As someone who is lower class, if we are using income as a defining measure, I do find it insulting. He is a rich guy playing poor. And it will never cease to amaze me that the poor people in his base continue to support  him when he is and his minions are doing everything they can to destroy anything that helps lower income people.

Indeed. He's cosplaying.  IDK whether he's intending to cosplay poor or 'working class'.  It brings to mind this song.

And the overall situation brings to mind this one (which is 20 years old or so and sadly still relevant):

He has, on numerous occasions, talked about how he hates the optics of how his supporters look.  From the crazed Jan. 6th Insurrectionists, to the way crowds at his rallies look like they could be in one of those hateful "shoppers of Walmart" videos.  And yet his Maga supporters don't care that he despises them.  They seem to glory in it.

I don't think they realize he despises them. They do think all the "liberal elites" do though. You know, the people who want universal health care, raising the minimum wage to $15 an hr, paid family leave. Those are the people Trump's base thinks means them harm.

Hard to tell. Maybe not despise. I think they want to be like him and feel it will rub off on them. I guess it is the crock Reagan sold. Trickle down. Side with a winner, be a winner.

Oh FFS. 🤦‍♀️

You can add InstaPot, Lenox, Anchor Hocking and some other home goods products to your boycott list.

As usual, all this stuff, along with what @tres bien just posted above, are violations of the Constitution's emoluments clause and should be grounds for impeachment.

Want a MAGA rice cooker or a snow globe with a small version of President Donald Trump raising his fist?

Major home-goods companies are there for you, with at least three firms developing special collections that feature Trump, according to plans and proposed releases reviewed by Semafor.

One of the companies, Instant Pot Brands, noted that “a portion of the profits from” its forthcoming collection “will be donated to the Trump Presidential Library.” Instant Pot, which makes kitchen and home appliances, said in its release that it will offer a “45/47 Collaboration,” including various items branded with those numbers and Trump’s “Make America Great Again” tagline.

“Now we’re doing Trump mobile. It’s going to revolutionize cellphones”

Says Eric Trump to Maria Bartiromo FOX this morning

I am honestly surprised that this has not happened already. Celebrities have been in the cellular service provider game ever since the various providers sharing towers thing happened. This is nothing new and I do not think there is any new ground to cover for the Trump family to revolutionize. It's going to be something similar to Mint Mobile that Ryan Reynolds "owns."

Reynolds sold Mint Mobile to T-Mobile. I'm sure Trump will be looking for the same sort of deal down the line. 🙄

I couldn't remember if someone had bought Mint that's why I used the quotation marks. That and, Ryan owned the company due to the level of money he invested while others did all of the heavy lifting. The same way Eric and his siblings will be with Trump Mobile, though I suspect Ryan invested a lot more money into Mint than any of the Trumps will with their new company.

I also think the Trumps may be looking for a payday down the line from selling the company, but they better not put all of their eggs into the T-Mobile basket. They have been buying up providers left and right, and at some point anti-trust laws will prevent them from buying up even more.

@ProudMary & @jessiebell: He may be announcing on social media that he wants raids on every city in America, though apparently ICE is estimated to already be over $1b over budget from their operations. But I thought we were all about saving money?

Quote

President Trump's immigration crackdown is burning through cash so quickly that the agency charged with arresting, detaining and removing unauthorized immigrants could run out of money next month.

Why it matters: Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is already $1 billion over budget by one estimate, with more than three months left in the fiscal year. That's alarmed lawmakers in both parties — and raised the possibility of Trump clawing funds from agencies to feed ICE.

Lawmakers say ICE's parent agency, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), is at risk of violating U.S. law if it continues to spend at its current pace.

That's added urgency to calls for Congress to pass Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill," which could direct an extra $75 billion or so to ICE over the next five years.

It's also led some lawmakers to accuse DHS and ICE of wasting money. "Trump's DHS is spending like drunken sailors," said Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), the top Democrat on the DHS appropriations subcommittee.

Zoom in: ICE's funding crisis is being fueled by Trump's team demanding that agents arrest 3,000 immigrants a day — an unprecedented pace ICE is still trying to reach.

Its detention facilities — about 41,000 beds — are far past capacity as DHS continues to seek more detention space in the U.S. and abroad.

The intrigue: If Trump's big bill isn't passed soon, he could use his authority to declare a national emergency to redirect money to ICE from elsewhere in the government — similar to what he did in 2020 to divert nearly $4 billion in Pentagon funds to his border wall project.

The White House has been trying to stretch its authority over the federal budget in various ways.

Besides vastly overspending DHS's budget, Trump's Office of Management and Budget has stopped publicly disclosing the money it's dispersing across the government. The administration also has had other agencies hold up money Congress appropriated for various programs.

Driving the news: DHS recently shifted around almost $500 million within its accounts to help support its immigration operations. But the agency asked appropriators for at least $2 billion more to meet the agency's needs by the end of September, as Axios reported in March.

https://www.axios.com/2025/06/16/ice-cash-crisis-immigration-crackdown-trump

It's almost as if keeping people in jails is...expensive or something? I would like to think that even GOP lawmakers are disturbed by this but as I forementioned, money never seems to be an object when they're in charge. Particularly when they are feeding off the profits to be generated from the prison industrial complex.

