statsgirl September 8, 2018 Share September 8, 2018 There is tons of research showing that 1) smiling is healthier than crying and 2) biking will keep you living longer and better than driving. But I'm sure there are a lot of people who would mean it. 1 Link to comment
Mary0360 September 8, 2018 Share September 8, 2018 I just finished watching Seirra Burgess is a loser. The only thing redeeming that movie was that it had some good actors trying to make the most out of a problematic script. Id be okay with the same characters in a movie with an entirely different premise that wasn't based around romanticising cat fishing. Link to comment

But I know what you mean! Hehe I don''t know how to ride a bike so I will be travelling on foot and smiling! 1 hour ago, Mary0360 said: I just finished watching Seirra Burgess is a loser. So it’s not any better in the movie? One thing I thought looked interesting is that the trailer gave me the impression that Sierra develops a friendship with the mean girl. Did that come to fruition? Finished The Alienist. I think I’ll have heartburn for days from the stress. 1 Link to comment
Mary0360 September 8, 2018 Share September 8, 2018 23 minutes ago, Mellowyellow said: Did you watch Kissing Booth? Was it worse than that? I wouldn't class it as bad as kissing booth only because kissing booth was both a problematic premise and also just a painfully bad film with bad acting an uninteresting and shallow characters. Sierra Burgess is a loser is a generally decent film until like the last 20 minutes when it all goes wrong. The acting and the characters were likeable enough for me that I was able to forgive the initial premise of cat fishing and just play along with the trope but then they took it to kind of creepy/cringy places and then in the last 15 minutes they just went way OTT in the drama stakes and had the protagonist do something that felt out of character, random and plain nasty and not fitting of the crime. Then they didn't really allow the time in the film to have her work back from that and earn forgiveness. It was all sort of brushed over to rush towards a happy ending. Its definitely more watchable then Kissing Booth and I did enjoy the characters the relationships between characters and the actors I just wish I could watch them in a film where they were following a completely different plot if that makes sense hahaha ? 12 minutes ago, bijoux said: One thing I thought looked interesting is that the trailer gave me the impression that Sierra develops a friendship with the mean girl. Did that come to fruition? That was probably the highlight of the film as well as the fact that they took the typical high school mean girl and fleshed her out and allowed her to grow, which normally doesn't happen in films. It reminded me a bit of the Elle Woods/Vivian friendship in Legally Blonde to start off with. Except it was something that was set up well and then taken and left in a unsatisfying place. 2 Link to comment
Mellowyellow September 9, 2018 Share September 9, 2018 Yay I survived the kidlet's birthday party!!!!! He also managed to stop coughing during the daytime (Triple yay!). Anyways something super shady went down and I'm not sure what to think! So after much discussion the kidlet happily agreed to have "No Presents Please" on his invites and was very much at peace with this. Today people showed up with some very generous gifts (more generous than usual) which left Hubs and I incredibly puzzled. On the way home in the car we tactfully asked the kidlet what has been going on at school. Apparently his friends were asking him why he didn't want presents and he told them "Mummy doesn't believe in presents and plastic." He didn't say anymore but I am now wondering if he told some sob story about his crazy mother at school, leading to a bunch of parents feeling sorry for him and rocking up with massive presents. One kid said to me today "You hate sugar don't you ZZZ's mummy?" Hmmmm 2 Link to comment

I imagine the nuanced conversation about conspicuous waste and consumerism probably lost a lot in translation once it went through 5 year old speak. And both ways. First from your kid to his friends and then their understanding (lack there of) to their parents. There must have been some commonality in their misunderstanding though. That's the curious part. But I like regular grape juice or a mix of grape and cranberry. I don't have a recipe for dumplings but the ones I've had were cooked in the gravy I think and they were moist on the outside and light and airy on the inside. 1 Link to comment

They can sometimes be soggy, depending on how you make them, but the soggy aspect here is not the downside that you'd expect. For a while there I decided Lord Grantham and Dowager Countess judgment of Ethel for being a prostitute was worst then Mary's rejection of Edith but I'm left decided that Carson telling Thomas that he's been twisted into something foul and disgusting and that his world is revolting for being a homosexual takes the cake, as does Obrien for outing Thomas for what seems like no reason but to ruin his life. I wonder what real LGBT people thought watching that episode. Not to mention I have my doubts that homosexuality was such a shocking and out of place thing in the 20's or in the British Aristocracy. Also Im confused by the fact that Lord Grantham was so tolerant about Thomas being gay but was basically doing the upperclass version of slut shaming another servant for going into prostitution to feed her son only an episode or two before. Being gay was illegal in the UK until the late 1960s. It was definitely something that was hidden in the 1920s for fear of being arrested or vilified, probably even more so in one of those big aristocratic houses with such a class divide. Mellowyellow September 25, 2018 Share September 25, 2018 (edited) Would you ever watch a show where you know things end badly for your favourite character? I am watching one of those series like "Reign" (MUCH higher quality with excellent acting, cinematography, costumes so not CW crap) where in history things end very badly for my favourite lady. But it's sooooo good and the actress is wonderful and the series is so well done. I'm wondering if I have the gumption to continue since she comes to a terrible end and it's not the kind of series where they will defy history and give her a HEA. I don't know what to do! I am addicted but I'm not sure how I feel about seeing my favourite character living a tortured life. The best I can hope for is that they give a compelling inside reason as to why history is reported a certain way and her ending is not so terrible..... Anyways! What to do!!!!!???? *** @BkWurm1 check this out about mooncakes! https://img-9gag-fun.9cache.com/photo/aXweE8V_700bwp_v1.webp Go to the pic hun, it won't let me display it! *** Brag: Proud of us because between Hubs and I we managed to buy and assemble a trampoline for the kid! It is a magnificent structure and we are NOT handy people! I am bouncing on it every day to work off the mooncake! He did gymnastics at school and the gymnastics teacher dropped all these hints about how much he looooooved the trampoline (like seriously it was ALL over the PE section of his report, she went so far as to write that he enjoys it so much it would be great if he can access one after this term) so we had to buy it for him. Kymmi September 27, 2018 Share September 27, 2018 Kind of out of the blue, but I haven't been talking to my friends or Facebook about this and I'm still feeling so off. I came down with a kidney stone a few weeks ago that turned to sepsis in a matter of 2 days. I had an emergency surgery and was then in critical care. The strange part of it was not realizing how sick I was. I was released from the hospital after only a three days (likely too soon) and then came home and expected to be all better. Not so. I have been struggling with a lot of anxiety, sleeplessness, and a horrible loss of appetite (lost 25 lbs in 2 weeks, do not recommend). I went back to work this Monday and could barely put in half a day, Tuesday too. I have another surgery scheduled for Monday and went in and saw the team today, and they were all so shocked at how well I am doing. I don't feel like I'm doing well. I don't even feel like myself. It was nice to get confirmation that I WILL get better. But in the same vein, it's hard to hear how sick I was (caught early enough sepsis has a death rate of 30%, and it only goes up from there.) I just want to go to sleep and wake up myself again. Arrow better not disappoint me this season. I NEED something good to happen. :-/ 7 Link to comment

It's amazing (in a really disappointing way) how long it can take to recover from a serious trauma to the body. Things like a high fever or an infection don't feel like they should knock you out for as long and as hard as they do, but fighting to get better burns through so much energy mentally and physically. One of these days you will wake up and not even realize you are back to feeling normal. Til then, keep up the good fight and be kind to yourself. Hugs. 1 Link to comment
