Haleth December 9 Share December 9 Whoopi wasn’t listening to Ana’s point. Yes, most people don’t need to panic yet, but there are plenty of folks who do need to scramble to secure their safety now, not the least of whom are undocumented people. Also, for example, federal employees who are likely to be fired certainly cannot sit back and enjoy the holidays while their status is imperiled. 1/21 is too late for many people to start thinking about what they’ll do next. 14 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151002-the-view-week-of-1292024/#findComment-8528586

Shrek December 9 Share December 9 I'm going to go out on a limb here & say I didn't think that Whoopie did anything wrong in regard to Anna, Whoopie seemed to be speaking & then Anna decided that she was going to have her say halfway through what Whoopie was saying & a somewhat heated but good argument ensued with both taking opposite ends of the orange felon argument & how to approach it. Wait & see or throw your arms up in the air & panic seemed to be the argument with neither wining the day as usual & both being partly right & wrong. I get what Whoopie is trying to say about calm down & wait & see what happens without the mass hysteria at everything he says but as Anna says, he has shown us with his words and his picks for high places that he means what he says. This time he knows exactly what he can get away with because the SC has told him, anything he damn well wants to. As for Sara & her "I want to see more of Biden" she can just fuck right off, he's doing what he had planned to do & the news chose to ignore him, he can't & shouldn't change that and seeing more of him won't change the election or make Sara feel any better about it or him. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151002-the-view-week-of-1292024/#findComment-8528759

Yes, all these are worrisome/scary for those who are directly impacted, but a King is not ascending a throne on 01/20/25. The budgets are already in place for nearly everything until the Fiscal Year ends on 09-30-25. Only so much can be done with an executive order, and executive orders generally require funding, which has to be approved by Congress. MAGA has a 1-vote margin in the new House, so all it takes is a couple GOP-ers to slow things down, or even one to take ill and be away from chambers. There are plenty of Republicans on the ACA or using Medicare. Not a single Trump nominee will even have hearings until the new Senate begins work in a month. Whoopi rarely makes valid points, but her point that it is pointless to get all up in a tizzy, or to get sucked into the Orange chaos, is pretty good advice. After all, there is not much anyone can do other than live a responsible life. Sure join up with advocacy groups, do some internet research, maybe get a health checkup, but don't be spending yourself into debt buying holiday gifts or planning extravagant getaways. Ultimately, everyone has to be prepared for anything that can happen. Mollywolly555 December 10 Share December 10 I thought Ana's point was that people who are not American citizens yet and those citizens who are related to them need to start planning a course of action for themselves and their families, in case a forcible exit policy is enacted as promised by the new administration. Federal employees, those on Medicare, social security, as well. That is far from hysterical panicking as Whoopi frames it for those who don't listen to her all-knowing privileged wisdom. I imagine school teachers are also dealing with the anxious, sad fallout of this threat in the children they work with each day. 2JEWELL December 10 Share December 10 Last week someone posted a clip of Alyssa gushing over trump (when she worked for him) and it gave me a whole new insight of her.. Before she came to the View, Im not sure if I had ever even heard of her, so I kind of bought the narrative that she was like Cassidy Hutchinson… young, ambitious, caught up in the awe of working for the President only to find out he was crazy… But after I saw that clip (and even before that) I saw her differently… If I am to believe her, the build up to the insurrection was a bridge too far for her. But I’ve also seen clips of her suggesting there was cheating in the election. She only bailed because she didn’t think he was going to pull it off, 2 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151002-the-view-week-of-1292024/#findComment-8529413

Back Atcha December 10 Share December 10 Sara says, "You can have all the rage in your heart over a system," and Joy says, "Everybody has back pain." There has been speculation that the complete personality change in Luigi Mangione might have something to do with unendurable/chronic pain from back/neck surgery. X-rays were shown on news broadcasts. I was in ER (yet again) on Friday night because my opioid pain patch (20mcg) is helping very little. I CAN'T STAND THE PAIN which started when a physical therapy aide BROKE MY FEMUR after knee replacement surgery in 2016. THAT LONG!!! Wait and search out more facts until you two (who are usually bleeding-hearts) figuratively SLAP MY FACE again. Perhaps "everybody" does have back pain, but perhaps not from botched surgeries or malpractice in physical therapy. Doesn't ONE of you on the panel have experience with a friend or family member who's in major pain? Maybe you think, like Joy does, "Who cares?" Those whose family members have commmitted suicide (or homicide!) due to unrelenting pain DO CARE. Get some real compassion...not just lip service. I know the young man murdered someone; he'll pay for his crime, but perhaps he needs medical and mental help right now! Or at least have some compassion for viewers. 6 7 3 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151002-the-view-week-of-1292024/#findComment-8529527

