S01.E01: Jimmy Fallon vs. Dwayne Johnson / S01 E02 Common vs. John Legend

Recommended Posts

I've always enjoyed the Lip Sync Battles as part of The Tonight Show. When I saw they were making it into it's own show, the biggest question was "Really? Does this need to be it's own show?!"

Watching these two episodes, the answer is clear. No. Not at all.

However, having said that, did I enjoy them? ...Yeah. No idea why Chrissie Teigen is there though. She added nothing to the show.

I LOVED this. It was so fun! I love it when celebrities can be silly and not take themselves too seriously. It is now being recorded regularly by my DVR. So silly and funny! Perfect pick-me-up after a bad day.

Too bad NBC didn't take this show and put it on the same night as Hollywood Game Night--it would be a great pairing.
I liked it, I think the best ones will be with Jimmy--he just takes it very seriously.

I like Chrissy--probably more than LL Cool J--he's hosted too many things for me to enjoy it anymore.

I was thinking that. Jimmy doesn't have enough power at the network to get this on NBC?

Oh, and who knows what the opening theme song is?

I enjoyed both eps and had a smile on my face during all the performances.  Personally, I think John Legend should have won that second battle, but it was close.  Common does a mean Lionel.

However, Chrissy Teigan makes Khloe Kardashian look like a good host.  And I say this as someone who doesn't normally dislike Chrissy Teigan.

I agree, John Legend should have won. That first rap? And the audacity to look that good wearing vintage MC Hammer? Respect.

20th Century Boy by T Rex. Jimmy brought it to NBC but they passed on it.

I enjoyed both eps but I loved the John/Common battle when they both got to dress up and went all out on the choreo.

Had he busted out more Hammer like moves like the one I call the  "typewriter" (you know which one I mean) he would have won.  I think Common won due to the wig.

Meanwhile The Rock would have to put kittens in a headlock for me to ever hate him.

That was silly mindless fun.  I would  have thought they would have this as a summer show b/c it seems perfect for that mid year, nothing to do time period.

I don't mind Chrissy normally, but I'm not sure what her purpose is at all here.  Husband doesn't really know who she was and couldn't believe she was a model when I explained.

Common v. John.  I agree with above posts:  If John busted out a few more early 90s dance moves, he tots had it.   Common was pretty great with the wig, leather pants and red shirt.  Seeing LL's glee at his outfit was worth the tv time.

Jimmy v. The Rock.  Yeah, Between the Tay tay (heh) and Sat Night Fever, there wasn't any competition.  Even on the bits on his show, I find Jimmy's song selection a little weak for this format.

She was on the cover of Sports Illustrated (twice I think). She's a big deal on social media. Not a great color commentator though. Left me breastless.

Isn't that a song by The Corrs?

Just stumbled across the repeats on a bad day.  I couldn't have asked for something better for my mood than The Rock doing Shake It Off, though I don't like Taylor Swift.  He was the perfect first guest for this show, and he clearly enjoyed himself.  And Jump In the Line is one of my favorite songs, though it wasn't right for this venue. I did laugh when an entire choir was lip syncing though.

Does this need to be a show instead of a bit I enjoy on YouTube?  No.  And Chrissy Tiegen…what?  But LL is doing well with such cheesy stuff.

That MC Hammer move was called the Chinese Typewriter.  I don't know why I know that.  There are so many important things I could be remembering, but instead, that's in my brain.
