WendyCR72 November 2, 2014 Share November 2, 2014 Evidence is revealed during a seemingly routine house fire that demands the attention of the police, triggering the arrival of Det. Voight and Det. Lindsay. Meanwhile, Mills mulls over an off-duty gig. A little over a week early, since there's no new episode this week. But now I don't have to remember to do it later on! Link to comment

2KllMckngBrd November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 Still haven't decided if I'm breaking up w/this show. It has sucked all season, but this episode wasn't bad. I reserve judgment till after sweeps. But in the meantime here we go. Cruz sitch was funny as hell. Severide getting married? Meh. His bride looks familiar but haven't placed yet (seems like some sort of prison show, and maybe something on usa or tnt). She clearly has some other BS going on. Haven't figured out yet if it's her crap that has Severide racing to put her in the will, or if all of that is just an anvil leading to the bye bye Severide. Still don't care about faux Shay (I refuse in protest to learn her name). Glad to see that 51 still has hostility towards Voight. I may love him now, but it's so dead on for them to still give him the side eye. Wonder if mills is the 1 to die. But can't see why Lindsey would be crying in the promo pics. Gabby still sucks. But a little less. Casey's support of his friend, and poo-pooing Gabby was fun to watch. I wondered how they would work Chicago Fire into the crossover week. Obviously SVU and Chicago Pd was easy. And tonight they confirmed my fear. They really couldn't do it. From my twitter timeline they probably increased the shows viewers, but only b/c SVU and CPD folks didn't want to miss something important for tomorrow night. So I guess the winners will be both Chicago shows b/c to see the finale you have to watch CPD. But the Chicago Fire leg of the journey was a fail. It was creepy as hell when Severide looked down and the camera focused in, but other than that... Call the police really doesn't count as "crossing over". 3 Link to comment
Chas411 November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 So by crossover week what they really meant was that SVU/PD would just eat into the last five minutes of Fire in a seperate storyline. I don't really care. I don't think they could have legitimately pulled off a Fire crossover anyway and 41 minutes of everyone on Fire dealing with child pornography would be way too much. I liked the episode as it was. It was my favourite in a while. I really wish they'd surprise me with Brett and have her hook up with Mills/Cruz or anyone else instead of going for the predictable route of falling for Severide. I feel like they're trying to do a redux of season one Dawson and Casey. I don't find her awkwardness around him or his new wife cute or rootable. It's just another reminder that Shay was killed off because the writers didn't want to write a gay character anymore and that's the reason we have Brett. I honestly don't mind Brett in some scenes. I thought her sideplot with Cruz was funny and I'm enjoying her budding friendships with both Mills and Dawson. I do get irritated when the show starts trying to play the Severide/Brett card though. Sevreide giving Dawson some home truths eh? I think he's right that she's running away from her own wedding. I don't doubt she loves Matt but whether the reason is Shay's death or her career ambitions, I don't think she;s gunning to get married right now. I felt her speech to Matt about how she'd get married right away if she could was more her trying to convince herself. I also noticed she was ready to go on the attack and get mad at him but thankfully he managed to calm her down before she went off on one. I could not have dealt with one of her rants so thank god for that. Again, I have absolutely loved Severide's ongoing storyline this season and Taylor Kinney continues to knock it out of the park. It was great seeing him happy and on a high but you can still the sadness beneath the surface, ready to come out at any moment. I liked that the house while obviously concerned have gotten behind him as they want to see him happy. I appreciate Matt's attitude toward it but also can see Gabby's point on the matter. I like Brittany though. She's obviously dealing with grief (a husband or child maybe) so I'm hoping that they try to help each other before inevitably parting ways. Cruz as a Zumba instructore... yes, yes, yes! 2 Link to comment
AnalyzeAndCritique November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 I gave up on Fire although I still watch PD. Did I miss Severide breaking up with Lindsay? I hated how they intertwined the show since I can't be bothered with Fire. Dawson still bugs. All the replacement girls look like Shay. I liked Molly's (the bar), what is Molly's 2? Link to comment
Crs97 November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 (edited) If I remember correctly, they were supposed to be on a date and he stood her up to go on a bender. When he finally arrived she was leaving the restaurant and told him she wouldn't date him when he was like this. She said she could help him mourn Shay only as a friend. ETA: Oh, and Mollys 2 is a food truck. Edited November 12, 2014 by Crs97 1 Link to comment

