I'm reacting to the statements based on the first episode, I'm seeing that like Joe he gets on with everyone, which is no mean feat. As for the other two he mentioned? Rob, I wish, as he does, but remains to be seen. Russell, also remains to be seen what he meant by that!?

Ben : He's another young kid, another cut kid. They're all cut, like chiseled out of stone and shit.

I haven't really been feeling Ben but these two things have me rethinking that.

So...

  • J.P. wants to manufacture artificial drama with Ben back at camp to cover up some degree of exclusive covert alliance he believes they have; and
  • Ben thinks J.P. is an idiot.

Ben may have just became my favorite Survivor player in the whole wide world.

Something amusing to share.  In the previews for episode 4, there was a brief moment of the tribes standing at a challenge post-shuffle.  This tiny glimpse actually spoiled Ben and Lauren would end up on the same tribe, but the promo monkeys tried to hide this with "clever" cropping of the shot so that Ben's head was cut off on a shot of Lauren.   The placement of the shot coupled with the fact Ben was not wearing a shirt at the time had the side-effect of placing the CBS logo bug on Ben in a funny spot.

Ben had a good laugh about this on Twitter with the following NSFW-ish post.

What's a tramp stamp?

More specifically, a tattoo centered directly above the crack of your ass; usually more associated with drunk college girls making bad decisions on spring break than with Marines - but there ya go.  :D

He has the John Deere logo tattooed on his body. I can't stop laughing!

Judging from the way it’s framed (“J. Driebergen” on one side and “1925-2009” on the other), I’m guessing it’s a tribute to a family relative - grandfather, maybe - and if his family is anything like mine, the JD reference is an inside family joke.  Maybe Grandpa was a keith urban fan.  :)

It looks a little like the John Deere logo, but the top half of the deer is missing and also in Ben's tweet that @piequinn35 linked to, the green square is part of an anchor, so I don't think that's the Deere logo. I saw where someone tweeted that it was, but it wasn't Ben and he still won't show a full photo of it. He's been teasing it apparently, so expect a full reveal on the Reunion show as well as a ten-minute discussion on who the dead relative is as well as how he and his family don't think about how they're all heroes even though [humble brag humble brag humble brag]. They'll talk about that instead of how Lauren broke the alliance in half and was a challenge monster.

If it's a logo he has to hide on the broadcast he can't really show it on the reunion show, either, though, right?

In that tweet, the photo he has on it is someone squatting over a campfire?  Is that a clue?

Wow, almost no posts for the winner.  Surprised.  I posted this short clip from TMZ in the media thread to.  Is that agains te rules?

Guessing that Ben took the check and went right home to his wife and kids and never looked back.   I believe him when he said he looked at the experience like a job.  Plus, he is not terribly sociable as he stated himself.  Not much to talk about where Ben is concerned.

I'm not saying this is the case with every cast, but it seems like the older contestants are more likely to go out for the sake of the show and wanting the experience of what that offers (as evidenced by Chrissy, whose been applying for years and years), over someone like Desi that was contacted on Facebook.  Not saying Desi didn't want to be on the show or last longer than she did, but there's definitely something different between the older fans and the younger fans (or recruits, if that's the case).  The younger contestants always seem to gel, probably because most of them are unemployed, single, and typically are from the same city/state, so they have more opportunities to hang out.  With the dawn of SM, it became obvious more and more each season about the closeness of some casts, and who hung out with who on a regular basis.  It makes me wonder if casts from the earlier season have any sort of close relationships with each other or not.  Back then it seemed easier to lose track of each other.

Right but I meant forum discussion.  Apparently he was so not controversial or hated or loved that very few people have anything to discuss about him in his forum?  I thought maybe people lashing out about his PTSD at tribal, IDK.  I rooted for him and am glad Chrissy didn't win but....not much emotion for me at the end this year.

There is also a good amount of contestant discussion in the episode threads. Ben's PTSD was discussed in the episode with the fire popping, his Marine Corp service in the episode with Joe and the Marine Corp comment, that type of thing. His game play and the like was dissected there. The contestant threads tend to be pretty quiet during most seasons.