What his base thinks is good business most of us think is grift.  Does anyone believe Trump will have anything to do with any of these products? He is simply licensing his name as he has done for years. Is this stuff going to be carried in Walmart?  Are they going to have a Trump department? For a man who pledged not to take a salary while president he sure is making a lot of money off the office.

He's embarrassing.  Does he even know why Russa is no longer there?  And he can keep Trudeau's name out of his disgusting mouth.

ETA: On the plus side keep talking Trump it only serves to make the overwhelming majority of Canadians hate you even more.

He of course doesn't say why Russia has been excluded from the G8 now G7. Because they annexed Crimea.  That is what Russia does.  They do something bad and then acts like they are the victim.  Sound familiar?

Other than limiting my purchase of US products, I don’t do other politically related purchasing boycotts.  As I’ve said before, I likely directly own shares or have them in some sort of ETF.  Boycotting would make me seem like a hypocrite.  People have to remember that before shaming others.  Or implying said shame.

Where the US is truly feeling an impact in terms of boycotts is in tourism.  I think the only time I would ever call a fellow Canadian a hypocrite is if they were preaching self denial and sacrifice and encouraging others to boycott US products and to cancel vacation plans  etc and then they turned around and headed for Disney.  That's what qualifies as a hypocrite.

Canada does not allow convicted felons into the country except by special permission. So it would do Trump well to shut up about Russia (yes it was Harper, not Trudeau that was part of kicking them out because of Crimea) and also sign the statement regarding Israel/Iran.

If he doesn't want to do this, maybe he should just excuse himself and let the adults handle the important matters. I understand there is a lovely golf course near by. Perhaps an elk or two will take care of him.

This is true? Wtf?

Yep.

In interviews, veterans said the impact of the new policy would probably fall hardest on female veterans, LGBTQ+ veterans and those who live in rural areas where there are fewer doctors overall. “I’m lucky. I have my choice of three clinics,” said Tia Christopher, a navy veteran who reported being raped in service in 2000.

Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Christopher advocates on behalf of military sexual trauma survivors throughout the country. Under the new policy, some may have to register at a hospital in another region and travel more than a hundred miles to see a doctor. It “could have a huge ripple effect”, she said.

As concerned as they were about the new policies themselves, medical experts were equally worried about the way they came about. Sources at multiple VA hospitals, speaking on condition of anonymity because of fear of retaliation, told the Guardian that the rule changes were imposed without consultation with the system’s doctors – a characterization the VA’s Kasperowicz did not dispute.

Such a move would run counter to standards established by the Joint Commission, a non-profit organization that accredits hospitals. Kasperowicz said the agency worked with the Joint Commission “to ensure these changes would have no impact on VA’s accreditation”.

I follow We Rate Dogs on Facebook. They just posted this:

Quote

This is Gilbert. He was the family dog of the late Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark. We've learned today that Gilbert was also killed during the targeted political assassination that took the lives of his humans. In addition to her work championing progressive legislation and expanding protections for abortion and gender-affirming care, Rep. Hortman was a volunteer with Helping Paws, Inc. The nonprofit trains and places assistance dogs with community members with physical disabilities, as well as veterans and first-responders with PTSD. The Hortman family raised Minnie, who is currently a working service dog for a veteran, and they were working on training Gilbert as well, but he decided to change careers and became their family pet instead. We extend our deepest condolences to the Hortmans' family and friends after this unspeakable loss. 14/10 for all

You can donate to Helping Paws in Gilbert's memory through the link below  ❤

This makes me sadder about the situation . . . and madder, because I’m now imagining Kristi getting herself in a sweaty lather reading about this.

Guess what? Trump broke another law. It would be easier to report when he actually follows one. I am so damn sick of every single elected Republican who continues to enable this criminal regime without any pushback.

This feels so personal to me. I love visiting museums, all types. It's why my favorite vacation destinations are always cities. I can do the beach for about two days. After that I'm bored. But if you're in a city, there are museums! Art museums, sculpture gardens, science museums, natural history museums, national history museums, state museums, living history museums, children's museums, technology museums, sports museums and more. I've visited SO many. I am a museum geek and proud of it!

And libraries? They're shrines, and should be treated accordingly.  Sometimes they're museums, too, especially in smaller towns, where they may exhibit items of local or literary interest.

So this all makes me very angry. 😠

Watchdog Finds Trump Administration Broke Law by Withholding Library Funds

It is the second time the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office has found the administration illegally impounded funds.

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/16/us/politics/trump-watchdog-library-funds.html

The Trump administration broke the law when it withheld funding for the nation’s libraries, a nonpartisan government watchdog said on Monday, a finding that inches the White House another step closer to a legal showdown over its powers to reconfigure the country’s spending.

The decision by the Government Accountability Office was the second time in two months that oversight officials have found fault in the ways that President Trump and his top aides have tried to circumvent lawmakers in their quest to reshape the federal budget so that it conforms with their political views.

The inquiry concerned the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which serves as the federal government’s primary source of funding for libraries, museums and archives. In March, Mr. Trump sought to sharply curtail the agency as part of an executive order focused on the “reduction of the federal bureaucracy,” prompting legal challenges from states, librarians and other opponents.
