Whoa, I wonder if some vote splitting went down with the The Normal Heart guys.  I heard that Matt Bomer was especially great in it.  I mean, I do think Martin Freeman is amazing with the material he is given, but I wouldn't have pegged him winning.  I'm curious over how Best Actor will play out, because maybe some are throwing him votes here, instead of there.

Glad Fargo won directing, at least.

"I just forget about it." Oddly enough, I can't even tell you the setup to the joke. But the day I decide I want to get blitzed, it needs to be with those two.

I'm surprised at how bad The Normal Heart is faring. 4 out of 6 actors in the same category and they still lost? HBO really made a mistake with not submitted True Detective in mini series.

I guess the academy like Ryan Murphy if he's doing the weird stuff on AHS. On a straightforward drama, not so much.

Honestly, I think they are purposely ignoring The Normal Heart.  This is making me sad

That actually occurred to me as well, and yes. It's disappointing.

I really wanted to see Matt Bomer win for his role, and I guess all of the nominees from TNH could have split the vote, but it really does seem odd that not one award so far has gone to the movie.

Overall the show has been pretty funny as far as the skits go.

Damn, now Benedict Cumberbatch?  I guess voters just felt like it was the year to give him and Martin his due.  Would have preferred a Fargo win, but I won't complain too much.

I felt like it wasn't a mistake that they had Matthew and Woody present in this category, with the controversy over True Detective should have been submitted in the miniseries category instead of drama.

Let me put it this way. The world has gotten more tolerant and progressive, but I think in old institutions like the Emmys, it likes the APPEARANCE of progress, hence the nominations, but the end result is an attitude still back eons ago. Probably afraid to offend a subset of viewers by voting for that, whether it's fair or not.

That's as delicately as I can explain/put it.

I think you explained it perfectly, and that's what I was thinking as well. That's why it's disappointing... they can say "But what's the problem? We NOMINATED them so many times!".

Someone over on the Broadway board I frequent suggested that maybe it's not The Normal Heart, but Ryan Murphy that the voters don't like.  Possibly.

But he (or his actors) have won for other things. I'd say it's more likely that they don't like Kramer. That I could believe.
