I will watch once someone else does and I can be reassured that nothing will ping my secondhand embarrassment meter like the awkward rumor/relationship talk that happened one of the last times Aisha was live with them.

And IIRC it was Aisha's podcast where he really overshared on some of the down right stalkery and other legal problems he had with his ex wife and that marriage.

I get snarking on people who are snarking about your relationships because they don't know you and create crazy theories, but it's not like he doesn't give people ammunition.

Wayne Brady and some other guy will be part of it, so hopefully that'll cut down on their dumb Jar antics and inside jokes.

Yeah, it was his episode of Girl on Guy, lol.

And some of the crazy theories they were making fun of, THEY started! Like...just...lol

I don't think EBR has ever been (publicly) part of the Jar that enjoys bitching, being surperior to and trolling fans about those photos or Stemily for that matter, but if you don't want to invite speculation about your private life, don't post them. There are other photos of the two of you and there are many people who wouldn't kiss their platonic friends on the lips etc so it's not surprising people (including several lesbian/bi sites) got excited by it.

It's the same sort of thing with the Stemily nonsense. There are a lot of ways you can express your platonic love for a very good friend without footholding, snuggling and other stuff, so I do think they play up to it when it suits them. Both of them.

And I would guess there's some very unsoberness going on all around at the moment. Let's see what happens...…..

Caity Lotz was SA's guest on May 14...

How'd You Do It? Episode 12: Caity Lotz
Stephen Amell   May 14, 2020

-- SA confirmed that CL did a chemistry read with him before being cast on Arrow.
SA: "I came to know you for the first time for your role in Mad Men. I'm sure that there was plenty of things you did before that. But then you and I met, uh, in a parking lot outside of the Burbank Studios when you were doing a chemistry read with me for Sara Lance. You came on and you were my partner in crime for all of season 2... I know season 2 for sure, but then I'm just making sure I - I'm correct when we dropped you off a roof, uh, season 3, right?"
CL: "I think it was the first episode of season 3."
SA: "First episode of season 3. Shot ya, threw ya off a roof."
CL: "Yeah, they really were like, let's make sure she's dead. Like, hit the dumpster. Like, shot one, two, three, at least three arrows. Throw her off the roof. Land on the dumpster. And then the cement."
SA: "Yeah, for sure. And then definitely get the shot with the eyes just - (Holds his eyes open and unseeing) wide open. So we went - we went from that."

-- CL described her career journey from dancer to actor:
SA: "But then, all of a sudden in season 4, they started kicking around the idea about a show called Legends of Tomorrow and miraculously Sara Lance came back from the dead via the Lazarus Pit. And since then you have established yourself, in my opinion, as the lead character on that show. You guys are several seasons in, um, and, um, again, you're the lead on a show in an incredibly competitive industry. How'd you do it?"
CL: "'How'd you do it?' (Laughs) Um, gosh, that's a great question."
SA: "Well, begin at the beginning."
CL: "So I started as a professional dancer. That's the reason that I came to L.A. I started dancing professionally when I was 17. Um, I started dancing when I was 7 and then professionally at 17. I never really knew that I could have like a job as an artist. I didn't know that. I didn't know anybody in the industry. Um, but then I started working and making money dancing and I basically this whole time is just, I've followed what I'm passionate about. I followed what I've been curious. Um, and I think the key with that is, when you really love something and you're passionate about it, you're willing to put in all the work. I don't think I was like naturally just gifted at certain things, but I just work my ass off to become very good at whatever it was, and that was easy because I loved it. So dancing led me and then I had a short stint in a girl - girl group, singing over in Europe. And then I came back -"
SA: "Wait, don't - don't gloss over that, please... Explain that one for a second before you keep going on the story."
CL: "Um, yeah, I just - I had this opportunity to move to Berlin to be in a singing group and one of my best friends was doing it. She was going and, you know, they were like, ‘come, come do it.’ And I'm like, ‘I don't sing.’ And they're like, ‘it's okay, you can be like the sexy talker, the rapper.’ And I was like, ‘cool, yeah, I'll spin on my head, let's do it.’ Um, and so I moved to Berlin and I was there for two years, uh, touring around Europe. And it was - was a fun time and I think actually that was a big thing that because I was supposed to go - I was gonna go to UCLA and maybe be a psychologist or something, I don't know, but this made me realize that I could live a lie as an artist. Um, and when I came back, uh, I was dancing with Lady Gaga and toured with Avril Lavigne. And then I started taking acting classes. So I was like, oh, dancing doesn't feel the same and I was really interested in acting. Um, and then I - Mad Men was my first job. And so then that led me to that and it's - I've just been, I guess, following what I love and also not doubting myself. I've never been worried about failing or not failing or being the best. It's - I just do it because I love it and that makes it much simpler. Um, and it makes you - what made me able to be more fearless in whatever endeavor I was going after. And now my - uh, a lot of my creative focus and excitement is turning towards directing. So hopefully I'll be doing a lot more of that."

