If* there is a 2nd part of AYITL I firmly believe that Lorelai & Rory's relationship will be as bad or worse then Emily & Lorelai's in S1.

I think that that would bring the story full circle for sure.  Their relationship is massively unhealthy.  Lorelai taught her daughter to be as self-absorbed and selfish as she is.  Which, of course, she learned from the master: Emily.

I don’t think they would go for another few episodes. Unless there’s no work for Lauren or  Alexis.  Which, judging from some comments I’ve read elsewhere, it’s a wonder both ever found jobs in the industry again. 😳😳

ASP/DP love that full circle.

I’m sure it’s nothing that hasn’t been known before: how both Graham and Bledel treated the background actors horribly, worse than trash.  At some point when lunch was called, Graham said something like look at the roaches, going strait for the food  something to that effect, referring to the background actors.
Graham bitching out the hair dresser because her hair wasn’t quite right on a horribly humid day.

how there was a blind item, yes, I know, not very reliable, about someone acting so, so horrible to cast and crew on a show they were guest starring in that at the end she was written off in a most horrible way, even though she was contracted to film several more  episodes.

stuff like that.  😬😬

Why? Their relationship is nowhere near as bad as Emily and Lorelai's, and that one was damaged a lot when Lorelai disappeared at 16 with a new kid. Rory on the other hand will probably want as much of Lorelai's help as possible.

Because ASP adores "the full circle."
Also in an interview soon after AYITL Amy talked about Lorelai & Rory's relationship changing post-baby and not for the better.
Sad to say I can not find that interview.

Thanks, I didn't know that. What I can see is maybe the opposite of Emily and Lorelai. Lorelai wanted to be completely independent from her parents and raised her child on her own (while I am no fan of Emily, I can see that she was hurt by the fact that she didn't get to see Rory for years and maybe also scorned that Lorelai managed to do it on her own). With Rory, I can imagine that she would in contrast rely too much on Lorelai, basically co-parenting with her and Lorelai being a little disappointed that Rory is not so self-reliant as she was, despite being twice as old.

Make sense.
I do believe that eventually Rory will grow up and become a good mother. I can see her being single for life to.

Sorry, SJC, but I’m team Dean all the way.  And not because Jared was absolutely gorgeous and so, so young. 😛

Realistically, though, none of the three are who she should’ve ended up with.
Her other half is out there somewhere still, I guess.

Heehee....Jared is adorable. :-)

Her other half is floating around somewhere maybe.  lol

Just watching right now and in the early episodes Dean was certainly a reader.  He and Rory read all sorts of things.  Hell, they got into massive trouble when they fell asleep reading a book.

Then, when super special Jess comes into the picture he becomes the super smart reader that has so much in common with the golden child.

Such bs. I hate that Jess asks Rory what her and Dean talk about, such retconning. The fact she doesn’t answer and just hems and haws is even more ridiculous 😡😡

Okay, I've read all that. 😊
If true, how awful !!

Is it an unpopular opinion to NOT be team Dean, team Jess or team Logan ? That's the boat that I'm in.

I think it is. Most fans seem to be team one of them. I'm not team any of them. I did like Dean in season one but didn't think they'd end up together. He was the first boyfriend and they didn't really have much in common. I hated Jess and Logan. They were both crappy people. Rory also at many times was a crappy girlfriend. Mooning over Jess while refusing to break up with Dean. Talking about how great Dean was when she was with Jess but refusing to do anything normal like talk to Jess (I did like the scene where she did leave that message on Luke's answering machine but she then told Jess to erase it without listening to it.). Rory sleeping with a married Dean and then mooning over Logan but not breaking up with Dean. I hated Jess and Logan equally. Rory was definitely her most spoiled brat with Logan. Logan did have some growth in season seven but Amy undid that in the revival. He was back to crappy person he was when he met him. Rory of course continued to be worse by cheating on Paul with Logan because she couldn't be bothered to break up with him and cheating on both with the wookie. Also, Rory being shocked when Logan treated her like mistress at one point. You are one Rory.

While Jess was much improved in the revival Rory was terrible and I didn't want Jess or anyone to end up with her.

If Rory hadn't been so terrible and Jess hadn't been so crappy when they were dating. I just don't see them ending up together. Rory wanted to go out in the world and explore it. I don't think Jess really ever did. They would still have gone their separate ways. I don't really think Rory ever met "the one" yet.

I hated how Rory was in her relationships but I did like the period when she and Dean were friends and that she and Jess became friends. I wish she hadn’t cheated with Dean so they could have maintained that friendship.

