Didn't see this mentioned but Ryan and Noelle were on Raid The Cage a couple weeks ago:

https://parade.com/tv/cbs-raid-the-cage-amazing-race-scott-lori-thompson-survivor-noelle-lambert-ryan-medrano

I did not know Ryan was a paralympian and honestly, don't even remember him on the show.

I won't spoil it for anyone who wants to watch but Noelle probably yelled "Let's go!" about a thousand times during the one hour show. I hate that phrase.

Ryan and Noelle both competed in the The Paralympic Games this past summer.

Survivor host Jeff Probst explains why show stopped doing schoolyard picks to determine tribes
It's been 31 seasons and counting.
By Dalton Ross   March 6, 2025
https://ew.com/survivor-jeff-probst-why-show-stopped-schoolyard-picks-11691638

Quote

“I like this question because schoolyard picks are fun,” Probst says on the podcast. “But they are super risky because you are relying on the players to self-divide into somewhat even tribes.”
*  *  *
“From that standpoint, as a producer, it's a bit terrifying to start a season that way,” Probst says. “And so you have to ask yourself: Okay, let's look at our own risk versus reward here. What do we get from starting a season that way? Well, it's a fun opening beat. What do we risk from starting a season that way? We could get terribly lopsided tribes.”

And Probst already anticipates what some fans would say to that. “On the other hand, I know what you're thinking: We don't always do a good job of picking tribes ourselves. And we spend a lot of time analyzing the data — the IQ, the strength, the age, their puzzle ability. And we're looking at all different types of tribe formations and we still get it wrong.”
*  *  *
At this point, cohost Jay Wolff cuts in, asking, “So what I hear you saying is there is a chance we could see a schoolyard pick for tribes.” And while Probst responds, “There is a chance, yes” — the fact that he is laughing while saying it, coupled with 31 seasons of history speaking otherwise, tells us not to hold our collective breath.

I had a feeling that they probably figured Star’s clue out but chose not to tell her.  I couldn’t believe it was taking this long for them to figure it out when the other tribes seemed to find their idols no problem.  It sucks she had to wind up with that group.  Not sure what her chances are with the new group since Eva still wants her out but I’m hoping David swings it to Charity.

Just saw a very short promo for Survivor during one of the NCAA tournament games.  It starts with a voiceover (I can’t tell which female it is) saying “Just take your time.”  Words then come across the screen saying “there has never been a moment like this” and it cuts to a very emotional Jeff in the game saying “wow, this has never happened…”

We may be in for a tear jerker this Wednesday.

I guess I should have checked YouTube first but it was a shorter version of this:

For me, the scene where Shauhin, Joe, Kyle, and Kamilla were talking about their backgrounds and the really serious struggles their parents faced was much more emotional and affecting -- and much less manufactured -- than the Eva segment.

ETA: Manufactured by the show, I mean. Of course I believe it was genuine for Eva.

Jeff Probst Reveals Why We Don’t See Epically Long Endurance Challenges on ‘Survivor’ Anymore
Mike Bloom   April 9, 2025
https://parade.com/tv/jeff-probst-survivor-epic-long-endurance-challenges

Quote

Everything changed, however, in Survivor: Palau. In a true representation of the war-themed season, the final Immunity Challenge, “Bob-Bob Buoy,” came down to a battle for the ages between alliancemates Tom Westman and Ian Rosenberger. The two men hung on astoundingly for almost 12 hours, through the evening into the next morning. Eventually, due to the mounting emotional toil of the days leading up to the challenge, Ian purposely dropped out of the challenge and the game, telling Tom to vote him out.

Of course, Joe and David's record-breaking performances were one of the biggest subjects talked about on this week's episode of “On Fire: The Official Survivor Podcast.” And, on the note of endurance challenges, Survivor 47 winners – and this season's alumni co-host – Rachel LaMont asked host and executive producer Jeff Probst why the show no longer does endurance challenges that aim to go for hours.

“It's a really good question,” he replied. “So from a challenge perspective, when it comes to entertainment value, you need a challenge to have enough layers and last long enough that you actually have something to tell that there can be turning points. Somebody's ahead, somebody catches up. What you don't need is 11 hours of that, because we can only take so much time in an episode for a challenge.”

“In the early seasons, we had these challenges, and we weren't very sophisticated,” he continued. “Palau, that was a nightmare for us from a production standpoint. Because night came, we had to bring fires out. And then Tom said, ‘Nobody said anything about fires! Get rid of those fires! [Author's note: Tom was a firefighter, which makes his statement even funnier.] We had to pivot. So we didn't want to get into that situation anymore. So we started realizing, after Palau, let's make sure these challenges don't go on forever. So now the threshold is somebody could go two hours, maybe three hours. We don't want somebody going eight hours anymore.”