Calamity Jane November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 For me, this was the best one so far this season. Loved Cruz, loved Mouch trying to counsel Severide, didn't mind Gabby too much, wasn't nearly as bugged as I expected to be by the Vegas wedding. Keep it up, maybe there's hope. Oh, and are we getting a Chicago Medical show? They were dropping that name a lot again this time. Link to comment

MaryHedwig November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 (edited) Cruz the Zumba teacher was hilarious. Loved that too! Hard to understand why Cruz is still a lonelyheart with all that female attention there. Wouldn't one of those Zuma girls be up for a night on the town with him? So how much does a Chicago Firefighter get paid? Casey is moonlighting in construction. Dawson, Hermann, Otis are moonlighting at Molly's. Cruz is moonlighting at Molly's 2 (to be) and teaching. Mouch is part of Molly's 2 too. Newhouse has a bounty hunter business and is roping Mills in. Capp works at garage sales (kidding here, I know he was helping his mother.) I think Mouch needs to negotiate a better salary package. Doesn't Newhouse work for squad? If so, shouldn't Mills have gone to Severide and not Casey with his idea of raising money for Newhouse's daughter? Giving the money to Newhouse at Molly's was my favorite part of the episode. I live for the weekly scene where they all unite as a brotherhood (often done in an ER waiting room.) I loved Dawson and Casey's expression when they were at home hearing the newlyweds giggle in the other room. D and C looked like a couple comfortable with one another -- something we don't see often enough. I am glad the Chicago Fire did its part to kick off the crossover but do not obligate the CF-only fans to keep watching the other two shows. I get enough information about child predators from the newspaper, thank you. Edited November 15, 2014 by MaryHedwig 1 Link to comment
iMonrey November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 So how much does a Chicago Firefighter get paid? I imagine they're paid pretty well, but it's true that most fire fighters work other jobs, because they have so much time off between shifts it's easy for them to do. They have the best unions in the world and get more vacation time and non-working time than any other job you can imagine. They can sometimes go weeks between shifts. This episode wasn't nearly as bad as I feared, and truthfully I was dreading this whole cross-over bull. So I was quite surprised that by the halfway mark we still hadn't had any Chicago PD intrusions, and really all they ended up doing was using the last few minutes of the episode to launch the cross-over storyline. If they have to do these dumb cross-overs (and I maintain they don't), then this is definitely the way to go. Pretty solid episode overall, and of course the best part was finding out Cruz was teaching the Zumba class (I hope that's how you spell it; I've never even heard of that before). That was LOL hilarious. And honestly, one of the things that made this episode so good was minimal Casey and Dawson. Just so tired of them. I was a little confused at the end when Casey and Brittany were outside of Molly's, it almost seemed like they decided to end or annul the marriage, but I might have missed part of the conversation. 1 Link to comment
redsox7819 November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 (edited) I looked on Joe Minoso's (Cruz) twitter and he retweeted an EP who said that during his audition he told them he was a Zumba teacher. betsyboo November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 As much as i think this marriage was a knee-jerk response by Kelly to Shay's death, i still felt bad for him that nobody except Casey has his back. They all thought he was joking. (I know Casey put in the pool, too - at least he gave him 6 weeks.) Shut up Gabby. You don't get to lecture anyone about their relationships, Miss-GoKissMills-when-Casey-didn't-respond-as-you-wanted. thhhbbbppptttt The wife is played by the actress who was a regular on Graceland (USA) and was a convict on Breakout Kings (TNT), as other have pointed out. I think she must have lost a child and was in Vegas to drown her sorrows. Cruz + Zumba = gold. I almost get getting caught up and getting married in Vegas on a whim, but then you move to a new town with no friends, no job, no support other than the new husband? big leap of faith. 1 Link to comment
Texasmom1970 November 12, 2014 Share November 12, 2014 Was not really blown away by this episode. Full discosure it might be because I am not that invested in the characters. I only watched because of the Chicago PD nd SUV crossover. I recognized Severide from his brief fling or whatever with Lindsey. Hopefully the rest of the crossover episides will be better. It felt like a cheap ploy sticking Lindsey and Voight in for a few minutes. Guess they are trying to boost ratings and get viewers. Link to comment

