S03.E01: The Weekend in Paris Job

Recommended Posts

Of course Parker was happy about the catacombs and Hardison wasn't. I was hoping Eliot would make a Librarians reference about the room of human skulls.

I love that Hardison not only has tried the Vulcan neck pinch but keeps on trying it. Of course he would.

The reaction from the woman in the vault when the floor started moving and hole. Yeah that's something you don't expect to see.

I'm a surprised Sophie tried to steal something to give to Astrid for her birthday. It's seems like she'd know that's a bad idea for someone who works for Interpol. Parker, yes. Astrid? A "normal" person no.

Pretzels

I looked it up Harry has a beard because his new show the Pitt was done the same time as Leverage Redemption season 3. I wonder if that means we're not going to see much of Harry and why he was listed as guest star.

My understanding was that she didn't try to steal something for Astrid, she
gave Astrid a beautiful ring from her collection, which she'd already stolen 20 years ago. She gave it on the assumption that Astrid wouldn't realise it was stolen, since so much time had passed - but Astrid knows Sophie better than that, so of course she did realise.

Welcome back, show! During that last scene with Hardison and Parker I thought how beautiful their relationship has been handled and how I'll never forget the pretzels scene and *bam* they went there!

As usual the heist details better not get too much scrutiny but I loved all the little grace notes when it came to the characters. Most have already been mentioned so I'll just add Elliot's outrage about having to toss Limagne Valley Flour on the Russian henchmen. (I checked flour from Limagne - it is considered to be high quality.)

Another detail and commentary on current events: the tiny owl being robbed from Ukraine.

I was getting the sense that the audience might be being prepared to learn that this  is the  last season anyway -- we've already heard the most of the characters talking about doing different things or going different ways. 🥲

I'm worried about this as well. We've got Hardison talking about retiring and Harry & Bianna are doing "legit" things as well.

So did I. I hope not I need Leverage. Even more given how messed up things are in the country.

Three episodes in, this season feels very different from seasons 1 & 2.

It does seem to be preparing the audience for a series end.

Nate was the character that drew me to the original Leverage, so I never want to disrespect the character or his memory. But I was enjoying the dynamic between Harry and Sophie, so it was jarring to see the shift from that to “Harry and Sophie are both on dating apps, but are looking elsewhere and will only be each other’s wingman.

I think what I’m finding more jarring is part of (IMHO) the strength of the original Leverage and Redemption season 1 & 2, has been the concept of ‘found family’.  But this season of Redemption seems to be busting the family’ apart and just leaving them as co-workers.

I completely respect that the cast are ready to move on with other projects, have breakout projects already in flight. But I would rather see this series end with the whole team together, gearing up for their next job, than this slow ‘oh, everyone is drifting away’ storyline.

The best endings are where you can imagine the characters continuing on their adventures together. They nailed it the first time and it would be disappointing if they didn't this time. 🤞

I like how at the end Sophie finally got the better birthday gift for Astrid.

But did the one bad guy get his owl back at the end?  wasn't part of the heist to take it away from him?

Definitely appreciated Elliot being upset at ruining the Limagne flour.

How does the one town recover even if the water in the tanker is put back in the acquifer?  is that really enough?

But since The Pitt has taken off, I don’t think he’ll be around for the season after this one.

I think it's possible for him to do both if they stagger the filming schedule. He films The Pitt, has a bit of time off, then films Leverage. I've heard of other actors more recently balancing two series at once.

Harry makes more sense as doing mostly legit things and they can call on him if they need him and he isn't working on a case. Also, I think having Harry working as a legit lawyer makes sense because he can help direct his clients or potential clients (that he can't help) to Leverage.

I got the impression she was stealing the owl as a replacement present.

(And told myself that she figured Astrid wouldn't know it was stolen since she was stealing it from a criminal who wouldn't report the loss.)

They left the owl there in the vault so the guy who stole it would see it and that would add credence to his theory that Arizona Mike was accumulating stolen items in the vault.  Arizona Mike's story was starting to make less and less sense, and when he claimed that the vault was empty, but they opened it and found a bunch of valuable stuff in there (including the owl), he was done.

Sophie's replacement gift to Astrid was letting her know where she could go and pick up a whole lot of international bad guys if she acted quickly.

I'm late to the show but glad it's back! Of course, I don't remember anything from last season because that was 57 years ago. I just don't get why shows take so long between seasons now.

The actors don't look like they've lost a step in terms of getting back into character.

I've actually been to the Paris catacombs! We went way way way way down a spiral staircase. So much more than the just the bones, but there were a lot of bones! I took pictures. On a camera. With film.

The actor playing Arizona Mike was knocking it out as a sleazy tycoon.

If you're not pumping the water out all the time, the aquifer can recharge from rainfall. It would take time to recover but they'll get the water back.

Your so lucky! That's so cool.
