Per Velocity on the Arrow board the Thanksgiving episode will not count towards yearly ratings.

Huh. That's interesting. I don't understand why they wouldn't. It's part of sweeps. Weird.

I’m so happy the episode kept the 0.6! Of course it’ll be hard to guess properly until the unrounded ratings come out, but here’s hoping the high viewer count is a sign we won’t adjust down :)

Viewers went up as well.

Guess that boycott by some viewers didn't really work out so well LOL

I thought this was the last week of Sweeps? I could have sworn I remember someone ( @SueB maybe?) posting that Sweeps began with episode 3 and will end with this week’s episode.

And I guess while #MySupernatural is not the Supernatural of those boycotting #MySupernatural matches the Supernatural of most casual viewers ;)

Hmm that could be.  Seems weird though that the DCTV x over event isn't being used for their ratings period.

I don’t watch DCTV, but I do like to watch ratings in general and IIRC last year the other DC shows were propped up to Flash levels for the crossover. However, the Flash received no boost from it, and the other shows dropped right back to their normal levels the following week.

I think it will be largely the same this time. I mean, I`m really looking forward to the x-over but I already regularly watch all four shows. If I didn`t, I`m not sure one sample that is not gonna be representative of the show in its normal state would sway me to do so.

Ratings might be more interesting this year because the events plays out over only two nights, basically back-to-back whereas last year it was four consecutive nights. The more condensed version might be more appealing to watch. But in this case, people probably wouldn`t care to watch random other shows on other nights.

It's the last week for Supernatural, but next Wednesday (November 22) is the last day of November Sweeps. So, the crossover event will still be sweeps for all the DC shows on the CW except for Arrow. Which kinda sucks for Arrow since they seem to be struggling a bit this year and could use a little crossover bump for sweeps.

ETA: Apparently I was on the wrong week for the crossover event, but the last day of sweeps is November 22.

Thanks for clarifying!

Also the unrounded ratings are out!

Supernatural ................................. 0.647 ... (0.679 ... 0.614)
Arrow ............................................ 0.463 ... (0.479 ... 0.446)

Sooo close to the 0.65 needed to round up to a 0.7! I would just love to see #MySupernatural tick up this week!

But the x-over event doesn`t air next week but during the week after that and Arrow will move to Monday for that event to have a Supergirl-Arrow, followed by Flash-Legends block. So if November 22nd is the last day of Sweeps, all shows will air the x-over event outside of sweeps, won`t they?

So SPN and Arrow fall out of that as well as the DCTV X over. Curious.

This is correct. So I wonder if the nature of the Xover premise with the Crisis on Earth X leaves them thinking it won't get as many viewers or they just don't care about sweeps anymore?

Okay, I'm sorry, I haven't been watching any of them this year and got my weeks mixed up--I was just going by the end date for sweeps. Yeah, none of them should qualify for sweeps. It is weird they did the crossover event outside of sweeps, then. But, then again, the CW seems to be thinking outside of Nielson more these days, so maybe it's not as strange as it seems?

I don't think the crossover has ever been during Sweeps Week, I always thought it was dumb that they left it out.

I haven't kept up on most of the shows since mid-season last year, but I was trying to remember, have all the big crossover events been the week before the mid-season finale? It could be they feel like it helps drive viewers into the mid-season finale?

Well, last Season was the first time they attempted a big x-over, before (and since) that it was just Supergirl/Flash, but yes, it was the show`s respective episodes before the mid-Season Finales as well. I think it might have to do with logistics. This x-over took 6 weeks to shoot and the stars had to be freed up from their own shows to varying degrees. This episode marker might be the only way they can really get it in without hopelessly screwing up schedules, budgets and over-exhausting the principal actors.

Wasn't their first big crossover event (other than just The Flash/Arrow or Supergirl/The Flash or Arrow/Legends of Tomorrow) before Supergirl was moved to the CW? Seems like they did a big event with The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow I remember seeing, but it's been a while and, TBH, none of those show really engaged me much so I don't remember them very clearly.

Anyway, you're probably right about the scheduling and such, though. Those episodes are beasts to get done so it makes sense.

There was Flash and Arrow stuff previously but the first x-over ever with Supergirl and Flash was back when the former was still on CBS. It was a highly promoted stunt back then so you might remember it from that. Then when the show moved to the CW last Season, they attempted a big x-over, well three shows and Supergirl wasn`t really involved, just the episode tag. This year is the first "all four shows event" which makes it even bigger.