-- CL said that she'll be directing another Legends episode next season.
SA: "Well, again, don't gloss over that, because you directed an episode of Legends this year."
CL: "Yeah. And I - I talked to our showrunner and they want me to do another one next season, which is a good sign."
SA: "Do you mean that you demanded that you get to do another one next season?"
CL: "No. I asked. I genuinely asked."

-- CL said that dancing career was harder than acting career.
Drew: "So what's harder? The - the dancing career or the acting career, in terms of just -"
CL: "Dancing."
Drew: "Dancing for sure. I figured."
SA: "Okay. Why?"
CL: "I mean, it's definitely like -"
Drew: "You work your ass off, like physically hard, right? Not that actors don't."
CL: "[Unintelligible words] get treated like shit."
SA: "Okay. There it is. Okay."
CL: "Nobody - nobody really cares it's - I mean, dance has become more popular now, but they never got a - because you were always behind something. Like, you were backup dancing for an artist or you're in a commercial for a product. Uh, usually you're not the center of focus. Um, and - and it just is really taxing on your body, and the money is nowhere near as good as, uh, acting, that's for sure."
SA: "Also, I feel like they would treat you like you're eminently replaceable."
CL: "Yes. Yeah... Then it's like, you know, a lot of times dancers are young as well and it's, you know, they're - it's easier to push - push them around than it is an actor, where you need their face."

-- CL explained the Warner Brothers/Greg Berlanti requirements for being given the opportunity to direct a television episode.*
SA: "So on the directing front, for people who don't know, if you're an actor on a television show with an interest in directing, specifically, actually, working for Warner Brothers, take us through that process. What do you have to do in order for everyone involved in the show to be comfortable giving you an episode to direct?"
CL: "Well, Berlanti has, um, established like pretty clear guidelines and things that need to happen. So you have to do the Warner Brothers directing program, which is an awesome course that focuses specially on - it's not really teaching you how to be a director. You go to this course already knowing how to be a director. It's teaching you specifically directing television and how to work within that framework. There's a lot of feature directors that then go through the program to get into it. And in order to get into that program, you have to had directed a narrative short. Um, so directed a short film. Uh, I wrote, produced and directed it. And then I took the Warner Brothers program. And then the other requirement is two shadows. You need to shadow twice, which is - it's actually a pretty big commitment because you're there -"
SA: "Yeah, explain the shadowing - the process of shadowing a director."
CL: "So you - you have to be there with the director from start to finish. So it's not just the nine days of production. It's also the prep beforehand and the post afterwards. So however long, I guess it's - it's just under like two weeks, I think, actually maybe you get seven or eight work days of prep and you're with the director throughout the entire process, which is all day into the night. And if you're shadowing James Bamford, also on the weekends, um, going with him to locations as he shot lifts... It's actually, uh, pretty awesome how seriously he takes - when he takes on a shadow, he really invests in them and makes an effort to teach them, um, and share with them what he's doing. Uh, so that was - I shadowed Bam on Arrow on the Arrow finale, which was a big one. And it was great and actually quite interesting too. You learn a lot about acting through that process and - and also it just was really nice, you get to know the crew so wonderfully when you're not the actor and - but you're as involved. Um, and then I shadowed on the premiere of Legends, um, was my second one."
SA: "Who'd you shadow there?"
CL: "Kevin Mock, who's our producing director... And that was an interesting episode, too, because it was basically like a Spinal Tap type episode, a mockumentary, so that was, uh - that was pretty - that was pretty interesting."
(Some talk about a new director being dropped into a serialized TV show and adapting to that show's tone and style.)

(* These requirements are apparently not absolutely mandatory. DR got to direct Arrow episodes but never participated in the WB directors program, although I believe he did do the shadowing. KC participated in the WB directors program, in the same 2019 class as CL, but apparently didn't do enough to graduate because she's not listed among the alumni of that class.)

-- CL explained when Legends of Tomorrow transitioned from its S1 style to its current ever-changing style.
CL: "Season 1 was - it was really like trying to just be like the other Arrowverse shows a bit... And then I think season 2 is when it started finding its voice. And then season 3 is when it was like, oh, this is it. We definitely had like a jump the shark moment. I remember it very specifically. We were in the Viking time and then there was - this was the first appearance of Beebo, which was like - we're like - this Tickle Me Elmo doll, and, you know, it was like - we were dressed as Vikings and they're carrying out this Tickle Me Elmo doll that's like talking and all of the Vikings think it's a god. And we're like, okay, we - we might've just jumped the shark. Like, this - it's over. Like, say good-bye to your career. The show is over. And then it worked."