loriro November 13, 2014 Share November 13, 2014 eh... I was less-than-impressed with this episode. I don't like the show runners' attempts to make "new-Shay" REALLY a NEW Shay (but straight, so of course she can ultimately have the relationship with Severide that real Shay wouldn't ever have). And that whole subplot bothers me b/c otherwise, I could come to like Sylvie. And as much as I really do love Severide, the Severide-gets-married storyline is not only as predictable as the sun setting in the west (once he went to Vegas... but of course. The ONLY redeeming part is that they DIDN'T send Sylvie with him and thus spared us from THEM getting married...), but it's also kind of obnoxious. I know that the show runners killed off Shay at least in part because they thought her death would have ramifications for the other characters (particularly Kelly and Gabby), but this to me is not the way to go. I'm not liking the direction of Kelly's character right now. And not in a "he's so lost without Shay...what's he going to do" way, but in a "this is just too stupid to care about" way. I liked his chemistry and relationship with Erin and would have liked to see how that progressed. But subtlety and exposition is obviously not in the show runners' vocabularies, because it was over and done with in a blink of an eye so Kelly could move on to "marital bliss". Not to mention that the suspense isn't even there because we know there's no way it's going to last. So come on and get it over already. Lest you think I didn't like anything -- Cruz the zumba instructor was in fact priceless. Link to comment
CaughtOnTape November 13, 2014 Share November 13, 2014 I got a creepy stalker vibe from the new wife. Couple that with the line about him saving her life and yeah.....I'm thinking we're in for some "She goes nuts when he wises up and realizes getting married was stupid" action. Either that or she slashes her wrists and he finds her dead....thus sending him further into depression central. Link to comment
MaryHedwig November 14, 2014 Share November 14, 2014 (edited) I got a creepy stalker vibe from the new wife. I got no good vibes from her either. Of course, when I first met her at the craps table I thought she was a prostitute. Didn't she bump into Serverdie "accidentially" intentionally? I even wonder if her story will end with a Chicago PD crossover. The more I think about it, Casey or someone from his squad really should have accompanied Serveride to Vegas. Boden should have even "ordered" someone. Serveride was in no position to make wise decisions there. I was more concerned that he was going to blow whatever nest egg he had built up or murder someone in a bar fight but it should have been clear to his "brotherhood" that no good was going to come from the trip without a buddy there. Shouldn't Boden have had his kid by now? Edited November 15, 2014 by MaryHedwig Link to comment

MaryHedwig November 15, 2014 Share November 15, 2014 (edited) I'm thinking it could be a black widow plot line. It seemed odd that adding her to his pension was so urgent. I could see it. I do believe the pension urgency was a Chekhov's gun (something placed in the story to be used later.) I was wondering if she or her kid is dying of cancer and Severide wants to make sure his insurance will pay for the medical expensives, at least that is what Severide believes is going on. There is no way that union is going staying together for the long haul. I wonder how many of Papa Severide's wives were found by a Vegas crap table. They have the best unions in the world and get more vacation time and non-working time than any other job you can imagine. They can sometimes go weeks between shifts. My ex-brother-in-law was a firefighter. His usual routine was 24 on then 72 off. (Yes, an extremely good union!) What 's more, he could trade shifts with other guys and once went a month without working a shift for a foreign vacation. I have yet to encounter a firefighter that does not have another job/small business on the side. Link to comment
Dowel Jones November 16, 2014 Share November 16, 2014 The reason for the odd shifts like that often reverts back to FLSA, which requires overtime after 40 hours per week, except for the 7k exemption ( section 7k of the Act) for firefighters and some law enforcement personnel, which requires overtime after 216 hours in a 28 day work period. Thus, some agencies find it cheaper to use the 1/3 or 2/4 shift, as a 1/3 only requires 168 hours and a 2/4 requires only 192 hours. I think FDNY works actual 40 hour weeks, and, from the time these guys all spend at the bar, I was under the impression they only worked 8 per day also. Then again, when you have the bar as a plot device, you have to make use of it. What I didn't get, if this is the case, is why Newhouse would take on an extremely risky job as a bounty hunter, excuse me, bail enforcement agent, when any slight injury would put him off the job (no workers comp, either), and potentially end his career. No, I do't have another job. I like my days off, when I get them. Personally, I think the use of crossover plots tend to signify a sinking show, almost like stuntcasting. It amost seems like the writers are throwing spaghetti on the wall, hoping one of the plotlines will stick. Link to comment
