Midnight Lullaby January 20, 2018 Share January 20, 2018 I find that guy really arrogant. I wonder how much of the character is the script and how much his own personality. 8 Link to comment
thegirlsleuth January 20, 2018 Share January 20, 2018 (edited) He's the only regular cast member I really dislike--he's self-centered and defensive. I wonder if he's going to enlist the other cast members to defend him from the mean fans this time. His defensiveness makes me think that he/the writers didn't expect viewers to turn so hard against the newbies. Edited January 20, 2018 by thegirlsleuth 9 Link to comment
kes0704 January 20, 2018 Share January 20, 2018 If they didn’t expect or want the reaction they got then something is seriously wrong with their script writing. I don’t see how they could’ve possibly thought fans would seriously struggle to choose between OTA and NoTA. 16 Link to comment
Midnight Lullaby January 20, 2018 Share January 20, 2018 It seems they think having a kid justifies every wrong action. It really doesn’t. 20 Link to comment
Velocity23 January 20, 2018 Share January 20, 2018 I am sure Stephen wasnt pleased when last season fans were using #RIPOliverQueen under anytime he would talk about the show. If you gonna engage with the fandom (i really would not on a platform like twitter) the fans are gonna tell you their thoughts. You just need to explain the POV of your character. 4 Link to comment
Guest January 20, 2018 Share January 20, 2018 RG needs to learn to keep quiet. His attitude in his responses makes things worse, IMO. Link to comment
Morrigan2575 January 20, 2018 Share January 20, 2018 (edited) He shouldn't engage the fandom but isn't this Mica person a known nutjob who picks fights with everyone? At least that's what I've heard. BTW he I right, Rene was kidnapped which is why he missed the hearing to get his daughter back. People should really have their facts straight before attacking others Edited January 20, 2018 by Morrigan2575 Link to comment
Guest January 20, 2018 Share January 20, 2018 Yeah, he's right about that. But the way he responds is not. He could've just said "He was kidnapped so he missed the hearing" but his "Ugh never mind, why do I even bother?" attitude isn't a good way to talk to fans. Even if they are annoying. I totally get being frustrated but there's a way to talk to people on social media and IMO he's not doing it properly. Link to comment
apinknightmare January 20, 2018 Share January 20, 2018 I get that he's feeling defensive - people hating on your character can't be fun. Responding is fine, but maybe don't with the "why do I even bother" and the facepalm emoji. Just correct the person you've decided you want to reply to, or leave it alone. That being said, make sure you have your facts straight before you go in on someone, haha. I kind of want to ask him what he thinks the situation is here - because Rene obviously feels guilty about what he did, because he got Curtis to try and undo it. So, if he feels bad, he knows he did something wrong - why exactly does Rene feel like he deserves Oliver's trust at this point? I know that's more of a question for the writers, but he seems more likely to respond than they do, and maybe someone gave him some convoluted insight into whatever in the hell they were trying to go for (assuming they know what they were going for, which maybe they don't). 4 Link to comment
Midnight Lullaby January 20, 2018 Share January 20, 2018 It’s easy to be gracious towards people who tell him he or his character are wonderful. It’s a lot more telling how you handle attacks or criticism. JH for example in the past replied to fans that attacked her (not just her character) in a polite manner just like she replies to her fans in a polite matter. 6 Link to comment
Chaser January 20, 2018 Share January 20, 2018 How is no one talking about Carly Pope offering to interview him? I LOL'd I'm amazed that Echo and him seem to honestly believe the Newbies are understandable and sympathetic here. 4 Link to comment
LeighAn January 20, 2018 Share January 20, 2018 He such pissy little whiny baby so his character works well for him. I mean I decided to write the guy off when he went on full attack mode then got almost the entire cast to go into attack mode because someone rather imo respectfully pointed out that his quote about the sexual harassment suit against Kreisberg came off like apologist of Kreisberg and he went full on Jerk defensive. He came into the show acting like his character was worth the same amount of popularity and fame as Oliver/Stephen gets out divine right that it must suck that people kind of border on indifference or outright hate of his character. Sucks to be Rick ?♀️ 2 Link to comment

But really, if they're going to engage at all, it would probably be best to do the old - keep watching to see what happens! Defending their character's dickish behavior just makes them look like a dick, too, and they don't have Barrowman's charm to play it off. 8 Link to comment
SmallScreenDiva January 20, 2018 Share January 20, 2018 (edited) Echo might not get how the tide has turned against Curtis. He was well-received in S4 as Felicity's employee. statsgirl January 20, 2018 Share January 20, 2018 I know it's their job to defend their character but there are times when SA has said that Oliver is being a dick when his character was. If Echo realizes that his character is being a whiny baby, he needs to talk about Curtis' sense of loss, giving up his marriage to be on the team and feeling betrayed now that they don't trust him. It would also be helpful if he could address the nanites in the blueberry pancakes last season and why Curtis feels that this is worse. 3 Link to comment