-- CL confirmed that Legends had finished production for the season before the coronavirus shutdown.
SA: "Where were you guys in the production schedule of Legends when all of this went down?"
CL: "Finished."
SA: "Okay. I never know your production schedule because you guys don't do the same number of episodes. But you guys were done? So your season's in the can?"
CL: "Yes. We're totally done, which was great. It didn't, you know - now they're talking about when we're gonna be able to go back and film and also what's that gonna look like. Are we going to be quarantined up there, stuck up there? How's that going to affect directors? Are we going to be able to have different directors? Are they going to be able to fly over the border? Are they going to have to quarantine? Like, it's a - it's a very curious time."

-- CL described some of her memories from shooting season 2 of Arrow.
SA: "What are some of your memories, specifically from season 2 of Arrow, because you and I were ride-or-die for that entire season? I worked with you, I think, more than I worked with anyone else, because especially those - the days on the island - just us, just out in the wilderness."
CL: "Yeah, yeah. I remember some of the ones, I think that was the first - it was a particularly cold winter... and I was like this California girl, you know, coming up north, and - and I just remember being like, oh, like, it's snowing. Like, it's cancelled, right? Like we're not filming because it's too cold. And they're like, uh, no, put on that leather superhero suit and get out there. And I remember, like, I had a scene with Katrina where we like, we had to make out and it was so cold - you know when you're cold and your nose just runs?"
SA: "I will never forget this night for as long as I live. Go ahead."
CL: "And it was so cold, I think we were right by the water, and I just - I could not get the snot like, for both of us, we're having to kiss and it's just like, your noses are running like crazy, and it wasn't very cute."
SA: "Um, this was - this was maybe episode - this was like some mid - mid-season. It was the first appearance of Katrina Law as Nyssa al Ghul and this was like Friday night at like 3 o' clock in the morning. And Drew, it's snowed in Vancouver, it's rained in Vancouver the entirety of the time that I was there. This was the coldest that it has ever been in Vancouver. It was minus 11 or 12 Celsius, that we're talking like 10 degrees Fahrenheit... and Caity's having to walk up to Katrina, who - who, you know, has a - sort of her League of Assassins cloak on, but you were in a, like, a jean jacket and a tee shirt, okay? I'm - I'm well behind them in the - I'm well behind them in the Arrow suit with thermals underneath. And they kept coming up to me - the makeup department kept coming up to me and being like... kept touching me up, 'your nose is all read, your face is all red.' And I go, 'fix it in post, it's minus 14 f**kin Celsius out here, I'm freezing!'"
CL: "The best was, I remember getting a script and it was like, uh, 'Sara Lance swims out from - from the ocean and steps onto the shore.' And this is in the middle of winter and I'm like, 'what, what? What do you mean, I'm swimming like in there?' And they're like, 'yeah, we're gonna go to Squamish and like you're gonna have to get into water.' And I literally had a wetsuit on underneath my clothes. I looked like I gained like 30 pounds. And we had to get in the water and like full-on climb out onto the shore and it was like negative 8 degrees."
Drew: "What time of year was this? This was the middle of winter and they're putting you in the ocean?"
CL: "Yes."
Drew: "That's insane."
SA: "In the first season in episode 10 -"
Drew: "Can't they build you a tank, you know, on the soundstage?"
SA: "You know what? As a matter of fact, they can. And we've both done that because -"
CL: "I almost drowned in one of those."
SA: "Okay. Holy smokes."
CL: "They had - well, like, you know how they do the waves? Like, so they have a big tank and there's waves - so there's a wave machine and there's rain. And they're doing this overhead shot and I'm supposed to be like drowning, so like coming up from the water like "ahhhh' (Mimes gasping for air) and doing all of this (Waves her arms) and I went up and I went 'ahhhh' and a wave crashed... swallowed... and thank God they have a - like, a little guy in a scuba outfit underneath and he had to come save me. ... There was a lot of water stuff that season... Some of that stuff was really fun, though."
SA: "So I was just gonna say, just – and that actually leads me to one of my - one of my favorite days for a variety of reasons. But in episode 10 of season 1, Eagle Egilsson's first episode directing, they dropped me in a creek in - in basically 32-degree weather. And it was raining and it was cold, and I was wearing shorts and a tee shirt, my outfit for the first part of season 1 on the island. And I was able to psych myself up for it and fall in the creek for the first time. I actually really hurt my tailbone. I landed on a rock. That I could deal with. What I couldn't deal with was when he was like, 'alright, I want to get a slow-motion shot of you coming up out of the water, so you got to get back in now.' And I'm like, 'oh no, man, you got - you mean I gotta like dip myself back in this freezing stream and slowly come up and look like I'm calm?' 'Yeah, I gotta get it for my episode.' Okay, thank you very much. Uh, one of days that - that Caity was referring to, and this was my last day filming and, I think, the production's last day filming season 2, where we flooded the freighter. And they built a set and they put up barriers all around and there's water rushing in and we're - I'm - we're having these crazy fight scenes."
CL: "And sparks going off, like waterfall things."
SA: "It was a freighter that was off the shore of Lian Yu that was basically a major plot point of the season 2 flashbacks. ... Those were halcyon days. Those were good times. I really enjoyed them."
CL: "They were really fun. Yeah."

