How many days are they going to blatantly shill the latest book by Friend of Show Richard Haas? I like him but this kind of clubbiness is one of the things that has driven me to other viewing choices in the early morning.

My main question about Richard's book is, I wonder if any women have read it

image.thumb.png.f6bd5af1d659af301a8918f065f3bb4c.png

i mean a really, really great way to improve discourse would maybe be to include more people in it?

i guess technically Mika was there but she didn't even get to say anything during the entire segment. 🥴

Also I wish there would be more in-depth discussions about proposed solutions. I don't think anyone disagrees there's a civics deficit? buuuuut what would be the practical steps to generate political will to actually implement better civics education?

man it's so unsatisfying when these discussion circle and circle around platitudes without offering up solutions. ---> this is no shade on Richard's book, btw, I'm sure there are specific proposals in there, I just wish they'd get to them sooner bc that's the meaty part of the discussion

There was an amazing segment today with an NJ librarian! lady! teaching a course on disinformation ---> i mean *she* should be writing a book, and doing rounds on the news and "author's residencies" etc. why is the news media always so allergic to actual specialists or people w specific on-the-ground experience out there amongst the humans, that's where genuine solutions come from

I wonder where Willie is, I miss him. also Joe randomly disappeared from the show today at the halfway point. it's so weird these random disappearances happen every day and they never explain any of it 🥴

loved Daniela's segment on chatgpt. it cracks me up that Eddie said some educators say this is a challenge bc quite frankly the shit it cranks out is moronic, idk what that says about his actual students and their capacity for independent thought agggh

excuse my ignorant ass, but *small voice* wtf is a skiff? or skieve? or...? They keep mentioning this

I googled it and got "a shallow, flat-bottomed open boat with sharp bow and square stern". So are they all looking at classified documents at the bottom of a pirate ship, complete with paraffin lamps, squaky wood panelling and barrels of rum?

//genuinely hoping this is the case bc it would be awesome

oh that makes so much more sense! heh.

Joe AWOL today, Mika in solo hosting from the Temple of Jupiter optimus! maximus! she said Joe's on assignment in Poland to report live from Auschwitz? it's odd Mika wouldn't go too since she's the one who's actually Polish. why would they just send him by himself, strange. also they mentioned before that Joe had long covid so presumably why he hasn't made it to NYC to do a real show in a million years, but then Poland is a much longer journey?

anyhoo! Willie is back! Yay! he's in NYC with Lemire, Mara and Hamlet! who has emerged from the dungeon! He's more interesting in daylight interacting with humans, the four of them actually had a really interesting discussion.

Why can't MSNBC send a historian someone with real knowledge and yes empathy (maybe Jewish) to cover National Holocaust Remembrance Day at Auschwitz.

I'm really annoyed that the overly opinionated Joe is reporting . I wonder if he ever met someone who survived the death camps or someone who's family members did. I grew up with both.

I found this too heavy to watch before work so I just watched it now. overall i thought it was well done.

it was a very odd choice not to include Mika in this given the sensitivity of the subject matter, it's also a very emotional place that families go together, he did look really out of place on his own.

it's also a memorial as well as a museum and many find walking through the gate with those cruel words a profoundly moving part of the experience, so just sort of standing in front of it like that for four hours almost seemed a bit inappropriate?

despite the odd choices, I did think it was well done overall. and timely, the 80th anniversary is 2 years from now but I understand why they did it now.

I'd recommend watching the Doug Emhoff interview, which was in the 9 a.m. hour

oh, and i don't think i've seen this on any of the MJ social media, but it is a museum, and like all museums chronically in need of resources  https://www.auschwitz.org/en/donate/

Can someone please tell me what media entity Joe is talking about when he says he has friends/family who tell him they’ve heard/seen/read something from a “Chinese religious cult?” For the life of me, I feel like I should know what he’s talking about, but I just don’t!

Newsreader...welcome.  Joe has always talked about his "contacts" who tell him things.  We are made to think he has friends in very high places.  In all walks of life.  In every corner of the globe. It is a running joke here.  ☺️

Thanks! I’m a longtime MJ watcher (for my sins, lol). I used to post about the show back in the TWoP days. Been reading this forum since TWoP closed and decided to finally post!