I wish she hadn't either. I liked the "ending" we had for Rory and Dean at the end of season three when Rory gives him the catalog to pick out a wedding gift. It was a good ending.  They were both going off to college and Dean was getting married. I hated that they ruined it.

Lorelei and Rory are always eating out. Where do they get the $ ? And if they ate all that junk they’d be obese and low energy.

They never seem to not have $. Lorelei runs an inn I doubt she was making much. Spoiled brat Rory never has a job. Jess and Dean work why not Rory?

This show on a rewatch is so so dumb and unrealistic. I’m up to season 4…

How did I watch this crap show originally?

Lorelei is annoying beyond belief… I hate her. Suki is even worse. Her character needs to chill out and have a cookie with some medications…

My dog I cannot believe I am watching it again.

Paris was insane. Not one person would be friends with that control freak. And she had sex before Rory. Yeah right. Paris would die alone as a virgin in real life.

It's damaged in a different way.  Lorelei selfishly raised her daughter not to become self sufficient.  And it isn't healthy to be your kids best friend.

Emily and Lorelei fought and communicated...so I think their relationship improved.

I’m rewatching so I can make fun of how unrealistic/ridiculous this show was

I get it. Since I first watched GG in 2015, I've changed my opinions several times. Only recently have I watched some and thought, "This has so many glaring problems. Why am I watching it?"

My current answer for myself is that I enjoy some of the characters and their moments are fun and worth rewatching. I'm still enjoying Fanfiction and have warmed up to the Scott Patterson podcast. I love the many insights the multi-faceted team has.

One example from the podcast is how much is Paris like Emily? Quite a bit, IMO, and how does that impact Rory to have 3 women constantly guiding her? No wonder she drifts through life. She's lost.

Well, to be fair, she was probably the only one in the entire show to get exactly what she wanted.

She was going to be a doctor and she was.  An apparently super successful fertility doctor at that.  Two adorable kids and she ended up with her true love.  I call that a win in my book.

I think another massive failure at life was Lane, my god that women couldn’t catch a break.  Her mother, in trying to keep her in check, only did incredible damage.  A musician? A rock band?  Really?  Gets pregnant (with twins!!) right after first-time sex? Did she ever graduate college? She’s a waitress forever now?

Ugh, I guess every other character in this show was an afterthought.  It was always about the spoilt golden child and her even more self-centered mom and grandma.

I would say that apart from getting pregnant so young (don't get me started on unplanned pregnancies on this show), she was relatively happy with her life. She didn't seem interested much in going to college from what I remember, she had some success with their band which was important to her and she seemed fine with marrying young (I rolled my eyes at her waiting for sex till marriage, but it was her decision, even if influenced by her mother's cult). And she managed to keep her relationship with her mother on her terms, after her secrets were exposed (again, I would have preferred if she ditched her horrible mother altogether, but for Lane it seemed important, so I accept her decision).

I guess you’re  right about that, but we really didn’t get her thoughts about that, I mean, she was really freaking out when she found out she was pregnant, with twins.

I’m comparing her, unfairly perhaps, to the golden child, heck,  and even my life in that school was the most important thing, 🤷🏻‍♀️

One of the most glaring, truly horrible evidence of Lorelei’s selfishness was on display:  when dear old Fran dies and Sooki and Lorelei are bugging one of the nephews, WHILE HES CARRYING HER CASKET! about the inn!!   They’re insane!

They’re truly, truly horrible people.

Also glad Dean told the golden child the truth about how horrible Jess treats her.  Dumb cow.

Guess it's finally time for me to bow out of this subforum. There's only so much shitting on a show I love that's been my comfort watch, that I can take. Have fun, everyone!

Aww... Don't go. I love this show too. "Comfort watch" is a perfect way to describe the show for me too. We fans need to stick together. Unpopular opinions in my mind tend to team Jess, Dean, or Logan, but I guess those who just don't like the show or characters have found a place to post. /Sigh.

It’s kind of funny to see how dating Jess ended up being such a massive failure for the golden child.

It calls to mind that saying about a bird in the hand and all that.

There’s a saying in Spanish also about not eating honey anymore in order to eat 💩

Jess' actions weren't her fault. That relationship wasn't her failure, it was his. She moved on.

that's one of my favourite scenes. It always cracks me up.

Yes, that's hilarious.  I also love the scene where they find it and Jess is astounded that someone would go to the trouble to make devilled eggs to throw at his car (which, of course, they didn't).

I actually don't think Jess had done anything to deserve the devilled egging, but as a TV show scene, it's quite funny.