-- CL confirmed that, when she auditioned for Arrow, she was told that she wasn't CW material; and she also confirmed that she thought she was going to become a regular on Arrow before she was killed off.
CL: "And you know what else I would say too, in terms of like when Stephen, you were asking me how - how I did it. Uh, I've always felt like - a lot of people think, like, you - you go in and it's like, oh magic, like, you got it, you got this and you got this. And I don't - I don't think ever, even if - my advice to other people would be like, even if people don't see it in you right away, they don't, you know, say, 'oh yeah, you're - you look like the lead of a show' or 'you should be the lead' or this, like, I had to - I had to really earn that. Like, that didn't just -"
SA: "Yes, you did."
CL: "I didn't walk in the room and - and they're like, you, you know, be the lead. It's - I started as this - at first, even with - when I auditioned for Arrow, they were like, 'no, you're not CW at all, not gonna happen, like, sorry.' And then I got called back in."
SA: "Yeah, we had to - we had to fight for you. We really did... Go ahead. Keep going."
CL: "Yeah. It's like, people don't always see it. And like, don't let that stop you. Just 'cause somebody else doesn't see it, don't let it stop you. And then it was like, you know, guest - guest star and turned into more. But then it was like, hey, you're dead... And so, you know... that whole season, it was like, you know, thinking that I was going to be a regular on the show."
SA: "Yeah."
CL: "And then they were like, 'hey, by the way, we're killing you off, goodbye.' ... You know, they were nice about it, but business is business."
SA: "Yes it is. Not only that, Drew, but, um, again, Caity - Caity's character died during the first episode of season 3. She filmed until 6 o' clock in the morning and - and the f**kin' CW, to throw people off the scent that we were killing her character, put her on a plane and sent her to Comic-Con, and she walked into the panel that day on no sleep, because we wanted to feature Sara Lance so that people would be shocked that October when she's f**ckin' dead."
CL: "And having to pretend - and then having to pretend like, you know, everyone's so excited for season 3 and I'm like (Mimes clapping her hands and smiling)."
SA: "Well, listen, I'll say that - that through the years, you and I have had a lot of - had a lot of conversations that, um, are between you and I, but the one thing that I'll say is, you've - you're shown a real determination. You really have. You've - you've had to fight for every inch of what you've got. And, uh, it's well-deserved."
CL: "Thank you. And like it - 'cause it didn't end there. And then it was like, okay, Legends. And when I got on Legends, in terms of the call sheet numbers, I was at the very bottom. It was all the men and then the two women. Is where I started on that show. And - and I even remember my agent - because I was like, 'hey, guys, this seems, you know, like my character's been around longer.' He was like, 'well, you're a woman, so we kind of have to, like, don't want you to seem difficult and get a reputation.' And like - but I showed up every day and like that - there wasn't a plan to make Sara Lance captain. Like, she - it emerged as that. Um, and so my advice to people is, if people don't see it in you, make them see it in you. Keep going. Keep going. Persevere and like, be the best you can be and take any opportunity that you can and eventually like, you know, you'll - you'll get somewhere."
SA: "There it is. There it is."

-- Like SA's other instagram chats, they did some silly hypotheticals, like a hypothetical match-up between Beatrix Kiddo (Uma Thurman's character in Kill Bill) and Sara Lance.
CL: "I think that's, like, been the hard thing with the evolution of Sara's character is, she used to have nothing and had nothing to lose and was way more, uh, in touch with her assassin side."
SA: "Yeah. Season 2 Sara Lance, (Makes noise) yeah."
CL: "Yeah. And like, also she just hated herself. So I feel like, that was [unintelligible words]. Then she would have gone toe-to-toe, I think, pretty greatly with... But I don't know, and that's the part of the thing with the Legends now, it's like, she has so much more to lose than now she has this relationship, she's with Ava, she has her whole team she's looking after, she's really trying to work on herself and become like a fully evolved human. And, I don't know, that - that can make you soft. And so I guess it depend on like what stage. Like, right now? Do you mean right now Sara Lance?"
SA: "I think that 'hates-herself' Sara Lance can take down - can take down Beatrix Kiddo in a fight, but current Sara Lance, slightly domesticated, relatively speaking, yeah, I don't - I don't know that she's willing to go to the lengths that Beatrix Kiddo's willing to go."
CL: "I think previous Sara Lance, uh, would've probably like bedded Beatrix, like hooked up with her, and done like a Gone Girl situation and taken her out... But now she's got a girlfriend and she's much more kind."

