Since many of us have tons of justifiable complaints and snark about the show that we vent elsewhere, here's a place to praise and fondly recall the scenes and episodes that make you happiest. Which 10-15 episodes do you find the most funny/fun/generally mood lifting???

Mystery Spot

Tall Tales

Changing Channels

Frontierland

The Monster At The End of This Book

Weekend at Bobby's

Clap Your Hands if You Believe

Fan Fiction

That's from memory but I think it hits the ones that lift me up with a smile.

Yellow Fever

Mystery Spot

Dog Dean Afternoon -Dean playing fetch will forever be one of the stupidest funniest things this show has done.

Hollywood Babylon

Frontierland

And then random stuff like

Blade Runners : "You just gonna let Hell go to Hell?!"

                            "Not Moose"

For starters.

I love everything you guys have brought up so far! Some random scenes to leap to mind:

Sam posing as a sketch artist in Bedtime Stories and the patient's face when he beholds Sam's 'expert' drawing

Dean's "we're here to hug!" when the boys pose as grief counselors

The camera panning back to reveal that Dean and a very nervous Sam are dressed as priests

...clearly, I'm way too amused by the boys posing as something other than hunters :)

Yellow Fever

I love that I'm not the only one who finds parts of this episode hilarious!

I also find Bad Day at Black Rock amusing (the previously mentioned "I lost my shoe..." is classic, as is the "don't play with my Jesus", the picture at Biggersons and so much more)

I think parts of Slash Fiction and Plucky Pennywhistle are among the show's funniest as well. I also find parts of Season Seven Time for a Wedding far funnier and more enjoyable than I should because...well, I think I just have terrible taste :)

Tall Tales might still be my pick for all-time funniest for me, but I rewatched it to the point where I'm a tad sick of it by now!

Other episodes to leap to mind: The Real Ghostbusters, Clap Your Hands if You Believe and Fan Fiction.

There are a bunch of S1-S3 episodes that make me smile and boost my mood, but not because they're especially funny---just because they make me nostalgic and have that infectiously fun thrill of adventure that is missing from a lot of the angstier and heavier episodes later on.

I'm actually surprised no one's mentioned Changing Channels or The French Mistake yet. I happen not to love those episodes, but I always had the impression that most fans would name them as among the funniest/most fun episodes of the series.

I love so many of these mentioned - Mystery Spot, Hollywood Babylon, Bad Day..., Changing Channels ("Should I honk?"), The French Mistake, The Real Ghostbusters, Frontierland ("That poor horse."), Monster at the End..., Tall Tales, Slash Fiction (Chet!), Plucky Pennywhistle's..., Clap Your Hands..., Dog Dean Afternoon (I agree with catrox on that fetch scene), Weekend At Bobby's, and Fan Fiction.

Some other favorite episodes or scenes of mine not mentioned yet and why they make me smile (In chronological order)...

Ghostfacers - I know a lot of people dislike this episode, but it never fails to make me smile. From the opening homage to Buffy, to the theme song, to the fake slow mo, these jerks amuse me so much. Plus Sam in that ridiculous party hat will never not be funny to me.

Wishful Thinking - despite some squicky themes, there is also some comedy gold in here for me - "For Tea Parties!" (duh), suicidal giant teddy bears, and "Kneel before Todd!"

Monster Movie - the vampire escaping on a moped  (meep meep) and "I have a coupon"

I Believe The Children Are Our Future - The giant tooth fairy, Dean's look after "And don't use my razor", action figure Cas

Sam, Interrupted - The beginning scenes with the psychiatrist, Ted ("You know what else isn't good for group? A monster eating our faces off!"), and "Pudding!"

Hammer of the Gods - "please be tomato soup. please be tomato soup." , the whole "Holy crap!" exchange, Kali ("no"), and Gabriel

How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters - stoned Dean, the enraged waiter, Ranger Rick

Out With the Old - This episode amuses me probably way more than it should almost from beginning to end (except the last scene : ( ). Love Dean and his attraction to the dancing shoes, "how does old porn kill?", Frank ("None taken, Fudge pop", "Can a dog play poker?"), the arrogant leviathan Joyce and her assistant George, the barista exchange (Barista: "How bout you eat me?" George: "Don't tempt me. You're lucky I'm late." Barista: "So Lucky. Next!"  - it's in the delivery), Sam and the gramophone kid, ("Lucky for you, I'm too tired"). For some reason a lot of the characters and dialogue in this episode really amused me.

