  1. Just got done watching the first episode, I figured I'd give it a try - other than having watched the trailer, I knew nothing about it, but the trailer hadn't impressed me much. Anyway, I enjoyed the first episode, but as others have said, the laugh track didn't sit right. I kind of got used to it by the end, but I feel it would work better without the laugh track/pauses for reaction. The actual set up felt solid, to me. I liked the characters and the story (even though it's not exactly groundbreaking).
  2. I've enjoyed Claire all season. The moment she joined Frank in breaking the fourth wall... I definitely got a little chill.
  3. I hadn't read the book and hadn't really watched any of the trailers before going to see this. I went in knowing it had been nominated for best picture, that a couple of my friends had already seen it (and really liked it) and a bit about the basic concept/story. From the start, I was pretty convinced that Jack was really a girl and 'Ma' was hiding the fact from Old Nick, so he didn't turn his 'affections' toward Jack by shutting him away (though there were other more obvious reasons for this) when Nick was in Room and never letting Nick near to or touch Jack. In my head, this was so Nick could never have enough time to properly see Jack and see how feminine "he" looked. When the cops asked Old Nick about his little girl, when Jack escaped, I thought that was that. I felt pretty bad when the film was over and I'd taken it to a darker level than the writer had. hah. Really enjoyed the film though.
  4. I saw this with a bunch of people last weekend. I knew it was based on a true story, but I didn't know anything about the true story going in. I really enjoyed it and definitely felt tears coming to my eyes more than once. I don't feel like these people that climbed Everest (or anyone that attempts it) are idiots. I would never want to do it, especially having watched the movie, but I get why people would. At the end, I had kind of forgot that the main guy had died after that last phone call to his wife. So, when they all rocked up back in New Zealand without him, it was an extra punch to the gut for me. One thing I went in expecting, but didn't get, was a Jake Gyllenhaal movie. I didn't know much about the film going in, but what I did know, was that he was in it... Yet, he was far from the star.
  5. I saw it tonight, I actually didn't know much of anything going into the film (beyond that they'd changed the timeline), but nothing really surprised me. They made some interesting (and occasionally cool) creative decisions along the way, but in the end, it was all very paint by numbers. It was by no means a bad film, just not a very good/great film either. I'd probably put it in at number 3 in the top 5 list though. I never saw Salvation, and Rise of the Machines was kind of a bust - though I remember, when seeing it at the cinema, being impressed that they didn't go with the heroes winning. Seeing Skynet nuke the Earth was pretty cool. I read that they already greenlit the two sequels, because the rights (no matter what) revert back to Cameron in 2019. If they go ahead with completing the trilogy, I'll probably see them. Probably not opening night though.
  6. Zara's death was definitely over-the-top, but I looked at it from the actor's POV, in that she got to have the most over-the-top death in the movie, the one everyone's talking about (granted, probably not for the right reasons). She didn't do anything to deserve that death, but did she really do anything to deserve to live/have a happy ending? She was barely in the film, an issue with the writing perhaps, but still.
  7. As soon as Gray, the younger kid, said that they needed more teeth, my mind didn't go to T-Rex, it went to the big fuck off dinosaur sat in the tank a few metres away, so while I was happy to see T-Rex again, I knew it was only a matter of time before they dropped the new Dino into the tank (or, as what actually happened, had the Dino drag it into the tank). While it was a stretch that he could imprint in such a way to begin with, I actually liked that moment in the film, where Blue opts to choose him over the new Dino. Essentially Blue chose her parent over the new guy in town and again, as cheesy as it was, I was happy to hear her little clicks as she came running to join T-Rex in battle. Definitely more sequels on their way, especially as it's had the best opening weekend of all time(? - if not best, it's second, I was looking at BoxOfficeMojo earlier). Though, I don't know where they'll go with it, which only makes it better, really.
  8. Fair play to Lena Headey. The ending was a shock, but as others have said, Melisandre showing up just before surely means it's a given that she'll bring him back next season? Loved the little scene between Tyrion and Varys - Varys may be my favourite character in the show. I assume Theon and Sansa were jumping into a snow bank, Assassin's Creed style? - Cause all I could think while watching was "that'd never fucking work". Awesome seeing Arya doing her thing in the whore house, perhaps even more awesome seeing the many faces at work later.
  9. Just back from seeing it. I really, really liked it. I was 5/6 when the original came out, saw it in the cinema the night it came out in my town. Owned it multiple times throughout the years, have seen and owned the sequels, too. Even went to see the 20th Anniversary re-release at the cinema. Point is, this film, for me had a lot to live up to and for the most part, it did. Was it super clichéd? Of course, and I definitely eye-rolled a few times. But I sat with a smile on my face throughout. It doesn't beat the original for me, but it beats Lost World and III. I think, for younger viewers coming to the franchise for the first time, or close to the first time, this film would beat out the original, as they don't have nostalgia kicking them in the ass when they think about Jurassic Park. Most of all, four films showing why it's an awful idea and should never happen... I still want to visit Jurassic Park/World. It looks amazing. (Also, I had zero issue with any of the Dino-CGI. None of it looked bad to me. The only CGI that did was the crow at the very start of the film. I was also happy to see that there was use of animatronics and that the creatures weren't entirely computer generated.)
  10. Might be going to see this on Sunday. Where does it rank on the disaster movie scale?
  11. I went into this film with pretty low expectations, I'd read a lot of mixed to negative comments/review headlines online beforehand. I really enjoyed it. The message was a little heavy-handed, especially toward the end, but I liked the characters (I wasn't annoyed by her special-ness/optimism). I don't know why, but watching it, I felt like I used to feel when I was a kid, watching slightly older films on TV at Christmas. During Casey's first trip to Tomorrowland (via the pin), I genuinely felt that sense of wonder that she felt... It just made me happy.
  12. Spend her time time-travelling? (may not have been those exact words, but she definitely said something to that effect at one point)
  13. I watched the first movie, not long after it came out, on a whim. I didn't expect much from it, I think I expected Glee on a big scale. I ended up really enjoying it though. The second one, while not as good, is definitely still funny. I was worried that I'd find Rebel Wilson overbearing, but they kept the character of Fat Amy at a nice level, I thought. One thing that I felt didn't work is that this film felt a lot more like a musical than the first - the example I used while discussing with friends after was the scene with Fat Amy coming across the lake. There was no a cappella in that, it was a full backing track. I had the same thought when she appeared on screen, when I saw her, I wondered if the rest of the old-bellas were cameos of sorts, but there didn't seem to be anyone else that I recognised, besides Katy Sagal (who had obviously already had a part to play within the film). Also have to agree with this. I liked the (introduction?) use of the 'podcast', as a reason why they were at every event the Bellas were at.
  14. I went to see the film last night with 3 friends. When the film ended, the friend to the left turned to me and said "We made the wrong decision" (We had talked before and made the last minute decision to see it), the friends to the right were raving about how amazing it was. I hadn't (and still haven't) seen the original films, but I did not enjoy this film at all. It looked good, and a lot of the stunts were well done, but when that's all there is, it's not enough. There is next to no plot and the plot that is there, is so predictable and linear that it's hard to care about. After having seen the film, I only know the name of two characters. Max and Furiosa. I didn't feel any sense of caring toward any of them. The whole film was just noise. I genuinely don't understand what people are seeing in it that I didn't.
  15. I actually went back and watched that part again, after it happened. I enjoyed the episode, plan to watch more. Not a whole lot more to say on the matter. hah
