Sam McCall Morgan: Fierce P.I. or Tsunami of Tears?

"......I might never have liked you. Point in fact, I despised you. However. That shouldn't suggest that I didnt respect you..." Elle Driver, Kill Bill vol.1.

Which sums up my feelings for Sam to a tee. My how the mighty have fallen. Reduced to panting after a dullard and dueling with Mr. Wooden and his mama.

Although she tied herself to Jason like a tic on a dogs behind at least early Sam was bad ass, I got your back ride or die to the end. This Sam? Don't know which one she needs more: an enema or a Monster energy drink.

When I came back to GH in 2007, thank you SoapNet, Sam was trying to terrify Liz eg watching Jake get kidnapped and sending thugs to threathen her. There were a few nice scenes with her and GV's Lucky in a hot tub. One she hooked back up with the Borg, she became the anything you want, Jason. So the only Sam I know was the evil one and the passive one. The passive one still exists with stupid Silas.

Lillibee I don't know if I characterize it as pasivity as much as Sam having no core personality. She takes on the coloration of the man she is with, whatever he needs her to be.

Sex kitten Brenda replacement for Sonny. Adventure girl with Jax. No strings, seductive hot tub Sam with Lucky. Ride or die sidekick with Jason. And now Nancy Drew to Dr Dreary.

Sam leaves no impression with the men she's been with. Sonny greets her with slightly less warmth than he shows Lulu or Alexis. I remember Jax walking by her at the hospital as if she were a potted palm. When they're done with Sam it's as if she never existed romantically for them.

Sadly, the only time I liked her was with McBain (and maybe a little with Lucky)...I hated they made her a Cassadine and then with very little followup...I hated how they pulled the poor me when her daughter died (felt bad, yes, but other than that), COULD NOT STAND Jasam and now...please.  Siam is snoozefest.

You are right about Siam. Which I don't get because I liked McBam a little. Sam was...tolerable with McBain and I could see the chemistry. Now? The same two people and squat.

I wish they would have some episodes with Sam and her parents. She is only ever with Silas and that is boring, IMO. She has parents and siblings on the canvas. She just found her brother and father. Her parents are now romantically involved and she knows it since she was on their date with them. There is no way Sam would have been making small talk & fucking in a horse stall before pulling her mother aside and asking what in the world was going on between Julian & Alexis.

She reminds me of one if those abused women who gets isolated from family and friends by her abuser's manipulation.

I love Sam and I don't like Siam or Silas because I didn't want to watch them in this third attempted with Kelly&Micheal some say they'll take them anyway they can not me and I'm a fan of the pairing that started this.Siam chemistry is no where near the chemistry in Calivia and Mcbam why IDK.I think those pairing have more edge than this one Silas is very dull and boring and Sam can be boring when she don't have nothing to spark off of.

For years Sam wanted a family she got all that know but she doesn't interact with them if she do it end up begin about Silas.Sam kid is barely shown  with Sam the last  time she was shown with her child was months ago.if I was a new viewer I would think she was a single woman having sex on every surface with her boyfriend and  not a single mom. she mention Danny's name what 2 times this month but mention Silas ,Ava,and Nina every time she's on. I've heard more about her sex life this month  than I ever did since The character 11 years existence.

Well, the whole actual interacting with your family thing has been my biggest beefs with Cartini's style since I went to rewatch a lot of the last year of OL.  Heaven forbid cousins talk (although I think they are throwing that bone today with Nik/Sam) or a nephew gets a talking to from his aunt (damn for so little Jack/Viki on OL).  But, for the anticipation of the Sam's father story that has been building for years, they do jack shit with it.

Still want my skeevy Stavros theory and I'm not ashamed of it.

I can't wait to see them today I love when the cousins are on together but for love of god she better not mention Silas, they ruin my Cassadine cousins moment with the Siam '' hint hint'' we had sex in you're stable.

I have a theory as to why tptb are not pursuing a relationship between Sam,Julian. They do not give off a father, daughter vibe. Not.At.All.