Everybody Hates Hitler - Aaron and the Golem and my funniest scene from the whole season: Sam warming his hands over the burning corpse with Aaron saying "Oh my God. These guys are psychopaths."

Ask Jeeves - there were a few amusing scenes here for me

That's more than enough for now, I think,

Two scenes in The French Mistake: the whole scene leading up to "You married fake Ruby?" And the whole "Sam and Dean try to act" bit leading to "who wrote this? Nobody says penultimate!"

I always laugh in Yellow Fever when the camera pans down to the Yorkie in the pink bow.

When Sam asks what the little boy is afraid of in Plucky Pennywhistle and when he learns it's a 2story robot nods and says "at least I'll see it coming".

Most of Monster Movie.

Sam, Interrupted - The beginning scenes with the psychiatrist

Oh my god, YES---this is literally among my favorite scenes of the entire series. The dialogue is pitch perfect.

Out With the Old

I know, right?! One major reason I hold the very UO of loving S7: It's (arguably!) got some of the funniest moments/episodes of the entire show.

Okay from the vault of funny things in soul destroying episodes.

From the gut-wrenching Dream a Little Dream of Me...(Deannn...nooooooo /gross sobbing):

Sam: " unless we can score some African dream root...."

Dean:(exasperated )"Crap.  Bela."

Sam: "Bela? Crap." (defeated)

I have watched that clip too many times and every single time I guffaw with that exchange. It's all in the performances.

From Book of the Damned:

Metatron: (pigging out on waffles)Oh.  Em. ME!....(I hate Metatron but holy crap that made me laugh)

Cas:  "Can I kill him now?"

From Fan Fiction: All the scenes of Dean reacting to every thing with 1000% done-ness. But I think my favorite part is his head bobbing to the song about his cursed family.  Oh gods.  I just died with that one.

From: Riechenbach and Inside Man: Crowley's pitchfork in his foo-foo drink.

From: Inside Man:

The entire scene of Dean screwing with Sam's stuff in his room.  GOLD just comedy GOLD.

Dean: "That's a very touching story. I think I have a little tear in my eye" (Jensen pointing to his eye with that satisfied grin kills me)

Dean: Foofing up his hair, winking at the bartender and playing drunk!Dean to hustle those douchebags that are messing with Dean's watering hole, (HE HAS A WATERING HOLE NOW, where he knows the bartenders name!) /heart eyes .  That will always be funny to me and warms my heart to see Dean being Dean.

The Werther Project:

Dean's 'Dwight Twilley" bit.  The way he just raises his voice and acts all freaked out slays me.  It's just a moment of perfection. Dean has always been a great actor and a terrible liar. Oh and Dean covering up his bits! /dead

First Born:

So much great snark, I could quote the entire episode.

Crowley: "This is by FAR the worst idea you have EVER had"

Dean: "Yeah, well. It's early"

Dean: "Well, I don't want to get between you and the demonic AARP"

Sam: "You're a terrible liar"

Cas: "That is not true. I once deceived and betrayed both you and your brother" (me: /dies laughing)

Cas: 'You have a guinea pig? Where!?"

So much goodness.  I'll be back with more.

I've said it before elsewhere, but the "Wishful Thinking" scene with the boys meeting Audrey and the Teddy Bear owns my heart for bizarre cheerfulness. I went through a rough period when all I wanted to do was lay on my bed in a fetal position all the time, and every time I would do that I would watch that scene and it would make me feel better.

The first half of "Mystery Spot" is another favorite, as well as Dean throughout most of "Fan Fiction".

Some moments that are just oddly hilarious to me are:

  • the boys first scene in "Sam, Interrupted"
  • the convo that the boys have in "Plucky Pennywhistle's" that starts with the ballwasher joke and ends with Shark Tank
  • Castiel's appearance with the sandwiches of solidarity in "Survival of the Fittest"
  • Maeve's deadpan reaction to Sam's "strange noises" question in "Fan Fiction"

These all hit my funny bone at just the right spot.

