S07.E02: Fame, Flying Fists and Cold Feet

God, it's been six and a half years already since Roseanne's passing on the show? Damn.

Somehow Jackie and Jane Lynch's character interacting as they do just...makes so much sense :p. I had a feeling Dan was going to give in eventually - I think he was right with his concerns, but will be interesting to see how this storyline pans out.

Also wild to see Seth Green on here. Given Darlene's frustrations with Ben, I'm wondering if this storyilne will go where it seems like it might go.

Would they still even be able to sue after all that time? I thought there was a statute of limitations?

I just googled...I didn't really look past the AI overview, but it says this:

"In Illinois, the statute of limitations for a wrongful death lawsuit, including those against drug companies, is two years from the date of death."

It also says, "There are some exceptions that might alter the two-year rule in certain cases, such as when the death was caused by medical malpractice or government misconduct," but they're suing the drug company for selling an addictive product, not the doctor for prescribing an inappropriate medication, so I don't think malpractice would apply.

"In some cases, the two-year period may start from the date you discovered or should have discovered that the product caused the death, but you cannot file a lawsuit more than eight years after the death." I don't think this would apply, either, because they knew from the start that her addiction to their product is what killed her.

I read the description before watching the episode and thought "Oh lord. Not again." How may times do we need to see Darlene and Ben's relationship in trouble?

Well, I guess only one more.

They were all on TV before, when they did the Rodbell's commercial.

Duh, Jackie doesn't have a case, only Dan; nice to see one moment of realism in this lawsuit storyline (although I guess they threw in a line last week about a higher court ruling that allowed for claims previously barred, so maybe that's their basis for the statute of limitations, but I'm not going to go back and check the details).  Roseanne's text worrying about Dan if she couldn't work anymore was realistic; I'm glad they're calling back to that time.

"Do you have anything domestic, I don't even know this guy" made me laugh.  As did "Why?" about starting a hardware magazine.  But I hope they're not going down the tired love triangle path here with Seth Green's character.  Ben is busy right now, but he won't always be, and Darlene is not immature and stupid enough to spin out over that.

And Becky and Tyler are pathetically schmoopy, while I don't remember them being like this last season.  It's pretty sad for the sisters to have been more realistic in their relationships at sixteen than they are now.

"Not to mention the disability money you'll be getting from your break with reality" and the descriptions of social media were not enough to save the thankfully short-lived influencer storyline, but it was a nice dynamic between Harris and Aunt Becky.  I could do without seeing Beverly Rose again since the kid cannot act to save her life, but when she's missing this far after the height of the pandemic, people ask questions, so I understand plopping her back into a scene.

Every time, apparently, because the writers aren't capable of writing them as a functional couple.

They're still definitely going to make up by the finale and some people will crow about what a happy endgame they are.

I just can’t get past how someone fairly young - and thus, saavy to the internet and how the majority of people get their information online - plus, having already lost a publishing job - would think creating a hardware magazine is a viable financial endeavor. Add in remodeling an entire office to begin the magazine!? It’s ludicrous.  At least Roseanne and Dan’s bike shop, house flipping, and loose-meat sandwich shop had a chance of making money.  I don’t understand this at all, but nothing they’ve done is realistic. (See Darlene and Becky’s house being completely updated by Dan and his gang of friends in their 70s within what felt like weeks)

Anyway, liked Becky’s try at influencer stardom.  ‘Staying out of the sun saved me!”

Jane Lynch and Jackie could’ve played sisters. They had such similar mannerisms.

Darlene and another cheating opportunity. Why isn’t she at the office helping Ben? It’s odd that she wouldn’t be involved at all.

So only six episodes to wrap up and they can’t even have all the cast members in the episodes? I get adding Jane Lynch as the lawyer for the final arc, but do we really need whatever Seth Green’s arc will be? I guess Sara Gilbert wants to keep a juicy storyline for herself?

Is this the last season? I thought it got cancelled and was surprised when it showed up on my DVR 2 weeks ago.

So Darlene is at the bar and orders "two more beers" for her and Chad.  They're sitting at the table, drinking two bottles of beer.  And the bartender brings them two frosty mugs of beer.  Why wouldn't he bring them two more bottles?

Oh, and some other stuff happened in the episode, I guess.

They are so stupid I can't stand it.  I hope {just for spite]   if they  get the money, and they probably will ; that they end up blowing it on crap like they usually do,;

After all are the Connors,

I knew I knew the lawyer, I just couldn't recognize Jane Lynch. Yeah, like I'd trust her with my legal problems.

Yes, unfortunately with Becky the Influencer billing herself as Hot Mom as well as her other attributes, they had to drag Beverly Rose in so it wouldn't seem so weird.  But I agree with the actress not being good and the show wasted their money paying her.

I thought Ben might be having the affair. I mean, why would he need to repeatedly sleep at the office? Is the office that far away from home? And if it is, since he came home to get clothes, why not just sleep at home? Are they remodeling around the clock? Are they already putting the magazine out while they're remodeling, and there is some super important breaking news story about hardware? Why do they even need an office? They would need a commercial printer and mailing house and the magazine itself would be written and compiled on computers by writers who would likely work from home. In conclusion: I guess Ben is stupid now, too! 🤷🏻‍♀️

And once again there's a man waiting in the wings who is hot for Darlene even though she's the most unpleasant person you could ever meet and not exactly a beauty queen.

I watch a lot of re-runs of Roseanne, so when I read the part in this episode description about the family finding fame when their restaurant is featured on TV,  I at first thought it was that old episode about the Rodbell's commercial, and I was confused about why my DVR recorded it, lol.

The Connors' response to being on TV seemed pretty odd to me.  For a poor family that struggles to find success, they didn't seem to be very excited about it.  They didn't even bother to tell Dan that it was on, and Jackie and Dan just walked away from it when the lawyer showed up.  Maybe they were recording it.

Is the actor playing Ben busy with other projects?  They seem to be going out of their way to write him off the camera.  Or maybe they're trying to switch Darlene over to Seth Green, but it seems pretty late in the series for something like that.

It would be interesting if they decided to do a "Bob Newhart" for the final episode.

I predicted a couple seasons ago that they were going to wrap the whole thing up by revealing the plots we've seen on this reboot since Roseanne Barr's exit took place in a wildly successful graphic novel that Darlene publishes, and that IRL the Conners have gotten their shit together and are doing just fine.  A callback to the original series ending AND an explanation for all of the dumb crap that has gone down.

I was thinking that since the reboot started with Rosanne waking up next to Dan, it would be quite a trip if the final scene is her waking up without Dan and sadly going "Oh..."

I know it will never happen since Rosanne is persona non grata, but I bet fans can come up with better endings than the writers.

Jackie addressed that during the show.

That's where I thought it was going. Though really, even if he isn't, throwing himself into starting a hardware magazine in 2025 is so dumb. She may as well dump him.

They are running out of annoying and mindless things for these annoying and mindless people to do. I honestly can't believe it took them so long to try to become influencers.