I've thought this since their first scene together. The actor playing Julian is way too young to be Sam's father and they have major sexual chemistry, imo.

ME is older than WdV but I can't say I have seen any sexual chemistry between KM and WdV, but as usual, YMMV. The only person I've ever noticed KM having sexual chemistry as far as who her character wa spaired with was GV's Lucky. Sex in the hot but, anyone?

I have seen some sparks between Sam and Patrick, but they have never been paired.  I used to see it on PC with Kelly and MIchael, so I don't know if it is just the characters. Silas bores me for the most part.

Okay that explains the age thing and yes to GV do you know how many times I rewind the hot tub scene who would have thought walking in a hot tub would be sexy Lusam oozed that.

TPTB should have went the Samtrick route IDK if Kelly &Jason really did want the pairing or was joking around.but I remember those early days Patrick use to flirt with Sam.

IDK what happen  Kelly and Michael chemistry isn't the same to me it's like Siam is  friends who decided to start sleeping together.I still don't see that chemistry even after all those weekly  sex scenes we get either.

Not to bash--  ME is not that hot mysterious guy with those hypnotic blue eyes anymore  he has to really put the work in now  he can't fall back on those good looks anymore .

That's a great theory and you might be right her boyfriend look older than her father and it was quit obvious in their group scenes together .

I don't care for Sam but I admit KeMo is a chem magnet. They really should have tested her with WDv. I don't buy them as father and daughter.

KeMo is mid 30s and looks it and WDv looks no older than mid 40s.

The only thing I can say about Sam is that at least she seems to be getting more sex with Silas than she ever got with the Borg.

Sam has had more sex in the last month than the entirety of the rest of Port Charles has had in the last year.  I don't view this as a good thing.

PS:  This is my first post at the new forum.  Hi, and I promise to try keep my loathing of the porn-fest that Sam/Silas has become in check.  Apologies to those who are already tired of hearing about it.

IA re Sam and Patrick, they definitely have chemistry. I can't see Sam with a "regular" guy. Maybe that's why she's so dull with Silas.

It would really shake things up if they revisited Sam and Sonny.

I agree about Sam and Patrick. I saw a lot more chemistry between them than I did with either of their current pairings (or obvious future re-pairings, in Patrick's case). Putting them together would lead to some good drama if Robin/Jason come back.

Maybe I just don't watch enough. I am bored with Silas but liked  Mc Bain, even with Sam. I have not always been a Sam fan. A mob moll doesn't do it for me. All I seem to remember about Sam is she didn't want to help Kristina. .I guess if she had she could have blamed her for the death of her daughter.? Most of the show bores me to death.

I've been saying the title phrase about Sam since she fucked Sonny, so it all makes no nevermind to me. Kelly Monaco has been barely awake, seemingly constantly hungover and disheveled for the better part of ten years. Any good pairings or story angles she gets - Lucky, McBain, villainess, Cassadine, fun-loving treasure hunter, etc. - are either erased from on high or systematically destroyed. She had all the potential in the world, still does, but the character's stuck as an eternal dishrag. The only thing more wasteful than dumping her would be keeping her around for more of the same.

Over the years I have definitely felt as if KeMo was on something, Jsbt. & some days it definitely seemed as if she hit the blunt a little too hard before showing up for work.

I'm still stunned about KeMo and Major. Sexual openess and freedom is fine but that is really low rent.

I loved Sam with GV's Lucky, and the first round of Jasam was okay, but the second round of Jasam just wasn't the same. And too by that time Jason had his built in mini harem with Sam, Liz, Carly and a few others as well, who were in constant, if silent, completion with one another over Jason to remind the audience of Jason's awesomeness, in case someone forgot or they were a newer viewer.

I know mileage varies and Siam have their fans, but to me Sam and Silas are a disaster and I suspect the constant sex is supposed to make them interesting to watch, which it doesn't as it makes me turn the channel instead.

