Apparently Ryan Guzman is still cleaning Teagarden's hotel room, because that SHOULD have been his job, but then we wouldn't have had the cliche of a young black man "menacing" a lone white woman into fear and/or guilt. Everything about the episode was so tired and easily figured out in the beginning of the show, if only by the casting of the guests that it was just tedious.

 My only question is whether NotNancyGrace will be a regular foil for our gals or whether she'll quit over the Emily death in disGrace.

I liked how they didn't go the cliche route by the "thug boyfriend" being involved with the disappearance, but wish that annoying anchor lady retracted calling that poor boy a thug when there was no reason to call him one in the first place. Him hugging his girlfriend great to see, since he's the one who fought so hard to find her. I wonder where her mother was.

Too bad the other girl died- wasn't expecting that. And next week we find out the killer? It's good they didn't drag it out especially since this season just got cut to 10 episodes.

I don't even remember who Levi and Ryan are. I guess one must be the assistant and the other the DA? Those two do look kind of alike.

I'm just not a fan of the actor who portrays Jake.  I don't remember exactly who Levi and Ryan are either, but no one else in the cast looks like Jake.  The DA certainly doesn't look like him.  And if Ryan is the assistant, he doesn't look like either of them.  I like the DA.   And I like Piper Perabo.   All of the women on the show are good.

I still enjoy watching the Julia-Jake interaction. They are clearly close friends who trust each other and who support each other without being jealous. I wasn't surprised that Julia had nothing in her fridge. She is probably always at the station.

Yeah its a shame the ratings are so mediocre (although I wonder if it might do better on another night) because the chemistry between these two is perfect and they are so much fun to watch. They are great solid friends but there could be something more there if they are ever in the same place at the same time. Right now Jake is too wrapped up in Sarah but maybe down the line who knows. I just hope we get to find out.

Yeah I like the friendship between Jake and Julia (like their patio take-out scene), but I don't get any romantic vibes from them at all. I'm still hoping she ends up with Max. 

Wouldn't a house the size of Julia's have more than one bedroom, hence a guest bedroom?

ETA: What happened to Ryan? He went from a major character to barely having a speaking role.

I admit to not paying attention too deeply when this show is on, but have they ever said how Jake and Julia became such good friends?  I enjoy their friendship and that they are just friends.  I hate that TV keeps telling us that males and females can't be friends, so I hope they keep it platonic.

The Bling Ring.  Awesome.  I actually love the story of the Bling Ring so when I figured out a beat before the show outright said it I giggled .  Fir those who don't know in real life a bunch of vapid teens robbed the hones of a bunch of vapid celebrities for no other reason then they were bored.  Of course Notorious was going to do their own version of it with a murder and sex scsndle added in for some spice.

I took it to mean that Dana is the one that actually killed Johnny. I thought it odd that Dana would incriminate Maya by telling Jake and Julia about the burn book entry re: wanting to kill Johnny, so I inferred from the closing scene that she'd been framing Maya all along.

On the other hand, I was surprised that Doug Savant (Melrose Place, Desperate Housewives, last week's Pure Genius) had such a tiny role so maybe there's still more story to tell next week?

I enjoyed seeing Melinda Kanakaredes again on TV. I didn't watch CSI NY, but I remember her from Providence.

Ryan's back (barely) to hand Julia her phone and be the topic of conversation between Ella and the paralegal. Poor guy. When the series started he was having fun sneaking around investigating, making out with Ella...and now this. I really don't get the story arc of his character. 

Louise gave me chills with the look she gave Julia when she forced the video to be shown. I didn't like that storyline. Julia should never have used a video as a bargaining tool that other people knew about (she couldn't have full control over it) but Louise was slimy. It's not "burying a story" to not air footage that no one else knows you have. And also, Louise is such a hypocrite - she's had no problem not showing footage that SHE didn't want to have shown (soldier being executed). Her character gives me the creeps. 

I know this is nitpicky, but the young woman who played Dana's daughter just took me out of the story. She was a good actress, but anyone who grows up in a wealthy family, with a news anchor mom, is going to have perfect teeth. There's no way around it - she just will. I'm not sure why they couldn't have found someone who looked a teeny tiny bit like Melina Kanakaredes. 

Also, why was is such a secret that Maya and Johnny (such a silly name - boys like that are named Evan) were dating? As if it needed to be kept secret? She was 22. I don't understand.

Yeah, Ryan doesn't have much to do, he seems phased out.

Yeah thing about the whole "bling ring" angle is it widens up the suspect pool quite a bit. It wouldn't be impossible for the kids to have stumbled on to some secret while they were looting peoples homes. Something someone thought was worth killing for. Ray J said he didn't report it to the police because he didn't want attention maybe he was hiding something and the kids found out.

Jake furiously works different angles of the murder case against Maya Hartman, daughter of disgraced news anchor Dana Hartman. He thinks Dana could help by pleading her daughter's case on LHL, even though Louise hijacked a previous interview by showing a sex tape of Dana with Maya's boyfriend. Max is against Louise and Julia's dangerous and clandestine trip to Mexico to get the LHL exclusive with drug kingpin Carlos Mora aka "El Toro".

I'm betting that the gun in the safe deposit box has someone else's fingerprints on it, and Dana pulled a fast one to get it into evidence.  She can always recant the confession.

Poor Louise and Julia.  Now they have to rebuild their cell phone contact lists by hand.

So next episode El Cha...er...Toro will propose to Louise? Because there is no way those two are in any real danger, Nice to see Ryan back! I loved how Ella explained that her mother stole credit cards pretty much without there being any question what she meant and he still had to ask her to be more explicit. Pretty, but not too bright. Speaking of not too bright, Maya and Dana! If anyone grew up on Knots Landing, there was an especially fun arc where Abby and her daughter both confess to a murder neither did in order to protect the other, because each assumed the other capable. Fun times. I think it's the female roommate in a fit of jealousy, either over Maya or the Preston. Or else an elaborate scheme by Louise to get back at Dana. Which would be awesome.

When the attackers entered Julia's room in Mexico, she sat up pretty quickly, as if she was waiting for them or perhaps she wasn't able to sleep.

As they are kissing, Ella tells Ryan that they have to act appropriately in a law office. The old show LA Law came to mind where there was a lot more going on! Of course LA Law would be way before Ella and Ryan's time!

Also I'm wondering about the dad.  He's always there in the background (for no really good reason, it seems to me).  I thought a couple of times that maybe he accidentally killed his son during an argument to get the kid to leave LA and go back home.  OK, probably a stretch, too much Perry Mason.  I hope they get to wrap up both plots they have going.

Agreed, even the mystery itself didn't leave many suspects and I know Julia and Louise would be ok.

Agree, y33kaitykaity! I thought Julia asking the bartender to put on LHL in Spanish was a nod to Annie Walker's facility with languages...or maybe not. But I do wish that Julia could use some of her Annie Walker hand-to-hand combat skills or something. I did think that maybe the thing that will annoy Julia and Louise the most is not being pulled out of bed in the middle of the night, but not getting to change into cute outfits first!

Overall, a decent episode, and Jake asking Julia out for drinks was the first hint of romance we've seen between those two characters in awhile. But I like her with Max!