SmallScreenDiva January 20, 2018 Share January 20, 2018 I think the writers forgot about the nanites. 4 Link to comment

In S4 he was a recurring character that we only got in small doses. From S5 onwards he was there all the time in the lair and in the field and a little bit of Curtis goes a looong way. It didn’t help that they had to take away from Felicity’s skill set in order to give him something to do. 10 Link to comment

Popular Post SleepDeprived January 21, 2018 Popular Post Share January 21, 2018 So... I was at HVFF Portland last weekend. Heh. Maybe it was just me but it felt different and odd compared to other HVFFs I've gone to. It just seemed more chaotic and confusing and, also, slightly stiffling. I think it was because it was combined with the Walker Stalker crowd and, boy, that contingent of fans is massive. I think I prefer it when it's just the HVFF crowd because it feels more intimate and comfortable. Although it could've just been me not being too keen about huge crowds. I still enjoyed myself but I just felt like the atmosphere was slightly... off? Anyway, David is still the most fantastic hugger out of everyone. You just feel so warm and safe in his arms. My youngest sister was with me and I told him that I hyped his hugs so much to her. He then readily opened his arms and engulfed her in a super tight embrace (my sister is taller and broader--she actually exercises and lifts--than me but even she looked tiny in his arms) that left her breathless and smiling so broadly. You are welcome, sis. I then tried to ask him what's next for Diggle and he said that Dig gets a new suit. He seemed to think a little harder about what else to say (which leads me to wonder whether Dig might not have a lot of upcoming stuff--in which case, yikes, and also Imma definitely gonna throw eggs at Guggie's car--or he might have been trying not to spoil too much), at which point I prodded if we'll get to see more of his family. He said that there's always Lyla whenever Audrey was free but he really hopes that we'll finally meet his parents then he laughed saying Diggle can't have been hatched from an egg forever. He's very funny and sweet but those are pretty much non-answers, my man. Since his tremor seems to have been fixed, I really do hope there are more storylines that are about him coming his way than just the new suit because David Ramsey deserves all the best things. If David gets the gold medal in hugs, Josh Segarra absolutely deserves the silver. He just squeezes you tightly and smiles at you with his adorable crinkly eyes and engages you in really sincere conversations peppered with "dude" and "man" and/or "cool" every other sentence. He's great. He's a bit bummed that the writers didn't go for his pitch and Vigilante didn't turn out to be Chase's twin and the show went with another dude but he really would love to come back to Arrow as Chase's twin who would be a nice, regular guy that annoys Oliver and plays with his mind because he'd look like Prometheus but is actually a good guy. I suggested that he could be in the crossovers in an alternate universe as Felicity's friend then he perked up and seemed so giddy about possibly being Felicity's boyfriend in an alt-u because that would just mess with Oliver so much and because he'd love to actually get to work more with Emily. He said he and Emily constantly saw each other and would be like (I'm paraphrasing) "Hey, man, what gives? How come we're not doing more stuff together?" He also can operate my sister's iPhone better than I, a lifelong android user, can. Lol. Stephen's a real nice guy. I decided to ask him about the pose I wanted for the Olicity ops at his autograph table because I wasn't sure if he could do it. I asked if he was okay about doing lifts that day (to which his eyebrows rose until I clarified that it wouldn't be me but EBR then he visibly relaxed and smiled) and he said that it depended on the lift. I suggested the Dirty Dancing lift because I had recently watched Crazy Stupid Love but he immediately shut that down. Lol. I wasn't aiming for him to do the actual lift because I don't want to be the cause of any injury to Emily but just the dismount after the lift was done and Ryan Gosling was about to put Emma Stone back down on the ground though I guess I couldn't articulate that well enough. A picture would've probably been helpful at that point. Heh. So I suggested a piggyback pose and he said he could manage that. At the photo ops area, I quickly googled pics of Oliver giving Felicity a piggyback ride and chose to show the first one I found (an Olicity fanart) and he remembered that I had asked and was very enthusiastic about doing it. Now, what can I say about Emily Bett Rickards? Super nice, super warm, super great and super bubbly. She just has an aura about her that is pretty magnetic. She's super sweet and will focus intently on you when you're talking to her that it kinda makes it hard to talk? Because I kinda constantly kept wondering what the heck I was doing and it felt sorta like I was having an out of body experience and I was just watching myself be a dummy. Lmao. I don't even know, man. I imagine how I reacted to/acted around Emily would be exactly how my older sister would be if she ever got to meet Oprah. She loooves Oprah. Anyway, I asked her what places to go to in Vancouver because my youngest sister is planning to drive up there around March and she named 2 places to eat at. But then I guess I looked like I was having a hard time remembering them so she took a post-it and wrote it down for me (I'm actually a smart human being, guys, and scored the highest in my psych class in the memory recall and recognition test we did back then). I really wish that I had read this social media thread, though, before I went up to Emily (y'all had better questions, damn