Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

And no refunds! So if you get some smelly, pit stained item, you are out of luck.

If her customers are not happy and send in reviews (with pictures is good), she will have a bad rating, and she will not sell more items.  Sellers on Etsy have a visible star review, and Etsy asks for a review after a purchase. (A few people actually write one.) If only friends and family are making purchases, she will end up with good reviews.  If some unwary customer makes a purchase I would hope they would send in a review.  I don't see this venture ending up well.  I think the cost of business to sell used, cheap clothing will not bring in much, if any, profit in the long run.

Plus, she doesn't stick with stuff for very long. It will be more trouble than it is worth and Jill is lazy.

I don't think Jill is lazy per se.   Allergic to work yes.   But her grifting takes hustler and dedication.   She's stuck with plexus for a long time.   She's stuck with the "we are a full time ministry" for a long time.

I can't think of the right word, but she moves on when she realizes that something is not a new income stream or a chance for travel.   The ivory boutique died because it was more outgo with rent and obtaining new products than it was bringing in, with no other benefits.

Plexus doesn't bring in money but it allows her to indulge in her two favorite things - travel and shopping.   Same with the "full time ministry" they get to travel and people take them shopping and buy them meals.

The Etsy store will die because it won't be as popular as she hopes thereby depriving her of money to travel and shop.

One of her other big motivation for any project is getting recognition and bragging rights. Plexus allows her to pretend to have a leadership position with a big company and she has all those downliners to worship and adore her.  The grifting tours give her the chance to stand on stage in front of a group of people who think there is something really praiseworthy about birthing a passel o' kids and who let her take center stage to tell their story and sing badly.  She couldn't get that sort of validation from the shop and she won't get it from Etsy; so I expect she won't stick with it.

I have a feeling that some of Jill's Plexus downlines and regular customers were put off by the juvenile tantrums she threw after Tim's wedding and perhaps have deserted her so she is already acutely aware that a significant portion of her Plexus income stream is gone.

Now my question is will Jill make the connection with her temper tantrum and the drop in supporters and income and moderate her behavior in the future?  I'm not sure she's capable of that, but I hope she is.

I wonder where Jill got the clothes for free. Yeah some are hers but the new stuff she got it for free somewhere. No way she paid.

Maybe some people donated them to the family? One brand, I think Xhilaration (spelling?) isn't even made anymore.

Yes, I’ve been eagerly awaiting her first negative review. 😝

Jill is not including the modesty white tee lol. And is it $55?

The outfit is not modest, the dress has a deep v neckline and the sweater is too small.

She has worn that sweater before. I call it sausage arm sweater because it is way too small. And it looks old. I had one similar over 10 years ago, though mine actually fit.

I have been wondering for a while if Jill has been somehow selling clothes people donated to them in a quieter way.

Jill made a big show of those prairie dresses someone sent the girls from australia. Never seen again. Same with clothes some sweet missionary person sent to them from myanmar.

The matching color of the day performance outfits change quite often. The younger girls never seem to wear things the older girls wore when they were younger.

The plexus person from colorado that came to the little retreat at the bandb in ohio made Sofia, Sadie and Janessa quilted jackets. Other than the day they got them, I have not seen a picture of them wearing those.

Dave did do a teary eye speech saying Jill could have been a model but she chose to be a modest Christian wife. It was during the anniversary trip when they had sauerkraut and sausage and Pringles and ranch and green beans for dinner. I still wonder why Dave was so teary eyed.

I don't think Jill would have made it as a model.

There are other things the children have been gifted that we never see again. I am sure she sells things to resale shops. She went with this because she saw she can (maybe) get more money than they would give her. Plus, there was probably a lot of junk she had they didn't want.

If she had been raised differently, I think she could have done some modeling. Small time of course.

At 5'7", I learned from Tyra Banks that she's short for modeling. Unless she's super special, which she's not.

That's why I said small time. I knew someone who modeled and she is shorter than me. She never really did anything noteworthy.

My ex signed up with a modeling agency (they saw him at the mall and showed interest). It was weird because it wasn't really modeling. He did things like hand out samples of ice cream and one job was him and a few guys going into a business and "kidnapping" some guy as a joke. He only did a few jobs and found it wasn't worth the time. We did get a boatload of free ice cream cups though.

