Exactly. I believe it was a much more selfless, loving thing for Catelynn to place Carly as Catelynn clearly did want her baby. Tyler pressured her from the get-go. I don't believe it was because he wanted better for Carly as much as it was that he did at that time (remember, there was no "Teen Mom" then) not want to be tied to Cate forever or have to give up being a kid & mama's boy to step up and raise and support a child. Placing Carly was a way to get out of that situation (and I think Kim also put the idea in his head because she knew the situation wasn't optimal and she clearly saw/sees Cate as a leech who isn't good enough for her precious boy). Tyler's decision to place Carly and the pressure he put on Cate to place her wasn't really about Carly and wanting better for her. It was all about Tyler - getting him out of his responsibility to his baby & baby mama, letting him continue his teenaged life, and getting to play Saint Tyler all at the same time. So Tyler can miss me with how selfless and giving he is for placing Carly. It was the right thing to do for Carly and Carly makes out as the winner, but Tyler needs to have a seat with his self-righteous, narcicisstic ass.

If Cate had kept Carly they'd be living on welfare in a trailer park with April and Nick. She never would have been chosen to continue on with Teen Mom and Tyler would be long gone.

I have often wondered what would have happened if she kept that baby. Would some other girl have been chosen for TM? Would Cate have been chosen because her mother and Butch brought the drama? We know that has been MTV's MO all along - girls who bring the drama. Even Chelsea had Adumb who brought all kinds of drama. Without him, she would have likely not been chosen.

Cate is April's clone. The only difference is Cate has the kind of money that April never had.

Cate has said that it was Dawn who got them on the show because of the adoption. I do wonder what would have happened had she changed her mind at the last minute. Dawn would have been pissed, and it would not have been the beautiful message they were going for. 

I'm on Kim's side on this one. Not because of ditching child support, but Catelynn was a needy manipulator, probably since they met in junior high. Her life was always more chaotic than Tyler's. But those two together are still a lazy mess all these years later. Without the Teen Mom money I can't even imagine.

Also, I don't have much frame of reference, but is it weird that they had all of their friends coming through taking pics, meeting the baby before Brandon and Teresa could meet the baby? It seems odd to me (and rude) but I don't have kids let alone adopted ones so I really don't know the norm.

Also keep in mind that Theresa did what Bethany wanted (act like open adoption is "open") in exchange for a quick second white infant.  She could have avoided years of intrusion if she didn't agree.

I really wonder if MTV offered him a six-figure payday for a spin-off where he's a single dad "working on himself" if then he'd leave Cate. I think either TM has to end or he'd have to have a guaranteed MTV pay check & show that focused on him as the star for him to ever detach from that gravy train. Poor Nova.

Agreed. I also think he likes the the idea of being a father better than actually being one. If he wasn't getting the MTV money I don't think he'd have much to do with either Cate or Nova.
