Wow, the Yankees fans really let Aaron Hicks have it. 😧

Yeah, I didn't care for that either. He's someone else's problem now. Let him be. I certainly wouldn't have applauded for him but booing him mercilessly is a bad look.

I really wish they would stop booing Stanton. He's still working to find it post-injury and we know he's streaky. At some point he'll go on a power tear and they'll be cheering him. Hypocrisy.

I'll still follow the Mets as they're a talking point in my family as there are many Mets fans in it.

The Reds won again tonight.  46-39.  Having a great year and they are a great story.  But at the same time I wonder if they can maintain this for the whole 2nd half the year.  There's more tape on the players and analytics on them to prepare against them now

The Bronx Cheer is one of my VERY least favorite things as a Yankees fan.  How quickly they forgot “he made the play!” and the home run against the Astros.  So rude to boo something nice.

Considering what the weather looked like in a shot of Coney Island ESPN just showed, might not need to worry about watching the Yankees and Orioles for free today.

They usually collapse after the All Star break, but here's hoping they can eke it out this year.

Canada Day was July 1, so the Jays had their Canada Day gear for the game Sat. They lost, as they typically do in the red uniforms, lol. Some Jays fans, me included, think the red unis are cursed.

I didn't watch the game, but they had cool ceremony to start, including a citizenship ceremony for some new Canadians which was cool.

On July 4- I didn't watch yesterday either, but I saw some pics they had a red hat with both flags maybe? And some players opted to wear the USA socks.

I read broken hand. Why only 10 day IL? That doesn't track.

Because you can't go back - a player can be moved from the 10 to 60 day IL, but not vice versa.  There's no reason to jump the gun, especially if he manages to come back after a month or so.

Of course, a pessimist would say that the Angels will be well out of contention by then, so he might as well start his vacation now.

I shudder to think how City Connect will mangle the Jays uni of they ever get around to it. I wish they would let a Canadian designer do it. There was a cool Indigenous artist that redesigned the logo last year for something.  It would've been great.

Do people like the new schedule format?

I don't really. Partly I haven't been watching bx the Jays are depressing, but also the new schedule for a variety of reasons, has meant I'm less interested in some of the games. But I don't know if that's a UO.

ETA was watching this game- scary sitch in NY. I hope thr person is ok.

I don't really mind the schedule, if  it keeps the yankees/redsox  from playing what seems like every other weekend off my TV it's ok.

But also like with the Reds/Brewers, they play each other before the all star break and then play each other again to start up the second half of the season.  Then they play one more set on starting the 24th of this month, then nothing the rest of the season.

I think scheduling could be better, but I have no problem with everyone playing each other.

I don't have a problem with the balanced schedule, but I don't really see any value in it, either. Playing the same teams can be boring for rabid fans who watch 162, but it also allows storylines and rivalries to build for more casual fans.

I know a big benefit is supposed to be having the game's stars get around to everywhere, but I really don't think that matters as much as they think it does. If I want to see Mike Trout play, what's stopping me now? Is there that much value in seeing him play in my team's stadium?

I care a lot more about the Reds' young team, and watching their rookie Elly de la Cruz square off against our rookie and imagining what the next several years will be like in our division. Why on earth would I care about watching the Cardinals play... the Mariners? Or the Rays? There's no history there, no geographic interest, minimal effect on each other's playoff chances.

Welp that’s now three (convicted by MLB) domestic abusers the Yankees have had on their pitching staff.  Beyond gross.

It makes it tough for this Yankees fan to root for the team.  I REALLY blame them for acquiring Chapman, but damn I wish they had jettisoned German.  I cannot watch the games he pitches.  Not even a little happy about the perfect game.

That said, none of these three have been tried, so I don’t feel comfortable wholeheartedly condemning them.  But I really wish they weren’t on my team.  Real life sucks.

I'm right there with you @mojoween. Unreal.

I'd like to turn off this nightmare of a game, but I want to hear the answer to the trivia question. 😄 I'll bet YES holds out until the 7th or 8th inning to give us the answer.

