I can't link but Buzzfeed has a great post with Chad C (Tyreese) and Michael C (Orange-hair dude) playing a game called "Dead or Alive."

Like Roman Emperors they decide which celebrities would live through a Zombie Apocalypse.

Chad has a man crush on George Clooney - very cute post.  I am falling for Chad big time.

The Walking Dead Season 5 Has Dramatically Improved by Fixing Its ‘Woman Problem’

By Paul on Oct 21, 2014

http://www.tvovermind.com/the-walking-dead/walking-dead-dramatically-improved-fixing-woman-problem-242857

GREAT article!!! It hits squarely on a particular pet peeve of mine - something I commonly refer to as the Kate Syndrome - so named in "honor" of one of its earliest (and arguably most egregious) demonstrations, Kate from "Lost".

Now, I'm not going to get started on Kate*, but she was the progenitor of a simply horrible trope - that of a woman who:

1. Has absolutely LOUSY decision-making skills. I mean, truly terrible. I can't express the bad badness of the bad. "Sucks scissors" is in the neighborhood. Your best best for survival is to listen intently to whatever she wants to do, then do the exact opposite. I mean, shit.

2. Cannot be talked out of a bad decision by ANYBODY, once her mind is made up.

3. Bull-headedly acts on it in such a manner, the adverse consequences are inflicted upon everybody around her - sometimes to the point of death. But rarely (if ever) hers. Unfortunately.

4. Lather, rinse, repeat. And again. And again.

The word gets tossed around a lot, but I do see this as a truly misogynistic character portrayal of a woman - but one which writers seem apparently compelled to inflict upon us, time and time again. Besides Kate, reference Rachel from "Revolution"**, Lori***, and Andrea.

I am SOOOOO glad one of my favorite shows has managed to divest itself of the debilitating effects of the Kate Syndrome - and I hope and pray some resistance has been developed for prevent future re-infections.

* Trust me, you don't want me to. That particular rant can run a half-hour or more.

** Portrayed, incidentally, by the same actress who played Juliette on "Lost". Personally, I suspect Kate infected her on-set.

*** Reference earlier comments on the Lori Factor - a mutated strain of the Kate Syndrome.

TWD documentary being filmed.

The show has gone through a number of iterations of this, beginning with Carol in season one. She was grating, she was constantly rubbing everyone the wrong way and defending her abusive husband at every turn (before his death).

I can't say I remember most of this happening.

While I agree that the show has had a tendency to have women who make poor decisions, I thought that the articles example of season 1 Carol was poor.  She did defend her abusive husband.  But I thought that bit of it was fairly realistic.  I barely remember the scenes so I can't say every moment of it was realistic, but the idea that every woman (or man for that case) has to be a zombie killing, decision making master with a killer shot is something that I dislike.

The theory that Rick is in a coma went big this week?  Seriously?  That's been floating around since the pilot, which intentionally or not makes this a prime theory of what's going on.

I barely remember her having that much interaction with people in season 1. She laughed with Andrea and Jacqui and Amy about missing simple comforts (like her vibrator). Ed put himself in and tried to take her away. The other women got involved. Ed hit her. Shane beat him bloody, and Carol tried to stop him. After that she mostly stayed away from Ed and kept Sophia away from him. He was then chomped, and Carol mostly just had a few isolated moments (pulverizing his corpse, having the grenade).

She got into some conflicts in season 2, but I don't remember her having any in season 1.

Anyway, speaking of Carol - another Melissa interview (possible spoilers).

From the "Four Walls and a Roof" episode thread:

I love the lede:

On Sunday night we peeled back the layers to see Gareth at his most terrifying: a men’s rights activist in the making.

Edited to add that Entertainment Weekly has a different diagnosis:

In the last few days, Gareth has seen his entire life explode and implode, his home destroyed, his friends and family most gone.

