Show's completely off the rails this morning.   They've spent close to 15 minutes talking about movies, now they're plugging the virtues of NCIS.

They're on quite the ride this morning aren't they?  Messy messy messy.  And Meeks crowing that people watch their show because they don't follow a formula and you never know what's going to happen.  That includes them right?

Absolutely.   In fact, when Mika made that "never know what's going to happen" remark, one of the panelists chimed in "Especially today."

There was also a moment when one of the panelists, Sam, was trying to make a point (I forget about what) and he became frustrated that Scarborough wouldn't stop laughing.   He said, almost pouting, "This isn't funny.  I'm sorry to --- This is serious."  Scarborough shut up for a second as if contrite, then zinged him with a quote from a Burt Lancaster movie and started laughing again.

And I didn't see the opening but it appears the show is now sponsored by Filtr (where Joe is hiding his music now) and chatting up his next gig.  Maybe they should dial back the criticism of monetizing Mar-a-lago so much as I found the whole thing to be rather shameless and a bit grifty.

Ok I just tuned back in to find them discussing the president dissing Sen. McCain (how unexpected and different!) and then switched to Biden's problem with personal space (also fresh and unique).  Meeks is sitting with her arms crossed just glaring at the camera.  Methinks Joe is not in for a pleasant Friday.

Wow, how nice to announce your next guest by showing a clip of him being mocked by late night television (Rep. Tim Ryan).  Not that I mind as I didn't like what he tried to do to Pelosi.  I wonder if that will come up "so, what does it feel like to get beat up by a grandmother"?

Seriously, I like what he's talking about but I'm not sure I trust him to do what he says he's going to do.

eta:  Wow he must really feel special that the stars of the show don't particpate in his interview.  Wow.

eta part deux:  I stand corrected as Meeks has reappeared but I guess she sent Joe to his room as he is still MIA.

Whoever called the Paul and Linda thing is right on. I follow Linda’s photographs on Instagram and Joe likes them. He just needs to strap a camera around her neck.

GMTA. This caught my eye because 1) I had forgotten stormy's reference* and I laughed again and 2) I came here to say Yoko announced this morning that the upcoming rilly big shew at the Cutting Room is sold out. Curious, I went to that website and, of 20 events on the first 2 pages, with ticket prices ranging from $10-$150, John's is the only one sold out but also the only one with free admission. Make of that what you will.

*My dad used to say that one good thing about getting old and forgetting stuff is that all of your old books are new again.

I feel the same way about what he tried to do to Pelosi, and wondered if anyone else felt the same way.  Also, I kept thinking that those who were so adamant against her becoming the leader before the election, were falling into a political trap by supporting the message of an opposing party.  That turned me off of Tim Ryan as it made him seem weak and/or opportunistic. I'm not sure which.

I tuned in late, just in time to see the last part of the Tim Ryan interview.  I saw Meeka but didn't see Joe; I figured he "was off" today.  Then he turned up for the next segment!  Why wouldn't he be on set for an interview with a presidential candidate?  Then I see he turns up for the Kristen Hillebrand appearance.  Wait, was she on in the first hour and they are rerunning it?

And all of you are right; the show seems to be a mess today.  Meeka has kind of succeeded in finding a sense of humor; based on her husband's, of course; and of being a "funny" mean girl to some of the panelists.

I just saw that. Joe was very rude to Sam Stein.

OMIGOD! 8:45 AM Mika hosts the new NBC Special "The Mark Halperin Contrition Tour." After he finishes his apology (a recording was played,) Mika goes "hmm" in the condescending way she likes to do.  Interesting...

So is this what Willie is going to be like with Democratic  candidates this cycle? "Are you one of those socialists who wants Medicare for All? Yes or no! Are you one of those socialists who wants to impose a job guarantee?  Yes or no! Are you one of those socialists who wants to get rid of ICE? Yes or no!"

It was like watching a police interrogation instead of an interview. And it was made worse by the fact that Willie was mis-characterize her positions. Does he really not know the difference between Medicare for All and Medicare buy in?

And to top it off, Mika is using the Gillibrand interview to push Halperin further down the redemption trail. Ugh, that's gross.

Even before all the Mark Halperin revelations. I never liked him on the show. Hope they don't bring him back. Always came across to me like he was busy trying to demonstrate how he was superior when he was on the show, and it made for boring and stifling discussions.

Mark H and John Heileman were always a study in contrasts.  Halperin came off as a smug, humorless Washington insider; kind of like Chuck Todd but with better hair.  It is nice that he apologized but that should be it.  He can write a book, write a column, be on any other network that I don't regularly watch; especially first thing in the morning.  I just don't want to see his face with my morning tea.