When Sam asks what the little boy is afraid of in Plucky Pennywhistle and when he learns it's a 2story robot nods and says "at least I'll see it coming".

This scene was great. I love deadpan Sam.

Also from that episode: In addition to Random Me's Shark Week exchange, I love: Sam: "Wait, so now unicorns are evil?" Dean: "Yeah. Obviously." Hee.

I think the most I ever laughed out loud though was the aforementioned "Should I honk?" That caught me off guard, and I almost missed what happened afterwards because I was laughing so hard.

I know, right?! One major reason I hold the very UO of loving S7: It's (arguably!) got some of the funniest moments/episodes of the entire show.

I agree. Somehow despite the depression and Sam's crazy, the guys managed to have some fun in that season and some of the most fun episodes of the series for me... and more than usual: Slash Fiction, How to Win Friends..., Plucky Pennywhistle's..., Out With the Old..., and even parts of Season 7, Time For a Wedding. Even some of the more serious episodes had some moments of fun - like the whole scene in Meet the New Boss where they break into that couple's home and call up Death and Hello Cruel World's "This conversation does not require a weapons discharge." Sam's "He broke my spoon" from The Mentalists. Oh, and Kevin's introduction, and Sam trying to get the tablet away from him and Kevin insisting he couldn't let it go. Oh, and the moment where poor Dean describes Cas arriving naked and covered in bees on the hood of his beloved Baby - hee. Any scene with Frank - one of my favorites being him smashing up Sam's computer and giving him a new one with Sam's deadpan "Thank you." And the numerous Dick jokes always amused me as well. (Sometimes I'm 12.) I just love season 7.

Metatron: (pigging out on waffles)Oh.  Em. ME!....(I hate Metatron but holy crap that made me laugh)

Mom and I watched this last night - her for the first time - and we both laughed at that. She thought Metatron was very amusing.

And I actually thought Dick himself was kind of hilarious...I have a rather warped sense of humor :)

I just love season 7.

Refer to my screen name! ((That's my awkward way of saying 'amen, sister friend!')

To go along with catrox's theme of somewhat heavy episodes with really funny moments: A Very Supernatural Christmas! So much sadness there, but so much humor as well. I love the sugary sweet, ultra-suburban yet deliciously evil pagan gods, and it cracks me up when, upon being told that only kids under 12 can hang out with 'Santa', Sam's earnest "no, he's just kidding, we only came here to watch!" is met with a look of profound disgust from the staff member, who now thinks our boys have an unhealthy interest in kids. Did I mention that my sense of humor is kind of warped?!

Charlie (sp?!) isn't a favorite of mine, but The Girl with the D&D Tattoo and LARP and The Real Girl had a few amusing moments as well for me.

And Dean's excitement to be back in the 1940s in Time After Time (an awesome episode, IMO!) amuses and delights me to no end, especially as it's such a refreshing break from the wholly understandable but depressing grief over Bobby.

Ooooh, can I play?  Just a few off the top of my head.

"It's like eating self righteousness" - Slash Fiction.  Leviathan Sam and Dean mocking real Sam and Dean damn near made me pee myself, I laughed so hard.

"I lost my shoe" - Bad Day at Black Rock.  Sam's face of woe and Dean's exasperated eyeroll will never not be funny, and the physical comedy in that ep was terrific.

"AIEEEEIIIEEEEEIIIE!!!.  That was scary!" - Yellow Fever.  I have a lot of issues with this ep, but Jensen's utterly over the top howling when he is startled by the cat in the locker was balls out hysterical.  And of course, at the end, we are blessed with his lipsync to "Eye of the Tiger".  (They should play that clip on the new Lip Sync Battles show)

"...but you didn't shoot the deputy." - Jus In Bello.  Sam's epic bitchface at Dean's being utterly unable to hold back the joke just slays me.

And one of my favourite moments in the whole series, Dean lip syncing to "All Out of Love".  HIs little head bob to  the DUH DUH was just perfect.

