Small Talk: The Prayer Closet

Message added by Scarlett45

This is a reminder that the Politics Policy is still in effect.

I understand with recent current events there may be a desire to discuss political social media posts of those in the Duggar realm- this is not the place for those discussions. If you believe someone has violated forum rules, report them, do not respond or engage.

Political discussion is not allowed in this forum- this includes Small Talk topics. Please stay in the spirit of the policy- I have noticed a tendency for some to follow the letter but not the spirit.

While we understand the frustration (change is never easy), please keep in mind that not everyone feels the same way and that for those members who don't, the ongoing conversation about other forums and chat options can equally be a cause of frustration.

Out of respect for your fellow posters, we kindly ask that you continue any discussion about alternatives via PM or the Technically Speaking: Bugs, Questions, & Suggestions area.

Today is my 47th wedding anniversary and a good day to reflect on all of the changes the world has faced over all of these years. I do feel that overall, my husband and I have been very blessed in our lives together. Wonderful kids and grandkids, some good friends to spend time with, an abundance of dogs and cats over the years. We are fortunate to live in a decent home with bills paid and a nice set of wheels to get around. We are in good health and that is a truly great gift. We've decided on an early dinner at Portillo's . Life is good!

Happy Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary!  Mr lookeyloo and I were talking today about wanting what you have and hoping that is enough to be content and comfortable and secure.  We find ourselves there right now and are grateful.

@oliviabenson - bummer about the lack of cash and dirty clothes. I hope you can get the laundry done soon.

On an unrelated subject - sleep. I read this online and cracked up because I can relate: "Sometimes I toss and turn a bit while I'm sleeping - and then there are times when I rotate like a gas station hot dog."

Which led me down a rabbit hole of memes and quips referring to gas station hot dogs. I'd never been tempted to have one of those, despite my many visits to gas stations on road trips. And now for sure they are forever a hard pass for me. Yikes.

Finally the smoke alarm chirping has stopped.  I was having to wear my ear buds all day and sleep with my noise-cancelling ear buds.  I have hard wired smoke detectors with backup batteries, and, for some reason, the batteries were draining very fast.  The holiday this week meant that I had to endure the noise for a couple of days.  I learned that when they were installed, they used wire nuts that were much to large, so the wires lost electric contact and used up the backup batteries.  I bought new alarms, and these have the push in type connectors, so they can't come loose, and I won't have to endure the constant chirping.  I have high ceilings, so I can't reach, even on a ladder.  The handyman also installed my Simply Safe system, so now I can relax in peaceful quiet this evening.  I was surprised how easy it was to set up.

Even in my small rural community, we get a card for the laundromat and put money on it (with a credit card). We mostly go there to wash large blankets. I hope you get your laundry done soon, @oliviabenson! I'm sure you will.

It would so nice if my landlord let us get small washing machines!  But nope. And  I’m trying to catch up on all my chores. It’s going!

Well, my Simply Safe experience lasted about 24 hours.  Everything was installed properly by an expert, and all was well when he left.  About an hour later the key pad wouldn't recognize the internet, so I moved things around.  That lasted about an hour.  Then the keypad said there was an error with the base.  Called Simply Safe and had that fixed.  A couple of hours later the base started flashing and making noise.  A door sensor had itself turned off.  I called them again and told them to turn everything off.  I took everything down that I could reach, took out all batteries, and I am now packing everything back up.  Their Customer Service was extremely nice, and they sent me a free return label.  I have to have the installer guy come back to get the monitors off that I can't reach, and then back it goes.  I am very disappointed, but I do not need anything else in my house beeping at me or needing attention.  I'm sure this works well for a lot of other people, but I had too many problems in a short amount of time.  Ah, well.  I'll keep looking for something that is more reliable for me.

For those in the bull's eye of this next storm, please be safe and take care of yourself.  Our snow totals are all over the place at this point.  Mr. Six has been on vacation for the last two weeks, and tomorrow would be his first day back since 12/20, but it looks like he'll be working from home at least one more day.  I love the man, but good grief 🫠
