Well, aren't we lucky, then, that the story keeps getting worse as even more news comes out. We don't have time to get conditioned to the latest horror, because there's always a worse one right around the corner. So I'm grateful the show is laser focused on this issue. It should be. It should be the ONLY thing the media is covering.

The problem is, due to the wall to wall coverage of hot-button issues on MJ and other shows, other things slip by unnoticed.  I would elaborate, but don't wish to run afoul of the parameters.

I hope someone can remember and help me with this.  I hope it isn't off-topic; I have tried "googling" everything and cannot find it.

Awhile back (maybe month-6 weeks or longer) MJ had an author on; one reason it was memorable was because it was toward the end of the show and BOTH hosts were at the desk.  The author was an Iraqi/Afghanistan vet and was pushing a book about PTSD.  It was a realistic, although I think positive book.  I wrote down the title but then tossed it by mistake about a week later. For some reason, I think it might have had "dog" in the title somewhere.  Does anyone remember this?  I tried the MJ website and didn't have any luck.  I also tried googling "PTSD, books authored by vets, "dog" in title, etc.  No luck.

Thanks.  We all probably try to forget the day's show by afternoon.

Mika's barrage of tweets the last few days have been nearly unintelligible. She always talks about how here Dad "spoke in complete paragraphs". It would be nice if Mika could at least write in complete sentences.

You aim for sentences, I’d be happy with complete words at this point. Lol. I’ve been quite enjoying the Joe-less Mika, but she really needs to start knowing the value of real words.

ETA: is she high?

Agreed.  The first barrage last night I chalked up to cuddling up with a bottle of chardonnay while Joe was out of town but today's tweets were hard to decipher too so I think she needs a quick Twitter communication class as her abbreviations leave a bit to be desired.

I watch news from France. They cover world issues & Trump. I think cable news hosts will freak out when Trump leaves office.

This might be what you're looking for: Will Mackin was promoting his new book Bring Out The Dog on MJ on April 27. I remember thinking that his title was interesting and distinctive so when you said "dog" ...

Good heavens Suomi how did you find this (hoping that this is what Kemper was looking for).  Goodness I searched for over an hour, good on you my friend!

I would hope no one says "I don't want to hear about it anymore". Yes it's difficult to bear witness to this tragedy, but those of us in our air conditioned homes, with food,a soft bed, and our loved ones around us, not being threatened by gangs or having our children taken from us by the Trump Administration, the least we can do is watch this and make sure we do what we can to stop it. Whether it be calling our representatives in Congress, protesting, and if all else fails, making sure we vote in November to throw anyone who doesn't vote to stop this, out of office.

My smug, self-satisfied snip of a daughter is the type who asks "Why do you read/watch that stuff?" With the patience of an atheistic saint, my answer is "If they live it, if they experience it, I have an obligation to expand my horizons by reading about it/watching the coverage." (We're not close, we're just related.)

Aw, shucks, thank you. I lucked out with "new book dog Iraq" (and now I'm off to read it on Kindle). Thank you, MJ! Truly, at one time, a wide array of authors promoting new books was the best part of this show. (Instead of Chris Matthews, Chris Matthews, and "up next on Morning Joe, Chris Matthews." Pfffttt.)

Oh for God’s sake. Joe is back on the anti-Hillary, “worst campaigner in history” train. Worse than Dukakis? Worse than Dole? Hell, worse than Kerry? (I still cringe when I recall that phony salute at the 2004 Dem convention)

Every campaign makes mistakes. Yet he magnifies hers to be all-encompassingly definitive. No, she didn’t go to Wisconsin personally. Maybe she should have. Would it have overcome the gerrymandering, voter suppression, Russian interference, racism, misogyny, and thirty years of horrifically personal partisan attacks that helped swing that state? No one knows. But let’s at least be honest, Joe, about what was really going on in that election and distribute the blame accordingly.

Oh, and now Mika is about to tout her “instagram battle”with Ivanka. She’s so tough. I can hardly wait to hear this one.

Thanks, Suomi, for finding the book...and yes, that's the one!  I have a hard time ordering on Amazon (can never remember my password and am often overwhelmed by the site) but am going to order it today.  I love this board!

I just tuned in...maybe 45 minutes in, so missed any oration by Joe...haven't heard any of the outrage spewing from him.  But...it would seem that Relationship-Meeka is back (Seinfeld).  She is dripping with her outrage and trying so hard to keep up with Joe's bloviating.  It is like she becomes another person when he is there.  Which is the real Meeka?

It would seem that all the air gets lot out of the panel when Joe is on.  I wish he would just go ahead and leave the show; he adds nothing but bravado and drips white male privilege and sexism. I switched to CBS This Morning for awhile.

I don't think Mika really knows Ivanka.

If she did she would say why should Ivanka do the right thing now?

Ick. Four minutes into the show and Joe tries to hold Mika's hand. He says they've been engaged for 13 years.

