catrox14 February 9, 2018 Share February 9, 2018 (edited) I wouldn't call it a beast. Not even for the CW. It's dropped to third in ratings after Black Lightning. It performs well enough to not be cancelled. But beast is overstating things ratings wise The boat is staying afloat in spite of Dabb. It's the loyal viewers who are not ready to let go of The Winchesters and Castiel who keep it afloat, sho suffer the crap storylines just to see TFW. I find it telling that viewers dropped out halfway. Guess that's what happens when you focus too much on Lucifer and not TFW. Edited February 10, 2018 by catrox14 cleaning up typos 5 Link to comment

Without a doubt and third place in whole network is impressive and Black Lightning in it's first season barely beats SPN--SPN by end of year most likely will edge it. That said you are of course entitled to the view on the quality--we all have differing opinions on that. Edited February 9, 2018 by Jakes 4 Link to comment

I think of a ratings beast as something like the Walking Dead which draws 6 to 10 million per episode on a basic cable network. Now, for the whole show, for its lifespan, in total with DVD sales and mdse etc yes it is a beast. I just don't think for me it counts as a beast in ratings, which doesn't mean it sucks either. And I'm not saying that before anything gets twisted into something I didn't say. Edited February 10, 2018 by catrox14 2 Link to comment

catrox14 February 14, 2018 Share February 14, 2018 This is some good stuff from a fellow commenter in the Arrow forum. It's mostly about the Arrowverse but some good food for thought re SPN renewal. I know Pedowitz is in the show's corner or at least pushes it to 'if the boys do it, it keep going" 48 minutes ago, quarks said: (blinks) 1. No, the CW is not very good at letting their shows know when they plan on ending them - several showrunners have been very clear on this point. The CW didn't, for instance, let Reign know that the fourth season would be its last until after Reign had scripted its season finale - leaving Reign scrambling and ending up needing to make an emergency casting call and writing its series finale scenes on set. I mean, yes, I think we can all agree that Reign really should have seen that cancellation coming, but they didn't. Reign is hardly the only CW show to make this complaint. 2. No, it's not a huge selling point to Netflix to have shows with proper endings. This includes their own in-house shows - the Sense8 guys had to actually fight to get a proper ending (though, to be fair, that was partly because that was an extremely expensive show). With the CW specifically, Netflix has said that Arrow and Flash are two of their more popular shows, and are streamed more than The Vampire Diaries - even though as of right now, neither has a proper ending. 3. The CW doesn't need to inform WB Television or CBS Television Studios of their renewal decisions until a couple months prior to filming - one reason why their decision a few years ago to announce renewals in January took everyone by surprise; they didn't need to make those announcements until April or even May. Same thing is true for all of the Arrowverse shows. All that said, given that Berlanti is currently providing a good half of the CW's original content, the CW presumably will want to give him a bit more of a heads up. Or Berlanti might want to make sure that Arrow and the other DC shows get some sort of proper ending, and try to work out some sort of timing thing with the CW in advance, so that everyone knows, going in, that season 7/8/whatever is the last. Or not - given the Arrowverse setup, Arrow could easily have an unplanned "whoops, we got cancelled" ending, and have its actual goodbye/ending over on one of the other shows. Sure, I think Arrow fans would be upset, but the structure is there. Link to comment

I loved Elementary especially the first 3 seasons. I lost track of it when they moved it to Sundays :( Walking Dead averages 6 to 12 million and I think GoT averaged 10 to 12. BBT and Greys are around 12 to 14 million. GoT probably won't be back until 2019 so there's that. Also, IMO there is are crossover audiences for SPN, Walking Dead and GoT. gonzosgirrl February 15, 2018 Share February 15, 2018 It's too bad the 'live' viewership has so much weight in the ratings. There is very little I watch live apart from SPN (for tweeting) and This Is Us (so as not to be spoiled). Even in this forum. It was not 100% well received and embraced by all of fandom. Even those that want WS don't necessarily want the Claire show. Then there is the network who is looking at Kathryn Newton as the star. Some fans love Claire. Others don't. Extrapolate that into the wider SM world of Twitter and Facebook. IMO, if they are doing fair research on this, TPTB should pay attention to both the negative and positive feedback; look at what fans of SPN and WS liked and didn't like about the set up to the spinoff They have a real challenge IMO to decide how to handle it going forward. As @bozodegama noted there are WS fans who want nothing to do with SPN so they aren't going to watch SPN ahead of WS thus it being a lead out does nothing for SPN. And it could harm it if it drops lower than Arrow numbers. There are a lot of SPN fans who want nothing to do with the spinoff, so they aren't going to tune in even if it's on immediately following SPN ergo IMO, it doesn't behoove either SPN nor WS to be on the same night. Wayward Son February 15, 2018 Share February 15, 2018 Historically the CW has avoided pairing mother shows with their spin offs. If I recall correctly Arrow aired on Wednesday nights when the Flash debuted on Tuesday nights and I believe the originals aired on Tuesday nights while the vampire diaries stayed on Thursday. Although they did eventually pair those two on Friday nights. So I’d say based on CW history SN and WS probably won’t be paired together. 1 Link to comment

The avg demo for TWD this season is 6.72 with 13 million viewers. TBBT is only pulling in a 2.92 in the demo and around 14 million viewers. Yes, I know more viewers but they're outside the demo so they don't count ? GoT is 3.85 in the demo and 7.69 million viewers. Of course another big ratings show is Sunday Night Football, 6.1 in the demo and 18 million viewers. Compare that to Thursday Night Football at 4.5 demo and 14 million viewers. I'm not sure why people latched on to the idea that Arrow would to Sundays. I'd expect a more female skewing or a family shpw, Wayward Sisters, Supergirl, Charmed or that new Berlanti drama about the HS Football star in Beverly Hills on Sundays 1 Link to comment
