We're talking about a man who has had porn stars and strippers regularly on his show, made all the misogynistic comments possible and has just been gross for basically all of his adult life. Of course he thinks all men make horrible comments about women in private. He's a creep who probably only hangs out with other creeps. Why is Joy quoting him as if he's some great defender of women? I wonder if he and Joy are friends. He claims to be more evolved now and hangs out with mainstream celebrities. He wants to be perceived differently, but I'm not defending what he did in the past. He wants to be taken more seriously and must think we have amnesia. Plus I think age and his wife have mellowed him out. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150414-the-view-week-of-1142024/page/2/#findComment-8501490

The following quote is from a Newsweek article from 04/24. This pertains to migrants who were bused to NYC. "A family of four migrants in New York City receives more monthly funding than a family of four that includes a military veteran who receives disability compensation. New York City has taken in more than 175,000 migrants and spent upward of $1.45 billion just in fiscal year 2023 to shelter, feed and provide services to migrants. The city has said there is "no end in sight" to the copious numbers of migrants and projects that an extended timeline of the current rate of migration means a cost to the city of approximately $12 billion by the 2025 fiscal year." "Migrants coming to New York City are being given prepaid debit cards that in certain cases, like food assistance, dwarf the amounts provided to families of legal status. For example, the average family of four's monthly Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payment is $713, but migrant families of four receive $1,400 a month." This quote is from LawHelpNY "Immigrants who have just arrived in New York may be eligible for public benefits that provide money and medical care, including: Cash Assistance provides you with some money twice a month so you can buy things you need, like toiletries and clothes. Medicaid pays for your medical care, like going to the doctor or getting medications. WIC helps women, infants and children buy things they need, like formula or cereal." HOUSING usually means a hotel room which the city pays for but there are those that are being housed in paid apartments. 3 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150414-the-view-week-of-1142024/page/2/#findComment-8501504

The "problem" with the popular vote is that it isn't always going to go the way you want. Great, when everyone thinks the same as you do, not so great when most of them don't. I read the Newsweek article - thanks - and when it said a family of 4 was getting $1400 a month to spend at grocery stores, that means each person in that family is eating on about $12 a day. In NYC. And I'm not sure if they can cook much at the Roosevelt Hotel, but maybe $12 can go farther if they could. These recipients are all asylum seekers. Some may be denied asylum, but others will be accepted if their cases are approved - in other words, their lives are deemed to be in danger back in their home country. I am glad we don't let them starve and they get medical care. It's the humane thing to do. I fully admit I am not greatly educated on this issue. Between federal and state laws, and city ordinances, there are multiple systems dealing with unauthorized immigrants. The news story mentions that this is a pilot program, and will benefit 500 people, so we (or I) don't know if this program will continue. But I do appreciate your taking the time to alert me to this, and I will pay more attention to it now. Thanks, Sue 15 hours ago, Snapdragon said: Early days? Republican supermajorities in some states no longer exist.. So it was not a blow out as the pundits have said. I also get annoyed when the working class conversation is brought up because it only means White people who are struggling. Black people have been excluded from everything in this country since 1619 when they were brought here against their will. Don't our struggles count too? Apparently not and despite that we always try to do right by this country and not just us. Those days are now over for a lot of us. The capes are burning.. It also annoys me that whenever Democrats lose they are told to look within and reach out to Republicans, stop being too far left elitists but the same is never said to Republicans. I am glad that Sunny brought that up but nobody wanted to hear that. I loved it that Joy brought up the fact that all of the gains that have helped people in this country like social security, Medicaid and Medicare was because of the Democrats who are called far-left and Republicans have been working tirelessly to get rid of them calling them entitlements.. Her side won. Her true Repub colors are coming out more blatantly now, as she is speaking up more, arguing more, and ridiculously, giving Dems advice. Oh, but wait, didn't she vote for Kamala? CYA, at the time, I believe. I think he won because for a long time among white lower/middle classes there has been a growing mistrust of government officials, and generalized feelings of being disregarded, derided for their lack of formal education, and forgotten in the media's conversations about issues of concern. Trump was their friend in low places, their voice, finally. Nevermind his abhorrent views, promises, and actions. Ironically, they say they support the police, but they don't want government or the law in their business, so his being a felon was a badge of honor among thieves. Then Repubs fed them the lie that the immigrant/ Bipoc were the villains taking away what they were entitled to before, as well as hammering home the false message of the economy being so much worse than before, despite stats saying different, and the real issue of corporate greed. Sunny is fighting the good fight, although understanding his base per above may help her strategize more effective arguments and ways for building a stronger Dem resistance/message during the next 4 years and for the future. Good observations on all points. To take it one step further, there is a great divide among voters in regard to where they choose to get their news. We tend to self-sort, and listen to news sources that confirm our views rather than challenge them. The conservative media have been denigrating government for a couple of decades, feeding their sense of being ignored by "the elite" and creating an audience for Trump's message. Joy and Sunny seem most at a loss to understand the voters who wanted Trump. If they watched conservative media for a week, and saw only what Trump voters see, they might have a better understanding how these voters can come to believe what they are being fed. 6 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150414-the-view-week-of-1142024/page/2/#findComment-8502903

And stop blaming Harris as if she’s personally responsible for the loss. It's funny to me Alyssa now thinks Harris did things wrong. Before the election she was on the podcast with Brian and she didn't sound like someone who thought Harris was making missteps. She thought Harris was going win. 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150414-the-view-week-of-1142024/page/2/#findComment-8503212

So I’ve tuned out of ALL MEDIA, I’m so sick of it. Thought I could vent in the thread the community manager created, but even that’s become heated. To be fair, a few days post-election, one where there seemed to be a reasonable likelihood that Harris could win, asking where she went wrong seems like a question that many people were asking. While Harris might not run again, those who run campaigns should understand why they didn't do better. Moving forward without any idea of how to improve would not help other candidates. Also, the candidate is the person who is seeking election, and they should be very involved in how the campaign is run, so as the prime focus, it is understandable to suggest that Harris bears a lot of responsibility for the loss; otherwise, she'd just be a puppet, doing whatever her handlers said to do, and I don't think that is true or should be true for any candidate. 6 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150414-the-view-week-of-1142024/page/2/#findComment-8503555

She's going to have to get herself together soon though and move on (to the find out portion of FAFO) 🙂. Anna seems to be a little further along in her processing. Alyssa has good points, but she's similar to Sunny in being too absolute in her opinions. It's not an either/or scenario. All of what they are saying can be true on why the outcome was it was. That is where I am at. I have zero sympathy for those that are finding out what their vote will get them. It won't be pretty. But I can't care more about their lives than they do. Everyone is processing their feelings and I can't fault Sunny for how she feels. America is going to go through some things in the next 4 years. 11 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150414-the-view-week-of-1142024/page/2/#findComment-8507469