This just confirms my belief that they were going to make her the BC and do something else with Laurel, until something changed late in season two.  😕

I wonder if the old rumours about KC getting lawyers involved are actually true? IF it was literally in her contract to be BC. or just pressure from whoever at the network really supports her. Or Kreisberg's wife as her manager. They really rushed KC into the role so quickly and then she was "fully formed" and background, same with Dinah and began the devaluing of BC as a name on the show.  I mean things worked out well for CL but there's a part of me that wonders what it would have been like to have her permanently BC on Arrow.

I remember her at S3 SDCC and having to pretend she had a storyline when it was death and a few flashbacks/vertigo hallucinations. I don't want to hear how KC had it worse than everyone else when finding out her fate when both CL and CD have recently restated that it also sucked donkey balls for them to have to smile and not tell anyone for months.

And Oh My God, her agent being like "well you're a woman so even if you've been around longer suck it up otherwise you'll get fired!" I mean LOT S1 was stuffed with recognisable names on TV so I guess it's not surprising, but even so. It's obvious that the original plan was more Captain Rip as a regular etc but even by early S2 Sara was the obvious choice to take over.

I'm catching up on these videos and I thought another interesting part of the Mark Bunting one was when they talked about their rapport on set and how SA liked MB because he'd stand up to him. Once again, SA comes off as kind of a diva. I don't know why he keeps telling these stories because it doesn't reflect well professionally on how he behaves on set. It's around the 50-min mark

Quote

SA: The relationship that we had on set, we could go out for a beer afterwards or go to a Seahawks game or whatever but you know on set it's not the easiest thing. He and I never yelled at one another but when I'm just like [snottily] 'Look man, I'm ready!' and he goes [frustrated] 'Well then, just be ready!' and we were able to have a back and forth that at times to an outsider, to an onlooker would look like it was hostile but it wasn't. It was just like, we're here to do a job and people are gonna get pissed sometimes and we're up against a clock and it's 4 o'clock in the morning and it's raining and let's just get this shit done.

I watched it. EBR was adorable, AT was the most professional (helped the host keep everyone focused and talked about the charity), CA was fine (though she made a comment about eating bats that was a bit 👀), and SA had audio issues because he didn’t charge his airpods and honestly acted like a petulant child. He was so snippy with his wife that at one point, the host asked “are you two ok?” It was total cringe. (He also made his username “Olicity4eva” which everyone in the comment stream seemed to think was cute but I assumed was a bit mocking, but who knows?)

He was nice to EBR though. She kept changing into ridiculous helmets and once he was laughing so hard about it he couldn’t talk. He signed “I heart you” to her at one point, and at another she signed “220/10” at him. There was also a cute bit at the beginning where she said she didn’t know him and he said “you shut your mouth!” and she got really close to the screen and whispered “Can I talk to you for a second? That’s not what I meant.” So them being cute almost made you forget that he kept throwing tantrums about tech issues and losing.

I didn’t watch the AT cocktail live stream yet but here it is:

I thought he was being really sulky, but between the technical issues and apparently not knowing how to play, SA didn't get off to a good start. And it didn't help that everyone except EBR was making fun of him instead of helping him. CA was snippy right back at him, so it's not like she was de-escalating the situation.

EBR was the best thing about the livestream. Loved all her helmets and how she kept trying to make everyone laugh.

It was racist and unfortunately they zoomed in on her when she felt the need to elaborate on it. Her sound cut off on the tail end - technology should’ve done her a favor and cut the whole thing off.

Colton Haynes was the guest on May 15 - as usual, I only transcribed some of the comments...

