I just had a horrible thought.  Is it possible that they are having Bamford direct all episodes of the crossover??  The timing would fit for him to be in the preproduction stage.  Someone please tell me I'm crazy.

On the one hand, I'm all, you take that back! On the other, I expect a clusterfuck any way this goes, so maybe it wouldn't be bad to have Bamford take and I can write the whole thing off completely.

Hey, he IS reviving Arrow or whatever, apparently.

If I have the timing for this correct, if he's directing Legends of Tomorrow right now, then he won't be able to direct any of the crossover episodes - the crossover episodes should be moving into pre-production as I type, so he wouldn't have time to do any of that (which presuming that none of the crossover episodes are bottle shows, includes pretty important things like reviewing location sites and lighting). Once the crossover episodes start shooting, he'll be supervising initial post production/editing on this LoT episode. I don't think he'll have the time to direct any of the crossover episodes.  He'll be involved, certainly, but directing, probably not.

So EW is celebrating the 10th anniversary of CW. I really loved how Natalie described the difference between Flash and Arrow. Didnt know the point of celebrating is to put one show down to celebrate another.

Flagship series Arrow kicked off The CW's new superhero craze by staying grounded. But a year later, Arrow ushered in the introduction of Barry Allen and the world of metahumans, providing the audience with a chance to ease into the idea of parallel universes and time travel. While Oliver Queen was your typical brooding hero, Barry Allen brought a comedic touch that made life-or-death stakes actually fun. Add that to finding the perfect balance of comic book mythos for the die hards without alienating non-comic book fans, and The Flash had a perfect formula for success. —Natalie Abrams

Of course Natalie wrote this. She's still bitter about Laurel's death. Why should any show care about alienating 70-90k people??? That's nothing in the grand scheme of things

I think I'm always going to think of VM as a UPN show. Those first two seasons were perfect. Quality dropped a bit on The CW.

Didn't she mean that they managed to appease comic book fans without alienating the rest? Or did I get that wrong?

That was how I read it. My first impression was she slipped in a dig at Arrow tho.

Yeah, but she was talking about The Flash, which in turn was a blatant dig at Arrow because Arrow killed off a comic canon character meaning they alienated the comic book fans. OH NOES!

Editing to add: Now we know why SA doesn't like EW. Thought it was odd he didn't care about being on the EW magazine cover.

I'm a "die hard"comic book fan and all I want from live action adaptations is to disrupt the whole fuck outta "canon", turn it upside down, and give me something ELSE that is not comic book play-by-play with human flashflesh. I guess I actively WANT to be alienated then? Or maybe I understand how different mediums provide me with different kinds of emotional fulfillment/different catharsis while consuming them? Sorry, Natalie.

Interview with Flash producers, the Helbings; parts related to the other DC shows and crossovers:

Quote

You’re doing your own version of Flashpoint but was there ever a time you were trying to get Thomas Wayne introduced into it? He’s kind of key to the comic book version.

Todd Helbing: “I think there’s a long list of people and characters that we would love to do and maybe did, maybe didn’t do. But there’s the realities of what we can and can’t use. We work very closely obviously with DC and Geoff Johns and Dan Evans and it’s kind of like, ‘Okay, so what can we use in this version?’ Then they tell us and that’s what we do.”

Knowing that Flashpoint affects the other shows of the DC universe, how do you approach that?

Aaron Helbing: “We’re lucky because we work with Greg Berlanti who oversees everything. It’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen is someone who can know exactly what’s happening on every show at the exact same time, so he knows exactly how to balance them and what’s going to affect which particular show. We’re just really lucky because we get to work with Greg really closely and Marc [Guggenheim] and Phil [Klemmer] and Andrew [Kreisberg] and Ali [Adler], and be mindful of what’s going to happen in each show and what’s going to affect them.”

Do you think that’s the key to the success of the DC shows?

Todd Helbing: “Yes, along from working closely with DC and then having really one person filtering that version down. You know, it’s like where we work there’s two floors. It’s like Arrow, Supergirl, Legends, and Flash, so we literally are like from here to the doorway away from talking to Marc Guggenheim and Wendy Mericle. Whenever we have questions, we can all get on the same page very easily. If it was four showrunners that never interacted, you wouldn’t be able to do it.”

LOL. Natalie Abrams changed the EW article:

Like the flagship, The Flash found the perfect balance of comic book mythos for the die hards without alienating non-comic book fans, creating a perfect formula for success.

Messy!

I was going to say the same thing.   I don't give the cw any credit for Veronica Mars.  All the Cw did was come into existence and benefit from it.

I'm really starting to think someone is spying on this board. Did EW get a lot of complaints for Abrams to tweak her Flash blurb?

There were a few shady tweets about it on twitter.

The replies under EW's tweet about the article is 95% people complaining that Arrow got left out, and people mocking Arrow for getting left out. Not sure if that influenced them to change the blurb, but Flash and the other shows sure weren't getting as much attention as Arrow was.

If I was naming the most important CW shows I'd probably say Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries and The Flash. They were all the CW's flagship show at one time, even if Gossip Girl was never a huge ratings hit. Arrow to a lesser extent for kicking off this whole DC thing they have going on and potentially Jane the Virgin for getting the CW some awards buzz and critical acclaim.

Looks like Bamford isn't especially involved in the crossovers.