No, I don't think lazy is the right word for Jill either, but it's puzzling to me that she spends all this time and effort making and selling things that there's no market for (Rod cds, the book for young ladies (ugh) or that are set up so she's putting in a lot of effort for fairly low profit margins (Plexus, these eBay shenanigans). I mean, when you look at the numbers coming from Plexus itself, she could make more at a fairly part-time retail job.  I realize it all comes down to attention for narcissistic Jill, but really, with the signs pointing to a bit of a financial crisis, she could earn a fair bit more for a lot less effort.

Dave, on the other hand... well... I'm generally not a fan of the word lazy, because it's often used against people who have unaddressed barriers to meaningful participation in work etc, but I will use it for Dave. He won't use the tools and skills he does have to start printing things for a profit (they can be religious!). He won't expand his line of landfill filler to new pamphlets to attract new churches. He won't even write a new sermon to try and get some new stops on the grift tour, but Jill's hunk still dips up first.

She's now showing stuff she first posted looking for pricing. Apparently, she didn't listen. But I get the impression that Jill rarely listens.

And is continuing to advertise her crap as “brand new,” when Etsy only allows handmade or vintage! Gahhhh!

In another life, Jill could've been a model on The Price is Right.  I have seen those moves she's using hundreds of times.

Jill would help herself to the prizes and get fired.

And is it normal for a grown 20 plus year old woman Renee to fit into a kid size? She is not petite either. I don't know. I'm not petite or slim.

That it's a children's size is the reason the shoulders hang down and it's so ill fitting.  It's probably about a 16 which would look similarly on me.  Children's sizes can go up to an 18 or possibly 20 (especially in boys) which could sort of fit a smaller adult woman.  They are designed for the undeveloped child body so unless it's sweats or similar they'll never look right.

She definitely ordered things from somewhere, and didn’t bother to iron them after they came out of the package. Those two coat dresses are the perfect example. they don’t look worn, it looks like they just came out of a package completely wrinkled. Not the best way to sell anything.

I doubt that she even owns an iron. Too high maintenance for people benefitting not named Jill.

I don't iron, but I do steam.

I don't think Jill has really thought through how this looks to people on the grift stops. Here is Jill selling these "modest outfits" for $25-$55, that aren't all horrible. Then the rods show up on stage at a grift stop in some of the most hideous combinations of modesty wear ever seen.

If shorter skirts with leggings are good enough to model and sell, why are the rod girls wearing those floor length monstrosities, old bridesmaid gowns etc.

Because she's  holier than  those other sluttish fundies who wear  shorter skirts.

Dave could print more than smiley tracks. He could actually have a legit printing business and print stuff for companines. Or business cards for people, but then that probably isn't "Godly."

But then he would actually have to stay home print things and get them shipped/delivered in a timely manner. No more monthly or month long vacations or pumpkin farm visits to play with string cheese mid day....

He'd just hand the day to day printing over to the kids. It's not like they  aren't already doing most of the work.

Two things:

What did Dave do BEFORE he had a printing press? What job did he have when he married Jill?

Also, Jill is advertising thin summer maxi dresses as jumpers suitable for fall. The tee shirt underneath (which is not for sale) makes a lightweight fabric appropriate for colder weather?! I disagree.

As I recall, David was a professional printer, working in a regular printshop.  I think the business closed and he lost his job which prompted him to devote himself to full time map watching.

Only Jill is allowed to have new clothes and stuff. Her kids look like orphans for begging and to look less attractive than mama. Mama is the prettiest sister ever. Only mama is allowed to be the shiniest rod female. Jill is jealous of her daughters youth and beauty. Jill is a middle aged lady with a Leon in her neck and a lazy husband.

It was probably JILL who wanted him home all time and didn't want him working on Fridays.

Jill wanted him home because he left for work every day and had a life without her.   She wanted him home to worship her 24/7.   Dave thought that was a small price to pay to never have to work again.   And the full-time ministry grift was begun.

Jill could be extremely pretty. I still remember that video when I think Janessa was a baby. She came out of the shower with her hair just wet and straight and normal. And no make up. She looked fantastic that way and so much younger. I wish she could realize that that Tammy Faye 80s look is outdated and ugly.

I am guilty of having worn too much eye makeup in the day. Then I toned it down. and I got so many compliments on how much better I looked. Now everyone wants to compete with the Kardashians with the long hair and make up that is unbelievably heavy. Your eyes always have to be practically black to be fashionable. And it looks like little Sadie is modeling in make up. According to age, I guess Olivia should be next for the great eyebrow massacre.
