually have the Parkinson's beaten back into him? Terry had a device implanted into his chest which kept his tremors at bay. When he got hit there it disabled it and his symptoms returned. It was nice to see Alan Alda. They kept cutting and showing his back to limit the amount of his tremors that we would see. Ray is like a Timex watch. He gets a licking but he keeps on ticking. scrb December 24, 2018 Author Share December 24, 2018 Ray could have gathered evidence of the kickbacks and that alone would have been enough to sink Ferrati. In fact, why wouldn't Sam use such evidence? Plant the story with a journalist. Seems like trying to get him on a wire is the most unlikely way. 1 Link to comment
BigDfromLA December 25, 2018 Share December 25, 2018 (edited) Maybe the show will go the Bobby Ewing route. This whole season was Ray's dream, from when he hit the water jumping into the East River when he thought he saw Abby. That would explain some of the convoluted events we have seen this season...the chaos. Then, return to Los Angeles for Season 7 and get back to basics. Maybe bring back some characters from earlier seasons as Ray tries to rebuild his life. If not L.A., maybe Boston. A return to New York for Season 7 would not be good. sas616 December 25, 2018 Share December 25, 2018 I was really surprised to see the show got renewed for a 7th season. This season seemed like it was moving toward the end. With everyone dead (possibly with the exception of Bridget). 2 Link to comment
Dminches December 25, 2018 Share December 25, 2018 I really miss seeing Mickey's way with women, such as Daryll's mom. He can really turn on the charm. That is better then seeing him only be a cheap, dime store crook. I still enjoy watching but the show has abandoned any sense of reality. I guess they just assume we will ignore all the absurdities, which I guess we do. 1 Link to comment
LoveLeigh December 28, 2018 Share December 28, 2018 In my opinion, this show has turned into a parody of itself, almost a cartoon. How many people has Ray killed and he still has not been arrested? Is he Tony Soprano? I am watching Escape from Dannemora and the true crimes of those two protagonists quickly landed them in prison, yet Ray Donovan rolls along for years and Ray keeps worming his way out of everything. They need to hire new writers for the next season. 3 Link to comment
ElectricBoogaloo December 28, 2018 Share December 28, 2018 Loved that Lena told Bridget about Ray's suicide attempt, especially after he tried to pass off his hospitalization as "I forgot to eat." You know this season is topsy turvy and upside down when Bridget has consistently been the smartest/most logical person (and I say this as someone who has loathed Bridget since S1). As much as I want her off the show (because her character annoys me) and away from Ray (because she was right when she said that she needs to get away from him), I rolled my eyes when she said she had to stay and Smitty tried to talk her out of it by saying that they could leave all that crap behind. Easy to say that now aka after Ray took on your huge debt, Smitty. I was with Alan Alda. Ray could use a break so staying in the psych ward for a few days might have been good for him. Farewell, Vinnie Delpino. I hope Ray's AV friend Ron kept an extra copy of that recording too. I'm glad that Daryll was smart enough not to take on that fight. As he pointed out, the last time Mickey set up a fight for him, he almost died. Besides, Mickey's plans are always shit so the fact that Mickey wanted him to do this was the red flag that said, "DON'T DO THIS." Ha, but I loved that neither Daryll nor Terry would give Ray's address to Mickey. Sandy leering at Daryll wasn't any worse than when she was hitting on Bunchy a few episodes ago. Not that I'm defending her, but she's not blood related to them and she didn't know Daryll as a kid so that's slightly less gross than when she was totally trying to hook up with Bunchy who she did know as a baby. Thank goodness both of them found ways to politely decline. When she started playing "Dream On" at the end of the episode, I was afraid she was going to get Daryll drunk so she could sleep with him. 4 Link to comment
