tv echo April 8, 2022 Share April 8, 2022 (edited) ‘Walking Dead’ Creator Robert Kirkman’s Profits Battle With AMC Gutted By Judge, Again By Dominic Patten April 6, 2022https://deadline.com/2022/04/walking-dead-robert-kirkmans-profits-lawsuit-ruling-amc-1234996002/ Quote In a final ruling Wednesday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Daniel Buckley gutted most of the fight pitting Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert and fellow TWD EPs Charles Eglee and Glen Mazzara against former home of Mad Men. “Based upon the facts and evidence before the Court, the Court finds no triable issues of material fact as to Plaintiffs’ first cause of action for breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing,” Buckley wrote in a partial summery judgment ruling today on the plaintiffs’ third amended complaint (read it here). “Accordingly, summary adjudication is GRANTED as to the first cause of action.” * * * Leaving some audit claims of the case first filed back in August 2017 intact, Buckley effectively has determined that AMC did not, as the EPs and former TWD showrunner Frank Darabont before them had asserted, rig their deals back in the show’s early days to ensure they were denied the vast profits the one-time blockbuster generated. “The Court agrees with Defendants that none of these categories of evidence are sufficient to raise a triable issue of fact that Defendants deprived Plaintiffs of the benefit of their bargain or acted arbitrarily, irrationally, or malevolently such that a reasonable jury could find their conduct breached of implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing,” Buckley wrote in his final ruling, which mirrors a non-ironic tentative ruling of April 1. ‘Walking Dead’ producers dealt new blow in fight for profits from the hit zombie show BY ANOUSHA SAKOUI APRIL 6, 2022https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2022-04-06/walking-dead-profits-lawsuit-kirkman-amc Quote A Los Angeles judge has dealt another blow to producers of “The Walking Dead” who have been fighting for years for a greater slice of the hit zombie show’s profits from its distributor AMC Networks. L.A. County Superior Court Judge Daniel Buckley, who has presided over the case for the last five years, on Wednesday dismissed most of the claims by the producers that AMC had cheated them out of hundreds of millions in profits from the series and its spinoffs. The decision is the latest in years of fighting over the fortune generated by the series based on Robert Kirkman’s comics. Kirkman is among the group of producers suing AMC over profits from the hit series. Edited April 8, 2022 by tv echo Link to comment
OoohMaggie April 15, 2022 Share April 15, 2022 The Walking Dead Museum Exhibit Commemorates Final Season A major exhibition devoted to The Walking Dead is coming to life in Astoria, Queens. AMC Networks and Museum of the Moving Image have announced a partnership presenting Living with The Walking Dead, a major exhibition devoted to the groundbreaking AMC zombie drama returning for its final eight episodes this fall. The exhibition, which will be on view from June 25 through January 1, 2023, explores key aspects of The Walking Dead's origins, production, and impact with multiple screening series and other public events, according to a press release. "It's wonderful to be once again partnering with AMC Networks, this time to present an exhibition devoted to the long-running original series The Walking Dead," said Carl Goodman, MoMI Executive Director. "More than just a television show, it is a cultural phenomenon that is adored by legions of fans, who celebrate the innovative, engaging, and immersive world that its makers have built, and for its diverse cast of characters. The exhibition will bleed outward from our temporary exhibitions gallery and into our theaters, classrooms, and other public spaces." Said Dan McDermott, President of Entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, "Over 11 seasons and 177 episodes, The Walking Dead has built a vibrant and massive global fan following, becoming one of the most beloved franchises in television. We're delighted to work with MoMI on an exhibition and lineup of events to commemorate this beloved series' historic run, the immensely talented creative team, cast, and crew who brought it to life, and give this incredible fanbase a new and exciting way to experience their favorite show." Living with The Walking Dead will probe the issues at the heart of the series: the related threats of the murderous undead and the collapse of the social order. It will explore the cinematic and literary antecedents of The Walking Dead, including its origin in Robert Kirkman's comic book series, and present the unique innovations that the AMC Networks series has contributed, with its wide-ranging story of survival, diverse cast of characters, and devoted legion of fans. The exhibition will include original costumes and props, concept art, storyboards, scripts, and a wealth of prosthetic makeup material. Created by Special Effects Makeup Supervisor and Executive Producer Greg Nicotero and his team at the award-winning KNB EFX studios, the special effects makeup transformed legions of cast members into vividly realized undead walkers, largely using practical effects. https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/living-with-the-walking-dead-final-season-museum-exhibition-amc/ Link to comment
