Primetimer October 7, 2016 Share October 7, 2016 Max takes a break from being a typical teen jerk to admit some vulnerability. The results are lovely. View the full article Link to comment

maraleia October 7, 2016 Share October 7, 2016 I love how Sam and her friends were casually discussing the abortions they've had in front of Max. This show is a feminist dream and I'm gushing about this so damn much. 4 Link to comment
pasdetrois October 7, 2016 Share October 7, 2016 Loved this episode. Loved the sweet moments between a mother and her daughters. The older teen actress handled her little monologue very well. A nice change from the previous shrieking we saw. 2 Link to comment

Phishbulb October 7, 2016 Share October 7, 2016 Yes, the oldest daughter seemed to have a realization in this episode that she was screwing up her life so it was a nice redemption moment for her after being pretty unlikable thus far. Link to comment
scrb October 7, 2016 Share October 7, 2016 Yeah but her voice is really off-putting. In the previous episode, she was throwing them out of the minivan and the way she says "Mommmmm!" has to be exhausting. Link to comment
possibilities October 7, 2016 Share October 7, 2016 I liked Sam's baggy jeans. The other stuff, too, but I feel the need to appreciate clothing that looks comfortable and is not skin tight. Link to comment

Pepper Mostly October 17, 2016 Share October 17, 2016 I love this show and I loved this episode so much. Sam's sweet moment with Frankie when she was sick was just lovely and her and Max's scene at the store was everything. It was just so nice to see and be reminded of those great moments with our kids. (Full disclosure, I have one son, no daughters, and we always got on, even during his teen years. But I did love those moments of feeling needed, and appreciated!) Link to comment

I personally am still trying to come to terms with an abortion I had 21 years ago and, to me, to casually let a teenager think it's hilarious and a day in the park is beyond irresponsible. We don't all find it so easy to deal with and that should be a consideration for any young woman finding herself having to make that decision. 1 Link to comment

At first I was taken aback that they were having the discussion in front of the girls but it's true that hiding these things implies they're shameful and I think for most of us they're just not. Which is not to say they're desirable occurrences, either. I actually watched this ep then watched it a second time with my teen daughter right after. Coincidentally, she came in from consoling a friend with pretty much Max's same issue (achievement woes) so I wanted her to see it. I too was lukewarm on the show after two eps but fell in love somewhere in eps. 3-5. Link to comment
ElectricBoogaloo October 22, 2018 Share October 22, 2018 As soon as that obnoxious dude bro started going on and on about IPAs, I was like ugh, please STFU. Same with Frances and her "will you pray for Thera's mom?" I loved that Sam pointed out Thera's mom isn't even religious. Frances seems to be one of those busybodies who just loves having all the gossip and inserting herself into the drama. Max blurting out that she didn't know what to do with her life was one of the moments when kids can surprise you with their blunt honesty and self-awareness. I loved that Sam took her to the mall the next day to show her that it's easy to look like you have your shit together (and I really loved the other adults telling Max that we ALL feel that way). I also really liked that Sam told Max it's okay to just get a regular job and get by too. Not everyone wants to become an astronaut or a doctor and that's okay. 1 Link to comment
