There's a The Wire marathon on, and Dominic West looks better than I remember. Still not sex on legs (that's reserved for Idris Elba), but better than I remember.

I'd also forgotten that the actor who plays Bruce on The Affair is played by the same one who played Rawls on The Wire.

Oh, hell yes to Idris Elba ... Maybe his former co-stars Dominic West and Ruth Wilson can talk him into coming on The Affair and playing Helen's prior flirtation, Leon. Would love to see Helen get a chance to trade Noah in on a sexier model. Edited by IMCranky

I'm watching a pivotal scene between West and John Doman (who plays Bruce) in The Wire, and it's interesting to contrast it with the one where Bruce admits he thinks about his former student/lover "every fucking day." In both, Doman's character is not a fan of West's (Det. Rawls loathes Jimmy McNulty) but gives grudging respect.

Must admit I am not a huge Ruth Wilson fan.  Her demeanor, that semi-constant sullen bereftness....sorry can't put it in words....just turns me off.   Am watching old episodes of Luther.  She's exactly the same in that show.  At least to me she is.

I just find her lacking in the full dimension of emotions that makes some actors truly great.  She's good at grief, at sullen, at 'mysterious', seductive, at conniving, but lacks spontenaity or joy or silliness.  Can't help but think of Megan Hilty as Ivy Lynn in Smash.  She did it all. Anyway, Wilson is fine.  Good.  But, IMHO, far from great.  Maybe I need to see her in more......

"Similarly, the Alison character became a totally different person than what Treem originally envisioned."

“Ruth is really, really strong,” Treem explains. “And Alison was written to be quite weak, actually. In the beginning, she is just in grief and incredibly passive and disassociated from her own life. And Ruth is the opposite of that. She is incredibly active and very aggressive even sometimes. That was helpful because then we got to kind of watch this character claim her power. To me, what is most exciting about Alison’s journey is that scene with Cole where he says, ‘Come on, let’s make this work.’ And she says, ‘I don’t want to anymore. It’s not worth it to me.’ To me, that was an act of real strength. It was exciting to get her character to a point where it could dovetail with the essence of Ruth.

Re The Wire, I've been reading that they were remastering the whole series for HD, and that now seems to have happened. All five seasons are available in HD on iTunes (and hence Apple TV) as of when I looked a couple days ago. Not sure if the marathon mentioned by Empress consisted of the new HD versions.

I think I first saw Ruth Wilson in Small Island, a miniseries on, I think, PBS. I watched it because I had loved the book, and she was great in it.

"There's this hypothesis in theoretical physics that I used to love back at school, about time travel. About what would happen if you could travel back in time and make a different choice in your past, how that would affect your life in the future. So the theory goes that, um, your true life, your first life, continues as is, unchanged, but at the moment of decision, a new life splits off along a tangent into a parallel universe. So you could, in a way... live both lives. "

Joshua Jackson has joined the cast of Little Fires Everywhere, Hulu's upcoming limited series starring Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington. It's an adaptation of the 2017 best-selling novel by Celeste Ng, and Jackson will be playing the husband of Reese's character on the show.

First look at Joshua Jackson as "Bill Richardson"....no Cole Lockhart beard here. 😂

That dreadful show The Girlfriend Experience was playing in the background (only because I was busy and hadn't changed channels when the movie I was watching ended) and I heard the most extreme case of vocal fry  ever and thought...  where do I know that voice from? I know that voice!

It was the eldest  Solomander, Whitney!  She too has gone blonde.

My TV remote stopped working and some movie with Ben Afleck from 1999 is coming on :Forces of Nature: He's trying to make it across the country in time for his wedding and things go wrong along the way and he meets Sandra Bullock. He's working on writing his vows as he travels. His intended is Maura Tierney, who's sporting smokey eye make up and red lip color!

Unusual  for (but Kudos to)  Hollywood to  cast a bride 7 years older than the groom.