How'd You Do It? Episode 13: Colton Haynes
Stephen Amell    May 15, 2020

-- SA: "I wanna know how a guy goes from Andale, Kansas, to being, um, a very established, um, and reputable actor, who's also got a new show, an AMC series called I Run Hot, that you're playing the lead. How'd you do it?"
CH: "Oh my gosh, I don't even know. I still ask myself, like, who did I - I just kind of BS-ed my way into it. But I lived in a town of 650 people and I just really was - ... There's only two paved roads. I think they just got a gas station, but when I lived there the gas station was 15 miles away. So, like, I couldn't go anywhere. That was - we were so poor, you had to have enough money to get to the gas station. So I just walked everywhere. But then I just - I moved - I was 14. I moved to Florida with my sister and I was kind of, like, just with a friend, playing around, and we were taking pictures. And then I sent my photos into the top 10 agencies and I got feedback from all of them. So I went with the top agency called DNA, I believe. And then right after that, like, my first, um, shoot was for Abercrombie. Then I did that kind of through the last two years of high school. And then, um, you know, I did this like audition for this kind of local movie, but they didn't like the way my voice sounded, so they used my face but dubbed in someone else's voice."
SA: "Okay. Alright. Hang on. I gotta stop you here. I had a movie that I did with Mischa Barton. It was a Richard Attenborough film, and I - I was - I was so bad in it and so what they didn't want that they dubbed my voice for the entirety of the movie. It's called Closing the Ring. Find it. Go buy it. Watch it. ... Anyway, please keep going it."
CH: "Basically, so yeah, I just started doing that, like, I started modeling. I moved to New York, uh, during the summers and, yeah, then I just - you know, I really felt, everyone kept kind of pushing me to, because they were like, you're weird, like, you know, you're very - I don't know. I've just always been kind of a little odd, I guess, and just kind of say - and my personality has always been kind of big. So they were like, you need to move to L.A. So I did. And then, yeah - and then I just kind of - I booked my first audition out here for CSI: Miami, uh, for a guest spot and then I didn't work for -"
SA: "That was your first - that was your first job?"
CH: "Yeah, my first - my first actual, like, AFTRA-SAG audition was that."
SA: "That was my first SAG job."
CH: "Are you serious?"
SA: "CSI: Miami. I'm dead serious."
CH: "I didn't know that. ... It was the coolest experience in the world. Like, I was terrified."
SA: "Same for me. Same for me."
CH: "So bad. But I just looked like two big floating lips on the screen. And then I got a call after it aired from - from Management 360 and then they called my cell phone randomly and then - yeah, and then it just kind of picked up from there. But I didn't work for a year and a half after I booked that."
SA: "Your first - your first main job series regular being Teen Wolf?"
CH: "It was actually - so I - when I booked Teen Wolf, they booked me as a guest star. And while we were filming, um, I was about to test for this ABC show called The Gates, uh, which was a - I play a werewolf on that. And so in the middle of Teen Wolf, I - they offered me a series reg. I said, 'no' for now, 'cause I was gonna go test for that show. Then I got that show, did it for a season, got cancelled, and then went right back to Teen Wolf, when they went to production for the first season. So, yeah. So it's just kind of like timing has always been really, you know - I've just been really lucky that timing has kind of been on my side. For the most part, I guess."

-- SA: "And then how did Arrow come about?"
CH: "Oh my gosh. I - I was about to start, I think, the second season of Teen Wolf. There was, you know, a negotiation issue and, um, I backed out. And then Greg Berlanti called me on my cell phone and was like, 'Hey, would you like to come be on Arrow?' And I was like, 'Are you kidding me?' Like, 'I would love to.' And that was right after the billboards were out, right after you guys had premiered to 4 point what? Two million? And so, obviously I’d seen your face all around town and I was like, that show's huge. So yeah - and so he gave me the part and then it was three episodes that turned into six and then turned into a series regular. So it was just - I don't know, it was so - it was so exciting. Like, super, super awesome way to kind of start a new chapter."

-- Some talk about CH's new AMC series, I Run Hot.

-- SA: "You and I met for the first time in 2013 and our friendship from my perspective has evolved a little bit. The first couple of seasons that you were on the show, I was very, uh, myopic and kind of laser-focused and didn't always realize that maybe the set wasn't the most comfortable place for you. And since then, we've become really good friends and I've had some really, um, special, emotional moments. Um, but what - what was the - what was the experience like on Arrow in your first couple of seasons compared to when you came back? And that's not specific to me... That's just specific to your experience."
CH: "You know, when I first came on the show, it was obviously a new experience. I mean, I had never been to Canada at that point, um, and I really - you know, everyone really kind of hit it off from the beginning. And, you know, working was definitely - the hours were something...The funny part is, if I couldn't get used to my hours, I barely worked at all and I was still like, meh, like, oh god, like, super complaining, not publicly, but like, to myself. Um, but then you're over there working like, I don't know, 16 hours a day. So obviously it's - you know, having new people come on the show and you're working non-stop, that is, you know, it's something that you're having to focus on what you're doing and not focusing on, you know, other things. So that's totally understandable. Um, but yeah, I mean, it just was - I really had such an awesome time and it was fun because, with Willa Holland's, with Thea - Willa Holland's character - you know, we obviously, um, I, uh - our chemistry on camera really played, but for those viewers out there, I don't like girls. So, uh, it's been a very fun thing, uh, seeing how our chemistry really kind of was electric from the beginning."
SA: "It was. Straight up."
CH: "Oh. I really liked working on Arrow because, with Arrow, they really - in the editing process, they - they really play the moments. Um, they're not cutting back and forth to like and not cutting your emotional reaction to someone else's dialogue. And that really worked for us. So I really - I just felt like it was kind of lightning in a bottle and I was super fortunate that they asked me to come be a part of it... And then I, you know - I mean, obviously we've been through this before, but I just - man, the ups and downs from - from age 23 or 24 for me, uh, until 29, 30, uh, was very interesting. So then I was - you know, left the show for a couple seasons, was lucky enough to come back. And, um, our relationship has evolved, you know, drastically, throughout that, and we've just gotten to do so many fun things together, and just so many amazing memories. And yeah."