Heh---it always takes me over an hour to rewatch Slash Fiction because there are so many scenes that I just have to pause and rewind every...single...time. Even the "Chatty Cathy" who Bobby's stuck with throughout that episode amuses me.

Parts of Sin City are surprisingly funny as well, like the scenes with Richie and Sam's mortification at being caught in that guy's (Trotter's...?) office and throwing holy water on him. Hmmm...I seem to have a disproportionate amount of S3 and S7 scenes/episodes on my lists so far :)

I recently rewatched S2 and, in addition to the obvious picks like Tall Tales and Hollywood Babylon, there are parts of Nightshifter and Folsom Prison Blues that still amuse me every single time. I love how Sam's cellmate just keeps staring at him "in a way that makes me really...uneasy."

Thanks to everyone who's chimed in so far---this thread really cheers me up!

In Hollywood Babylon, after Dean dispatches one of the ghosts, the guy says, "You're one hell of a PA!" and Dean says, "I know."  The delivery of both lines was perfection.  And hilarious.  Dog Dean Afternoon was really uneven and they packed all the jokes in the middle, but I just about died laughing at Dean hanging out the window and looking back at the Colonel as if to say, Isn't this great dude?  Then when I thought I might stop laughing Dean saw that poodle.  That sexy poodle.  Yowsa!  Nearly choked on laughing so hard.  JA really throws himself into the role.  And I second the "All out of Love" lip synch.  And the terrible, terrible acting they tried to do in their "actors" places in French Mistake. ETA:  In Wishful Thinking when the teddy blew its stuffing out.  That was right up there with Angel's Smile Time for deranged.  I loved it.

I know I'm very late to this challenge, but I wanna play too!

It's the little things for me...

  • Bloody Mary: Where Sam wakes up from a nightmare and Dean is sitting by his bed. Sam says "why'd you let me fall asleep" and Dean replies with, "Because I'm an awesome brother."
  • Nightshifter: Ronald, with the laser eyes! But also since I tend to use the phrase "Okie dokie" a lot, I love the exchange about how Dean likes the guy who says that, but will also stab him in his heart if he's the shifter.
  • Tall Tales: Well, the whole damn thing! I especially adore Bobby's "You're breaking my heart" at the end, though.
  • Folsom Prison Blues: Dean commenting on how he's "velvety smooth" and Sam asking if he wants to continue to pat himself on the back or open the letter.
  • Dream A Little Dream of Me: Because the art department was obviously doing shrooms throughout S3
  • Mystery Spot: Kim Manners was a genius and did I mention how I think the art department was doing shrooms?
  • Lazarus Rising: Bobby splashing Dean with holy water.
  • Yellow Fever: When Sam uses his freakishly long legs to kick Dean tell him to stop picking at the road rash.
  • Wishful Thinking: Suicidal Teddy and Audrey!
  • Jump The Shark: Rock, Paper, Scissors!
  • Sam Interrupted: "My brother isn't evil, he was just high." Cracks me up every damn time!
  • Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid: Bobby asking Dean if he ever gets tired of being wrong.
  • Hammer of the Gods: Dean's bluster and bravado and insulting a whole room of gods.
  • Clap Your Hands if You Believe: Fairy lady.
  • Hello, Cruel World: Dean telling Sam that Lucifer wasn't real and Sam replying "he says the same thing about you." How does one argue with that?
  • Pluck Pennywhistle's Magical Menagerie: Ball washer and Shark Week exchange.
  • Everybody Hates Hitler: Sam warming his hands over the grave while Adam says they're crazy!
  • Dog Dean Afternoon: Dean playing fetch.
  • Fan Fiction: Dean's insistence there is no singing in Supernatural and Sam playing with the sound board.

There's so much more, but you guys have already touched on most of those. Yes, I do realize I repeated quite a few, sometimes the smiling bears repeating.

The scene when they're leaving the bank.  The song Renegade is playing in the background and there's this long pause while Sam and Dean contemplate what just happened.

"We are so screwed".

Pretty much anything with The Trickster/Gabriel in it.

The French mistake. Pretty much all of it.