Part of an online article: While the motive for the attack is still under investigation, new details are emerging about Mangione’s own health issues – and the impact they appear to have had on his life. The Ivy League college graduate suffered from debilitating, chronic back pain and underwent major surgery for it in 2023, a friend told The New York Times. RJ Martin – a friend of Mangione and spokesperson of Surfbreak, a co-living space in Honolulu, where Mangione lived for about six months until April 2022 – told the newspaper that Mangione had moved to Hawaii in a bid to get as healthy as possible in advance of the operation. “His spine was kind of misaligned,” Martin said. “He said his lower vertebrae were almost like a half-inch off, and I think it pinched a nerve. Sometimes he’d be doing well and other times not.” Edited December 10 by Back Atcha 2 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151002-the-view-week-of-1292024/#findComment-8529530

Shrek December 10 Share December 10 Having had 2 major back surgeries I can say with certainty that there are different levels of back pain, I really need a third surgery but that means a spinal fusion which I am not prepared to risk & the pain meds make it manageable. When my back went I was unable to walk more than 4 steps or lay down at all & spent 3 months sitting at the kitchen table which caused its own problems in my legs. I managed to see a doctor after the first few days & he told me he could get me an appointment with a neurosurgeon in 5 to 6 months & he just prescribed the highest dose of oxy possible & told me to take them as needed. I was one of the lucky ones whose wife is in healthcare and she managed to get me an appointment with a neurosurgeon a lot faster than 6 months but I still had to have 3 months of tests, x-rays, MRIs etc. before he could operate, all of which required me to be put out to get performed as the pain was too great to lie down for them conscious. Anyway it is now 6 years after my first surgery & 3 since the second but had I not had such a persistent & knowledgeable g/friend (now wife) at the start of it I don't know how I would have managed and I can understand the frustration & pain that people have to endure and a large % will end up addicted to pain medication and stronger or they will just give up completely and not care about any consequences. I saw first hand how easy it is to become addicted to opioids & had I not had someone to help wean me off them slowly I don't know where I would have ended up. All of that to say that Joy has zero idea what real back pain is and the trials & tribulations that people without her privilege have to endure on a daily basis just to survive & live any sort of life. 4 11 2 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151002-the-view-week-of-1292024/#findComment-8529549

My son died in May...after DECADES of pain (Crohn's disease/40yrs, cancers, infusions that caused--probably--bile duct cancer, resulting in a liver transplant). He and I "understood" and were so proud of each other--knowing how difficult life is and that (truly) no one can understand until it happens to them. He was an outstanding friend, athlete, employee who cannot be replaced. Another son lives with me and I feel that NOW I have no one who understands. He acts as if I do nothing but moan and complain. Can't stand up or sit down without making a noise (OHHHH...how irritating!) He expects to live a normal life with me (84) who "should" be taking care of everything (cooking, cleaning, errands, bills, etc.) for him--because it's always been my job, my house--a Mom who was "so strong." I'm just not anymore. Can't burden friends and relatives. As soon as I get my older son's house sold (it's imminent), all the business of death/dying/property should be taken care of. THEN there's finally time to go to grief therapy...MONTHS too late. Thanks for reading, Haleth. My thoughts are with you and your husband and all those with "just another backache" and chronic pain. TheGreenKnight December 11 Share December 11 I did think this morning how exhausting it was to listen to Sara while she was going on and on, and how she tried to imply Sunny was endorsing violence. Thay last part made me realize Sara's just as bad as Alyssa these days, I really don't care if she's just saying what she's been told to say (since I know that seat always plays the role of supporting whoever's sitting in Alyssa's chair). And considering Sara/Alyssa seem to talk double the others, the show's a chore these days. I guess fastforwarding through the two of them might make it a little bearable, but then you have days where Whoopi's being ornery like the whole thing with Ana, too, so... And they barely talk before they're off to commercial. I remember when the first segment used to be 13-15 minutes before the first commercial and now it's 8 minutes-ish.🙄 If you cut Alyssa/Sara out, then the first segment's probably 3 minutes long, lol. 5 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151002-the-view-week-of-1292024/#findComment-8529744