it!) because I couldn't think of an Arrow question and only managed to ask about who she guessed might be the angel investor of Helix Dynamics. She thought about it for a while then I suggested Walter since he's still rich in the Arrowverse and she looked surprised then nodded and told me I could be right. Also, during our photo op, she remembered my name (which, granted, is a pretty unique name that sorta was used as a pun by about 20 of the people I met at the con but Emily remembered who I was so... :)) and that was a cool but not particularly graceful moment for me. Other than the Arrow peeps, Jon Bernthal is a super nice guy and was very grateful about people watching The Punisher. I asked about Karen because I liked the episode that focused mostly on her and he said that Deborah Ann was his girl and he really hopes they bring her back for season 2. According to my sister, he smelled a whiff like alcohol but I thought it was just a very strong cologne. Emma Dumont (from The Gifted) is someone who everyone should go see and have a chat with at future cons. She is extremely talkative and funny and absolutely open to discussing almost anything you can think of (she loves to binge shows and one of her favorites is Black Mirror with Black Museum being her favorite from the latest season and White Bear and Shut Up and Dance being the ones that messed her up so bad). She was very gleeful about my opinion that their storylines were more interesting than the Strucker family's and she even called Jamie Chung over so I could repeat verbatim what I told her and so she can laugh some more. My sister was so charmed by Emma that she has now started watching The Gifted. Jamie Chung is sweet but a bit more reserved. I think she said this was one of her first cons and that's why she was a little nervous. Ming-Na Wen remembered me from Atlanta and I suggested that she take a picture with Jamie since Emma had been talking about how both Jamie and Ming played Mulan. On the Walker Stalker side, most of the cast who I met was very lovely. Steven Yeun is my favorite because he's a cool dude and he suggested a pretty good restaurant to have dinner at in Portland. It was good food, man. Christian Serratos was open and pretty friendly. Tom Payne is funny (he wrote "Jesus loves you" on my auto pic) and a great selfie taker. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is really charming, would love to continue playing Batman's dad if DC ever goes to that storyline in Flashpoint, and had the longest lines, IMO, for both autographs and photo ops. One of the staff in his booth said that he had stayed to sign until around 10pm on a Saturday at a previous con and they still didn't get to everyone. His lines were insanely ridiculous. Also, like, people were legit sobbing crying after meeting him. Chandler Riggs seemed nervous as heck and said that it really wasn't his call to leave the show. He would've wanted to stay on because he grew up around those sets. Ross Marquand is a gentleman who offered his own (unopened) bottle of water to the lady in front of me when she got choked up meeting him. He, also, doesn't own a car and prefers to bike everywhere. Don't quote me on this because I really don't want his stans to come after me or to start whatever rumors but Norman Reedus smelled a lot like alcohol (the stronger spirits like whiskey or tequilla) but, to be fair, I probably might indulge in a drink or two as well if I had to deal with as many people as he did. He had the second longest lines, from what I could see. Oh, also, Emily and her friend were hanging around Norman's area just before the Olicity ops. I don't know if they got a pic with him but if they did, it'd be cute if she or HVFF posts it. Anyway, this con was interesting. I had fun but it just felt different. There were legit police presence all around the con. EBR had an actual Portland PD sergeant (nice guy, smiled a bit but was mostly silent) guarding her at her booth and shadowing her all over. So did JDM, actually. They were the only 2 actors that had real cops guarding them, that I saw. I'm not sure about Norman but I think the big guy that's usually around EBR's table was the one with him. And I've rambled on quite a bit so, without further ado: Fun Fact about this one: Emily was on her tiptoes because Stephen lifted her just a little bit off the ground during this hug but the overworked photographer didn't capture the full body pic which is a shame. This is an OTA pic wherein I said "Hello" to Emily in a high-pitched tone because she called me by name then I made a beeline toward David Ramsey and immediately hugged him before Stephen could even say "Hi," which is why I think he made that face. Heh. I'm sorry I sort of ignored you, Stephen. I didn't mean to. As always, if any PTV member wants to post the Olicity pics on any social media to share it with the fandom, go right on ahead. Credit goes to this here Arrow boards, please. Just doing my part in my civic duty of unpaid publicity for Arrow. ;) 34 Link to comment

MissL January 21, 2018 Share January 21, 2018 Thanks for the recap! Interesting. I just bought a ticket for HVFF Chicago and it's combined with Walker Stalker so your comment on it being more crowded is too bad. I bought on a whim because I saw tickets for half off and thought "why not?" But I'm probably going by myself and I can't decide whether to plop down $80 for an SA photo op or not and hope there is enough going on without that and that I can wander around by myself without feeling weird and out of place. I've only been to two fan conventions in the past (XFiles and another comic con in Chicago) but never alone. Oh well! Guess I'll find out! I was a walking dead fan so at least I'll be amongst my peeps. Link to comment
