I just watched Mika's newest home video for Knowing Your Value. She's certainly being really productive on her own. The re-release must be coming up soon. You can see a Scarborough for Congress yard sign (or whatever) briefly flash in the background when she's re-situating herself about halfway through. Lol. Can you imagine willingly signing up to relive Joe's time in Congress for, in theory, the rest of your life?

Good eye on the Scarborough sign. I never would have noticed that. Very strange thing to hang on your wall. I don't think it is Joe's house, though. I'm  not sure it's Mika's house either. It doesn't look the same as photos she has posted on Instagram. Mika's mother's house maybe? But why would she want a Scarborough sign?

Mika's mentioned having a place in Georgetown, it's probably there.

Why would anybody want a Scarborough sign on their wall, even #joeandmika? Lol

Wait a minute, so they have a place in Connecticut, Manhattan, Georgetown, and presumably Mika pays alimony for her husband's place wherever that is?  That is reasonably $9 million to $14 million in real estate.  Have Mika's books sold well?

That's not the issue.  Cambridge Analytica stole the user profiles of 50 million Facebook users.  This means they know who their friends are, what they subscribe to, what they write, how frequently they use the platform, what they "like" on the platform, where they live, where they travel, where they work, male/female, education, values, parenthood, religion, politics, and on and on and on.  Facebook prides itself in its analytics and ability to slice data by demos and psychographics, as well as optimize ads/messaging against behavioral attribution algorithms (totally legit - if you bought shoes on Amazon Facebook could follow you with an ad for socks from your most local store, or a local 5k coming up - not sinister, helpful to you and the business who bought your data).
Cambridge Analytica built predictive analytics from all these profiles in order to build a strategy to manipulate values, probable voting habits, to biases, etc... all to exploit fears from less intelligent, more malleable minds.  To do this, they: set up fake accounts that would either incite real accounts to anger, or act as an echo chamber to exacerbate existing biases; they planted fake news stories disseminated by fake news "companies" that only exist as a Facebook page and these stories would be propagated by their fake accounts and then taken up and spread by real accounts; and other tactics too, it was a constant barrage of messaging designed to divide "us vs them."  It may seem benign but playing on fears probably won the election for Trump.  They also split the Hillary vote by backing Bernie, exploiting naive 20 somethings and cynical smart asses who hate the status quo, with fake stories, fake events, and boosting their energy with fake news about Hillary being corrupt.  A large portion of the voter base was manipulated by Cambridge Analytica and Russian intelligence.

The evidence of that today?  When Ignatius said that 75% of Americans believe there is a "deep state" cabal that controls the world.  That is so fucking stupid and simpleminded it's scary and deeply depressing.

Thanks!. I am scared of this intrusion into our personal lives

Yes, Mika had a small apartment in Georgetown that she sold. She said at the time she wanted a bigger place so that her daughter could visit, but probably the reason was so that there was more room for her and Joe. Maybe they bought a place together.

Most people would not want a Scarborough sign, but #joeandmika are not most people!!

Mika has a house in Bronxville. The Connecticut house if for sale. Not sure if they still have a place in Manhattan.

Conservatives have been accusing bias in the liberal media for decades.  Joe probably made those accusations himself back in the day, though not as much as others or else he wouldn't have gotten this gig in the NE.

And then all the claims of fake news in the 2016 campaign.  Tens of millions only read FB feeds for their news.  TV shows like MJ get only a fraction of those ratings.

So yes, unfortunately millions do vote on FB ads or lies shared by FB "friends."

Oakville - just to see the type of stuff a company like Cambridge Analytica can do (and how they to it)  you might want might to read the book The Whole Truth by David Baldacci.  It's a fiction book but I had to keep looking at the print date (2008 I believe) because it chillingly echoes what may be happening today with companies like Cambridge and fake news/ manipulation of readers and elections.

For some perspective on the deep state poll, here is a link at Monmouth about that question and the poll. It explains what they mean by the term deep state around paragraph 8.

http://bit.ly/2pvHOlF

From what I read, the so called deep state could apply to lobbyists and corporations pushing their agendas. I have always thought the deep state was much more sinister.

