Jeopardy! Season 41 (2024-2025)

I got FJ completely based on the horse racing. Totally forgot about baseball bats.

The only missed clue I got was Daisy Jones and the Six (haven't read it, but keep hearing it's good).

I got the entire category of over and under right.

Almost instaget FJ.  Triple crown led me to horse racing, and I chose the most obvious city connected with the horse racing triple crown.

I also got the TS of South Sudan, Daisy Jones & the Six, décolletage, and de rigueur.  Although, if I'd had to spell de rigueur, I would not have gotten it right.

I missed two in money, got all but Sia in Billboard, and ran the rest in the first round.

I only ran veterinary and French in DJ, but I did well; I got all but harmonium in instruments and all but Gibbon in ruined.  I missed two each in sitcoms and literary.

FJ was an instaguess I figured had to be correct.

60% / 50% / 56%

Jeez, bad night. In J I ran In the Zeitgeist, missed one in Road Trip, two in Tarot and Stock Symbols, three in Movie Moments, and four in Gladiators. In DJ I missed one in Animal Planet and Leftovers, and three in everything else.

But I got FJ! Was not at all sure; just threw it out to say something. And it was an asterisk!

TSes: (J had 3; DJ had 10 + both DDs (+ two clues left on the board)) I got Chevron, overlook (DD), You Shook Me All Night Long. Was annoyed I didn't get CrowdStrike because it was mentioned in a podcast I listened to either this morning or yesterday.

I got the missed clues of HP Lovecraft, pronghorn and You Shook Me all Night long.

I got the entire partial category of 3 letters the same wrong.

Not quite -insta- for me but as soon as I could actually read the clue I got it.

I'll be interested to see if the board is cleared next game, Mikey seemed to look back and forth a lot before choosing a clue, something I don't understand, just pick something!

The FJ clue gave me enough to be pretty sure it was either Icarus or Daedalus, but I couldn’t remember which was the father and which was the son. Fortunately I guessed correctly that they were going for what I’d say is the better known of the two, giving me a rare correct response in a category where I would assume I would draw a big blank.

Sort of an instaget FJ for me tonight -- I knew immediately exactly who they were looking for, but it took a couple of seconds to remember his name.  Yay, asterisk!

I also got the TS of Crowdstrike, overlook, cellular, pronghorn, and You Shook Me All Night Long.

I feel like they're less likely to be cleared when they have celebrities reading an entire category.  And the one the other day with the songs took forever to get through each clue.

Today I said Daedalus' son...I blanked on the name "Icarus". I give myself half points. Mythology is not a strong area for me, and most of what I know came from watching Kaos (and peripheral googling that came from Kaos to fact check/gain more info).

I didn't get what the clue was going for until Ken said "Who would be shrieking in mid-air?" and couldn't get to the names fast enough.
If I was watching a recording, I would have paused it to give myself an extra 30 seconds, but I still might've only gotten to Daedalus' son.
Given that the clue did not say "the name of":

• Ovid says he "toppled, beating wild with naked arms the unsustaining air... shrieking for succour from his sire"

would "Daedalus' son" have been accepted? 
I imagine it might be in the regular portion of the game, but FJ seems to be a bit stricter sometimes.

 

Yesterday I could only say: That place in the south where they race horses.

Mikey not figuring out "You Shook Me All Night Long" after the two wrong guesses surprised me.  His beatitudes response to the researchers clue made me laugh; he got as far as blessings, rang in, realized he didn't actually know, yet still decided to say it?

I expected to be terrible in tarot, but only missed two.  Same exact thing in gladiators.  Movies turned out to be my bad category; I missed three in movies.  I ran the other half of the first round, at least.

I ran the vocabulary category the contestants were so awful in and capitals, and got all but Benz in leftovers, but it was not a good DJ as I missed three each in everything else.

When I saw the FJ category, I knew this just wasn't my night.  I didn't have a guess upon reading it, and pretty much just tuned out until it was time for the responses to be revealed rather than reading it again and trying to think of something.  I do that a lot with religion/mythology FJ clues; if it doesn't happen to be among the few things I know or something that quickly brings to mind a guess I can consider, I'm not interested enough to try.

I wouldn't think so.  The only time identifying a character by their relationship to another character rather than by the character's name should be correct is if that's how the character is solely or primarily known in the story.

Well, you’re not entirely crazy, because Molly Hatchet was (supposedly) a real person. Given their shared preference for a certain pointy implement, it’s not surprising you mixed them up. The name even flitted through my mind for a second.

(I say “supposedly” a real person because the Internet has very little info. I tried looking her up because while I was aware of her as a historical figure, I couldn’t remember what she did. But I only found brief descriptions of her as either a prostitute or vengeful woman from the South who beheaded her customers/ lovers with an ax. All info came from message boards, mostly relating second-hand info from the band about their name origin, and I could find nothing from actual historical sites. So I am skeptical about the veracity. I think the band may have made her up.)

I watched 3 shows in a row today: Started off strong with FJ gets on Monday and Tuesday, then fizzled like Icarus today with a shrug-guess of Mercury. I was picturing a just-hatched winged god who, much like a fledgling bird, hadn’t quite learned to fly and was panicking a bit, and… yeah. I think my brain was just tired after 3 games. Icarus never even entered my mind.

No, that wouldn't be accepted, any more than Franklin  Roosevelt's wife would be if they were looking for Eleanor.

I got FJ! after Ken said flew too close to the sun.  I mentally added “on wings of pastrami.”  Seinfeld reference.

It was an instaget for me - except that I couldn't remember his flipping name. I knew the story, I love Breugel's "Fall of Icarus" painting but his name was a complete blank. I was surprised that it was a triple stumper. The painting amuses me because all you can see of Icarus are his legs above the sea on (toward the bottom right).