Dean: Why would anybody want to watch our lives?
Sam: Well, according to the interviewer, not very many people do.

I almost forgot.  Castiel's soliloquy in The Man Who Would Be King.  I liked all of it, but the lines about the fish and the Tower of Babel really stood out for me.

"Don't step on that fish, Castiel, big plans for that fish."

"I remember the Tower of Babel - all 37 feet of it, which I suppose was impressive at the time. And when it fell they howled, "Divine Wrath!" But come on, dried dung can only be stacked so high."

I don`t like humiliation humor, especially if it`s mean-spirited so Yellow Fever is a no-go for me. But I adore Monster Movie, the black and white episode. It had so many funny little tidbits, especially if you watched old gothic horror flicks. Changing Channels had a couple of hilarious TV parodies. Hollywood Babylon was meta in a fun, non-obtrusive way. And Bad Day at Black Rock has some charming slapstick and gentle fun. That one, I like.

However, one of the most unintentionally funny scenes in the whole show is somewhere in a very early episode, maybe Hookman or Bugs. Where they park their car on a totally empty street, right next to a fire hydrant. When they filmed this scene, did the director say: "you know what? to show how big of outlaws you are now, you will park in the one spot you shouldn`t, even though you could literally and lawfully park EVERYWHERE else". Why?

I loved the Holy water in the face running gag. It never fails to make me laugh as was funny until he became an actual demon:( and now I don't think it will be funny henceforth. ( although the SPN parody made funny use if it.) but we'll see. I mean I'll still laugh at the past uses of it for comedy but I think it kind of has to be tabled now.

Hollywood Babylon and the producer? of the bad horror movie getting ripped apart by giant fans. Now that is subtle humor to me.

Besides Dean and the defiant hydrant parking, I also love a scene in Shadows when Sam watches Meg`s apartment (with binoculars I think) to check out if she is possibly evil. Only she is undressing and some woman passing by on the street sees him and gives him that "pervert" look. And he is like "whut? why? no." The episode overall is not my thing but this is comedy gold.

Changing Channels and Monster Movie are among my top funniest overall. If you watch a lot of TV and movies, there are so many little nods.

Ha! I love you guys for answering, and not purely because I happen to agree with many of the episodes you all selected :) As always, this is harder than expected, but I find this type of torture fun, so...

S1: Pilot, Scarecrow, Benders, Hell House (Honorable mention to S1 Episodes I Love That Most Understandably Dislike, like Bugs, Phantom Traveler, etc.!)

S2: Crossroad Blues, Born Under a Bad Sign, Tall Tales, Hollywood Babylon (This season is especially tough for me not just because there are a lot of great episodes to choose from, but because some of the episodes I objectively think are among the best of the whole series, like In My Time of Dying and What is and Never Should Be, are not necessarily the ones I find myself wanting rewatch the most often because they kind of emotionally drain me!)

S3: Bad Day at Black Rock, A Very Supernatural Christmas, Mystery Spot, Long Distance Call (I have odd taste!)

S4: In the Beginning, Yellow Fever (I know...I know), Wishful Thinking, It's a Terrible Life

S5: The Real Ghostbusters, Sam Interrupted (There are a lot of good ones here, just not many that I'm personally attached to for whatever odd combination of reasons!)

S6: Weekend at Bobby's, Clap Your Hands If You Believe, Appointment in Samarra (arguably among the very best post-S3 episodes of the series IMO...and, um, have I mentioned I have weird taste?!), My Heart Will Go On, Frontierland (Whenever we do these lists I realize that I like S6 a little more than I think I do---or at least dislike it a lot less than I think I do :)

S7: Meet the New Boss, Slash Fiction, Season 7 Time for a Wedding, Time After Time, (sorry, guys----I can't help but loving it despite totally understanding why many don't!), Plucky Pennywhistle...Honestly, despite some glaring missteps, I really like S7 a lot.  It's a sickness :)

S8:  Everybody Hates Hitler, Hunteri Heroici, LARP and The Real Girl

S9: Road Trip and First Born maybe...?!