That highly sophisticated, super-secret ring of shadowy puppetmasters lost the election to an oaf like Donald Trump.

Some cabal.

Ignatius was a touch wry, and flummoxed, when he said he couldn't believe that 75% of people believe the world is run by a sinister conspiracy, led by the FBI.  Half-mockingly observing that those conspiracists are at the same time thrilled when the FBI is on top of the bombings and shootings... but he didn't go far enough and I can't believe he didn't say the above quote verbatim.  I can't believe every single news person on earth doesn't say that when confronted with "the deep state."

Where do they find these people? No one has EVER called me for a poll.

It can't just be people with land lines, right? If so, they're getting info from our parents and grandparents. If not the land line demo they somehow have a list of every X Files fan

Wednesday Recap. Mika is wearing the ice cream Neapolitan colored scarf on top of a grey top. She is in the Washington Studio. Top story is Trump not following written instructions from his National Security Team. The told him not to congratulate Putin on his election victory. He did that. He didn't bring up the poisonings. Katty Kay, Joe Turley & Josh Earnest are on the set.

Mika was excited about Trump dealing with Porn Stars & Playboy Bunnies. She thinks that will bring him down.

Willie admitted that Obama congratulated Putin in 2012. It's a common practice among leaders.

Mika mentioned the Austin Bomber being neutralized.

Mika admitted they made a mistake with Trump's lawyer Digenova. he isn't a Fox News Contributor.

Mika likes saying the words "Porn Star" . Lester Holt calls her an adult film actress.

Mika wants to ensure that women who use their looks to get what they want are treated in a condescending matter. She is so smug the way she says "Porn Star"

Katty prevented Mika from reading the sexual acts that Stormy did with Trump.

Turley said the payment to Stormy could be a campaign finance violation.

Katty Kay said its wrong to have an affair when your wife just gave birth to your son. Multiple affairs are also bad. Thanks Katty!

Mika was excited that Trump's support among white women who are college educated is dropping.

Thanks as always for the recap Oakville.  I was watching the Austin bombings press conference on CNN (I was surprised MSNBC didn't cut to it but I guess Mika was just too excited to squeak about how women are ultimately going to take Trump down) so I missed the first hour but was relieved I didn't miss Brennan.  Between his segment and the thermo-nuclear meltdown of Col. Ralph Peters yesterday I am feeling a bit better about our beloved country.

And once again, good thoughts for you folks that are in the path of yet another nor'easter.

Oh, man, all this SERIOUS news about the Austin bomber and the Putin phone call, and they go for the LIGHTNING on Kasie's introduction.  I love it when Kasie gets her revenge by being so much more articulate than Mika.

Mika: "You have to hit the keys to spell the words right."  (That's okay, Mika, don't worry about using your adverbs *correctly* when criticizing someone's spelling.)

I have to say, it looks like Mika is having the time of her life flying solo.  No glowering at the camera, getting to set the agenda.  It will be interesting when the Mr. returns to watch the dynamics shift again.

And that's terrible they are still doing that to Kasie, especially with the seriousness of the news these days.  It not only is insulting to Kasie it degrades the whole show.

I almost never watch CNN, but I wanted actual *news* about the Austin bomber which CNN was providing, and found that Erica Hill was anchoring this morning. (have always appreciated her reporting) Here is some advice for Mika from Erica about an alternative to the phrase "porn star":

I agree Landsnark, for me today was the day that MJ officially jumped from being a news show to an opinion show.  It was newscaster malpractice that they didn't cut to at least a few minutes of a brief but informative news conference (especially since the news was actually breaking at that time).  We can wait to hear about Stormy Daniels and Trump's growing list of lawsuits.  There is plenty of time to adequately cover that during their three hour show.

I find it strange that they didn't focus on the Austin Bomber. That is a scary story. I just shake my head at the KCDC lightning intro. It's rude & "jumped the shark" several months ago.