I think he's talking about relatives falling into this particular rabbit hole -->

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/24/technology/epoch-times-influence-falun-gong.html

while the Epoch Times is clearly a shitshow with questionable backing, the jury's still out on whether the whole of the Falun Gong movement is an actual cult since as a religious movement they've experienced a lot of persecution in China/HK

https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/18/asia/hong-kong-china-falun-gong-intl-hnk/index.html

maybe it's a two things can be true sort of situation, idk. it's all pretty weird, I mean, no one should spread disinformation but also no one should be persecuted for unusual spiritual beliefs. I mean it would actually be interesting if they did an actual segment on the nuances of this bc it's all very confusing 🥴

watching quickly by reason of skipping the very many boring! parts! --> now on the 9 a.m. hour, is it weird that I miss Joe?

He's so damn annoying, but also, I miss his crazy ass when he's not there.

somehow his insane sense of humor and ridiculousness cheers me up, as well as the wildly unrealistic! old! man! optimism, man, some days that's actually very peaceful and calming #comebacksoon

for the millionth time wishing Joe and Mika and Willie would do more actual studio shows with the three or them together, where all their actual energies are actually balanced and in the same room aaaaagh

I had the show muted.  When the cast from the casino murder mystery show was on, did Mika ask a question or pipe up?  Is Benjamin Bratt interesting?

It's weird that they don't do the show from the studio, right?  Does any other major TV show do this?  What a huge burden on the shoulders of the staffers and other hosts.

It's too bad because 100% Benjamin Bratt could make Mika blush and squirm with maybe just a look and a few words.  That'd have been fun TV.

Joe is back today.

He complained about the GOP trying to cut medicare & Social Security.

Joe complained about the GOP driving up the debt during his administration.

Mika is wearing a pink shawl. It must be from a new religious group that she is following.

Joe said that Trump was reckless.

Joe blamed the GOP for being self righteous.

Mika discussed the guests from different political parties that came to her parents home when Dr Z was working for President Carter.

Joe was excited that Condi Rice used to work for her dad as well as Madeleine Albright.

Joe said Floyd Pence was a very Conservative Congressman from South Carolina who defended other members on his committee.

Joe loves talking about his time in Congress.

Joe talked about the Truman administration.

Joe is happy with Biden strengthening Nato & getting other countries to increase defense spending.

Joe said no one can beat Trump for the GOP nomination.

Jen Psaki said Trump will win if there are many candidates in the race

Can someone PLEASE explain why we did not just blast that silly balloon out of the sky?  Vaporize the silly thing. This is ridiculous! 💥

Because they wanted to do it where the debris would fall on a non-populated area so no one would be hurt. Also, they were able to surveil the balloon and get good information from it while blocking info from the American sites the balloon was floating over so the Chinese got nothing.

I just watched Friday's show, and you know who would've been a really really great guest when discussing a shitty defamatory campaign against a muslim congresswoman --> an actual! muslim! woman!!!.... etc etc etc.

I mean I'm never saying the whole panel, but just...in any given situation, out of 14 or so guests, one, just one, could be representative of the actual demographic that's being f-ed over. As a general rule of thumb.

High-lemann is back!!! From his Ayahuasca retreat or wherever tf he goes on vacation. WTF happened to his podcast. I had a lot of flights in January and one of them I downloaded a ton of High-lemann podcast episodes before getting on to catch up and then on the flight they were literally all just reruns?? I ended up watching some shitty in-flight movie where Tina Fey fell in love with Paul Rudd, hours of my life I'll never get back

I know they all go AWOL from 8.30 to 9, and then disappear for the dull pre-packaged segments but has anyone figured out why/where Joe goes between 7.30 and 8 a.m.?

I'm gonna need more visuals of this balloon thingy. At the moment I'm just imagining something out of Jules Verne. ie swathes of rainbow colored fabric and some poor dude with binoculars in a top hat hurtling towards earth. Guessing that's not it

Willie: We summited Norway!

