Back page of the News: "CLOT THICKENS." Above that: picture of Mr. Met. "WANTED: EXORCIST" "Have you ever removed a curse before?" "Do you have Theo Epstein's phone number?" "If so, call Mr. Met for immediate employment!" And the Post was worse. I think the front page was basically "Why Does God Hate The Mets?" I'll have to look it up later. They've won eight of 12, but the wheels are flying off.

Well, they did have a cover story on the high school Babe Ruth. That counts, right?

Damn, good times for Yankees fans. Judge is becoming the Next Big Thing, Jeter is getting his number retired with ESPN covering it, and parts aren't flying off the bus at an alarming rate.

YES Network started there Jeter coverage this week.  He gave a sit down interview that they've sprinkled into two programs dedicated to him, the weekly Yankees Magazine show and something titled Moments, Memories and Monuments.  And jeez, I forgot how boring of an interviewee he is.  He shockingly said something personal, though, commenting on being a dad for the first time and it was just zzzzzzzzzz.  Damn, show a little enthusiasm or something.  There was an article in the NY Daily news that said if Derek was going to be an owner (which looks like it's not going to happen at all), he'll have to do something he's never done; open up in interviews and stop giving canned responses.

What will the Yankees do if the game is rained out or delayed?

Re Jeter, he never was a fun interview like Nick Swisher and he is a very controlled person in face of the public. Texeira said he was funny, and didn't take himself too seriously IRL. I think it stems from a need to keep his private life, private. Truthfully he has never been my favorite Yankee in terms of adoration (Andy, Bernie, Posada) but I am damn proud that he was a Yankee and in watching some of the career highlights I am convinced of his all around greatness. Maybe not the most physically talented but his entire baseball IQ is hard to match. At least here in NY.

I know!  Is it monsoon weather?  I mean they usually get what I have at home a few hours later and it's not even raining right now.  I wonder if I should start building an ark for the afternoon.

I wonder how that is going to impact Derek Jeter Day.  I was hoping to go but the bus trip from Syracuse was sold out and there were no cancellations.  It's going to be a madhouse.

Oh interesting.  Tomorrow's doubleheader will only be for people who had tickets for tomorrow and it's already sold out, probably because of Jeet Day.

Right now it is just raining in the Bronx and that has been since daybreak. The big rain is due to arrive anytime between 3 and  6. It is just not wise to try and play. Yanks decision to only honor Sunday tickets is smart because you don't have to empty the stadium/parking lots. Many folks are unhappy I'm sure, but their experience would probably be disappointing by having to leave before DJ ceremony.

Jeter's letter to the fans on Players Tribune should be read over and over by one Matt Harvey who has always wanted to emulate Jeter. It's also something that all young players, escpecially in places like NY should contemplate. Do not be afraid to fail. I think in the end that is probably what has defeated many Yankee prospects, especially pitchers, when they are called up to the Bronx. They seem to always feel pressure to succeed or be put back on the Columbus Shuttle. Your talent will put you over if you just believe in yourself.

Out of curiosity, what should sports leagues do to show that they care (at least on the surface) about women and their problems? I get how pink can be annoying, and I don't think people in general can pull it off.

Got the Mets game on TV. Saturday night, the Mets will be giving away Starting Lineup David Wright "figurines." One: Starting Lineup is still a thing? Two: Wouldn't an accurate David Wright figure have him in an iron lung? I know, probably the best third baseman in the history of the franchise, but he's basically John Sterns in the early/mid-Eighties.

I think the pink is overkill. Ok for the caps and numbers but the stirrups and bats seem a bit much. I have had BC in my family and a Stage 0 in myself but the pink is kinda lame. If it's for women everything should be pink. Nonsense. I see Chris playing first base. He needs to play every day, strikeouts and all. Who else if not Bird? I have a funny feeling Bird is going to have a Texeira kind of season. Tex took a long time to come back from his fracture and then had to be shut down.

The Wright figurines are kind of neat but it just emphasizes the depressing thought that David has been unable to play. I really wish the team would start playing and pitching like they can because I want it for him. Great guy and a nice guy.

I don't like the pink either.  Or the blue, for whatever it is they wear blue for.   Back when they just used to wear pink wristbands, that was O.K. Now it is just too much.  The socks the Tigers and Angels are wearing are especially egregious - the Tigers pink & gray combo is just weird and the Angels look like someone threw one red sock in with the whites.

But then, I have a general hatred of alternate uniforms.  It's just a money grab.   IMO, if your cap isn't navy with a white or orange Olde English D, it isn't a Tigers cap.

If a sport as as profitable as MLB really wants to show they care about an issue, how about throwing some serious money at it?  Like all the proceeds, not a percentage of the profit,  from  the special unis goes to a charity.   Or all tickets sales, or better yet, all income from that day from tickets to merchandise to vendor sales go to the cause.  I won't ask them to throw in a percentage of TV monies; I'm not crazy.

To review: the Mets' bullpen blew another big lead, and they got swept in Milwaukee. Meanwhile, the Yankees are getting knocked around by the Astros, but the only way the day would be ruined is if Derek Jeter takes a line drive to the face. The beautiful, beautiful face. Even is you don't count the Yanks' win earlier, a lopsided loss wouldn't be as bad as the Mets getting hammered by the Dodgers when the 1986 team was honored. That was the one when the umpire kicked Thor and Sandy out of the party, and Chase Utley defecated on the cake.

Honestly, I didn't know I was so starved for Jeter. Ah, like a drink in the desert. Wouldn't it have been funny, though, if Hannah went into labor during Sterling's intro? That'd be a call for the ages!

I'd actually be surprised if Sterling wasn't already working on home run calls for little Jeter.

I enjoyed the ceremony. Mostly because I got to see a lot of the guys (esp. Bernie and Mariano) who lowered my intense dislike of the Yankees to just a great dislike.

Truly the end of an era. That was probably the last time we'll hear Enter Sandman and Bob Sheppard's voice at the stadium.

ETA Yeah, Kay has got to be pissed he missed out on the first interviews with Jeter and Torre.

"The Core Four plus Bernie Williams."  You shut your face.  Bernie rules over all of those fools!

I have to admit I am amused that Jeter wanted to wear number 13 but couldn't because Jim Leyritz had it because I wonder if A-Rod knew that when he got to New York.  It would not at all surprise me that if Alex did know it that he would pick that number.

I saw a commercial featuring MLB Network personalities reciting James Earl Jones' "people will come, Ray" soliloquy from Field Of Dreams on... ESPN.  What the hell?   I know they pretty much gutted their baseball staff and coverage but are they really touting a (vastly superior) competitor?

It's probably airing during Intentional Talk which now airs on ESPN an hour before it airs on MLB Network.