Well, I can understand it. A lot of people were disappointed and felt cheated last year that it wasn`t a true x-over event for all shows despite early publicity selling it as such. They were wise not to repeat that move.

If Wayward gets picked up and the two shows run concurrently, I predict at least 1 x-over episodes per Season. It`s a studio/network dream and probably the production crews` nightmare.  :)

SPN adjusted up to a 0.7

So Supernatural is easily the second highest show on the CW next to Flash and this episode keeps SPN equal to its premiere episode.  Totally amazing in its 13th year and a nice showing for  what everyone knew was the full return of Cas with the boys.

It's possible I'm just tired tonight, but I don't remember seeing anything about a boycott?  What did I miss?  Anyway, I'm glad the show is doing so well this season.  I feel bad that Cas' big return episode was kind of a stinker.  Fans tuning in to see the big reunion deserved something better, IMO.  Hopefully, they'll  stick around.

I don't recall a boycott too from anyone.

Very curious about thanksgiving next week. How the ratings go, since it's the first time ever they have programmed then. Curious why they didn't skip the week and extend mid-season final a week later to Dec 14 as they would always normally do.

The #MySupernatural tag on Twitter will explain it although some people co-opted it to make positive. It's fans who are  pissed that Cas and Dean were featured in the promo stuff more than Sam and Dean.

I'm seeing a lot of positive feedback on SM even if it's not a perfect episode. The reactions I watch have all loved the episode for the most part minus some minor things.

That explains it. I try to stay away from Twitter as much as possible.

Good Lord...some people really need to get a life.  It was Cas' big return, so of course he was going to figure prominently in the promos.  In the show itself, however, I think his time with both Dean and Sam was pretty equal. Of course, that probably ticked off the other side.  I'm with you, Res, I can't get too caught up in whatever Twitter battle is going on.  There's enough real world crap happening.

Ironically it may have backfired on them and got more people to tune in just to see what the hubbub was about? These things do tend to spitball sometimes.

It's funny too, because they actually admitted that unless you're a Nielsen family, you don't impact the ratings, so they started the #MySupernatural to presumably affect the Nielsen Social media ratings but AFAIK that only tracks #Supernatural tag and SPN trends for 3 hours before and 3 hours after the episode airs in a particular timezone.

The whole thing was an amusing fustercluck. LOL

I'm always rooting for this show.  But not this week.  Dick's directing was ok I guess, but the NepDuo plot was beyond embarrassing.  I hope everyone ate turkey and celebrated with family.  I hope no one watched this travesty.

I’m anticipating a series low of 0.3 - 0.4. Not because of the episode itself, but because of it being Thanksgiving. The good or is it bad news? Is the fact Neilson and the networks have said they’re not counting last nights rating in show related statistics. All the shows that aired tonight not just Supernatural I mean.

At this point, they had to. At least with Arrow, otherwise they wouldn`t have made the x-over schedule work as Arrow`s new episode airs on Monday already. No room to fit in episode 7, other than Thanksgiving. And if they air one show, they might as well air both.

For that, the ratings are even pretty okay IMO.

Actually the travesty was much better than being with family, for me. And I'm still agreeing that it was a travesty. Lol!

Doesn't surprise me the ratings were that low, I was expecting it. What does CW think. Oh well, next week will be back to normal.

CW could of just as easily scheduled the crossover episode a week later, I mean they have in the past aired two episodes into December, and some past crossover's did air in early December. Oh well.

I'm curious if SPN/WS will have some sort of crossover event. Knowing CW, they will likely program it in the same week as DC for a mega CW crossover week lol funny that Buffy and Angel did these, but they never did any true crossovers having both teams together, as the shows progressed they stopped doing them altogether.

are practically joyous with the 0.3 and stating it's all because of Cas and ignoring of the brothers etc.

By that logic, episodes where the brothers were less in - and there those, last episode still have them a semi-decent amount of screentime compared to others - or much more Cas-focused episodes should have done even worse in ratings.

And of course the ghost truck episode will forever be the ratings champion of this show on account of the night it aired on.

This was clearly due to Thanksgiving. I`m okay with them putting such a stupid, neglectable episode on that night but claiming Thanksgiving wasn`t the biggest factor is just silly. If not for that, I think it would have pulled the usual 0.6/07.

Logic and the bronly anti-Cas crowd on twitter are often two things that don’t go together. The fact Neilson have said they won’t count Thanksgiving ratings should be enough to show its an actual factor, but alas like I said logic and those people don’t go together.
