Spoilers & Speculation: Running Hot & Cold

I think it might be interesting if they don't address why Sara is there at first. I mean obviously get round to it at some point, but unless it's crucial to the current plot, I'm not that interested.

Having said that Sara and Ray are they two least interesting things about this spin off for me. Although neither puts me off either.

Sara's the main reason I'm watching. (Although I love Victor Garber and Rory) But I'd be OK with us not knowing how she's alive at first for the Spin off. For Quinton and Laural (and perhaps Nyssa if she's still on) to accept it though? They either must not know Sara's returned or Sara has some kind of real or perceived amnesia. Or of course Sara's just a look alike.

They are just filming a teaser probably to air after the Arrow or Flash finale. I'm thinking only Oliver knows or finds out at that point. Going with the theme of these shows if she's Sara and knows who she is, then she probably asks Oliver not tell anyone yet. I know they should've learned that keeping secrets like that help no one but these writers never let anyone learn that lesson.

Because I'm a cynic, I can't help but wonder, what if the CW still hasn't picked up the spinoff? And since there's no pilot, shooting a couple of scenes that show how the group dynamics work, and how the crossover potential works, is the producers' last pitch.

I.think that's a definite possibility. I don't think the CW wil make a decision until they see the ratings and reviews for 118 & 319 Edited by Morrigan2575

The CW hasn't picked up the show yet but I heard they are shooting a sizzle reel to show potential advertisers.

pure speculation. All we know is that they're shooting something spin-off related. Could be a sizzle reel for Upfronts, could be something to show The CW as a final pitch. Could be a teaser for the end of Arrow/Flash promoting the spin-off.

If Sara is confirmed as playing the White Canary, then that supports a theory I posted in the Spoiler Discussion thread (probably unlikely) - that Nyssa dies and Sara wears white because white is the color of mourning/death in some Asian cultures.

The white could also symbolize Sara's own death. (Don't kill Nyssa!)

Well, Upfronts IS when networks present their crop to potential advertisers. That's happening on May 14 for the CW. But they have to pick up the show before showing it to advertisers, even if it's 10 minutes before the presentation.

I think they're wary of the lukewarm reaction to Brandon Routh/Ray Palmer. They were banking on audiences fully embracing him, and it didn't happen. But I also think they might want the spinoff *more* than whatever happens to Palmer this next week on both shows. If he tanks, they can probably still retool the spinoff into less Palmer, more <insert character here>, since it's an ensemble. But for that, it helps to have actual footage.

Routh has to be expensive, too.  For the CW, I mean.  So from the network's perspective, they could end up paying a lot for an actor/character that not only doesn't bring in viewers commensurate with his large paycheck, but instead actually drives them away.  For me, I absolutely will not watch the show BECAUSE he's in it.  Otherwise I would.  I am, obviously, just one person, but based on reviews, etc., I don't think I'm totally alone.

Blech!  Just read a horrifying but slightly plausible way to use RIP Hunter the time traveler to bring Sara back while maintaining the continuity of Sara having actually died.

She's saved an instant before the arrows hit her and brought forward to be part of a team or a specific mission, but is living on borrowed time with the threat of one day having to be returned to that moment before her death so she can still die.

YUCK!!

I think that's the same dumbass premise used for All New X-Mean. Beast brings teen Scott, Jean, Warren and Bobby to the future but the timeline doesn't change because eventually they will return to their original timeline (memory wiped?) So nothing changes.

It's a giant cheat but can't deny it's possible. Of course, the series would/could just never address it (never return her).

I.think that's a definite possibility. I don't think the CW will make a decision until they see the ratings and reviews for 118 & 319

They are promoting 319 with Ray over on Facebook, and he is getting ripped in the comments. There are also a ton of Daredevil comparisons, too, where Arrow comes out lacking. That's not entirely fair as network TV is way different from the Netflix model, but I don't think casual viewers are thinking about that. I'm very interested in how this is all going to shake out.

I'm pretty sure the spin-off is a go for at least one 13 episode run.  At this point, why not do it?  They have a chance to introduce characters that people are getting excited about (Hawkgirl, Rip Hunter) and sell merchandise related to those characters.  It seems worth it even if Ray isn't the most popular character ever.  Besides, they really need to do two things to make Ray work - 1) get him away from Arrow and 2) make him shrink.

