Small Talk: The Prayer Closet

Message added by Scarlett45

This is a reminder that the Politics Policy is still in effect.

I understand with recent current events there may be a desire to discuss political social media posts of those in the Duggar realm- this is not the place for those discussions. If you believe someone has violated forum rules, report them, do not respond or engage.

Political discussion is not allowed in this forum- this includes Small Talk topics. Please stay in the spirit of the policy- I have noticed a tendency for some to follow the letter but not the spirit.

While we understand the frustration (change is never easy), please keep in mind that not everyone feels the same way and that for those members who don't, the ongoing conversation about other forums and chat options can equally be a cause of frustration.

Out of respect for your fellow posters, we kindly ask that you continue any discussion about alternatives via PM or the Technically Speaking: Bugs, Questions, & Suggestions area.

Speaking of Christmas, if you need stamps and want to order them through USPS, please do It very soon.  Our post office is just a small branch of the Baltimore Postal Service, and they don't carry nearly all of the stamps available.  I placed my order through USPS on 11/12/24 and then, they were promptly lost.  I just now received them on Saturday, the 30th.  All orders come from Kansas City, Missouri.

**I always order 100 stamps at the end of the year and include my card stamps in that list.  I also got florals and puppy/kitten options.  This is the first time that it has taken this long to get them here.  #100 stamps are $73 with a processing fee bringing them to $75.55 in total.

My sweet orange kitty is being stand-offish since I returned from several days at my daughter's house. He's usually a lapcat. He's 5 yo, but fairly new to us, so we don't know yet if he's a Christmas tree botherer! We brought in the boxes of Christmas stuff, but haven't put the tree up yet.

My late yellow lab always gave the "are you crazy?" look when anyone asked if she wanted to go outside when it was cold to go to the bathroom.

My cat can't figure out why the fireplace and heater aren't on all the time. He loves the heaters because he can sit or lay on one and look out the backyard. He loves the fireplace most of all. That comes before treats and me his favorite person. He'll lay in front of it happily sleeping. Most of the time he doesn't even notice when I leave. Not even for hours. Since it's been cold he's been his cutest to my dad and me to turn them on. It doesn't always work because it's not as cold as he thinks it is especially during the day.

OK.  Accomplished my really stupid act for today.  I'm anemic, and my fingers get really cold, and when they get cold they really hurt.  I found some very thin heated gloves on line, and they arrived last week.  They are warm, battery operated, and machine washable (without the battery, of course).  They are expensive, but I really like them.  I can use the phone and computer easily, and my hands stay nice and warm.  Anyhow, I am doing laundry this morning, and I picked up some cloth napkins off my chairside table and started a load of wash.  Then I realized that there was only one glove on the table.  The glove can go in the wash, but not the battery!  So I stopped the wash and tried to find the glove in the water, but I couldn't find it.  Then I found it on the floor next to the chair.  So I now I'm sitting her with warm gloves, but also with a cold, wet sleeve.  Luckily, everything dries very fast here (very low humidity in the air), so I should be dry in a half hour or so.  Moral of the story, be sure to pay attention to what goes in the wash!

Where did you find the gloves? My hands/fingers get really cold too (even when other parts of me are sweating - what a joy! 😳) and so do my mom’s. I would like to check them out.

They are called Toasty Touch.  They are ultra thin gloves with a battery.  According to their site, they were developed by someone who has Raynauds who could not find thin, washable gloves.  They are machine washable--without the battery pack--and are super thin.  They have three heat settings and rechargeable batteries.  I'm not sure if they are a US or Australian company.  They are expensive ($130), but they are actually useable because they are so thin and flexible, unlike glove liners.  So far I am very happy with them. Just search for Toasty Touch.

Glad you're safe. How far are you from the epicenter?

I'm guessing about 50 miles.  Apparently people in San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Madera counties felt it, too.

Just got a text alert (thankfully not that LOUD alarm) that there was just another one at 4.0.  The ornaments are not swinging on my Christmas tree, so I don't think we felt it here.  Did you feel the Eureka quake a few days ago?  I understand some places were under tsunami warning for a short time.

We didn't feel the Eureka quake, but we were under the tsunami warning.

Fishing line works wonders to keep the tree upright. Our placement was always near a window so we tied it to the drapery rod. My daughter is putting a dog fence across access to the tree due to new puppy.

My grandfather did that when I was a kid.  He put eye screws into the walls at top-of the tree level and attached fishing line to the tree, pulled the ends through the eye screws and tied it tight.  Worked very well.

We decided to put away our tall, artificial tree and to put our smaller tabletop fiber optic tree in the living room. I put away all the breakable ornaments and dressed the tree with only soft ornaments. The cat has not gone near it! In fact, he likes to lay under the table it's on, because there is a heating vent there. He seems less stressed because the rest of the living room now has the furniture in the usual places and he has better access to look out the window. Weirdly, I am also less stressed. We had a nice time watching White Christmas while we redecorated! It's all good! 🎄

I had a 20 pound climber. We ended up with three lines for him.  My daughter sent a photo of the new puppy --- in the dishwasher.

I opened the microwave, and when I turned around to put something in my cat was sitting in it.  I don't know she jumped in there so fast.

My sister had a boyfriend for a while who got up for a midnight snack one time. My sister got up in the morning to find her kitten in the fridge because he had leapt in when the boyfriend wasn't looking. The kitten was fine but she dumped the boyfriend (not just because of this).

You're not helping with reasons not to get another cat.  Dog lovers need not apply.

I know a lot of people are stressed, but it seems like Christmas is a time when one shouldn't be.  (Easy for me to say, I know, since I don't celebrate.)  I'm glad you and your kitty found a way to enjoy your tree trimming this year - hope you remember it next year!

Has anyone else had problems with this website.  Yesterday it was all jumbled up and I couldn't get to any site.  Then Primetimer wouldn't open at all.  Then back to the jumble, then back to not opening at all.  Then it was normal, then all jumbled up again.  Every other site on my computer was normal.

Yes, Primetimer was a mess yesterday. It's all good today!

Yes and at one point I got a notice that the certificate (for encryption)  had expired and it was not safe. Today it worked and the certificate had been updated to be valid through March 22, 2025.

Yes, I couldn’t access it at all and just stayed away for most of the day.
