They do the swimsuit shoot at the end of the year right before tryouts.  The rookies have finished their first DCC year and are technically not "rookies" anymore.  Of course, some - as we saw - didn't make it back for their 2nd year. :(.

In previous years, it seemed they took only Vets after TC had started.

I'm sorry but no one should feel bad for Jasmine, Breelan, or Ashley Pro but themselves. Something in their audition obviously went awry. Maybe it was the solo, maybe it was weight gain and the field routine. Maybe they botched the interview. Maybe it was pending season long. Like every year, vets bring this upon themselves when they show up unprepared and unpolished compared to rookie candidates. I can't judge from the YBTJ clips or compare it to the vets solo clips to say justifiably so, but the talent in this rookie class seems meager. Holly, Simone, and Kat seemed like powerhouse standouts.

 

I actually REALLY loved Breelan throughout MTT. Her look is cute but had the potential of being bombshell. She obviously didn't give dancing the time and effort she personally needed in her spare time, though, and that probably comes down to maturity more than anything. You also have to think, too, as another poster said, to be a DCC is not just a physical thing - it's all-consuming. You have to be with it mentally, physically, psychologically or it will show on the field.

Yeah I definitely think Breelan and Ashley treated DCC as more of a hobby than a job. They both thought they could coast by and not improve at all, when they were the ones who needed to the most.

Obviously they got out auditioned and are kicking themselves or feeling confused but hindsight is 20/20. We are hard just like the judges but they are not robots and are probably very sad. I think we can feel bad about who we want to. I feel bad that Ashley and Jamine got cut. I liked them both and wish they were still on the team. That's what I feel and I have a right to feel that way. Just sayin'.

Just weighing in here, some people can only do so much with the talent they were born with. I'm sure that Breelan and Ashley Pro both practiced throughout the year and tried to improve. Ashley especially struck me as someone who was a hard worker both of her seasons in training camp. Maybe what they brought to finals WAS their best game in terms of their dancing. Not everyone on the team is going to be an amazing dancer like Melissa or Jacie.

As far as weight gain goes, Breelan definitely gained but there is no way to know exactly why. Maybe she has poor eating habits or maybe there is another reason that we are not privy to. I am not convinced that Ashley was cut due to weight gain because she looked the same to me, but we'll find out soon enough.

So anyway, I guess I just think it's unfair to assume that because they didn't look great to us at finals, that they were coasting or put in no effort.

I think they both gained weight, but when you consider it, alot of girls likely come in auditioning at a weight they usually never had to maintain..or a weight that they got down to just to audition. The "poor eating habits" that happens to alot of the rookies upon returning as vets is likely just them going back to their regular eating habits prior to TC and not having to dance nonstop. I also think that it is unfair to assume that they didn't put in the effort, however; I do believe that they could have put in a greater effort as potential vets.

Every year Kelly claims it's a more talented rookie pool than ever, it begs the question:

Did vets get out performed by rookies, or did vets under perform (literally, but also in other areas of interview, showmanship, etc)?

 

As for Jasmine, I suppose I'm a little confused by all the people saying she shouldn't have made the team from the start, let alone made it back 3 seasons, but yet they're upset she was cut.

I honestly think it was a combination of both..leaning more towards underperforming. Let's face it, there were so many spots open to fill, no one should have lost their place.

I like her as a person. But I can see where other dancers could have outshined her. She was never a strong dancer and may have been one of the weakest on the team. I'm just suprised, if this was the case, that it took the judges 4 auditions to realize this? Or maybe she really messed up this year? Guess no one will know until MTT, and hopefully they cover it.

Every year Kelli's says that this year is the best talent they ever had - no idea about this year, but I do think that last year really was one of the best rookie classes! Melissa, Erica, Mary, Lacey...Even with Ashley and Breelan getting cut - two vets is not bad for a whole class given that in recent years they have cut A LOT of returning rookies.

Maybe this year her solo was just especially weak and they chose to bring in an extra rookie over her. There's no telling really, but if I were Kelli and Judy I'd be frustrated over Jasmine still being clunky going into her potential fourth year. That said, Jasmine was never going to stop being clunky. I think it probably just came down to getting out danced and K&J having more rookie candidates they wanted to bring in.

Exactly. If Jasmine was that horrible and unable to improve, cut her after season one and be done with it. Unless she did something horrific between now and when she say down with Kelli and Judy at the end of the season, I just find the whole thing a little eyeroll-y and manufactured drama for a show.

It actually shows some pretty crappy management on Judy and Kelli's part if that isn't the case. She was never amazing, and never got particular better. And the people in change of judging her talent, they should never have let her coast. Once they did, yeah they probably owed it to her to not humiliate her.

Who knows, maybe they flat out told her that before auditions.

The calender shoot happens at the end of the year. I don't know why the show made it seem like it occurred during training camp. Many viewers knew making the team was shot out of sequence.

Wow, agree to disagree! I think this is one of the most respectful boards I've ever been on! You should see some other boards. Here, when people say 'agree to disagree', the topic is usually dropped which is rare on the internet! I've experienced this personally when I wasn't feeling TNS racing Taylor and or Melissa being chosen as mentor. Never seen anyone disrespected for their opinion and every one posts what they feel without abandon but maybe I'm one of the mean ones lol. Dont want to get reprimanded by bigskygirl for derailing the thread, so I'm going to drop it.

Completely agree. Jasmine was never a great dancer, and they kept bringing her back. If she brought the same dancing skills to tryouts yesterday that she has for the past 3 years, then I think it's messed up to cut her like that. If they no longer wanted her on the team, then tell her ahead of time, so she can save the time and embarrassment of trying out again and not making it. Who knows, maybe she was warned, but I doubt it. I feel differently when it's a weight issue, but when it comes to dancing, you know after the first year whether the can retain memory, project, perform week in and week out, etc. It doesn't take 3 years to figure out. ETA: Of course, this is assuming that dance is the reason she got cut and not flubbing the interview or blanking out on the field, etc.

 

Every year, Kelli talks about how great the solos are and how great the rookie class is, and I honestly have just started to roll my eyes about it.  The rookie class in the seventh season I believe, is the only one in recent years that I thought was a lot stronger than the others. Every other class has had 3 or 4 standouts, but I thought the talent was fantastic that year (Kinzie, Jacie, Jenna, Jennifer Alexis, Olivia, Carissa, Jessica, Alex H. (before the weight gain), I even thought Danielle was very strong in training camp that year)).  Hell, even some of the girls who were weak in training camp (Kelsey, Ashley) seem like they ended up being good DCCs. It will be interesting to see how this year's group comes together.

When I saw Breelan still having the scared face look during the Halloween half-time - on the huge HD screen no less- I knew she wouldn't be back. I can't say she looked like she'd gained weight but her solo costume was not flattering to her body type. I thought the same about Jasmine's solo costume as well.

I agree that it's unfortunate that Jasmine was cut going into her fourth year, but at the same time I think weaker veterans are always at risk at auditions depending on the pool of new talent that year. If there were more new girls that they preferred over keeping Jasmine, imo they have every right to cut her. I will miss her personality, but I think Jasmine has been on borrowed time from day one.
