thewhiteowl August 24, 2018 Share August 24, 2018 08/28/18 This season brings back had blood with Christian Buckingham and Cleen Rock One coaching teams to settle the score. The battle begins for $100,000 and the title of Ink Master. Link to comment
Inkmaster0345 August 25, 2018 Share August 25, 2018 Despite the fact that I don't care for the season concept, I am super excited (as always) to have IM back. More than anything I'm hoping for more of the classic challenges (traditional, portrait, Japanese, new school, etc.) Would also like to see them bring back more tattoo based flash challenges (not really interested in who the best ice carver is). Looking forward to another fun season. Let the elimination of the cannon fodder commence! 6 Link to comment
palmaire August 25, 2018 Share August 25, 2018 Thanks for the reminder -- I didn't realize it was coming up so soon! Oy, bad blood. I'm looking forward to watching on mute and just looking at the tattoos. 3 Link to comment
azshadowwalker August 26, 2018 Share August 26, 2018 I don't think I can do this one. So tired of fucking Cleen. Getting tired of Christian, although I don't actively dislike him. Enough! 7 Link to comment
Galloway Cave August 26, 2018 Share August 26, 2018 I will record and FF to the tattooing and judging, as usual. 5 Link to comment
2727 August 29, 2018 Share August 29, 2018 (edited) Okay opener, I guess. There weren't any tattoos that particularly stood out to me, good or bad. My shallow takeaway is how cute Chis is (the American Traditional specialist). Giving the worst artist the opportunity to pick the style in the head to head was a shitty decision by the producers and ultimately rewarded the losers for doing sucky tattoos. Looked this up to remind myself which contestants were from Angels: Teej Poole (Christian), Tony Medellin and Austin Rose (Cleen). Austin of course is the big talker who nobody liked and who barely squeaked by. The portfolio examples we saw from Desi, the dark-haired woman who didn't make it, were so basic. I don't know how she even got cast in the first place. Matt Stebly, the guy who was eliminated in the head to head that a few of the contestants were pissed about -- his gallery is all color; very nice but it didn't knock me out or anything. He must have some kind of rep in the industry, though. Edited August 29, 2018 by 2727 4 Link to comment
Sile August 29, 2018 Share August 29, 2018 I was hoping so hard that the jackass with the plugs from Inkmaster Angels would get sent home from the jump, but I knew they wouldn't have manipulated his win there just for him to get the boot on the first episode. Once Nunez became the tiebreaker, I knew there was no way he was going to pick a female as the winner in a HTH. I didn't like that the judges determined the winners of the second chance tattoos, since C&C were the ones having to take them, they should have decided which of the pair they wanted on their team. Even more so, I would liked the entire teams to be chosen playground style like they did on the Peck v. Nunez season. The hansa tattoo was one of my favorites of the first round, so I guess I don't know jack about tattoos. I was glad she made it onto a team, though. I couldn't figure out why the second style picks were the same as the first (koi and girl heads) when both of them said that wasn't really their strengths, so I wonder if they didn't actually have time to ponder the decision and just went with the same thing. Not really thinking on your feet... I really like the guy from Angels that I always call Silent Bob (that tattooed the mom of the kid he had previously tattooed) and was glad he chose Cleen. 4 Link to comment

Funny how it has been 2 seasons in a row they have done teams and both times the winner of the team picking challenge has been someone quite inexperienced. 4 Link to comment

I agree. It's unnecessary and not fun. Neither of these guys is clever enough to make it interesting and it's already started to get mean-spirited. Also, it doesn't seem real. Anybody know if these guys are rivals in real life? Because it feels even more producer manipulated than usual. 4 Link to comment