S10: Fan Fiction, Ask Jeeves, Hibbing 911

And you know that now I have to ask about which 10-15 episodes you'd select as all-time favorites, regardless of season :)

Here's a fun one---since most of the positive focus is usually on S1-S5, what would you guys name as your seven or so favorite S6-S10 episodes?!

I already know that Slash Fiction and Fan Fiction both make my list, so apparently I'm a sucker for similarly named episodes :)

After reading all the angry comments on the"Brother's Keeper" thread, I need something to smile about.  So, my feel good moments from S11:

  • Form and Void:  Sam pulling all the things off the shelves at the hardware store, building a homemade taser, and using a bucket to amplify the sound from his phone.  Then when an infected shows up:  "Can you talk?  Or are you too far gone"  "What?"  ZAP. "Good answer."
  • Baby:  The entire episode.  Highlights for me: Dean checking out Piper in the car not once but twice, putting on "Night Moves", and Sam playing along by singing altered lyrics.  The girls taking Baby out for a joyride and doing donuts in the dirt (I personally think Baby had fun).  Dean slamming the lid down on the growling cooler saying "I can explain that... or maybe not".  Bonus badass StuntDriving!Dean with the 180.
  • Plush:  Has one of my favorite Dean moments.  When Donna is telling them about the killer bunny whose head won't come off, Dean says to her, "But if you've got a wild hare..."  Sam makes his 'OMG you didn't just say that' face, but Donna laughs at his joke, and Dean's face just lights up.  He NEVER gets anyone (especially Sam) to laugh at his jokes
  • The Devil in the Details:  When Lucifer turns on the music, then grins and starts dancing, and Dean's 'WTF is this crap he's insane' look.  Takes me back to "Is this a fight?  Are we in a fight?"
  • Into the Mystic:  Mildred getting Dean to sit on the couch to appreciate the sunset
  • Don't You Forget About Me:  The dinner scene.  Not so much for the stuffing their faces with food (which I think was overplayed), but the birth control conversation.  Sam looks extremely uncomfortable, while Dean sits back to watch the show.  His final comment to Claire "This is fun" has her laughing and nodding in agreement, while Sam gives Dean the stare of death
  • Love Hurts:  Dean winning at Rock Paper Scissors and being so pleased he doesn't even care Sam goes upstairs.  The cash getting left under the cinder block to pay for the damage to the room
  • Safe House:  EVERYTHING that comes out of Rufus' mouth.  My personal favorite, "Do not religiously persecute me, Bobby."
  • Don't Call Me Shurley:  "Dude, quit ironing my shirts with beer!"
  • All In The Family:  Sam's quick retrieval of his beer from Metatron
  • We Happy Few:  Lucifer's snapping of fingers, expecting to see Dean and Sam explode, and his crazy eyes' stare at Chuck when they don't
  • Alpha and Omega:  The ghost hunt at Waverly Sanitorium.  Just love the last shot of them walking out, in step with each other

That's really hard.  I think, in order for me to do that, I would need to bypass many of the great stand-alone episodes from the first couple seasons, and I also need to avoid too many dramatic episodes that get me in the feels.  Like I adore "The Song Remains the Same", but heartbreak isn't what I'd want on a desert island.  So, maybe a bunch of fun, outside-the-norm episodes would work.

1) Hollywood Babylon

2) A Very Supernatural Christmas

3) Mystery Spot

4) It's a Terrible Life

5) Changing Channels

6) The French Mistake

7) Fan Fiction

I agree about choosing more of the light(er)hearted episodes -- even though most of my favorites tend to be of the bittersweet/depressing variety. I was also thinking to avoid many of the "apocalypse is nigh" episodes that might evoke similar feels. My list (chronologically):

  1. A Very Supernatural Christmas: 1st episode I saw, and I can watch again and again
  2. Mystery Spot: favorite - laughter factor
  3. Wishful Thinking: Audrey and Teddy always lift my spirits
  4. Changing Channels: I'd probably aporeciate the variety in the scenes just as much as the humor
  5. The French Mistake: Sam and Dean dropped into the "real world" that doesn't look at all like their reality? I could probably relate.
  6. Fan Fiction: favorite - heartwarming nostalgia
  7. Baby: favorite - just Sam, Dean, and the car