But man, is this going to be a nightmare. Supergirl is only filming episode 5, Arrow should be shooting their portion of the crossover around the season premiere airing, and I have no idea where The Flash and LoT are in their shooting schedules. Luckily, whatever they need for Supergirl's portion will probably be easily filmed at a later date.

Roulette would have been such a good pick for an Arrow villain.   It's s shame that Supergirl got her.

Now that Supergirl is on the CW, it's possible for Roulette to show up on Arrow too. I think Clock King jumped from Arrow to Flash.

That's cartoon Hawkgirl.

Although of the four LoT Pop's, they made ATOM, Firestorm, White Canary and Hawkman. I don't really understand that choice since Hawkgirl was an actual regular on the show while Hawkman was a guest star.

3. Arrow  and The Flash
.  .  .
Arrow leading into The Flash helped usher in the extreme success of The CW in recent years. Starting with Arrow in 2012 and then leading into The Flash and other DC TV shows, The CW has solidified its rank amongst great TV networks. With Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin leading the charge, these two shows have accomplished so much and continue to help grow The CW. With Arrow approaching its 100th episode and a major four part crossover slated, it’s no wonder The CW is the network for superhero TV and it’s all thanks to Arrow and The Flash.

10. Smallville
9.  Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
8.  Veronica Mars
7.  Gossip Girl
6.  Vampire Diaries
5.  Jane the Virgin
4.  Gilmore Girls
3.  Arrow and The Flash
2.  One Tree Hill
1.  Supernatural

This is not the EW list, though. It's Emertainment Monthly's.

How does Alex feel about Clark coming to town on Supergirl? — Sam
Not great. “Alex has been everything to Kara; she’s her family,” EP Andrew Kreisberg says. “Alex has a little bit of a chip on her shoulder about Clark. She loves him and he’s family, but he left Kara on their doorstep. Kara is so excited to see Clark and so excited to be with him, it’s almost a little bit like Alex feels taken for granted, because she’s the family member who’s put in the time. It sets up an interesting conflict between her and Kara in the first couple of episodes.”

Is Ghost Rider a good guy or a villain on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? — Katherine
Depends on who you ask. From S.H.I.E.L.D.’s perspective, “He’s a different kind of threat than anything we’ve faced before,” Clark Gregg says. “It introduces a part of the Marvel world that deals more with strange elements of the Marvel Universe and he’s definitely the villain from hell.”
*  *  *
Any news about Sara in the first episodes of Legends of Tomorrow? Benjilau
Sara will have a mixed reaction to meeting the Justice Society of America. “Sara’s never a fan of people who are too perfect and follow all the rules,” Caity Lotz says. “But Sara also has that military side to her, with organization and executing missions. They’re pretty good at that, so there’s a little bit of her that’s like, ‘These people have got their sh– together.’ But it’s also probably a little annoying, because they got their sh– together and they know it.”
*  *  *
Could this be the year Bruce becomes Batman on Gotham? — James
I wouldn’t expect Bruce to suit up in season 3, but he’ll definitely start acquiring some necessary skills for becoming the Caped Crusader. “Our actor [is] turning 16, so he’s getting close,” executive producer Ken Woodruff says. “We’re not quite getting to the point of Batman, but we’re really focusing on trying to get to see different sides of Bruce Wayne and to lay the foundation for all those Batman things. He’s going to be much more active. Near the end of last season, he spent time on the streets with Selina Kyle. We didn’t show a lot of that, but this year we’re going to show what the gains from that experience were — learning how to pick locks, break into things, be silent like a bat. We definitely wanted to show that progression for Bruce.”

This seems to say the opposite of what that earlier thing said about Kara seeing Clark like her dorky brother that she knew so well that she was confused why others were in awe.  I'm pleased since this fits more in line with her just now really developing that close relationship beyond unconditional love.  Or at least it gives me hope that what they will show for their relationship fits with how it seemed in the first season.

I was going to say. :) That's not LoT's Hawkgirl, it's Justice League's. (I loved Shayera.)

Yeah, I didn't get why they did a LoT Hawkman either - that made no sense at all.

All 5 Broadcast Network Presidents Share Their Fall TV Playbooks
By Jason Lynch  September 18, 2016
http://www.adweek.com/news/television/all-5-broadcast-network-presidents-share-their-fall-tv-playbooks-173475

Quote

Adweek: What's your most improved time slot this fall?
.  .  .
Mark Pedowitz, president, The CW:
Mondays at 8 [with Supergirl, which The CW picked up from CBS]. A quality show, which has an audience base that fits into who we are. Monday at 8 helps set up the whole week and helps Jane [the Virgin, at 9].

This season, what's your biggest challenge?
.  .  .
Pedowitz, The CW:
Getting people to watch Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

What keeps you up the most at night?
.  .  .
Pedowitz, The CW:
For me, it's what happens in the spectrum auction and how it impacts The CW and everything else. At this moment, we don't have any idea of the implications of it all.

How are you trying to attract millennials?
.  .  .
Pedowitz, The CW:
We're the youngest-skewed broadcast network, with a median age of 43. But we're also a bifurcated network, because our digital median age is 23. So we recognize that we are rooted in broadcasting, but we're a true hybrid. We're digital leaders in this world, and we accept that.

Finish this sentence: Advertisers will love this season because …
.  .  .
Pedowitz, The CW:
It is our strongest schedule ever.