---> a...country? well, this is what happens to geographical knowledge when you stop leaving your house

sidenote, but I always wonder why people chose careers in tv news if they don't thrive and derive energy and creativity in the company of other humans. this new and sanitized self-isolation of an entire generation of tee-vee talent and contributors will never stop being puzzling to me. in the greater scheme of things, how do they interpret who they are and what they do and what their medium actually is #deepthoughts   If it's no longer about human connection, then what is it?

meanwhile Mika was trying to say she actually climbed Kilimanjaro (i think it was), heh. Joe would've been eaten by a mountain lion

anyhoo thank god for our Khaleesi Katty bringing some subtle shade and wit to the proceedings. Also Michael Steele!

Joe AWOL today, Mika solo hosting today from a totally new location. the plot thickens! it's not DC because she has no human guests and it's not Rivendell bc she's in front of some depressing backdrop of denuded trees

no wait, Joe is here, in Florida. Also High-lemann at home. overall it's the usual glum monday! MJ! vibes!

But in fairness, this interview with Jamie Harrison is actually pretty interesting. I like him. He said hi to his mom, it was adorable

ETA: *cough* High-lemann *cough* Shepard Fairey would be a really really great podcast guest!! bring the pod baaaack plz we miss it

image.png.56d1823b410b39be13abb571959b4818.png

i should probably stop doing this but no, no i won't 😜

I think Mika is actually in DC but in a different studio from DC Rivendell

ETA: well I gotta be fair. the guest list *does* have TWO women on it. and, you know, 15 men. thats 11% so it's a fairly accurate reflection of percentage of women the actual human population. oh wait

ETA2: Nikole Hannah-Jones is here!! yay! and Joe is being very good with her and actually letting her talk

she just said "the arc of history doesn't bend in any particular direction. *we* bend it" ---> thats such a great quote it actually gave me goosebumps

I saw the last minute or so of Meeka interviewing Pamela Anderson!  If anyone saw it....how did it go?

Next up:  Donny D with his "branding" schtick and a new book to chat about.  One of the reasons I have tuned out of MJ is Friends of Show constantly shilling their latest books. At this point the show has become inbred.

True. It usually takes Joe less than 5 minutes to get mad at anyone in the GOP from Florida .

I remember when he was outraged on the show at Rubio & Crist for not withdrawing from the GOP Senate primary in 2010 , so Joe could run  for the nomination unopposed.

He brought Mika to Florida and they toured the beaches during the BP oil spill.

Joe said that the house republicans are filled with insurrectionists weirdos & freaks.

Joe said Biden should promote his policies that led to record low unemployment.

It looks like Joe is staying in Florida today, so he won't be in congress for the speech tonight.

Joe is mad at Trump . The Koch brothers aren't inviting Trump to the donor retreat.

Joe repeated that Trump is a loser.

Joe said the Koch brothers supported him in 1994 when he was running for Congress.

well, oakville, someone's gotta be the Designated Survivor!

probably in case of emergency Joe will take over the reigns of government. He'll run the country from his Florida! bunker! without ever putting on pants

in other news, there's a special on with Rachel, Joy and Nicolle at 8 p.m. tonight!!! at least that's one good thing, when MJ is disappointing, the quality of those evening specials are always *chef's kiss*

On previous shows, Joe would brag that he was very popular with the Congressional Black Caucus & the Freedom Caucus when he was a member of the House. Joe said that many members of Congress wanted him to run for Speaker of House given his popularity.  If Joe was Speaker, he would sit behind President Biden during the speech , but he would probably end up interrupting the President's speech with his well rehearsed anecdotes about growing up in the South.

Did The Freedom Caucus exist When Joe Was In Congress?  I thought it formed with The Tea Party; and that Joe was Out of Office 😁 by then.  It all starts to blend at this point.

You are correct. Joe was a member of the new federalists which was founded before  the Freedom Caucus & Tea Party .

You know, maybe Joe has exaggerated his bio and bragged on it so often that he has some of it jumbled in his head. He has molded himself into A Man For All Seasons. Not bad for a poor boy from….how many places.
