Ok- hear me out. Our family has been through a lot of loss. My sister in law lost her dad this year, my brother in law lost his mom (after losing his dad and brother the two previous years) and my husband and his two siblings lost their mom this year (my mother in law). I love(d) my in-laws. I just turned 40 and they have been a part of my life since I was 14.
My brother in law gifted all our families a ginormous canvas picture of one of the last photos of my mom and dad in law together before she passed. It’s not a bad picture but it’s HUGE. Like 3 foot by 2 foot. I don’t have pictures in my house that big of any of my kids or us. I suggested we hang it in the hallway, my husband suggested the kitchen and said “well we might as well hang it over our bed at this point”.

PHOOEY! It's a good thing I had decided to get a new tree for next year, because the prelit white/warmth lights at top tier of my current tree blew a fuse and now I don't have any white lights! I tried twisting and turning and confirmed they were all plugged in-unplugged and replugged, but to no avail.

Ah well, the new tree looks better. Yes, I already placed it in my order cart! I'll order it after the new year and test to make sure it works.

Well, if I'm going to go ALL OUT, I am dressing up for myself-because even if I go out to the free parties near me, I won't be able to drink the champagnee, because how will I get home? So it's my traditional Moët, and I got me a blinky New Year's tiara (SHUT UP! Don't JUDGE ME!) and a sequened silver dress!

I will be spending NYE on the couch trying to find something to watch that is better than what is usually on offer and winding up putting an a movie instead.

Anyone else making New Year's resolutions?  My big one this year is I solemnly vow to read everything I've downloaded onto my kindle before I order anything else!  I really mean it this time.  Really!

I am actually pretty good at reading the Kindle books I spent my money on. It's the free ones that I never get around to reading. I will need to clean that up in the coming year to get rid of those titles.

As for resolutions, I am going on a low-buy from Jan. 1st to September 12th barring the things I do actually need to buy before that trip. I am only buying necessities for the next 9 months.

I'm still pretty restricted while recovering from an accident, so I declined an invite to a small home NYE gathering; going to friends' home for Christmas dinner really knocked me out so I don't want a repeat of that.  Other friends just dropped off a huge plate of a turkey dinner.  Too many brussels sprouts, not enough gravy.  I kid - it was delicious.  Although I did scrape the sprouts straight in the compost. I have enough left for another dinner tomorrow.

I expect to be asleep any minute now.

I’m on the couch, because I didn’t get any sleep again. I have a sick headache, amd am dizzy, but I ate a bit of pizza, and just had a sip of champagne, after toasting the UK’s new year in with Big Ben, on YouTube.  I’ve been grating, waiting for dad to get home, so the headache isn’t as bad.
I miss going to the movies before midnight, which we started after mum died, and haven’t done since Covid.

I’m going to take some Tylenol, amd hopefully drop off soon.

My mom and I got pizza yesterday, so we've just been eating more of that today. I l plan to spend tonight watching the "Twilight Zone" marathon on TV while snacking and catching up on reading some fanfic for one of my fandoms :D (and maybe writing a bit, too). My mom, meanwhile, is spending the evening doing a little reorganizing and redecorating :D.

I made some cocktail meatballs which turned out great-ordered some chocolate mousse cake and mango supreme cake slices!

Sat back and watched me some classic comedy with the scrumptious Mark Harmon in Summer School  and will follow up with Rudolph’s Shiny New Year and whatever else catches my fancy until midnight!

If not for you, I’d be more alone.

Happy New Year, y’all! And though you can’t tell, the tiara IS Blinking!😁

New Year’s Eve is really just another day for me anymore. I got a heat and eat dinner from a local diner and have been watching movies since late this afternoon, with a break for local news and SVU and Shark Tank as background noise while eating and doing dishes. I’m currently watching The Greatest Showman. I don’t even put on coverage from Times Square until 11:30.

I did spend the whole day at home in yoga pants and lounging on the couch, and I think that in 2025, I want to have a “do nothing and stay home” day at least one weekend day a month. Wear something comfortable, stay on the couch to watch TV and movies, maybe read and/or write. Don’t go out unless I have to. On weekends I usually do go to my mom’s house but I could always be lazy up until that point in the day.

My other goals for 2025:

-Read more. I want to read at least one book per month and start working through my Amazon and Goodreads lists.

-Get back into exercising and eating right.

-Stay out of fandom spaces and arguments. I never feel good when I get too heated and have to remind myself it’s OK to be passionate about fiction and want to discuss it, but there needs to be a limit. It’s not worth the stress for something that isn’t real.

-Keep writing. I would love to try writing more original fic this year but I’m also hoping to rewrite the very first fanfic I posted back in 2021.

-Continue to improve my financial situation. Despite the good news about my credit score, my expenses are exceeding my income, so I know I need to put extra towards my debt and cut down on things like eating out and impulse buying at the grocery store.

I will buy Sir Stephen Fry’s Odyssey when it comes out in May plus whatever else is in my wishlist IF it goes on sale at a decent discount. Unfortunately too often I see a book and think I’d like to read it only to find it’s already on my Kindle (with its 2,621 compatriots)!

That reminds me to submit my Amazon cart tonight so beginning tomorrow, I'll only buy absolute essentials that are consumables like food, paper products, and cleaning items. We'll see how long I can keep that up.  I also need to remove a trash bag or box of items from the house weekly.

I am hoping for an online-order-free month of January (except for essentials) so I’ve been busy up to last night ordering supplies for my current projects! Most years I can manage but have a few shopping carts ready to go on February 1.

Last night was a normal quiet evening at home, today we invited some extended family to join us for a New Years Day dinner which was a nice change.

Happy New Year!

Watched Conclave, then switched back to the dvr of Anderson  Cooper/Andy Cohen with guest Ralph Fiennes. Synergy!

I watched Conclave last week. It surprised me, as I had seen the movie trailer in a theater, and it seemed very dull. I watched out of curiosity as it was free on Peacock. I think they kept all the interesting stuff away from being spoilers.

Every year my grandparents say they are coming for Christmas and every year they either opt out or come and leave in the middle of the night. My Grandma just turned 89, has COPD and CHF. They live four hours away. She was hospitalized December 26th, released the next day and then hospitalized again January 1. My grandpa refuses to let my mom visit her mom until she is back home and in full makeup, dress, etc. We know this is the “hamster wheel of death” if you will  so my mom finally put her foot down and said we were coming no matter what tomorrow. My mom is adopted, my grandparents divorced when she was 17 and disowned her adopted brother and left her with her dad and step mother. My grandma remarried immediately and moved across the country her senior year of high school (Alaska-NY). Her step dad controls all of the conversations that happens between her and her mom. It’s a mess. Not the way I was hoping the New Year would start.

My dad, my husband and my son had a "boys day out" a couple of days ago so the little guy could have his first real experience in a movie theatre.  He passed the "sit still" test when he sat through Home Alone (and its subsequent sequels.  Yes SEQUELS because there were a few more made post Macauley Culkin).  They went to Sonic 3, on the recommendation from another dad.  My husband said that he SAT THROUGH THE WHOLE THING!!  We may consider a movie theatre birthday party for his 7th.