Although, I did see some chem between Sam and McBain initially when Jason was acting like a jerk to Sam, but ever since the vampire nonsense, Sam and McBain/Silas have become the anti-chem and Sam has just faded away into the woodwork.

McSileb's smugness and boringness is rubbing off on Sam. She has nothing to do but be his sex toy and yapping chihuahua cheerleader.

The only solution is to break the ugly couple up and let Sam have a story revolving around Julian--or Molly--or Alexis--or darn near ANYONE except McSileb.

She'd be better off seducing Michael or Ric at this point.

I'm beginning to think Sam can't work with a regular guy...Dr, lawyer, cop. She has to have an darker, edgier guy: Lucky,Jason,Sonny. Guys like this..a drug addled, angry mess, a hitman, a mob boss..give Sam some semblance of a core personality. Since she's always game for anything and they are usually doing shady shit, it works out.

Men like that give her energy and spark. If she'swith a dull and boring Sam becomes just as lifeless.

I Totally Agree with that she does need someone to spark off of I've said that myself  Sam character has always work with people with edge that's why I loved all her scenes with Ian even though he was doctor he had edge and a hint of darkness.and that was before it was shown he was a criminal this mess she's in now his boring as hel.l

ME is boring as a doctor. I love him as a vampire, rock star, cop....not a doc.

KeMo was bad ass as a schemer, but now she's sleeping through her scenes. I highly doubt PP would have cared if ME would have been cast as a WSB agent.

I am genuinly baffled that they arent doing Samtrick right now.  The soapy gpodness that would result when Robin & Jason return, especially given Patrick knows Jason is alive, is too good to pass up.

So of course Cartini aren't doing it.  Just like they aren't exploring new familial connections.

They should have done Samtrick from the beginning.  First, with Robin's "death" and Jason's feelings of betrayal that she didn't tell him about Robin, then moved it on with Jason getting kicked into the harbor maybe bringing them closer.  And then add in the complications of Robin's return and Patrick's knowledge of Jaosn being alive.  Hell, I'd have even taken a solid friendship, but no, it had to be ignored in favor of Purina and Sambian.

I honestly don't think Kelly Monaco is phoning anything in - I think this is just her usual level, sadly, where she often is very low-energy or subdued. She only rarely wakes up and becomes really intriguing, IMO; she did with Greg Vaughan's Lucky, when they had her being played as a mix of vixen and comic relief, and she has some occasionally very heartfelt stuff with people like Jason Thompson or Hailey Pullos, but when she's in her "frontburner" level stuff she just sort of fades into the canvas, as a generic heroine. She needs someone really good, or some really fun or different material to bring something exciting out of her. I think she's giving her story with ME her all just as I'm sure she felt she did with Steve Burton, but her all just isn't that thrilling, and the story and pairing with Silas is lame.

This was in June and they still aren't doing them. At least in the way I think you meant.

I was so sure that Sam was going to suddenly welcome Patrick's advancement after RC got Billy Miller on board as Jason. I am still watching with one eye open, but I am starting to breath a little easier. Spoilers give me nothing to worry about on this front either. Maybe RC will shock me and leave SamTrick as they are. Friends.

If he wants Sam's divided affection for Jason and Patrick, he can accomplish that with a SamTrick friendship, they don't have to be screwing for that be a possibility. I hate how much friendships are devalued on soaps and TV in general. A relationship between two people don't need sex to strengthen it.

Aside from whatever contrived triangle with Jason he is setting up, the fallout of Patrick lying to Sam about Jason's whereabouts should have a bigger impact friends. Being lovers would not give the fallout more impact, it'll make the lead in contrived and ruin the impact IMO.

I will be SHOCKED, pleasantly so, if Sam and Patrick's interaction remain as is till the time Jason is revealed.

Speaking of Sam. The girl has no defining personality, the show changes her back story on a whim, propped the shit out of her for years with her r******* brother, the dead baby storyline, and made her a Cassadine because of a picture in the yearbook. This character has been frontburner from day one. Failed pairings with Jax and Sonny in her first year.