-- SA: "Drew, have I ever told you what I think was the turning point in my relationship with Colton, because I didn't realize that - it was never bad, but maybe I was a little less aware of what he needed than I should have been. Have I ever explained that to you?"
Drew: "No."
SA: "I was at a con in - a comic con in - oh gosh, 2015 or 2016 and, uh, Colton wasn't out yet. And, uh, a fan at a comic con, um, tried to out Colton by asking a question, like, 'Now that we know that Colton Haynes is gay...' And I'm like, 'oh shit, f**k, what is about to happen here?' And I called Colton and I was like, 'Look, man, this happened. I handled it the best that I could, but it's not my - it's not my story to tell, and I feel really bad.' And I feel like from that point forward, um, at least from my perspective, we understood each other a little better."
Drew: "So they asked you that, without Colton there?"
SA: "They asked me that in front of 7,000 people, with everyone with their f**kin' cell phones up, watching it, and it's being recorded. And I'm like, 'oh godd**n it.'"
CH: "Also, you didn't - you didn't - like, you didn't give anything away and you didn't say anything. I mean, it wasn't - yeah, I mean, but also -"
SA: "No. I didn't say - I didn't say 'no comment.' I said - I said, 'respectfully, that's not the most appropriate question' and 'can we move to the next person?' And then I turned to the moderator and I said, 'if that person says another f**kin' word, I will walk away from this stage.' And he went, 'mm-hmm, yeah, I got it.'"
CH: "Yeah. That's your reaction. Was way better than a producer that will remain unnamed, who outed me in front of, um, 15 of the major press outlets and then, um, was then, uh, then had to - another producer had to then give 10 exclusive interviews, so that these people wouldn't run an article saying that I was gay... It was like - everyone was waiting. They were just waiting to out me. But, you know - 'cause I had some photos that were out online that I had taken when I was underage and, you know, I just wasn't - I wasn't ready. You have to be ready for something like that."
SA: "When were you ready?"
CH: "I was ready in 2016... It was really random because I was, um, at my doctor's office just for a checkup. And we ended up having this weird, like, therapy session because my doctor's amazing. And I started crying and I was like, 'It's time for me to do this. I need to do this.' He's like, 'How are you - how?' And I was like, 'I don't know.' He's like, 'Do you have a publicist?' And I said, ‘Not at the moment.' And he was like, 'Okay. I have another patient, um, or someone else coming in that could help you.' He steered me in the other room. We had a conversation and then, yeah - then I ended up coming out in, um, in Entertainment Weekly. And then, yeah - and then it was just this magical moment. I was in Paris and I knew the article was coming out. And the reaction was so special to me, because just the peo - so many people were just super, super supportive and it really felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. So, um, yeah, I mean, 'cause we're in 2020 now. It's like, honestly, if you guys don't like, you know, people for being authentic and being their true selves, then I think you need to take an inner look at yourself."

-- Some serious talk about CH's sobriety. He's been sober for two years. SA was supportive during that time.
SA: "Oliver to Roy was like a big brother- little brother thing. And that's not totally our dynamic, but I'm - I'm genuinely proud of you."
CH: "Thank you, Stephen. I appreciate that."

-- SA: "How many episodes of Arrow did you do?"
CH: "I'm going to say, like, 84? 80?"
SA: "F**k. You did 80 episodes."
CH: "I did? Are you serious? ... Like, how - I knew that it was close to 100, but I was just literally throwing numbers out there."

I truly appreciated it when Stephen changed his name to Olicity4eva. With Emily reacting to it with a cute awww sound.

I hope so. I thought the reaction from Emily (who fwiw, was drinking the whole time too) was totally sweet and earnest, but his seemed to have the “I love Olicity” yelling in that TVLine SDCC interview energy. Maybe I just thought that because he was such a grump throughout the whole thing. When he couldn’t get into the first game room he was like “well I’m just going to hang up” and AT had to cajole him to stick it out for only two more questions before they could reset.  It was for charity and he was just going to bail 5 mins in?! It’s a good thing his audio was muted when he first went into the same room as his wife because he looked so pissy at her when she was trying to give him the wired headphones (he ended up just stealing one of her airpods like she predicted). And all the women managed to submit a couple of good zingers during Quiplash but his answers were lame. He also had to get his wife to explain what Kwanza is. All in all, a really poor showing on his part. He seems like a sore loser.

Not knowing what Kwanzaa is is a weird thing to knock him for, especially considering Cassandra's racist bat-eating joke and followup commentary early on in the stream. If anyone's going to get knocked for their cultural remarks, it should be her. Did he make a crappy comment about it or did he just not know what it is?

He does seem like a sore loser and I do think he comes off like an asshole in a lot of these lives, but I also think not understanding the game and being teased about it probably didn't help things.

Also, ETA: I've only seen Stephen be somewhat sarcastic about Olicity/fans once in 8 years of being supportive, so I personally think he deserves the benefit of the doubt for it here.

I'm sure her needling him the whole time, talking about how he always loses when they play Quiplash, and telling him to "Take these and plug them into your computer LIKE AN ADULT" in front of an audience really helped his mood. They both behaved badly and made me think they're one of those couples that bicker and snipe at each other during group events, not caring that they're making everyone uncomfortable.