Idk- but lets be thankful she doesn’t do ten minutes of “Valley Girl Vouce” 3 times a week anymore 2 1 1 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151002-the-view-week-of-1292024/#findComment-8529752

He and I "understood" and were so proud of each other--knowing how difficult life is and that (truly) no one can understand until it happens to them. He was an outstanding friend, athlets, employee who cannot be replaced. Another son lives with me and I feel that NOW I have no one who understands. He acts as if I do nothing but moan and complain. Can't stand up or sit down without making a noise (OHHHH...how irritating!) He expects to live a normal life with me (84) who "should" be taking care of everything (cooking, cleaning, errands, bills, etc.) because it's always been my job, my house--a Mom who was "so strong." I'm just not anymore. Can't burden friends and relatives. As soon as I get my older son's house sold (it's imminent), all the business of death/dying/property should be taken care of. THEN there's finally to go to grief therapy...MONTHS too late. Thanks for reading, Haleth. My thoughts are with you and your husband and all those with "just another backache" and chronic pain. I usually love Joy, but I want to push her down a few stairs today. It’s not too late Back Atcha for grief group or counseling. It’s such a shame you were not able to see someone sooner. Sometimes if you go too soon you’re too big of a mess to participate or cry the whole time. There is no normal process to grief. I benefited from both caregivers and grief group and even a weekly or bi weekly session with the psychologist that was at the facility where my husband got his chemo. She saved me ,and either sometimes not charge or just accepted what insurance covered. After my son she was the first person I called. I hope you know how much I think of you and wished I lived down the street and I’d give your son a piece of what’s left of my mind. Find someone that you can relate to ,are comfortable with and can give you the support you need. It may even take a couple of tries. I always chose women..go figure. 4 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151002-the-view-week-of-1292024/#findComment-8529784

And yes I know there are both sides but they aren't always equal. Or even rational. And her always saying as an Independent. She said she had voted previously voted for candidates from both parties. I wonder what Republicans she has voted for. Because there is a difference between a moderate Republican and a far right wing nut. I think Sara tilts more right than left. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151002-the-view-week-of-1292024/#findComment-8530002

I stopped watching a few years back (before Trump IIRC) when Joy and some of the others were totally obnoxious in a segment about nurses. They had to backtrack but they showed me what they were. Anyway I got back into it a few years ago and then had to selectively watch - or mute when McCain was on. I had just gotten back into it again when Trump won and things started taking a harsh right turn. So yeah, not sure I'll be watching much going forward. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151002-the-view-week-of-1292024/#findComment-8530062

I think most people would agree with that statement. Her flippant comment "doesn't everyone have back pain" showed how out of touch with reality she is, just like most people with millions in the bank. Nothing to do with her saying that back pain isn't an excuse for murder, LOL or no LOL. She can afford to pay for just about any procedure she needs out of her bank account, unlike most of us, so yeah, she's privileged. But you feel free to laugh at people in pain. 2 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151002-the-view-week-of-1292024/#findComment-8530088
debbie311 December 11 Share December 11 I get the feeling Whoopie thinks her job (maybe it is) is to chastise the others. It irritates when there is a good discussion going and she says they have to stop talking about it, obsessing about it because we just have to wait and see. She rules the table with an iron hand. And PLEASE stop with the "you all in the audience look so familiar to me." Please just stop. If the topic is beneath her, she looks at the audience, makes a bored face and rolls her eyes. Rude. I wonder what her line will be after Jan. 20 when things will have gone to hell. Funny that she refuses to say his name but says we have to give him the benefit of the doubt "because we don't know what is going to happen." What's the saying? "The best prediction of future behavior is past behavior." 7 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151002-the-view-week-of-1292024/#findComment-8530098

And sometimes it's funny. But Joy can be dismissive about things and we are now hearing this guy changed a lot after back surgery. The entire panel and (probably) the audience might be surprised at what type of discussions follow if ONE of them mentions chronic pain...with some knowledge. 2 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151002-the-view-week-of-1292024/#findComment-8530179