Yet he can maintain a healthy sense of humor. It's there when he tells Bob about his brother and, almost as an aside, clarifies that his brother is "also currently dead." And it's there when he reveals that he isn't just a cannibal; he's a cannibal foodie.

There's an article about the evolution of Rick's character in The Daily Beast. It's a bit of a long read.

(Disclaimer, I wrote it, so I hope it's not too self-promotional of me to post it here. Prior to season 4, I never really liked Rick. It was interesting for me to take a step back and look at his character objectively.)

Good grief, that crowd is so giggly. And a couple of those audience questioners, particularly Sebastian, sounded too young to be watching the show.

I hadn't even heard these silly rumors, but apparently they went far enough to where Norman Reedus denied them. The claim was that Norman "begged" TWD not to make Daryl gay.

ParadoxLost said in the locked thread:

I'm assuming this is an Easter Egg by the show. But Slabtown was a red light district in Atlanta that is now Grady Hospital. I'm trying to decide if the window scene looks like the area around Grady.

A comment in the Entertainment Weekly recap explains further:

Slabtown was a red light district in Atlanta in the 1840s. The actions of the officers in the hospital are similar to a brothel. Dawn is the mother, the hospital is the 'house' and the patients are the 'girls' who (having been 'saved' from living on the streets) have to work off their debt in order to be free.

'Walking Dead' ratings once again beat 'Sunday Night Football'

Once again, zombies have tackled the NFL. AMC’s The Walking Dead has managed to beat NBC’s top-rated Sunday Night Football in the key adult demo.
Sunday night’s fourth episode of the season delivered 14.5 million viewers and an incredible 7.6 rating among adults 18-49. By comparison, SNF had about 17 million viewers and a 6.1 in the demo (these live ratings will change in the more accurate nationals, but the demo number is unlikely surpass TWD). AMC’s Talking Dead post-show did well too, with about 6 million viewers. We previously devoted an entire post to putting The Walking Dead‘s enormous ratings into context.

I don't even see how a comment like that applies. Beth's a Walking Dead character, in Walking Dead set, in a Walking Dead location. There's been stand alone epiosdes on many characters over the years so a comment like "if this was on Syfy we would have changed the channel" could apply to any of those other stand alones with other characters too.

Nathan Fillion is on Jimmy Kimmel right now and he's talking about his love of The Walking Dead.  He has viewing parties with his friends and they discuss how they'd handle the different situations that they see on the show.  (He said that if he were to turn cannibal, Guillermo looks like he'd be delicious.)  I think it'd be great to see him make a guest appearance on the show!

Great ratings for TWD, higher than last week. Given all the bitching about the episode focusing on Beth, I am surprised. This is a good reminder that the online boards do not necessarily represent the opinions of the overall audience.

From AMC:

Episode 5: Self Help

A new set of issues confront our group while on a mission. Will they be able to push through and survive these challenges? Or better yet, each other?

There's a one-minute sneak peek (preceded by a Slim Jims commercial).

I love those "Making of" vids. Fascinating to see how it's all done. The stunt people really do earn their pay.

It was gratifying to read the following article and see I'm not the only one who thought the whole Terminus story was concluded in a rushed and abrupt way, after the very long buildup:

I can't get past their claiming the Governor episodes last season were compelling. To me that stopped the show dead.

I think this season has had some flaws, but I'm thrilled they didn't drag the Terminus story out. The story worked as well as it did because of how quickly they powered through, instead of having lengthy conversations and philosophical debates.

I also don't see all these new characters. Other than the Beth episode, most of what we've seen has involved established faces.

OMG, how did BB Frankie end up on a Walking Dead forum?  My distaste of him is so pronounced that I couldn't even watch the clip.  At least he probably couldn't figure out a way to reference his sister during the short amount of screen time he got.

Watched the other clips, and I wonder if the actors are making up their character motivations as they read the scripts, or if their motivations are told to them by the writers or directors.

Always like seeing how they pull off the special effects.