Colton Haynes was the guest on May 15 - as usual, I only transcribed some of the comments...

How'd You Do It? Episode 13: Colton Haynes
Stephen Amell    May 15, 2020

It was really great to see Colton healthy and at peace. He's been through so much the last couple of years.

Now I want to know who these producers are. My guess is that Berlanti is producer #2.

I already knocked her for that. My point is they both came off poorly. Some Olicity fans on Twitter made it seem like his wife was being the devil while he was just making heart eyes at EBR. They were both pretty terrible, as seems to be the case whenever they do lives together.

You didn't really knock her though, you said she was fine but her bat-eating comment was "a bit 👀." It was racist and she doubled down on it while clearly thinking she made a pretty good joke. I just mentioned it because his behavior got several paragraphs of criticism while hers was lightly addressed even though it was the more problematic behavior between the two of them that night.

Just ETA: I know there's a contingent on Twitter who thinks she's the devil and he's stuck helpless in some kind of awful situation. I think they're equal opportunity antagonistic assholes - he definitely deserves to be criticized for his behavior, but her racist trash "jokes" deserve a full call-out too.

I thought it was racist and terrible. Sorry if that wasn’t clear enough. I also thought it was terrible that EBR and AT laughed at it. That probably deserves a callout too.

Obviously we know nothing about what SA & his wife’s relationship is like on a day-to-day basis but they do seem to bring out the worst in each other when in videos online together. I’m going to assume it’s just the situation and quarantine — I don’t care one way or the other — but it’s so awkward to watch.

Personally I think he and the wife hate each other but that's got nothing to do with him being nice to EBR.

He's pretty nice to Kat, Caity Lotz, JH etc.

His vibes towards the wife are like his vibes towards KC frankly!

SA and the wife remind me of a couple I'm friends with in real life who have absolute contempt for each other but won't divorce because it's bad for the lifestyle. They can't stand each other and always have someone else there to avoid dealing with each other 1 on 1. They are always trying to invite us on double dates, holidays etc (pre Covid19) and have never holidayed alone together in 15 years!

Yes, thank you for bringing it to my attention - I would've gone back and looked if you'd mentioned this awfulness in your original post. I missed it when I watched it because I thought she was laughing at something Aisha said in the background. But she said she was going to make that joke too, and in addition to Aisha, Stephen laughed as well, so we have a whole round of racist garbage reactions. Now everyone is properly chastised for their trash. 😊

It wasn’t my intention to enumerate every single negative thing everyone did in my original post. EBR tried to help SA with his technical issues but she also teased him about it as much as as everyone else and even said “we can play without him.” When I watched it my first reaction was (and continues to be) that they all had some eyebrow-raising moments, but overall SA had more than the rest and a generally petulant attitude, especially for a charity event. YMMV.

I just noticed that whenever Cassandra was criticized for something you replied noting something that someone else did - it seemed as if you wanted to even the score because you think she's unfairly criticized by a certain group of people on Twitter, and were calling me out as if I was intentionally glossing over Emily and Aisha's reaction just to go after Cassandra. I'm perfectly happy to call anyone out on their behavior if I see it!

I don't really have much of an opinion on the behavior on the stream because I only watched about 3 minutes of it. I watched Cassandra's bat-eating joke because I saw some people mention it on Twitter and thought it probably wasn't as bad as it was being portrayed and was surprised that I found it worse (which is probably why I didn't notice the reactions to it). I saw Stephen being frustrated by some teasing because he didn't really understand the game they were playing. My only comment on it was that it didn't seem to help his attitude, which is true no matter who was participating.

I don't really watch any of this stuff because I find Stephen to be all too happy to overshare asshole stories on his own, and I find him and his wife being antagonistic to each other unbearable.

Sorry if it seemed like I was trying to call you out. Not my intention - and neither was it my intention to “even the score” for his wife (someone I don’t particularly care for based on what she presents in things like this). I watched the entire stream live, not just Twitter clips, and was just giving my opinion on the video as a whole, which remains that SA (who actually does know how to play Quiplash and said he’s played it many times before) came off the worst. That’s all.

Are my eyes deceiving me or is KC looking much healthier in that post above? I haven’t played the video because I can’t stand the woman but in the image alone she looks a lot better than recent times. Good for her! She was looking so emaciated for a while there.

Also, I haven’t watched any of that game thing SA & Co took part in but this discussion kinda reaffirms what we’ve known for a while - SA and his wife are a perfect match and deserve each other! 😂

I think the stay at home order is going to be hard on some marriages. SA and CA have always seemed to have some periods of distance. I also think SA is intense, as he’s shown in his reflection on being hard to be around in earlier Arrow seasons. He had a hard time coming down from Arrow, signed a great deal starring in Heals, and now can’t do anything. I think a frustrated SA is a risk.