Edited to add: Thanks for the trivia answer in the top of the 5th, YES. I can go watch a movie or something now. I was only able to come up with Mussina and Britton as correct answers.

I just…I can’t…there are no words.

Wait I have some what the fuck if they can score 12 runs without seeming to break a sweat WHY CAN’T WE what the fuck

This team is built poorly, and has been for years now. They're good enough to win games and make the post season, but it's all walks, homeruns, and strikeouts. I hope the owner figures out that all the booing is the fans telling him it is about time to make a change and hand the team over to somebody else.

Also, their analytics team is not as good as they think it is.

They have how many great players?  Judge

How many good players? Rizzo, Bader

Okay for their positions? Trevino, Volpe (who could end up being really good someday.)

Mediocre to deeply mediocre: Torres, LeMahieu, Stanton,

Horrible/career substitute/minor leaguer: Donaldson, Cabrera, Bauers, McKinney

Starting pitching: okay

Bullpen: pretty good

Who honestly thinks that adds up to a winning team?  Who thinks that adds up to a WATCHABLE team?

Without Judge they are so depressing.

Eight games over .500, though, and in the wild card hunt. Things can work out by the time the postseason begins. My team is on a streak, but it would take a lot of collapsing of other teams for them to get a whiff of October.

From Deadspin: Orioles should make a move for Ohtani. It would be one hell of a play, and it would benefit them even if they can’t catch Tampa Bay.

I think that’s the point that the other poster was making though… Good enough to get there but that’s it. Look at last post season. The Yankees barely beat Cleveland to get through the ALDS and then were completely decimated by Houston in the ALCS. Quite an embarrassing sweep. And this is essentially the same team they had last year. Worse, actually, because they don’t have Judge.

Teams can’t move a player to 60 day IL unless they also need room on the 40 man roster.

Yep @DMK

And as @Harry24 said, it's not that they're a bad team. It's that they're an unwatchable team because we all know that it's not a formula that has a good chance for success in the playoffs.

The ONLY way this team, the way it is constructed, could win its way through all of the playoff rounds would be Judge hitting 18 homeruns in the playoffs and the starting pitchers throwing 11 inning shutouts in the games where it takes him a while to hit a one of those homeruns.

For a few days now, I've been thinking that the Yankees should be sellers at the trade deadline. Now I'm sure of it. I don't see Hal doing that, though.

Quoting myself here. Nothing I've seen in the past two weeks has changed my mind, in fact it's reinforced my position.

Unfortunately, even if they Yankees were to be sellers, it's still be Cashman making the deals. Hal needs to fire Cashman, but that's another thing that'll never happen, and I don't see another NYY championship as long as he's at the helm. 😒

Wow I didn’t realize Cashman was still around there.  He’s been there forever it seems like

Jerome (rip) would agree with you.  Lol

The hitting coach. Never mind that the Yankees team was built with all high slugging, high strikeout guys and no contact hitters for average.

But yeah sure, it’s the hitting coach

And if Judge were healthy and hitting like Judge, I'm sure nobody would be getting fired even though the entire rest of the lineup would be producing exactly the same as they are now.

My heart bleeds for the Yankees. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

I haven’t gotten any e-mails about seats getting cheaper based on Polar Bear’s progression in tonight’s Derby. Maybe it’s for the best that I’m not tempted. Last time I got a ticket that early, the Mets staged a dramatic comeback win, and I still hate myself for leaving early. And that was almost two years ago. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I'm not sure about this.

Unfortunately, over several seasons, we've watched the Yankees' offense struggle during Judge's IL stints. The players may change, but the story remains the same: The Yankees don't hit as well when their leader's not in the lineup.

Perhaps instead of replacing the Hitting Coach, they should expand the Sports Psychologist's staff. 🤷‍♀️

“ESPN2 is going to be more data driven [version of the Home Run Derby]” and holy cow am I BEYOND excited to not in any way consider watching that.

Not saying who I am rooting to not advance, I’ll just say I’m sending love to the home town guy.

I agree, that version did not interest me one iota.  I hope Brian Kenney from MLB Network enjoys it.