Tim Ryan is my Congressman and I have met him a couple of times (I live in the Cleveland exurbs, but am from NY-NJ - AOC is my daughter's Congressperson - Astoria. Enough sharing.) He's a decent guy with good positions on the issues but he's probably not ready to be President yet. He does seem to be a little ambitious right now. He would probably make a good Senator or Governor. I was actually happy to see him challenge Nancy Pelosi.

Seriously! They had two presidential candidates on the show and couldn't be bothered to get out of the bunker.

At this point, I wonder why the guests bother.

Joe was in a time out there for a while as he was completely out of control at the beginning of the show.  I can't imagine the conversation the Scarboroughs had when they both disappeared for about 15 minutes with just Meeks returning sans Joe.

Between the aptly worded "Mark Halperin Contrition Tour" and then the "Let's Play Girl Power With Kirsten Gillibrand" they just let it all hang out today.  She was just adorable when she kept wrinkling her nose and asking Willie "Can I give you my position on that?" about three times.  GAH.  You are a Senator for heaven sakes.

I almost forgot my favorite part of the show!  They were talking about Biden and Meeks pops up with "if you want to talk about inappropriate hugs I could tell you a story" the whole time glaring into the camera with her arms crossed/clenched across her chest.  I can only guess who that was directed at . . .

Bill Clinton, which would explain her many years of spite on the show toward all Clintons? Or the son of the president of Lebanon, in the south of France, when he made her sunbathe topless and watch porn later? You can't make this stuff up and you don't need to because they talk about it on national TV.

I wouldn't be surprised if Clinton was inappropriate, but I think their hatred of Clinton is due more in part because she wouldn't do their show.  I think she may have appeared once during 2016, never during the book tour altho she did every other MSNBC show, and Mika has even complained "we tried to get Hillary on, we've asked and asked and they refuse".

I can't imagine why... other than you held court for Donald Trump non stop.   Or maybe she just thinks you're a dumbass .

They've mentioned more than once on the show that our president is very fond of Meeks and that they had "stories".  They've been threatening this for a while now and since there was no mention of Bill I figured it was directed at our president.

Suomi I don't know but after they had that falling out at Mar-a-lago I've read in articles and they've hinted on the show about these "stories" (oh and text messages).  Breaking up is hard to do.

Mika has zero room to say anything about any inappropriate hugging now, though, after her take on the Biden accusations. Whether or not someone is uncomfortable with the way someone else is in their personal space is subjective, and Mika outright denied the accusers’ personal experiences/personal responses with it. Now, if she tries to go after Trump for something similar, people can easily use the same argument against her and deny her experience of it — she misinterpreted the intent, or whatever. After all, there’s video of Mika flirting and running her fingers through Trump’s hair too.

Joe may also be working on a new album.

Holy shameless plug, Batman!

Why do they have a conservative, Brett Stephens, handicapping the Democratic race? And talk about inside the beltway politics, the immediate discussion afterwards is, how is Biden going to stop Bernie Sanders, dismissing everyone else?! Gah! God, these non-Democrats, leading the most ridiculous discussion about the Democratic primaries and what Democrats want is exasperating.

What effort, really?   Reading the daily newspapers for an hour before airtime?  Or maybe just the columns written by scheduled guests.   I suspect more effort goes into a show like Talking Dead than Morning Joe.

I suspect the majority of the show comes as a complete surprise to them other than knowing what the top stories are and maybe what guests to expect.  It's clear Meeks doesn't read through what's loaded into the Teleprompter before she sits down in front of the camera and Joe's rants are becoming more rambling and unfocused.  I think they are living their best life in FL with their unrelenting obsession with making Joe's music popular with folks outside of their 23 and Me matches.

Lately I have been wishing for a news commentary program that isn't all-Trump all-the-time.   But it doesn't exist.   Trump is low hanging fruit and the media is lazy.   I would have preferred a segment about the rhino poacher who was trampled to death by an elephant and his body eaten by lions than analysis about why Bernie Sanders is like Trump.

Mika is a woman who knows the value of being affiliated with prominent and influential men. First her father, now Joe. She is where she is because of her last name. And it shows. She's a woman desperately in search of something to call her own.

Before she flipped over to KYV, she was spending her time preaching about how she was no longer obsessed with weight loss and fitness, having freed herself from her obsession with, and black-and-white thinking about, food. Ironically, and with her typical lack of self-awareness, she then "demonstrated" her freedom from body shame and dieting by taking it upon herself to criticize and police what everyone else on the show ate, thus drawing more attention than ever to the concept of making people think about food in black-and-white terms and shaming people about what they eat. God forbid, someone ate a donut on-set! So much for her mission to normalize attitudes about food.

Now, with all her KYV crap, I find myself nostalgic for the days when she was focused on her mission as the show's resident food-police and lecturer on the immorality of sugar. Sigh.
