I get the feeling Whoopie thinks her job (maybe it is) is to chastise the others.  It irritates when there is a good discussion going and she says they have to stop talking about it, obsessing about it because we just have to wait and see.  She rules the table with an iron hand. And PLEASE stop with the "you all in the audience look so familiar to me."  Please just stop. If the topic is beneath her, she looks at the audience, makes a bored face and rolls her eyes.  Rude.

I think it's her entitled attitude. She has probably been like this most of her life.  Her way or the highway.  Add the awe and adulation that come with her "stardom," and she has become impossible.   As for each "familiar audience," can she please keep the worn-out "comedy"  within the studio? She could mention it when the cameras aren't on; the only people enjoying it are Whoopi and each audience who sits through two shows.

Great points, Debbie311.  Also, if Whoopi isn't familiar with a topic or doesn't understand it, then she pretends it's beneath her. The eyes start to roll and her face wants to fall on the desk.  She's SO MUCH BETTER than the rest of us?  NO! SHE is a bore!  I hope someone has told her to STOP BARKING at Alyssa...at least until Alyssa's medical procedures are completed.

I get not liking Whoopi, fair enough, but I don't think quotes around stardom is fair.  She is a star - multi award winning star at that.  Diminishing her accomplishments doesn't take away that she's probably achieved more than any of the other women on that panel if you think of achievement as reaching the top of one's field.

Idk- but lets be thankful she doesn’t do ten minutes of “Valley Girl Vouce” 3 times a week anymore

OMG WG, that Valley schtick is 50 years old, so tired, overdone, and never really popular; a mild giggle at best, not worthy of being a running theme. Give it a rest WG.

And while you are at it, consider freshening up everything about your on-screen presence: your opinions, catchphrases, appearance, clothing, and interactions with your co-workers and the audience. Pause before speaking. Try some new ideas, such as a discrete private tutor to make up for the formal education you missed and to keep you up to speed with current events. Reconsider your insatiable need to have all guests and co-hosts KYA constantly. And most importantly, as Patti LaBelle said, get a new attitude.

Her flippant comment "doesn't everyone have back pain" showed how out of touch with reality she is, just like most people with millions in the bank. Nothing to do with her saying that back pain isn't an excuse for murder, LOL or no LOL. She can afford to pay for just about any procedure she needs out of her bank account, unlike most of us, so yeah, she's privileged.

Not sure in the slightest how her bank account has anything at all to do with it. Murder is wrong, period. A medical diagnosis doesn't excuse you. Injecting some out-of-place class hatred into this doesn't make your point any less nonsensical. l mean, this:

But you feel free to laugh at people in pain.

Makes no sense whatsoever. I guess you need to resort to dramatics when you have nothing else. And, yes, I'll say it--so what, WHO CARES! Murderers go to jail.

And, personally, I always laughed at the Valley Girl and Queen of England voices. 🤷‍♂️

I'm guessing that Joy's wealth and fame and contacts among her wealthy friends will get her whatever meds or medical procedure she might desire or need asap.

Which is in contrast to the rest of us with or without insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, etc., at the mercy of health care providers of varying abilities, our preexisting conditions, and all the rigamarole of paperwork, phone calls, and wait time required for getting approved to access necessary care.

Thus the economic class reference to her reference about "Everybody's got back pain. "

Not excusing her casual, very insensitive comment.

If Joy went to her doctor and complained about back pain I would bet her doctor's treatment would be different than if some regular person went to their doctor with the same complaint.  Back pain and pain in general a lot of times can't be easily diagnosed or even proven to be true. So a lot of people who say they are in pain are thought to be drug seeking.  The shooter's back pain was related to a specific disease that is rare in younger people.  I wouldn't doubt he wasn't believed at first.

Her comment was insensitive because when talking about the shooter being in pain it wasn't to excuse why he did what he did but rather to explain why he did what he did what he did.  And isn't that what we all want to know?  His motive? Or would Joy rather believe he just shot someone because it was Tuesday?

It is listening to the hosts gush (correct word) over Whoopi's Annie performance. I have not seen Annie, and it could very well be true that Whoopi is a stellar performance artist with a commanding presence who fully inhabits her role.

But as a talk show moderator, WG has been out and out inept in a high-profile job for more than a decade.

It could very well be true that as an actor and performer, Whoopi truly inhabits her roles, and is an exemplary performer. But being a moderator is not her thing.

I do note that WG seemed gracious and that all of the gushing compliments seemed to give her extra vitality. I would feel the same way.

You're right, Dimity.  She is definitely a star--one of our majors.  I apologize.

I'm impressed that in her late 60s, Whoopi can do a Broadway show multiple nights a week AND do this show during the day.

I also like how the ladies support each other on their outside creative projects, like Sunny's books and Joy's plays and writings.

WG and family probably depend on her regular paycheck from The View, but she would have more time for her live performances if she could just step away.  I agree with your comments, FaginZorro.  She could have a one-woman show for limited runs all over the U.S. and probably ensure a good standard of living for everyone involved...AND the adoration that she loves.

I just checked, Annie is running from 12/4-1/5. The View will be on break starting maybe after next week?  (Or is this the last week?). But yeah, I’m surprised she didn’t take a leave for this whole month while she’s on Broadway.

It’s not that I don’t like Whoopi… really . She’s honestly like a family member. I come on to these message boards to complain about her all of the time. But when I’m  on FB or youtube and all of those “news articles” that come across my feed that say the View is getting cancelled because Roseanne Barr’s new talk show (that she is being paid billions of dollars for) is taking their viewers, I defend her (and all of them) .