She's just a useless, boring character with a lackluster actress who sleepwalks through all her scenes and is shockingly second in airtime for the whole year. I didn't even realize she was on that much because she's like wallpaper to me and just blends into the background when she is on. She sometime has some spark of a personality in the beginning of a scene, but it soons just fades away, like Sam just got tired of speaking, so she sighs and pretty much falls asleep standing up.

The only reason Sam's character was assassinated was because during that time, Kelly was renegotiating her contract, and there were rumors she was leaving. And it was Guzasshole's policy to destroy, annihilate, massacre any wimmen who are leaving the show.

It was also because they were trying their damnest to make Jiz happen. Writers and actors alike.

The girl has no defining personality

She does. I can think of two on top of my head that haven't changed. Her desire to me a mother was the biggest before she had Danny, second is her need for adventure, something that is utilize in her career as a PI.

The fact that she changes is not a bad thing, I'd have a problem if she remained the same character actually.

PS . I read the rest of your post and it is something I'd say about a a character I simply despise played by an actress I don't care for.

"wanting to be a mother" isn't something I'd call a personality trait, though. Adventurous, yes. And the "wanting to be a mother thing" was definitely not always something she wanted either. I could be remembering wrong but I don't recall her being particularly concerned about motherhood until right before the time Liz got pregnant with Jake. Or whenever it was she was shot in the stomach and that's what cause Jason to break up with her and all that led to Liason sex. But in her early years on the show that definitely wasn't any kind of defining personality trait.

But Sam is hardly the only female character, or hell, character in general, who suffers from that who came on in the last decade who suffers from no distinct personality. Probably the best sketched characters that were in introduced in the last decade are Maxie, Spinelli, Dillon, Georgie, and early Dante. Maybe early Patrick as well.

You are remembering wrong, she's wanted to be a mother since she lost her first child. All those things you mentioned happened after the death of Lila. After she's caught the motherhood bug. It had nothing to do with Liz or Jiz. Thank God! She was actually trying for a baby when Liz got pregnant with Jake, but that is another post for when I am truly  bitter.

She lost her daughter within a year or so into her introduction, the yearning for motherhood started during the pregnancy. Most of her actions was defined by that yearning till she had Danny. She was so consistent that she did some stupid shit, like buy babies off black markets, to make it happen. If that is not defining on a soap, then I don't know what is.

If wanting to be a mother is not positive, then it is not negative either. It could be both and in Sam's case it was. I mentioned the black market baby but she was also fiercely protective of Kristina and Michael when they were kids, a trait I credit to her wanting to be a mother. But I was replying to a post that said she had no personality or that she morphs into whatever given her pairings.

I found her interesting with Todd. The scene where she was searching his office and he caught her, there was definite spark there.

I found her interesting with Todd, but only in a cat and mouse scenario.   However, they did have a standout scene when he was blubbering on about his nephew Sam and ended with him hiring her as his secretary, complete with his list of who to put and not put through with his calls.

The only spark I've ever seen her have was with Lucky.  It was even a relationship that worked on a story level.  A Cassadine daughter and a Spencer son falling in lust and then love?  Sign me up. Other than that, I didn't really like her  with anyone (okay, maybe with McBain, but only a little bit and because I really hated JaSam).  I STILL resent the fact they shoehorned her into the Cassadines in the first place. It has never made sense to me that Alexis would have a daughter as a teenager and even less sense that it would be with Julian Jerome.  The only way I ever saw Alexis as teenage and pregnant was with an incestuous rape (Stavros) and her father hiding her away in shame and for her safety from Stavros and Helena.

I'll always resent McBam. He cheated on Natalie, and Sam knew he had a family, yet she'd show up at his doorstep needy and sad over Jason.

I'm not a Roger shipper by any means, but she looked like a deer in the headlights in some of those scenes with him. I guess then she did have to be on her toes with him and not her usual lethargic self.