They probably will be, at the rate they're going.   Why do I get the feeling that Meeks is having second thoughts but doesn't know how to wiggle out of such a public romance without jeapordizing her seat at the table (aka, her "career")?  She gets sooo comfortable when he even mentions their relationship on-air, much less any actual PDA, however incongruous.

  • Love 2

The opening entertained me. Joey was amped and loud. For some reason, during the first few minutes, he came off with "We've been engaged for 13 years" (reaction shots) "so what is wrong with me holding her hand?" Scoop said if he would be quiet and let her read the news then he could hold her hand. This caused Willie to display conflicting body language. He crossed his arms tighter across his chest and leaned back but also smiled broadly and his eyes twinkled. (more reaction shots. I couldn't tell if Heidi Przybyla was doing "Oh, cute" or "WTF"). No hand holding was observed and the moment dissolved.

I finally placed the frump Scoop is wearing again today. The Donna Reed Show, late 50s to mid 60s. "Donna Stone" was married to the dimpled Dr Stone, a pediatrician, and their teen kids were Paul Petersen and Shelley Faberes. On Donna Reed that style was classic, with her shampoo set or her flip and small pearls; on Scoop that style is frumpy. Why did Mika start dressing like a 60s housewife? It's the first day of summer, why isn't she wearing something/anything Lilly Pulitzer-ish (that isn't a scarf)?

I heard some of the discussion about Monticello and Sally Hemings. When Mika broke out into a riff about how strong Sally Hemings was and how she made the most of her situation, I thought for sure she was going to say that Sally Hemings Knew Her Value.

I was wrong.

But I did get a kick out of hearing Joe go on about how he was attacked over the years by Hannity and Ingraham, blah, blah, blah, but then said "Not that this is all about me." Ha!

  • Love 3

So Joe is back and it's the same old cluster fuck as always.  Joe, if the previous "host" of the show left the mug of water that you were so enraged about on the desk , then why did you say Obama left it there.

If you're going to try to be funny, and I pray that this will be your last attempt, at least write the joke out ahead of time and see if it makes sense and has a thru line. Obama was never the previous host of your show, nitwit.

Mika no one cares that you follow Ivanka Trump on Instagram, or that she texted you back "off the record".   Stop name dropping.

If you cared as much about the organizations that are helping immigrants as you do your KYV bullshit, you'd run the contact info for the organizations on the screen, or just post them without mentioning "Know Your Value" which really cares about families and children and women, you know if you're a rich white socialite on the upper East Side.  Get your bony ass down to Texas if you want to show how much you care.   Other employees of MSNBC have been able to host a show from there, why can't you?  Oh, it's not a cozy pub, with a/c and good lighting and free booze?

God, please do not foster one of those children. They have suffered enough.  Send money and supplies if you want, but leave those poor kids to be cared for by people who do it because of a passion, not to show off.

Is she considering this?

They were talking about the kids that will remain in the centers and she said "we're thinking about fostering one".

Maybe she meant sponsor. Like how I sponsored two orphaned elephants from the Sheldrick Foundation in Kenya. People who actually know how to care for elephants do it.

Because with her record of dropping babies and falling down stairs and admitting she was absent so much while her daughters were growing up, and Joe's temper and instability in relationships, they'd be Parents of the Year.

So Joe's back eh?  Yikes, alpha male much?  It would have been less subtle if he had taken a whiz on the desk to mark his territory.  I lasted about 10 minutes and then moved on (the part of having online/offline conversations with Ivanka was just precious).

And Teddysmom bless you for supporting Sheldrick!  They are such a wonderful, deserving organization.

Can we talk about his hand holding thing. It’s so odd. Why is he doing this for so long? What is the point?

What does this mean?
Him wanting to be all alpha and assert his affection in public would normally read as he's apologizing or in a position of weakness and is trying to force her to reciprocate affection.  Not a super healthy signal.
Imagine the vibe on set if they break up.  Would she start dating Avenotti?   They should write this up as an HBO series and play themselves.

They are the most passive-aggressive couple I have ever seen.  He knows it drives her nuts when he does that so it makes him do it more.  My guess she does/did something earlier (they were muttering about arguing last night) so I think they spring their retaliation on air (like when she blew that birthday horn into the side of his face).  I'm wondering if the "we've been engaged for 13 years" crack could be a sign that maybe he's trying to set a date and she's resisting (her daughter has graduated now so they should be good to go).  And I apologize for putting on my faux psychoanalyst hat but it's one thing to pull your hand away in anger and another when it's a reflex/recoil action.  Not good optics this morning.  For me, I don't think their respective sets of kids are going to have to worry about planning holiday visits this year.

It’s almost like the make up sex is all they have going for them. Lol. I’ve never put such concerted time and effort into making my significant other uncomfortable in public.

  • Love 2

I missed the part with Joe but I did see her pat his hand trying to shut him  up when they were going to break.