Survivor 48 host Jeff Probst explains why they moved the Tribal Council voting booth
By Dalton Ross   April 10, 2025
https://ew.com/survivor-48-host-jeff-probst-explains-why-moved-voting-booth-11712400

Quote

Little did he [Cedrek] know that sneaky Sai “purposely wrote it in cursive so no one would know it was my handwriting.” Jeff Probst commented on this penmanship misdirection on the latest episode of his On Fire with Jeff Probst podcast. “It reminds me that every player has their own unique approach,” Probst says on the podcast, “and they see things that other players don't see as an opportunity.”
*  *  *
Sai’s voting booth shenanigans also serve as exhibit A as to why the voting booth location has shifted over the years, which Probst reveals on the podcast. “I'll give you a direct relation to how my view of the vote has changed Tribal Council and the layout of it,” he says. “In the early seasons, the voting area was straight down the pipe from where the players were. So they could watch a player go up and vote.”
*  *  *
But even with those safety precautions put in place, the open eye-line voting situation still created potential privacy issues that bothered the host.
*  *  *
And that’s exactly what they did. “So we moved the voting booth so that you could no longer see the player when they were voting.”
*  *  *
But even that movement was not enough. “And then recently we even elevated it and moved it even farther away to give even more privacy, the host explains. “And so Survivor is always evolving and it's almost always the players who are evolving it. And I think in this new era, we're seeing tiny little evolutions that are slowly shifting the game one move at a time.”

She said a similar thing in her EW exit interview saying that she'd had a "massive impact" on the game. I can't imagine what impact she thought she had as a pre-jury boot. That it was her idea to vote Stephanie out at the first TC? That she cast four spite votes, only one of which resulted in that person going home and only because two other people independently decided to vote for that person and that person was Kevin, who most people barely remember? That she was on the wrong side of every other vote because she voted based on her personal grudges?

"Massive impact," "they're obsessed with me," "they voted me out because I'm a threat." This person is out of her mind.

  • Mind Blown 2

Well, I’ll give Sai one thing-I’ll probably remember her before I remember whoever ends up winning this season.  And considering she was zero threat it says something they were willing to sacrifice her over breaking up the Joe/Eva duo, which I think shows Chrissy and Mitch aren’t playing very smart.  Yes, I know she was a wild card and no one could stand her, but much like Cedrek, she’d be an easy vote down the road.  Or the perfect person to sit next to at the end.

Jeff Probst explains why Survivor no longer does combat challenges
By Dalton Ross   April 15, 2025 1
https://ew.com/jeff-probst-explains-why-survivor-no-longer-does-combat-challenges-11713350

Quote

The question came from a fan and self-proclaimed “future player” named Ben, who asked: “In early seasons, we saw a lot of head-to-head combat challenges where players might wrestle one another to try and push each other off a platform into the mud. I think I understand why these challenges no longer happen, but I miss the emotional fallout that resulted from getting out-muscled by a worthy competitor. Would you consider bringing challenges like these back to increase the chances of personal vendettas and moments of heroism?”
*  *  *
Probst replied to the query, emphasizing the fact that while Survivor challenges are still very physical — and having done around 30 of them myself while on location over the years, I can attest to that — there is a line the show no longer wants to cross.

“It's a really fair question,” Probst says on the podcast. “And it also speaks to the idea that if you had a different group of people in charge of Survivor, we might have a lot of these challenges. Survivor could have gone the route of The Challenge show and make it more physical and all of that. We just took a different approach. But I would say in terms of why we don't have those, there wasn't a defining moment when we decided to back off of these types of challenges.”
*  *  *
“There was a period, it was like three or four seasons in a row where we all started feeling, are we pressing a little too hard on the physicality?” Probst says, “especially in the one-on-one or two-on-two challenges, because we don't want the challenges to be so physical that it's likely somebody will get hurt.”
*  *  *
Apparently, Sumo at Sea (which first appeared in season 10 of Survivor: Pulau and was last run in season 29 of San Juan del Sur) is one of the specific competitions of which the show wants to steer clear. “That was one of the ones that made this shift happen,” Probst reveals.

“There was something we noticed,” he continues. “The one-on-one-ness of it got into something really primal inside people and it became a little more like angry, like, ‘I'm going to knock you off.’ And it added a layer of dynamic that yes, to Ben's point, it is compelling, but it's going to take your game in a certain direction, and it's just not what we want.”
*  *  *
In the end, the host is looking for the spirit of hard-fought competition without anything approaching actual fighting. “We want it to be physical and adrenaline and all of that, but we don't want it to be, ‘I'm going to knock you off this fricking platform.’ That's just not the show we're looking for.” (R.I.P. Attack Zone from Survivor: Thailand.)

I’ll admit when they first got engaged I wasn’t sure if it would last, but good for them in being what I think was the first reality TV showmance (that wasn’t part of an actual dating show) to turn what they had into a long lasting marriage.
