Not to make this about the Steelers, but I totally forgot that we have yet another team to win a playoff game more recently than Pittsburgh's last win 8 years ago.  Something that won't get blurted out enough on those airwaves.  There's at least one team annually at this point, since 2020 I think (Cleveland, Cincinnati, Giants, Detroit, now Washington).

I did remember earlier in the week that there were 2 (Washington & Denver). Knew Broncos didn't have a chance but I forgot Washington due to the last meeting between them and Tampa.

What's more important here is?  While I figured that Washington might have a tough time against the team that beat them to open things in the Bucs, it IS the first playoff win in a long time, and Year One in the Josh Harris Era!

Tweeters who like Brady are like “well you have to give him time it’s his first year.”

Exfuckingactly.  It’s his FIRST YEAR.  He should not have been shoved into the lead booth without getting his feet wet on an C or D team.  And did no one at FOX ever hear the tone of his voice before?

And they knew they would have the Super Bowl this year.   When he delayed starting a year, they should have said "Yeah you don't get to call a Super Bowl in your first year."

Yay, Commanders won!

If Dan Snyder was still there I would have been rooting against them.  But he is gone and I like Jayden Daniels so yay. But I would have been just as content with a TB win.  Neither one of them was likely to get through the next round but both are fun to watch.

There always seems to be at least one home team loses in the Wild Card round but with Minnesota playing the Rams tonight there just might be two.

Sort of off topic question, and something that's been on my mind for about a week:

To our NFL fans here that are in & around the LA area...how are you doing today?  I hope you are all well.  And I hope for the best over the next couple of days & the week.  It's pretty much hitting me in a rough way (not me literally...I'm in Western PA).

Thinking of the game today.  Regardless of whatever, I like how the game is going through & in a different venue.  I think it's not a bad thing for the fans to look forward to doing something to get their minds off of a tough week.  For the activities that were cancelled, I totally understand.  Life tops everything.  So I hope you all get through such a terrible period.  And you will.  Stay strong.

If Dan Snyder was still there that field goal would have bounced off AND OUT.

For the record while I'm happy for both teams I would have preferred Tampa Bay since that's a bad matchup for Philadelphia.  I think the history of the latter is horrible against Tampa.

I'm not saying that the Bucs would win (think the Eagles still beat them), but it's like a time when the Patriots would not want to have anything to do with the Ravens.  The only team that could beat them.  But New England in 2014 was pretty good which made for a very good game between the two.

Minnesota winning would be okay.  I think either team could give Philly trouble.  I like the Vikings chances more unless the weather sucks.  Probably not enough to beat them but might be enough to wound them a little and enough for Detroit (or Washington).

Yeah I'm surprised the league allowed it (or didn't have a big issue with it).  TB12 should have waited until 2025 or started last year in 2023.  Hopefully someone isn't dumb enough to let him come back in 2028 should he leave after this season, but either way, Greg should have stayed on for a 3 man booth at the worst

Woohoo, McCarthy Gone.

Apparently the length of contract was a sticking point.   Mike probably wanted some security and Jerry wanted to be able to move on without financial consequence after next year.

Who will Jerry pick now?   We know it won't fix anything because ... Jerry.

@bluegirl147Sadly it is.   Because like them or not, they consistently get high ratings, even when losing.   It's one of the top jobs in the NFL.   And quite frankly, sure you gotta put with Jerry but then there's your built in excuse when you fail.   You would have done better but the GM picked terrible players and interfered in daily football decisions.

I was curious so I checked. Dallas has only only had nine head coaches since 1960.  With all but one coming after Jones bought them.  He got rid of Tom Landry who had been there for almost 30 years. Of those eight coaches four of them never became a head coach again.  I wonder if these coaches come in thinking things will be different for them or do they think yeah this is going to be shit show but it's the Dallas freakin Cowboys?

Somebody suggested that Pittsburgh & Dallas trade coaches.  I think it was the FOX guys.

First things first, it's more likely that Jerry Jones gives up his GM powers before the Steelers trade their HC (to the Cowboys).  Furthermore, it couldn't work given this scenario of McCarthy no longer being under contract.

Other than Chicago, there are no vacancies where there's a decent QB currently on the team.  Unless people are patient & wait for 2026 when the draft class is better

I'm not a fan of McCarthy as I don't think he's a great coach.  More mediocre, as he couldn't win more than one SB w/Aaron Rodgers in his prime.