It's fake just like how when Emily Elegado and Aaron Is were rivals in their season of Ink Master, they all of a sudden became cool with each other after the show and in Redemption. Ink Master is all about manufactured drama and they realize simple trash talk isn't gonna cut it any longer, hence why they showed dude shoving that one guy that looks like a lame version of Pee Wee from the The Warriors (1979) into the couch. These untalented hacks yelling and talking trash to each other makes me really miss Best Ink. 5 Link to comment
Inkmaster0345 August 30, 2018 Share August 30, 2018 Things Ink Master does that make no sense 1) starting with more contestants than will actually qualify for the show--why start with 22 and immediately cut it down to 18? What purpose did those 4 artists serve? We haven't had any time to get to know them so the showdowns don't even provide any drama. 2) ranking the artists on their tattoos and then letting them pick their teams--why not a schoolyard pick by the captains? That's what captains do. This method lends itself to more potential for unbalanced teams. 3) token annoying guy--Austin is an absolute nightmare. Austin, Cleen, and Christian arguing with the kicker of the brothers fighting each other on the couches. Yeah, looks fun 4) offering a 100k cash prize to the winning "coach" who is in no danger of being eliminated at any point during the season. Christian could show up every week, take a dump on the floor and tattoo blindfolded, and at the end he would still get a head to head battle with Cleen for the prize. Sure, they'll come up with some "advantage" for the coach who gets more team members to the finale, but that doesn't change the fact that for the coaches only one tattoo all season truly matters. Cleen is probably the single biggest Ink Master figure on social media and likely pushes ratings better than any other previous contestant. That's why they keep bringing him back again and again. This season feels less like a legitimate competition and more like one last excuse to dip into the Cleen cash cow while paying him back with an Ink Master title. I don't think Christian stands a chance. They aren't going to deny Cleen a 4th time 6 Link to comment
2727 August 30, 2018 Share August 30, 2018 (edited) I think we can all safely call it now -- the teams will miraculously even themselves out so that Cleen and Christian have at least one person in the finale. 1 hour ago, Inkmaster0345 said: 3) token annoying guy Let's not forget: Neck tattoo guy Boobs McGee gal Been tattooing for 25 years guy who still sucks Newbie underdog gal who has more confidence than skill Cocky, truculent assholes (at least two per season) A couple of guys who continually underperform but keep telling us how good they are Several artists who'll admit they've never done [whatever the challenge is]. Bonus points if they've never heard of it. Quiet, mild guy who looks like an accountant Someone who can't outline for shit Someone Nunez hates and/or supports for no good reason Misguided strategy plotters who think the skull picks mean something And of course, portrait day fuckups all around. I think it is a good way to cut contestants who don't do well in the pressure of the Ink Master format. You see some artists portfolios and their work is amazing, then they get on the show and the tattoos they produce look terrible. Some people just don't do well under stress and with the time pressure of 6 hours to tattoo. So cutting 4 people in the first episode means they can cut those who are never going to do well on the show but take up airtime. 5 Link to comment

Charlesman August 30, 2018 Share August 30, 2018 At least we got to see a lot of tattoos. I doubt the future episodes will be so art-heavy. I didn't even really need to reach for the remote to FF through the bickering. 1 Link to comment

I will be back next season, because I enjoy talking to you all and this is my favorite show. I'm just so over the bullshit. The thing is that I see a lot of people on Twitter who seem to enjoy the fake conflict. I don't know about Cleen, but I know that Christian likes to engage in trash talk on social media. I think it's just to promote the show, though. There was a lot of banter during last season. I believe that he (or both of them) was told to engage in it to get people hyped. It didn't work on me, if that was the intention. 2 Link to comment

PrincessPurrsALot September 3, 2018 Share September 3, 2018 Clean and Christian are going to be very tiring this year. There seem to be some very talented tatooists. I hope they don't get lost in the posturing of their mentors. What am I saying? With the way this is edited, I am going to have to keep the remote in hand to use both mute and fast forward. I didn't mind them saying goodbye to four inktestants from the start. Almost all seemed to have solid portfolios; doesn't mean they'll do well in this environment. There are many talented artists whose process would not allow them to succeed in Inkmaster. One of my friends would be at the end of the six hours thinking through her design and color choices. Oh well, the show owns me. I'll be there to see Dave and the tattoos. 2 Link to comment

Late to the party, but when when the coaches mentioned the lack of the “Zen approach”, I seriously expected Anthony to walk out as a surprise addition to the season. What his role would have been, I have no idea, but I freakin’ love Anthony. Maybe he could’ve worked as a mentor/advisor to the competitors on both teams? For as talented as he is, Anthony is still relatively new in the field and I would never expect Christian or Cleen to listen to Anthony’s 2 cents. I don’t blame them either - there are certain things that can only be mastered with experience. I’ve been a teacher for 10 years and I know how I’d react if someone who has only taught for a few years came in and tried to “coach me.” (Hint: it wouldn’t be pretty!) Anthony’s presence alone would save a lot of human canvases from going home with awful tattoos, like a penis with fish scales. I’m convinced the cover-up artists in the tri-state area either get paid a fortune from Ink Master to fix awful tattoos or they provide a major discount for human canvases - especially the ones from the earlier parts of the seasons.