I don't mean to toss off all of people concerns, but really, most of those concerns are how he relates to Felicity.  Once he is away from her and contributing to a team show and interacting with what sounds like a very fun mix of characters - people are going to be fine with Ray.  Maybe he won't be the fan favorite (I'm watching the spin-off for Sara and Hawkgirl) but he'll be fine.

The only big thing that people seem to be complaining about that could follow him off Arrow - is that he looks more like Phony Stark than Atom.  So, make him shrink and problem solved. I mean my fiancé doesn't like Ray, but not because of Ray - just because he doesn't belong on Arrow.  I think once he is on a show he is supposed to be on - things will change.

While I do think there's upwards 95% chance this show will get picked up, nothing is guaranteed. Just look at The Wonder Woman pilot.

This is different, this is a team that's already running two successful shows. Wonder Woman was created by a guy nobody trusted (and turned out to be right not to).

If they kill keep killing and resurrecting Sara, she might as well roll on over to Supernatural.

Well, the last time she was killed by a guy famous for playing an immortal, so I'll just pretend he was passing the torch.

Yea but her costume alone sunk THAT show.  I mean seriously, they released photos and we all collectively went, "What the heck is she wearing?!!?!?"  That's not a great sign for a "mask" show.  I was glad that show sunk just because I wanted a WW movie and I was really concerned if the show was bad, we would never get the movie.  I think this show has about a 99% chance of getting at least one run.  I have NO idea if it will get renewed, but the generally vibe seems way more positive than negative to me.

Well, technically, he didn't do it, but I see your point LOL

Thank you for that thought. Can they resurrect Jo as well and then they team up with Charlie for their own spin-off...

I'm not letting go of my female lead Supernatural spin-off LOL

The CW hasn't exactly been chomping at the bit to pick up the show up. Berlanti pitched the spin-off back in August and as late as January Mark Pedowitz was pretty meh on the idea. Contrast that to July/August 2013 when The CW announced The Flash spin-off and made plans for 3 Arrow episodes to serve as an introduction and backdoor pilot.

While I do think this will get up pick up, it's by no means guaranteed. There's several things that can torpedo it, the CW could have a fantastic pilot season, on top of renewing almost every current show (iZombie seems likely for renew). The costs of the new show could be prohibitive, there's no guarantee this show will pull in Flash's ratings and this seems to be a CGI heavy show. There's also the fact that the CW now has 3 DC properties out of a 10 hour schedule, they might not want to become the DC Network.

The CW has renewed eight of its shows. iZombie is probably getting renewed as well. Plus, they've committed to showing Beauty and the Beast until the end of times. They need one new show for an October premiere, maybe two if iZombie gets renewed for another short season. That's it for fall. Then they need a couple of mid-season replacements.

It's math. They've ordered four other pilots besides the spinoff. All of them from producers they either have a super close relationship with [Julie Plec] or big name folk [Marc Cherry. Kurtzman/Orci. Tom Kapinos via JJ Abrams' company]. The spinoff has to be better than at least two of those pilots to get picked up. Without a pilot.

Edit: I mean, I think it will get picked up. But the network is definitely making Berlanti and co. work for it.

I dunno, having read about these pilots, none of them seem like a sure pick. I mean, an anthology? Seriously? I don't buy it.

Crossing my fingers for iZombie renewal, though, it's fun and entertaining and I already love the heroine.

It's not yet clear how many episodes will the renewed shows get. For instance, with The 100, it's probably no more than 16 like this year, and Beauty and the Beast will likely be shown in the summer again. I could imagine iZombie getting 13 episodes again as well, who knows.

I think the show will get a pick up, personally.

This was posted in the spoiler thread, but since the other pictures were posted her. I'll put this one here as well.

I can't really tell if she's wearing white or yellow from the quality of the pic.

I'm leaning more toward grey or silver with a strong yellow light shining on it.  Looks like a high neckline, so not just her old costume (Assuming she's not wearing some random jacket over a costume.)

I don't have much of an opinion on Ray since I have not watched this season of Arrow and have read things about him. I do think his costume looks ridiculous though. The Flash ep this Tuesday will be my first real introduction to him. I am interested in seeing him on the Flash. It's Laurel I'm dreading seeing, I thought I was done with her when I gave up Arrow.