However, I do feel bad for him.  Not only does he have to deal w/Jerry as GM & owner, and he's blamed for poor performance when Jerry is the idiot who seeds the team, but Jerry treated him like crap during this last week when McCarthy had a chance to interview for the Bears HC job.

I'm sure he could still get an interview, but the Bears maybe already have someone they're enamored with.  Jerry just dicked around with the guy's future.

Tom Brady's voice is just so boring. He never gets excited & he doesn't add much. He seems to mess up names too. He also looks like a robot when they show him on camera lol.

The fact that he doesn't do commercials tells us a lot.  He is very wooden.  He is definitely not a natural in front of the camera.

A doink for the win.

What was up with the Commanders kicker and his helmet?  He kept starting to put it on, then fussing with his barely existent hair.  The entire walk out.

Zane Gonzalez has OCD.

Troy Aikman says it's not a coveted HC job. I think he's right. In today's NFL, up-and-coming coordinators are often the most desired by teams, but after years of this, the coordinators of today have seen what happens to the coordinators of yesteryear who went into iffy situations and didn't do well. It can take a while, if ever, to get another HC opportunity - even if there are built-in excuses. And one built-in excuse is not like another built-in excuse. For instance, I think another owner would be okay with "the QB I inherited was a bust," but if you say "the last owner I worked for sucked," they're thinking that if you fail at your next job, you'll say the same thing about them. (One reason why it's advised at job interviews in general not to trash wherever/whoever you've left/are leaving, even if you did leave/are leaving because they sucked.) Younger coaches have increasingly learned that it's better to stay a coordinator until a really good opportunity comes along, instead of leaving the first time a team offers a HC gig.

NFL coaches don't get endorsement deals the way star athletes do, so ratings aren't as much a factor. Also, Jerry Jones doesn't want anyone competing with him for attention, so coaches who are interested in having a high public profile need not apply.

Ben Johnson is the hottest coaching prospect this season. Zero chance he goes to Dallas.

When Deon played for the Cowboys he was Jerrys bestest bud.  Seriously. What Deon wanted he got. They've kept in touch over the years.

But would Deion want to coach a team his son didn't play for?  His son will be off the board by the time Dallas picks I would think.

Are the Vikings trying to kill Darnold?

I thought the same thing.  He was getting hit a lot. Was it like this all year?  If so how did they win 14 games?

I think I should mention that the McCarthy I was referring to was Jonathan James, and not Michael, which despite a decent coaching career, would a downgrade from Kevin O'Connell in Minnesota

I don't think McCarthy ends up better than Darnold.  There are rumors McCarthy might not be there next season.

Yeah that's what I've hearing.  I do think the Vikings will "work with" Darnold.  Whether they trade him or franchise him will be determined this year.  I'd be surprised if they let him go for free.  Sure the end of the season didn't look great.  1 TD in the final 2 games isn't ideal but it doesn't make the season a total failure.

Plus, JJ has an injury history.  At least this one to start the year.  Furthermore, that college team he played for was deep.  He wasn't the (big) reason for their success.

One thing that doesn't really get asked (a lot if at all) gets asked in college (both basketball & football).  "Who have they played?"  Minnesota's schedule was a joke, so those 14 wins helped.  To be fair, you gotta play who's on your schedule.  That's what the Vikings did.  It's not their fault their competition wasn't very good, but that might explain their great record (and my case or part of my reason why I wouldn't have given them home field over Tampa and their eventual opponent in the Rams, though the latter's non-conference schedule wasn't much better).

If it's Dallas, they all bets are off.  Despite my joke, that's a totally different story.  Him and Jerry are pretty close from what I understand.

Speaking of which, while I wouldn't bet on the following working, I sorta hope his son snubs Vegas in a way Eli and Elway did to other teams.  Might have Deion use the magic for it to work.  Apparently they want nothing to do with Deion, but they want / would like his son.  "Nobody coaches my son but me!"

Of course Sanders might be off the board by the time the Raiders make their first selection.  What's different between Las Vegas & teams like Tennessee & New York is both their head coaches are in place.  Deion would want the best for his son, and being a Raiders QB under some random HC is not it

Louis Riddick,  who is friends with & a former teammate of Deion's says it wouldn't work w/him coaching Dallas.  Jerry's 82 he's not gonna change.  There ain't no way he's letting anyone else be the face of the franchise.

And while Deion might be willing to take a step back for the sake of their friendship, just being Deion will automatically have the spotlight on him.

Plus Deion loves molding young men.  NFL players won't necessarily respond to that side of him.