Is it really a shock that Trump had affairs? Mika is on live at 8 a.m. I like watching the snow fall in the background.

I changed the channel to watch news on CNN.  Mika ought to be perhaps be fired for this... this is dereliction and irresponsible.  The breaking news this morning is the "Deep State" found and neutralized a murderer to save red state voters from one of their own, and, Trump is infuriated about the leak of the Putin meeting yesterday.  THAT is the news this morning.  Mika has chosen to talk about her pet topics.  She made the wrong call and right now MSNBC is not a source of news and today's ratings are probably miles behind their competitors.
Mika should have zero control of topics and no producing authority.

I switched to Fox to see the live reports from Texas.

That's brilliant; I did not think of going to Fox, but they are doing great and new coverage of the Austin bomber.  I could not believe that Mika or the producers could not pivot to this huge breaking news.  And then Mika spent the final five minutes showing reruns of parts of the Brennan interview instead of the breaking news from Austin.

Mika reads the news like a high schooler doing Homeroom Headlines in the AV Lab.   She's the worst.   Then she gets all schoolmarmish repeatedly admonishing Republicans to go watch the Brennan interview like it's an extra credit assignment.   Clearly she thinks she scored another big "scoop" by just sitting there while guests talk.

They ran that Brennan interview at least two times after it aired. Okay we know Brennan hates Trump. Move on.

Mika was getting hysterical  like it was the scoop of the decade. They are not discussing ANYTHING we all don't know while letting a huge news story get covered by every other network.

Mika seems to be determined to focus on Trump sex life until he resigns or is removed from office.

I didn't even know what had happened until I turned to a different channel, and didn't find out he blew himself up til I saw my email from the Boston Globe a couple minutes ago. I can't believe they didn't cut in for that news.

Adult film actress is how she should be referred to, and I was wondering why all media doesn't refer to her by her real name Stephanie Clifford.  Why it's almost like the media wants to denigrate her for her chosen profession, while using her to pump up ratings.

Is it really that difficult to understand how CA used FB .  That they used algorithms to find people susceptible to bullshit or who believed in gov't conspiracies, hated Clinton etc.

Someone on another forum asked "why does Trump care if I like Pepsi?"  People like me, who have NO personal info on FB, not even employer, high school or a picture of myself probably aren't at too much risk, but not knowing what Facebook is or "how the internet works"? For fuck's sake Barnicle.

IIRC, they also used those personality profile quizzes?  I am SOOO glad when it says log in with Facebook, I say no.  Like I care what character I am in Twilight.

from your lips to God's ears.

Cambridge Analytical claimed that they had special algorithms to figure out which party you belonged to, which things you believed, which issues might push your buttons.

In fact, what they did was have people take quizzes while logged into FB and the quiz app. stole info on all the FB friends of the people and their profiles without the permissions of the quiz takers or their friends.

It was basically like super identity theft because the FB profiles of those friends had detailed info. About their politics and issues.

That is why FB blocked or kicked CA off their platform and their CEO was just suspended.  FB is also in trouble with the politicians demanding Zuckerberg to explain how they allowed this identity theft.

i don't think Barnicle would necessarily understand nor that Senator.  But I also heard older people are heavily into FB to keep in touch with grandchildren pics and so on.  Average of hundreds of FB friends each so this theft would affect tens of millions of people.

J’adore how Know Your Value has become so versatile a phrase. ?

I saw another clip from this morning whilst scrolling through the Twitterverse. Mika changed up her make up and got a manicure. Her clothes are nice and fitted properly again. Girl is truly living her best life right now.

The split sets in DC and NYC is still weird to me. I guess it’s better than the Brady Bunch vibe with 101 split screens all up at once, but that’s a low bar.

I don't like that about Mika. She is condescending towards women that depend on their physical attributes. However, she has done the same thing. In her first book, she acknowledged that her bosses at CBS told her she looked  "frumpy" & that she needed to lose weight & update her wardrobe. She took a break from her job to get plastic surgery to "freshen up" her attributes.