Wow, on today's podcast, Sunny was more introspective and self-aware than I have ever seen her.  She said that some things Pres. Clinton discussed were illuminating for her, saying:

"The one thing for me I think I missed from the election is I was a kid from the Bronx projects. . . I know what's it like to live paycheck to paycheck. . . and I feel that I missed a lot of opportunity to speak to people that are experiencing what I experienced and connecting with them and understanding it and I think I spoke down to that issue.  I think it was a missed opportunity for me personally.  And even in some of the things I said on the show about non-college educated women."

Joy, if you are going to make comparisons, make sure they are apples to apples.

According to Joy's statistics, Trump lost 200K "manufacturing jobs" but Biden created 700K "jobs". No indication of how many of those jobs were manufacturing - they could be delivery jobs or warehouse jobs. If you are calling out what types of jobs were lost, you should include those types of jobs when saying that jobs were gained.

Not sure what "privilege" is indicated by Joy saying back pain isn't an excuse for murdering someone, LOL. I think most people would agree with that statement.

Not privilege...but maybe luck...the beautiful LUCK of never having endured ongoing/unrelenting/ horrific pain--the type that changes the best humans into (perhaps) murderers, suicides, ANYTHING to make it stop!  We have a generation of "drug addicts" who started out with pain medications...then moved "up" to something stronger, that still didn't work.  I can't believe that so many are unaware of this epidemic.

For the love of all that’s holy, someone please explain to Whoopi how insurance works.

WAIT!  You mean we all put our "premiums" into a pool...then those who haven't had any claims DO NOT get all our money back???   WHAT?  Haleth???  You can't be serious.  Surely an EGOT knows more than we do!

Besides, her premiums probably just about cover the Mounjaro she’s been using. Nothing left to send back to her.

I enjoyed her elaboraate explanation of her rare "eye surgery" a year or so ago (I can't keep track of time). The need and the glorious after-effects sounded a lot like cataract(s) removal.   But NO! This was something extra-special and rare and, I assume, no premiums were withdrawn from her lock box.

Maybe RLE? Supposed to prevent future cataracts and correct any vision problems.

I had cataract surgeries in 2005-ish  ... months apart because Medicare wouldn't pay for the second one "yet."  I was led to believe that I'd have no "future cataracts."  This is all so confusing; especially when Dr. Goldberg explains things.

I believe multiple people HAVE explained how insurance works to Whoopi,  BUT she refuses to accept the reality because of greed or entitlement or just plain ego in her thinking that she knows better how things SHOULD work.

Plus, she had to be ignoring the reality of hard numbers on her medical/ hospital bills that surely would have eclipsed her (and her family's) insurance coverage premiums over the years.

It is frustrating that someone who is paid unreal millions, plus untold free perks of clothes, products, and trips, etc., would complain. Bet you she never totaled up what those "freebies" cost in real dollars, because she "deserves" them.

I think that cataract surgery does prevent future cataracts, but doesn't address any other vision problems, near-sightedness or astigmatism, for example. So, you might still need reading glasses or other glasses after the surgery. I've heard that the RLE lens replacement will use a lens designed to mitigate those problems as well as cataracts.

I think that is right because the lens is removed, so it can't get another cataract in the medical waste bin!  I got "toric" lenses after my cataract surgery - because of the particular shapes of my corneas the specialist told me I wouldn't be "glasses free" but mostly.  I tried readers and found them particularly annoying so the optometrist made me glasses that progress from the reading part to nothing as they go up.  I have worn glasses since I was 7 years old, so not even having them on my face was not fun. I much prefer to put them on first thing along with the hearing aids (I'm 81 now, had the cataract surgery when I was about 75 and got the first hearing aids 20 years ago)  and not think about what I can and cannot see and didn't want to fool with a set of readers everywhere and on and off, on and off.  Also, I paid extra for the special lenses because insurance doesn't cover them.  Worth it to me.  YMMV.

Many commenters have brought up Whoopi's repeated advice to not get upset yet what Trump might do, but wait until his term starts, and live your life normally in the meantime. On the face of it, ignoring all the Trump preparations seems like head-in-the-sand behavior.

After thinking about it, I wonder if, as is Whoopi's way sometimes, she was taking a little nugget of truth and expanding on it to make her sound wise. The nugget of truth is this: Trump gets off on "owning the libs." He has always used the fire hose method of sending out nominations, policy positions, etc., multiple times a day. It creates chaos and keeps everyone off balance. You can't process so much bad news every day, week after week.

Rather than ignore him on one hand and go crazy on the other, maybe the better choice is to stay informed as citizens, and read or listen to the better pundits and experts in the various fields of government, but not allow Trump to disrupt our lives to the point of helplessness. Maybe that is what Whoopi was trying to convey.

One more comment about cataract surgery. I had this done when I was 55. (The nurse kept telling me I was too young. Ha!  Easy peasy. If you ever need to do this it’s a piece of cake.). It did correct my nearsightedness for the most part. I don’t ~have~ to wear glasses for distance but have a pair that I wear for driving, concerts, sporting events, etc where a little tweaking helps. I do need to wear readers for close up work. I’m just happy to not have to deal with contacts anymore!

I know I'm late, but do you all think Sara truly believes America is civilized? WHEN?!

I'm glad Sonny said the country was built on violence.

My eyes are still stuck in the back of my head from when Sara said that. I don't think any of them have done a good job articulating how hopeless and powerless everyday Americans feel fighting this cruel and unjust healthcare system we have...and how things are never likely to change as long as our politicians are paid for by the industry. But Sara has been the absolute worst in these discussions. They desperately need a true progressive voice on this show.

IMO opinion Sara isn't very bright. And she doesn't know she isn't very bright. So she participates in conversations that require more than "look at someone's heart" and she shows she is in over her head. She isn't as dumb as Elisabeth Hasselback but Sara is much better at fluffier topics.