It's bad enough that they're terrible at their jobs, but the fact that they torture everyone with this fucked up relationship is ridiculous.

WTF doesn't whoever's in charge sit them down and tell them to get their shit together.  Either resolve your problems in private, or break up. Stop bringing them to the show.

This!!   Is she really so stupid that she doesn't see how fucked up he is?   They bring out the worst in each other not the best.

I know I haven't had a relationship with any male other than my dog for a while, but I seem to recall if all you do is fight & f***, maybe it's not really a relationship?  What do they have in common?  Not politics. not sports. not where they were brought up or went to school.

And she only left Jim after she took up with Joe. Was she really that unhappy with Jim, or she's just a gold digging bitch who thought she was hitching her wagon to a star, and now she finds out she hitched herself to a ton of bricks floating to the bottom of the East River.

The only thing they have in common is they're both under qualified for their job, ill informed egotistical show offs.

Anybody see the "Dinner Party" episode of The Office? Remember when they go up to the bedroom, and Michael shows them how he sleeps on that bench at the foot of the bed? I have a feeling that's the sleeping arrangement for JoMika.

I don't get all of the criticism of Mika's wardrobe. She looks fine. I like her style better than the boring sleeveless tight dresses that many women broadcasters wear. Why does it bother people that she doesn't try to sex up her wardrobe?

I think it"s because during the years she and Joe were married to other people Mika was the poster girl for anchors in short tight sleeveless dresses and 4-inch heels. She did her utmost every day to popularize that look. It wasn't "will Mika wear a sheath today" but rather "what color sheath will Mika wear today." Her "leg in the air" pose wouldn't have garnered her fame and note/notoriety if it was done while wearing her current wardrobe. It begs credulity to do a 180 after your boss takes you up on what you offered by simpering and preening and rubbing shoulders with him while wearing the shortest skirts that decency permits on camera. Short skirts get shorter when the wearer changes from standing to sitting and crossing the legs hikes that puppy even higher. Joe's line of sight differed greatly from that of the camera. Whatever we were seeing, he was seeing a lot more. If I'm exaggerating, if the marriages were doomed to fail anyway, why aren't Mika and Joe coupled up with other partners? I remain convinced that Mika trawled for Joe by knowing the visual value of her body parts, which is why her "town pump turns PTA president" schtick invites ridicule. And snark. We hoist her on the petard she handed to us.

Remember the Vanity Fair photo? That was her image until about two years ago.  Sleeveless dresses, low cut, short, 4 inch heels.

This has photos of her in the early days, plus her shoes for some reason. Also check out the first pic, back when she had darker hair and no stick up her butt.

That style evolution link is a gem, Teddysmom; great minds think alike, etc etc. I was editing my post while you were typing yours. She chased him until he caught her (as my Nana used to say).

I do kinda feel bad for Donny Deutsch, who stumbled across the scent trail and thought it was for him. On live TV. Ouch.

On the topic of wardrobes: I really hate nude platform pumps.

Someone else mentioned this earlier, but I’d be zero percent surprised if Mr. Scarborough was behind the wardrobe shift.

The intent of nude pumps (platform or not) being to visually lengthen the female leg.

Nude pumps with short tight sheaths was her Morning Joe uniform for 8 years; the big change is notable because of how it corresponds with their personal timeline.

Suomi, I like your Nana's phrase very much and it's perfect for this situation.  I didn't realize Deutsch was mixed up in this.  Was that when he handed her those Louboutins because I remember that was more than awkward but I thought it was an inside joke gone wrong.

Call me old-fashioned or whatever but I hate the look of bare legs and pumps.

Mika looked more human in 2009.   She's hard now.  Plastic.   Tap-tap-tap on Mika's shell.

Maybe he's emulating Trump.

Which explains why Mika is emulating Melania in trying to brush him off.

And speaking of Ivanka, Mika's instagram adventure with the First Daughter was kind of sad.   Mika built the whole thing up only so she could boast of how she had dissed Ivanka, to make herself seem superior somehow.   Um, Mika, all that shameless name-dropping seriously undercuts any high ground you think you're occupying.

And I appreciate her tweeting/highlighting this crisis but this afternoon she's launched another volley on the same thing again.  My B.S. meter has been activated as articles about her have been appearing in both Page Six and the DailyMail lately so I'm thinking a publicist is having a hand in all of this coverage as she is clearly not the only one speaking out, just the only one in all the tabloids.  Plus isn't their contract up in September?

I've only watched Morning Joe for the past couple of years, so I was unaware of Mika's style evolution (except for that photo with her leg up in the air.) I just figured that it was cold in the studio and she liked wearing sweaters and scarves, and I couldn't figure out why it bothers people. Maybe she's feeling older too and doesn't feel it necessary to wear tight, sleeveless, short dresses??? I'm really pretty old myself, so what do I know?
